Asian grandpa stamp of approval!!
Kaia B.

I've been coming here with my family since they opened, and can say with confidence that their fresh hand pulled noodles are fully on par with those you can get in Chinatown. It's the perfect place to come on a cold winter night- very nice and inviting yet clean and modern. The staff are quick to take your order, and the hot noodle soups are ready almost instantly. We usually get a cold jellyfish salad or cucumber appetizer and hand pulled noodle soups all around. Most recently I got the beef hand pulled noodle soup with a braised egg, and it was delicious. The broth was so rich and flavorful, and the beef flank practically melts in your mouth. At splendid noodle you can order extra meat, veggies, noodles, or an egg to have with your soup. I highly recommend the braised egg, as it seemed to be braised in the same deliciously spiced beef stock that I had in my soup. The baby bok choy, scallions and cilantro are all so fresh and bright, never wilted. All of the flavors were perfect. The roast duck soup is excellent, and so is the beef with extra tendon. Also a side note... you know it's a legit Chinese restaurant when they've got the dark vinegar, homemade chili oil (which they sell for $10 a jar), and TOOTHPICKS at each table!! Jokes aside, we love splendid noodle and are always eager to return when in stony brook.

Meat in the "veggie broth." Not vegetarian. They lie.
Andi B.

Meat in their "veggie broth" I spoke with the employees at length before ordering. I asked if they did a veggie broth. They said yes. I asked if there was any meat in the veggie broth at all. They said "no meat." I asked if it even used meat stock. They said no. So I ordered it. And I ate it. And I get halfway through, only to find something very meat-like in my mouth... I was wary to begin with. I ordered from them before, and the veggie noodles tasted... off, to me, as a vegetarian. That's why I had a long talk with them in advance about the broth. I even put in the notes for the order, "Vegetarian. No meat at all. Veggie broth. No meat broth." This restaurant is disgusting. Don't eat here.

We try this place for first time , we had the hand pulled noodles beef ramen which was very good .the only complain we had was the place looks sloppy and looks a little dirty . But the food was good .

Food (5/5): Delicious noodles that I very much enjoyed. We ordered it to go and the food remained delicious even though we traveled from Long Island to Jersey before eating it. We ordered the spare rib and duck noodles. The broth was flavorful and the spare rib meat was fall of the bone. Top notch noodles. It was cool seeing the man make the noodles in front of you. Service (4/5): They took our order efficiently and no issues with getting the food out for to go. They packed sauces, utensils, and put the food in good containers. They nicely separated the noodles and ingredients from the soup. Ambiance (4/5): Nice spacious restaurant with plenty of seating when we saw it. We ordered for to-go but it seems like it would've been nice to sit in the restaurant.

They have great chop sticks and chili oil, but that is about it. This is a take out restaurant. My group should have turned around when at 6:30 Saturday night we walked into an empty dining room. The three workers scattered when we stepped in. Cafeteria tables, linoleum floor plastic cups. Hoping to find a diamond in the rough we sat. In the pause while we sat the female server asked if we were ready to order. This was a theme the whole time, the looming lady just staring over our shoulder.. the noodle slapping show started up for a few minutes. The noodles were the only redeeming quality of their ramen dishes. We ordered angus beef, regular beef and a lamb ramen. We got gray shaved grizzle, brown sliced grizzle and gray tender lamb along with a sprinkle of green in a canned broth. As mentioned the noodles were good. For 12$-15$ per you could easily fill your belly along with every gap between your teeth. We each learned why toothpicks were on the table. Notable decor included pictures of the noodle bowls looking their best along one wall and every piece of restaurant inventory stacked along the rest. There was a Pho restaurant nearby which will be our next try. But Splendid Noodle will get not one more dollar.

This has been our go to for authentic hand pulled noodles and decided to try something different. The dipping sauce had a little kick for the skewers but good. Service quick and efficient as usual.

It's okay but nothing to write home about. I wanted ramen and considering I'm not familiar with the area someone recommended this place. I tried the noodle dish with ribeye. It was okay broth, noodles, bok choy, cilantro. I also ordered a pork bun which was a little salty and the pork was overcooked. It wasn't terrible but I wouldn't order it again. I think because I had in mind what I wanted my expectations were very high.

Beef flank noodle

We ordered the splendid house noodles (which came with various cuts of meat, shrimp, and a delicious fried egg), the beef flank noodles, and the fish ball Oden. All of it came out super quick (less than 10 min) and it was delicious. You can see the chefs hand pulling the noodles in the kitchen while you wait! Generous portions of noodles and meat, as you can see in the photos. I would keep eating and discover even more beef pieces at the bottom. Well seasoned and not too salty. Ate it all and felt incredibly satisfied! Also the prices really cannot be beat for these dishes - I will be back!

Found this gem in Stony Brook! Just about 10 minute drive from our home. We are so glad we found this place. Noodles are legit, broth is on point! We will definitely be coming back. And don't forget to try the house chili sauce! (After having the taste of the original broth, of course).

OVERVIEW: Lanzhou (pronounced (Lan Joe) is a large city located in northwestern china. Its known worldwide, for its signature hand pulled noodles, called Lanzhou la mian. To create la mian, the noodle chef vigorously kneads, stretches, and folds a large portion of dough until it's ready. He then breaks off a small portion, and stretches it between his extended arms. Next, he folds the strand in half and streaches it again, repeating this process, until there are multiple strands of thin noodles. At this point, the noodles are placed directly into a boiling pot of water. Thereby, creating the freshest possible noodles, with an amazing texture and chew. So now, if this all seems intriguing, you can experience these special, fresh pulled noodles in Stonybrook, at Splendid Noodle. Keep in mind though, that this restaurant mainly focuses on noodle soups. And, we all know, when an establishment pays a great deal of attention to making a particular item, the results are usually fantastic. And such is the case, here, at Splendid Noodle. The rich, deep, complex broth, flavored with Chinese herbs and spices, is unlike any standard soup, or Japanese ramen broth. When ordering, you choose, either delicious vegetables, marinated meats, or seafood from the menu list, to add to your soup. Finally, you can doll it up, with a fried, or marinated soy sauce egg. Now, all this together, with the fresh hand pulled noodles, just pushes the enjoyment level over the top. Even more, the portion size is large, and quite filling. Lastly, to change things up, you can order your soup with fresh knife shaved noodles. These are shorter, and much thicker with a very chewy texture. The menu also offers cold sesame noodles, and noodles with minced pork, but the reason you really come here, is for the noodle soups. In addition, there are some fantastic cold appetizers, oden (similar to skewers, but prepared differently) , and delicious Chinese lamb or pork burgers. These burgers are listed as buns, but they are really authentic Chinese meat sandwiches - also known as, rou jia mo. WHAT TO ORDER: -The cucumber salad appetizer has fantastic flavors, and is just a little spicy. -The cold marinated beef appetizer is spicy, tender and delicious. -All of the soup choices are fantastic. But I feel the beef flank, or the fall off the bone spare rib soups are killer good. The standard beef soup is also great, if you prefer a fattier cut of meat. -All the seafood soups are made with fresh shrimps and/or clams. -Definetly try one of the Chinese burgers. The pork burger is savory and delicious. The lamb burger is even better, with a little bit of a spice kick. -The oden are tasty, and a little spicy. Can eat these separately or add to your soup. PARTING THOUGHTS: If you've only visited Japanese ramen restaurants previously, please understand that what is served here, will be vastly different in style and substance. But, if you are familiar with what is served here, rest assured that Splendid Noodle offers THE BEST authentic Lanzhou style hand pulled noodle soups, on Long Island. And to experience something significantly better, a very long drive to Flushing Chinatown, is necessary.

Ask the Community - Splendid Noodle

Is it still takeout only? They used to have tables outside, I wonder if they are utilizing them for outdoor dining.

Mid November 2020 still take out only, they said might open next month.

Can we eat inside/outside or is it just takeout?

Just take out for the time being

We had a decent meal and I thoroughly enjoyed their soups and dumplings. I'm not sure if it's due to the pandemic but I feel like the quality of the food fell off. The have a small parking lot located in the rear of the establishment. They're a small restaurant but have plenty of seating. When we ate here the first time, they were extremely packed in the middle of the day but on this particular day, they were very empty. I arrived hoping to get a myriad of dumplings but unfortunately, they now only have three types: chicken, pork & leek, and pork & Chinese cabbage. I ordered two each of the chicken and the pork & leek, all pan-fried. I was going to order some pork buns as well but the guy taking my order said they would take 20 minutes to make. I declined because we still had to drive back home another 90 minutes. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes for the 4 orders of dumplings and I'm unsure as to why. If I would have known they would have taken that long I would have said forget it. I also ordered some frozen chicken dumplings and paid for them but was told they ran out. Instead of bothering with a refund, I just told them to sub the pork & leek dumplings. When we finally got our order, we rushed home. I warmed up the dumplings for dinner by steaming them for a couple of minutes, and served with some quick ramen, addicting cucumber and a dumpling sauce I had to make because they didn't come with any sauce at all. They were OK. They are filled quite nicely but the flavor is definitely not as I expected or remembered. The chicken dumplings we "meh" but the pork & leek tasted much better. A few of them tore open very easily. Regarding the establishment itself, they could do some cleaning in there. I know it's a college area restaurant but while we waited, we noticed a lot of concerning things. Their doors are utterly disgusting. They are painted white and it looks as though they've never been wiped down. There is so much grime and crud from people touching them. Neither bathroom had soap which is a HUGE red flag. If the staff also uses the bathrooms, who's washing their hands correctly, and how? I also saw one of the guys in the kitchen wipe his face with tissue and place it on a tray. He neither had gloves on or cleaned his hands afterwards. He legit, went right back to handling food and the pans. I'm sure many people don't really pay attention despite there being an open kitchen but since we were not wanting to wait there that long and we were wondering why our order was taking so long, we had all the time in the world to just observe. The dining area really isn't very clean and I would probably skip another visit in the future.

The iced Vietnamese coffee is already premixed, but the hot version they give a side of the condensed milk so you can add as much or little you want. I tried their spring rolls which had a nice crisp bite. It was also served with pickled daikon and carrots for a nice refresher. For the entree I got the pho bo vein which had beef meatballs as the protein. The basil, jalapeño slices, bean sprouts and lime slice are on the side, so you can add as much to your liking. When we walked in, the restaurant felt run-down and it was freezing inside. It was so cold that my entire family kept our winter jackets on the whole meal ,I even had to keep my hood up. We noticed other diners were also wearing their coats, which says a lot. I repeatedly had to ask for hot tea just to stay warm. Service was also lacking. The waiter was inattentive, and despite the restaurant not being busy, no one came by to check on us or ask how the food was. As for the food: * The soup dumplings had almost no soup inside, and the dough was thick and heavy. * The egg and tomato soup was completely bland and had almost no flavor. One thing that may explain the high number of reviews: there's a QR code on the wall offering free bubble tea in exchange for leaving a review. That definitely makes the rating feel inflated. Honestly, if this restaurant were located in Flushing, it probably wouldn't last long given the level of competition and food quality standards there. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Red Tiger based on our visit
