Considering how scary takeout Chinese could be, this place is really great. I've never had an issue. I order online, you can even put in a special request (like a substitution) and they will accommodate. Delivery is quick, usually 35-40 mins. If you want to pick it up it's usually only a 10 minute wait. The glory of this place is that it's so consistent and some of the freshest takeout Chinese I've had. You can see them cooking if you go inside. The fried rice is yellow rice with vegetable and pork pieces but that's only because that's easier to make, I would think. It's still tasty, regardless. The combinations are cheap, around $7, and come with a lot of food! I eat half of it and I'm full. You also get an egg roll with your combination. Pretty ideal for lunchtime but this is all day long! I normally get it for dinner. Panda Garden has changed my opinion of takeout Chinese and I won't eat it anywhere else but here. read more

This place is absolutely fabulous!! I love their food. Everything is cooked fresh, and let me tell you, I had the egg drop soup made fresh on the wok once, and it was the best thing I have ever tasted! I got there a little before they were closing, so they had to make it in the wok. I live right down the road and it is the best ever! Everything is fabulous, especially the black pepper chicken. They are also great at customizing. I like to think they added their plain lo mein and plain fried rice on the menu for me...hehe. I really want to be fair to these people. We get our hair cut at Bamboo haircutters, which is right next door to them. We had parked in front of their store, and looking through the window, I happened to recognize the woman behind the counter from one of the Chinese buffets that used to be down Middle Country Road. She was always pleasant to deal with, so the next time we ordered take-out, I called them. The food was fine....we asked for 2 orders of fried chicken wings, only to find one in the bag when I got all the way back to Coram. Now, she only charged us for one order, and she said she hadn't heard me when I said 2 orders, so I think it was an honest mistake....but I went all the way back for get the 2nd order, which, I might add, she did not charge me for. I was pleasantly surprised here! I got chicken and broccoli and the sauce didn't have the water separate like in all the cheap places. The sauce remained stable throughout. So high quality there. Hands-down the best Chinese food in the area! They never disappoint! The rice flavorful and juicy not like most places that over cook the rice and is hard as shit! My favorite is the sesame chicken which is always crispy but not burnt and their boneless spareribs or not just chunks of fat like most other places! To start, I found them to be quite expensive. Their egg rolls were greasy and had a bad oil taste to them. The sesame chicken had a pronounced taste of flour that was not welcome. The boneless spareribs were kind of bland tasting. I found the fortune cookies to be stale and they left a bad taste in my mouth. I have to say though, the fried rice was perfect. I have ordered chicken and broccoli from here twice, and let me tell you - it was more like chicken and ROCK-olli! The chicken feels very real and it's so good it melts in your mouth. The delivery is so quick, even when they estimate delivery time to be about 45 min, food arrives in 20-30 min. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk to over the phone. I've lived in the stony brook area for 9 years. This place is one of the better Chinese take out places. I say this because they maintain the same ingredients original to the dishes. Two of My all time favorites from this place are the Singapore Mei Fan ( spicy curry noodles with shrimp, roast pork, pork and chicken), and the Beef Chow Fun (dried). This place does not try to throw in a bunch of fillers - bok Choy or Chinese cabbage stems into the stir fry. The flavors are pretty good for a take out joint. read more

This is my go-to Chinese food place. Inside is damn near spotless. They are always friendly. I always order my food and pick it up and they now have online ordering which is convenient because you can do substitutions. I can honestly say that they have never once messed up in order in the hundreds of times I have eaten here. Our favorite is the sesame chicken which is always white meat chicken. We got hooked on the sesame shrimp for a while until I realized the shrimp were not deveined and that grossed me out so we went back to the chicken. You can order brown rice instead of white for like 40 cents which is nice because white rice doesn't do it for me. Our favorites include all the classics, egg foo young, lo mein, fried rice, all the 'fast-food' style Chinese. The only thing I don't really recommend is their egg drop soup, it is always really thick and very bright almost neon yellow. Their wonton soup is fine but they put too much cornstarch in the egg drop. For you late eaters, they close at 10:00pm. read more

This place is "okay". The food could be a lot better, but at the same time it could be much worse. It's a typical Chinese take out with nothing special. The fried rice, lo mein, chow fun, and rice noodles here lack flavor, but it is edible. I had much better from other chinese take outs. The chicken and brocolli and general taos chicken are good, but make sure you get it with white rice and not fried rice. I go to school in Stony Brook and this place is 5 minutes from my apartment so I will keep coming back until I discover somewhere out here with good fried rice and noodles. read more

Unfortunately, this restaurant has gone DOWN HILL! We've been ordering from here for years, but the last 3x's, has NOT been good. We think the place either has new owners, or a new manager, or has changed it's recipes or is just really cutting corners. They don't even include the 2 liter bottle of soda anymore. Now, It's ONLY-- if you pick up the order! They are cutting corners! We have ordered several times this year. The 1st. time: We thought the problem was, it was too close to closing or maybe our taste buds. The 2nd. time: We had a guest and she and I got sick on the lemon sauce (that came w/the lemon chicken), we both did note while we were eating, that the lemon sauce was different...very watery this time. We were the only ones to eat the lemon sauce and the only ones to get sick! That was it! I swore that was the last time I would order from them--2 chances are enough. But, we wanted Chinese and I caved in to delivery (we just wouldn't order the same dishes as last time). Well, the food did come quickly, but it wasn't very flavorful. Our 2 chicken dishes looked as if the chicken had been boiled; with very thin, oily and bland sauces poured on top! Not even a lot of veggies either. We were disappointed yet again. We should have known better. We JUST HAVE TO find a good Chinese place that delivers, or I have to learn how to cook a few Chinese dishes! Because, at this point it's ridiculous and we are PAYING for this!! It can't be very hard to learn a few dishes. A lot of Chinese food restraunts will substitute tofu for meat at no charge, however it is usually cooked horribly and tastes like it was never undrained. Panda Garden is different. The food is always delicious and the tofu is always cooked and prepared perfectly. They will even substitute a veggie spring roll for the egg roll, and veg fried rice for pork... all at no charge. This is a very typical Chinese Restaurant which populate virtually every strip mall in the area. The food is average and would generally get 3 stars. Yesterday when I arrived a person behind the counter was wiping down some table in the prep area with something that smelled strongly of ammonia. Clean is good and she was wearing gloves for the task. After I placed my order, with her still gloved hands, she took food out of the fridge and out it in the fryer. This was disgusting and I left. If that is how they opearate in the front where I can see them you have to wonder what happens in the back. read more

This is the best American Chinese Food in the area by a long, long shot. They are incredibly fast, they say 10 minutes but I think it is more like 6-7. The food tastes great, with the proviso that, of course, it is not authentic, but you can really tell the difference between what Panda Garden cooks for you and what others do. It really looks like another run-of-the-mill place, but it isn't. It's better. If you leave 10-15 minutes from this place, you should certainly have your take-out with them. And, besides, they are very conveniently located in the cross between Middle Country Rd and Nichols so, almost no matter where you are going, you are bound to go through or pass sufficiently close by. read more
