I like saying the word "Schnitzels." It might just be the name of a German dish, but pluralizing it gives off a fun/inviting vibe which I guess you could say was the case when my wife and I visited this quaint restaurant a few weeks ago. Located in the Stony Brook Village is where you'll find Schnitzels which hides itself towards the end of a strip of stores. A bit unsuspecting from the outside for what feels like a cozy pub once you've entered through its doors. The place is small so a busier time than the somewhat early dinner we were having might have resulted in a wait, but luckily we snagged a table right away. What did take a little time was some aspects of service. I'm definitely not here to badmouth any server or person working as everyone seemed friendly, but things moved a little slow (from first being greeted, to getting our drinks, and for when the food came). Perhaps one more employee working at the bar or a bus boy might've remedied this, but also perhaps I'm nitpicking (the mind of a Yelper never rests, sorry). What's really important though is the food, and Schnitzels' menu of German grub is relatively vast. In an attempt to not over order, my wife and I shared a giant pretzel for an app to begin with (though the fried pickles sounded like a winner and were almost a secondary starter). This knitted monster came with some mustard and cheese sauce with each bite being light, doughy, and delicious. For the main course my wife went with a chicken schnitzel sandwich and I went with what they called "The Standard" which was a choice of wurst (brat for me) and came with potato salad on the side. Trying both I thought they were equally tasty with (honestly) my wife's being a little more flavorful. Don't get me wrong, mine definitely hit the spot, but almost seemed like an oversized hot dog then a bratwurst. Oh and that potato salad was legit. This was also washed down with a nice pint of Dunkel. If you're up for it, you can get "the boot" which, at a different time, I might've considered "wearing" in my hand, but that's for a tentative return trip. Overall, Schnitzels was a reasonably solid German spot worthy of checking out. I'll throw em four stars with some two thumbs up on certain aspects and a few sideways thumbs on some others that could probably be fixed or depends on what you're ordering. I mentioned a return trip and I think that could definitely happen with location being a factor too. Worth a shot and a visit, especially if you like saying the word Schnitzels!

Schnitzels Stony Brook, NY @eatschnitzels Schnitzels is a German-American gastropub known for its awesome variety's of schnitzel, German beer, and pub fare. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and serving up amazing meals at each. Choose from 5 different gravies and then your schnitzel. Traditionally served with pork or veal, but they do have chicken or eggplant as well! I went with the classic Weinershnitzel which is traditionally served with veal schnitzel and served with brown gravy. Lindsey got the Chicken Rahmschnitzel which is schnitzel topped with a creamy white reisling-infused mushroom gravy. Both were filled with flavor and we were very impressed! All schnitzel is served with spätzle, seasonal vegetables, and red cabbage. This was the definition of a comfort meal that. We started with their Bavarian Cheese Board, and classic German appetizers - potatoes pancakes paired with this insane apple butter, and potato dumplings with your choice of gravy. We loved the vibe in there. Great pub style feel but also nice indoor and outdoor eating. Our server Eden was amazing and such a great help! We truly loved this place and we can wait to go back! Go get your German food fix! For full video review and much more, follow us on Instagram @drinklongislandny

Cute restaurant located in a small strip mall area. We started with the potato pancakes that was a nice size enough for 2 . Served with a nice apple butter to dip. My fellow dinner had the loaded potato soup served with a nice bread stick to dip into the soup . He said it was delicious and hearty. We each had a signature dish schnitzel and felt the schnitzel was a tad dry .They had been there before and said it was great but maybe today it was just something off . Red cabbage was tasty , fresh vegetables really good and the Spätzle was plain as it usually is in general . Great specials and menu options, just think the food could have been slightly better, but would give it another try.

What a disappointment. Food was incredibly BLAND! The only good thing in our meal was the cheese curds we had for appetizer. Service was so odd, she asked if we needed a jox while We were still eating out food. My drink was empty by the time I was done with apps, she never refilled my glass again. The fish a S chips was gross! Like smell bad kinda gross. If you wants appetizers and drinks, give it a try. If not try another place.

Really cute casual restaurant in a pretty plaza. The service was very prompt and friendly. They had a really nice selection of food. Everything from wraps to entrees. I had a delicious sauerbraten with roasted vegetables paired with a dry Riesling. Everyone's meal was great, wraps, burgers, schnitzels and dessert.

While shopping in the Stony Brook Village Center we came across a charming German restaurant called Schnitzels and enjoyed a little taste of German cuisine. Although small, the restaurant has a bar with seating along with seating for table service. In addition there's a small area devoted to live music on specific days. We started with the Wurst Platter featuring 4 wursts: knockwurst, bratwurst, krainerwurst and cheddar bratwurst served with pretzel bites, red cabbage and sauerkraut. The platter is a wursts lover dream. Dinner was the traditional German pork jagerschnitzel and wienerschnitzel platters both served with spatzle, red cabbage and seasonal vegetables. Both cooked to perfection with generous portions. Topped off dinner with the apple strudel and was pleasantly surprised to see the strudel was prepared with raisins which I've never received at other "authentic" German restaurants. Schnitzels has a nice selection of both wines and German beers and offers different events throughout the week including happy hours and lunch specials. We met one of the owners Storm, who happened to be our server, who was both welcoming and customer service oriented. It was a welcomed sight observing the owners serving tables and engaging with the customers. Schnitzels is a small community oriented authentic German restaurant offering great food and outstanding service. We will definitely be back and if you're in the mood for German food Che k out Schnitzels, you won't be disappointed.

I can't recommend Schnitzels enough! Awesome ambiance, phenomenal service, huge portions and delicious food. The schnitz sandwich is a 10/10. Came in on a thursday night around 5:30 pm and by 6 every table was taken. Not surprised after trying the food! The menu is HUGE and has a wide variety of options. I can't wait to go back.

Came here to celebrate my dear friend's bday. I would come back just for those German pancakes ; those pancakes were the show stopper for me. Love the ambiance and service as well. Could be a cool place to kick off Octoberfest for sure !! Love SB village they always have great dinner spots.

Cozy Taste of Germany at Schnitzels! Tucked away in quite a charming Stony Brook, Schnitzels is a small restaurant serving good Getman food. While it may not be the most high-end or traditional German restaurant around, it serves fresh ingredients, has an inviting atmosphere, and genuinely great service. The space itself is small but thoughtfully decorated, rustic, cozy, and a nice homestyle vibe. The menu sticks to the classics - hearty schnitzels, sausages, potato sides, fried pickles, red cabbage, spatzle, and much more! The food appears to be cooked fresh, dishes are tasty, well-prepared, and satisfying. Beer is great! Zicke Zacke Hoi Hoi Hoi!! Prost! The staff are attentive, friendly, and eager to make your experience enjoyable. One slight negative note is that they are a little disorganized when it comes to wait times. I've been here at times being quoted a 20 min wait which turned into a 45min wait. And on the other side of things was quoted a 15 minute wait, which turned into a five minute wait lol. Overall, If you're looking for a relaxed, no-fuss place to enjoy some good German comfort food, Schnitzels is absolutely worth a visit. This place is part of the rotation for us and friends.

Great experience. The only downside is they don't take reservations. We got here and waited about 20 minutes for the table to open up. There was space at the bar so we took a full advantage to get a drink and some appetizers. The sausage wurst platter was great! It comes with four different sausages, mustard, two types or cabbages and pretzel bites. The fried pickles is a memorable mention. And the beer is to die for. The mains did not disappoint as well. We got beef goulash (totally delicious) and he blacked chicken platter. I can honestly say both have been a delicious addition to our routine. Thanks do the hospitable staff and yummy food, we leave very happy customers.

Schnitzels in Stony Brook is a great place to have dinner. Last night I had the steak sandwich; it was delicious. Their Fish and Chips are perfectly cooked, and the pastrami sandwich is incredible. In fact, everything I tried over the past few months has been great. One of my favorite apps is the Giant Pretzel that you can share. It comes out on a wheel with all different toppings. Since the portions are generous, I always bring home a piece of German Chocolate Cake and Black Forest Cake to have the next day. The service was perfect. Our waitress was attentive and quickly brought our drinks and food. We were there for trivia last night. My group always has a great time. And much to our surprise, we actually won! Schnitzels is the perfect place to have a good meal with friends. I highly recommend it!

Our friends took me and my husband to this place and it's just what we needed for lunch. If you're craving schnitzel done right, this spot delivers. The food was absolutely delicious--crispy, perfectly seasoned schnitzel that hit the spot. We had 1 chicken and 1 pork. Plates were pretty big and well served! The ambiance was super cute and cozy, with just the right mix of charm and character. Bonus points for the beer served in a boot--such a fun touch that made the whole experience even more memorable. Whether you're a schnitzel fan or just looking for a fun place with great vibes, this place is worth the visit!

We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. To wit, there was nothing here but an exceptional experience with a like-minded wine enthusiast. I felt welcomed and in the frith of old kin. Nasty, belligerent, dullard atmosphere- indeed not. Cool spot with a Manhattan vibe "behind" Main Street in Patchogue…read more The reason this is key is because, since they face out to the firehouse and residential areas, parking USUALLY isn't a problem. There's a small lot that's free and you can park on Jennings. (sorry residents). We went on NYE so had to park several blocks away. No biggie. The inside is dark and cool with a city-vibe. Ample bar space and 1-4 tops an some banquet seating that lets you look out over the street. We were greeted right away by what turned out to be our server and seated promptly by the windows (we had a reservation). Also greeted by a gentleman that we think might have been her dad. The young lady hustled all night and managed the crowd well. We never waited too long for her to check in on us and she was very helpful with selecting wine and clarifying menu items. That being said, THIS IS A SMALL PLATES JOINT. People expecting full-sized portions should adjust their expectations accordingly. We did, however, order the Trastavere seafood platter (medium) which came as a tower and seemed impressive. Two types of oysters (large and medium) were presented; briny and fresh and pretty damned tasty. There was also a ceviche and tuna tartare that was, unfortunately, a bit unremarkable, as was the shrimp cocktail (though the shrimps were pretty hefty). The American "black caviar" was a nice way to commemorate the meal. Nutty with a pop of salinity but maybe something you can skip. We meant to order the Carne e Formaggi but got the Gamberetto instead which was fine as it was pretty tasty nonetheless (made with shrimp but it almost tasted like smoked salmon). Virgola Manhattan was good but pretty standard. Follow-up drink of dirty Manhattan was blissfully salty and cold. But back to the menu: we are unsure if they have an actual kitchen back there which would also explain the small plates concept and oyster and chilled fish options. The bruschetta was tasty, as mentioned, but it seems like they cut and toasted the bread and topped it with the crudo. The other bruschetta options featured ingredients from other menu items that could be re-purposed for multiple dishes. Smart but expect this. We plan on returning and trying the charcuterie board (mix and match cheeses and meats) and some cocktails. Overall, a nice night out and a nice option for dining and drinking around Patchogue. Cheers!

I ended up taking half home and my husband ate it and said it was delicious as well. The other guest ordered the meatballs and I tasted them and they were quite delicious. By the time the meal was over we left with half a sandwich half a flatbread and some extra meatballs. For dessert: we got a llimoncello flute and I got the largest lemon beautifully presented with lemon sorbet! I told us I don't usually take pictures of my food, but this was photo worthy! The wine was one of my favorite Sauvignon Blanc that I've ever had in my life! We will definitely go back for the food and definitely will be purchasing the wine again! 4/5 food 10/5 for the service and ambience Thank you for a wonderful experience on a beautiful afternoon! Overall, ranking above five just due to the experience

Such a beautiful place. Don't recommend sitting outside in the heat tho lol. Amazing service…read more 4/5 lemonade slushie $11- sour & sweet, really good & hit so well in 96 degrees 4/5 sweet & spicy grilled calamari $40 - this was really good, I didn't mind the sweetness, which is a surprise, crunchy exterior with slightly chewy squid, comes with potato & Caesar salad. The potato was pretty good took. I didnt mind so much grass (lettuce) for once. The cheese on top of the lettuce is pretty salty but the creamy dressing balances it out. The spicy sauce on the side was way too spicy for me. 3/5 Bavarian pretzel $17- pretzel itself is standard, comes with honey mustard, spicy brown mustard, & mayo sriracha. I liked both of the mustards. 3/5 Meat & cheese board $59- didn't try the meat or bread but comes with grapes, cranberries, dates, olives & nuts. Everything I tried was decent.
