Authentic food. Great seating area to enjoy your food. Came here on a cold day to warm up my insides with a hot noodle bowl. Definitely worth it and the service was great.

Insect in F15. Vegetable Lo Mein
Christian W.

I would not recommend ordering from here. Recently, I ordered a vegetable lo mein, only to find out that there was an insect in my dish. I am very upset about this and hope the restaurant owners take notice. This is unsafe. I choose not to continue eating the dish. The taste of the lo mein it self was 3/5, but -2 stars for the insect.

I've noticed that my last couple of reviews have been negative. I must need a vacation because this was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. It's Friday evening and typically after we close our office my wife and I go to dinner. Well she's feeling under the weather and requested Chinese food hoping to get some Won Ton soup. We started at China Station but it was way too busy and no seats. We go a block west to this place. First, it's a building behind "The Bench" restaurant, but don't get them confused. OK we walk in and start checking the menu. Try to ask a couple of questions but the lady behind the counter seems to no understanding of English. My wife orders Pork and Chinese vegetables which, according to the menu, comes with soup and white rice. She asks for Won Ton soup. The lady says no. After a couple of minutes we finally figure out she's telling us only egg drop soup. Pay extra for Won Ton. WHAT? My wife who always and I mean always wants to be companionate says Ok we'll pay. She also asks for an order of Pork Gyoza. Again NO. Only vegetable Gyoza. Again my wife agrees. Now I order. Kung Bao Chicken. Of course only egg drop soup. OK, but can I have fried rice I ask? NO. OK I'll pay extra. She again tells me No. Food comes out. Worst and I mean worst Chinese food I've had since the Chinese food I had years ago Down Port, in what is now Lo Cal's. Egg drop soup? Who are you kidding this was not egg drop soup. Here's what was in it. Some sliced carrots, slices of onions. A little bit of celery, and a couple of pieces of boiled chicken. You guessed it " Chicken Soup", and not good at that. Needless to say we didn't finish and have no plans to ever ever go back. Oh yes, with this meal comes a hard boiled egg that was brown in color. Looked like a piece of _____. Never Mind. Sorry I cannot suggest anyone going to this place.

H4. Mapo Tofu

The food was amazingly delicious! I ordered Mapo Tofu and Sesame Chicken this time. I removed one star from my rating because at the moment when I arrived at the restaurant, there was no clerk working there and I had to just pick up the food by myself. I wasn't fully informed that no one will be there. However, it was my first time ordering Mafo Tofu and I was really satisfied with my choice :) please try!

When its the only game in town and you're in the mood for some noodles or chow fun or a home style rice dish, this is the place to come to. Definitely authentic Chinese food and not your typical fast food take out fare. Come in with an appetite and enjoy some of the authentic dishes you would expect to find in Chinatown. Staff is very friendly and accommodating so don't be afraid to ask questions.

My go-to order here is the pad Thai. It has a great flavor and is spicy! My biggest complaint with this dish at other restaurants is that they don't spice it enough. But 1089 does a great job with the heat. This is not the best pad Thai I've ever had, but it is one of the best in this area. I wish they had a shrimp option. The spring roll and egg roll are also good here and they are inexpensive add-ons.

Pork lo mein with white rice

We went her for the first time recently. The eatery is hidden all the way in the back between two buildings off of 25a in Stony Brook. If you weren't looking for it you'd never find, hence the reason this is my first visit. When you walk in there's not much when it comes to decor, pretty much four walls, a walk up counter to order and a few tables. From the looks of it they probably do more take out. We ordered the pad thai, chicken and brown with plain lo mein, lo mein with white rice and roast pork soup. The dishes were good. My daughter thought her lo mein had too much garlic, which I'd have to agree. Other than that, all are food was good enough to give it another try.

I go here since it's close to Stony Brook University. It's only a 15 minute walk from my dorm and a bit cheaper than Asian campus food. It's a bit overpriced compared to the prices I'm used to in New York City, but it's in Long Island. You can have a filling meal for less than $10! Ten 89 is a bit hard to locate if you're going for the first time at night. They have a sign, but you have to walk a bit to find the actual store. Service is good and they know how to communicate well in English. I ordered both delivery and sat inside the store. Delivery was a bit weird since my friends and I were paying by card. The person on the phone asked for all the digits of the credit card and the security code on the back.. It made us feel somewhat unsafe since they could find ways to charge through credit, like having a machine connected to their phones or something when they bring us the delivery. The food is good and the fried rice reminded me of something my mom would make me when I was a child. When I ordered delivery for noodles, I felt as if the portions were a bit small. I first got their white thick noodles when I asked for udon. They have pictures in store for customers to choose their desired noodle. When I sat inside to eat, my food was filled to the top. Would highly recommend the pork fried rice.

Ten 89 Noodle House is an Asian restaurant. It is located near Stonybrook University. I have driven by it thousands of times. Tonight my friend wants to have dinner here. Okay, I pretty much do whatever she tells me especially since I do respect her taste in dining. She's a closet "foodie". It's cold out and rainy so I'm thinking a nice bowl of soup will do me good. It's a small building behind another restaurant and parking is okay. We go in and you have to go up to the register to order your meal. The menu is in Chinese and English. My friend orders a wonton noodle bowl. And I notice they have Mei Fun with pork/beef/chicken/shrimp/vegetable. So I tell them I want a house version which traditionally is all of that all together. She says we don't have that. Okay, then the guy next to her mumbles something in Chinese and she says okay we have that. Yayyy, I'm getting House Mei Fun $10.95. Oh and I ordered a wonton noodle bowl too $6.95. So we sit and wait for just a few minutes and out comes our food. Nice and HOT!!! It's all served in take out dishes. The soup was really good. The house Mei Fun had a lot of ginger in it, not my favorite, but after getting past that I really liked it. I would definitely come back here!!! In fact, I'm thinking about going back on the weekend!! I have to add that the menu does list a lot of your traditional Chinese/American dishes. But I think it expands more on the authentic Chinese cuisine as well. They cater to the Asian student population from the university as well. A little taste of home while they are studying to be Doctors.

R9 Pork with String beans and some sort of onion tofu soup $7.75

Pretty good Chinese noodle at a decent price, although it's a little on the salty side. There are plenty of seats inside and since it's self service there is no need to leave a tip.

Our go to dishes are the beef in chili sauce, seafood noodles, and beef flank.. everything is consistently delicious. If you like a little heat, definitely try the chili sauce they have on the tables it takes everything to the next level. I believe the same broth is applied to all bowls so the only options you have to choose are either: hand pulled/hand cut noodles and your choice of meat, I prefer hand pulled. Now, I've had the house noodle bowl in the past in an effort to sample their meats. My conclusion is that the ribs are their best option. They are deceptively flavorful and fall off the bone easily. Their noodles have a great chew and mouthfeel while the broth is delicately beefy/porky. I love to jazz it up with the table vinegar and chili oil. As for serving size, these bowls are giant so you will leave full. If you still have some room though check out their oden selection. I like the fish cake/ball and chinese sausage varieties, they come with a lovely sweet and salty chili sauce that packs a punch. These noodles are truly splendid and even more so in the colder months.

They don't take reservations. After about 10 minutes my friend and I plus 3 teens (my kids and a friend) were starving and Schnitzels was loud and crowded. We headed a few doors down to Sweet Mama's. Seated immediately. My friend and I shared the steak with penne dinner special and a Cobb salad with grilled chicken. My daughter ordered penne with butter off the kids menu. My son got a turkey burger and his friend got a grilled chicken sandwich on a hero instead of a wrap. Now the good -- portions were huge! My son could barely fit his burger in his mouth and it also had a half avocado on it. They didn't skimp. Steak with penne was delicious and so was the Cobb salad. We all shared off each other's plates because everything looked so amazing. Now the bad. My daughter's pasta was elbows, not penne as indicated on the menu. Not a catastrophe but she was looking forward to penne. Then - my son's friend put some ketchup on his plate for his fries. It was ,.. not red but brown. The bottle had an 8/25 expiration. We are in April 2026. We told the server and she said it's because it's the "simply ketchup" with no artificial dyes. She offered him ketchup packets "with fake dyes" but by that point he lost his appetite for fries. We grabbed ketchup from another table, same brand, Heinz Simply. You can see the difference in color. We showed the server and she acted annoyed. I told her we didn't want anyone getting sick on that ketchup and pointed out the expiration date. She rolled her eyes and said "oh I'll just throw it away." She kind of had an attitude and didn't even apologize. So that's why 4 stars. We'd go back but request not to have that server. The food is fantastic but watch your ketchup! If someone put it on a burger it would have been ruined.

Not terrible, but also not memorable…read more Sweet Mama's is a hybrid concept tucked away in the adorable Stony Brook Village. On one end, ice cream. In the middle, restaurant, and towards the back, a bar. Surprisingly at 11am, for a table of four, we waited about 10 mins for a table. We ordered a variety of things, from soup, to bennys and a mimosa flight. The mimosa flight was very cute but mine ended up tasting just like white wine. The real disappointment imo was the Belgian Waffle. Now I know, part of this is my fault, for expecting more than what the description laid out. But for $12 I got one crispy and tender waffle with powdered sugar and that was it. No side of fruit, no home fries, nothing. Everyone else enjoyed their food, which I was happy about! And service was wonderful. But for $12 for one waffle, this place may be a biiiiiiit overpriced for my liking.

With that being said, some of the food was still warm when it got to us, and it was tasty for the most part. Both my husband and MIL ordered their Gyodon, with beef brisket and seasoned egg over rice. I opted for the Iron Tonkotsu Ramen and my kiddo got the Chicken Shoyu Ramen. All of the mains were great. No one had any complaints. We also had their spring rolls which were bland and hard, their shrimp lollipops which were OK, and their crispy shrimp shumai which were OK. The appetizers were kind of cold so they weren't as good. The location of the restaurant was a little far but the food also took over 90 minutes to arrive despite our requesting a speedy delivery with extra charge.
