There is nothing special about the lunch special, all they did was remove the $1.90 egg roll from the combo and deduct $1.40 from the combo price. I specifically asked if the lunch special came with an egg roll, they said yes and i was charged for the normal combo price when i got there. This is our favorite local "American" Chinese restaurant. It's efficient, reasonably priced, good portion sizes. It's 100% a take out joint. In fact it's got kind of a storeroom feel. There are maybe two tables in there if you want to sit down and eat, but it's not the kind of place where you'll have table service. They have an extremely convenient online ordering system through their website. They have very good lunch specials and as I said they're reasonably priced with decent portions. We've never really been disappointed with anything we've had. Do not expect Asian fusion, sushi, Szechuan, soup dumplings, hotpot, edamame etc. It's American Chinese classics and that's it. OMG People like this place??? I'm appalled at how bad it is. Not only were they rude and rushing me when I called to order but also forgot to give me the egg roll I paid for- unfortunately I didn't realize until after I picked it up and got home. The boneless spare ribs were straight up garbage! Absolute terrible flavor. My husband threw them out. The chicken and broccoli was sitting in a half inch of clear oil and started to slowly coagulate into a gelatinous disgusting jelly as it sat uncovered. The taste was OK, though I've had better around where I live. Yet, the difference between what is around me and this place is delivery, which, like I said, goes along way! I also have to mention cost; the price is right! I can't complain at all about their lo mein, though the food was awfully bright, which makes me wonder if they use food coloring (that would be a big minus in my world). He knows what he likes and how dishes should be seasoned. He gives it 2 thumbs up. Hot and Sour soup was a rich and spicy vegetable meaty soup. Right on the money with the sour. Didn't need to add anything. Same with the Szechuan beef. Portions are large and very flavorful. I am very picky with my Chinese food but I have to say this place is pretty good! I was very happy with my chicken and broccoli dish, it was above average. The portion was large as well and I was able to finish my leftovers the next day for a decent sized lunch as well. The service was exceptional, the guy behind the counter immediately greeted Marvin and I and effortlessly struck up a conversation with us. He was also very friendly with everyone else who came in after us, most of the people already knew him. I ordered orange chicken to go. It was very tasty, fast, and surprisingly cheap for the quality. The orange chicken had slices of orange rind, so actually tasted like orange. The chicken pieces were nice and meaty. They weren't just hard, misshapen, deep-fried batter blobs. They also don't cheap you out on meat like most other places do. There are several Chinese Take Out places in Selden, Coram, and Centereach. I've yet to have one that is as good as the places I recall growing up in Flushing, Queens. Judging by all the favorable reviews, Panda Garden sounded like a winner. I did a small order to try for the first time, Shrimp Lo Mein, Shrimp Fried Rice, Fried Cheese Wontons, and some shrimp Egg Rolls. The Fried Rice looked like saffron or plain yellow rice, with only a small amount of vegetables (some peas and carrots), no egg, and no seasoning. The wontons had a good-tasting cheese but the wrapper was greasy. Shrimp rolls had lots of cabbage a small amount of shrimp and was very greasy. The Lo Mein was the best of the lot but also tended to have a bland flavor. So for $30 it was a disappointment and my wife and I ate some of the food but were hungry after finishing since we didn't eat much and a lot was left over. I'm going to save the leftovers and try to improve the taste when re-heated. Walking into the place there was a very distinct burnt oil smell. The order was filled accurately and the service was okay. Nothing special. There are better places in Selden and Coram. read more

I would say that Panda Garden deserves about a 3.5/5. As others have said before, the food is ok, but nothing special. What pushed Panda Garden from a 3 to a 4 was that they obviously use real meat, not overly processed, formed animal-byproduct slurry. The restaurant has limited seating. Everything seems fairly clean, but there are many boxes sitting in the open; everything would look nicer if the area were organized a bit better. Prices are competitive, maybe slightly cheaper than average. My one gripe with the order is that I specifically asked for extra spicy and the heat was lacking. I order online, you can even put in a special request (like a substitution) and they will accommodate. Delivery is quick, usually 35-40 mins. If you want to pick it up it's usually only a 10 minute wait. The glory of this place is that it's so consistent and some of the freshest takeout Chinese I've had. You can see them cooking if you go inside. The fried rice is yellow rice with vegetable and pork pieces but that's only because that's easier to make, I would think. It's still tasty, regardless. The combinations are cheap, around $7, and come with a lot of food! I eat half of it and I'm full. You also get an egg roll with your combination. Pretty ideal for lunchtime but this is all day long!
