My fiancé and I decided to change up our routine and order from somewhere new/different. Yum May it was. I called it in to be picked up, and within 15 mins it was ready! We ordered steamed pork dumplings, pork egg fo young and beef and broccoli combo with $2 extra beef. Everything was very good! We really liked the dumplings! They were packed with pork and the dumpling sauce had a nice spice to it. My fiancé said the egg roll was really good. The egg fo young comes in orders of 2 or 4. I've never seen that before. Normally it's just an order of 3. 2 was perfect as I was barely able to finish. They were nice and thick omelets. Very flavorful and filling. My fiancé also really enjoyed his beef and broccoli. Pick up was also a breeze. Employees were friendly. We will definitely be adding this spot to our rotation! read more

Returning from Islip where we picked up Dinner from Tellers, we felt the need for Chinese takeout... Travelling East on Montauk Hwy we passed many shuttered venues. When we were going thru Bayport, we saw a strip mall with alot of cars and pulled in to see what it was all about. Well, this strip had Italian, Sushi and chinese available for takeout. Yum May was doing great business, with people waiting outside maintaining a safe distance and wearing protective masks. I went in to order and found the staff behind a plastic shielding them from the customers and vice versa! They have an extensive menu and I ordered 8 pint sized dishes ; Egg roll, Roast pork w/chinese veggies, Chicken w/eggplant, pork lo mein, RP Egg Foo Young, RP Chow Fun and Roast Pork. Everything was really delish and we enjoyed our 1st Chinese meal in 2 months. Ordered boneless chicken, they Cooked it in a microwave then put it in the deep fryer, when the lady took it out and cut it up it must not have been cooked because she put it back in the deep fryer, needless to say it was horrible, it was tough to chew and unable to eat, the spare rib on the bone we even tougher hard and dry, $50 worth of garbage !!! read more

The food is good. But 2 nights ago they once again put MSG in our orders when I repeated twice, I can't have. Told them when I ordered, and questioned again when I picked up. I ended up so sick I had to lay down after eating about 1/4 of it. Husband almost drove me to the hospital my symptoms became so severe and worrisome (splitting head, chest pains, pain in arms, nausea, elevated blood pressure). We have decided we can't go back as this has happened a few times now. Closer, local Chinese restaurant never uses msg so will be going there from now on. read more

There's a map of the world adorning the West wall of this small dining area / take out area. The specials are listed on the East side of the area on a erasable marker board. It's a strip mall location and easily missed. On this day they had Hong Kong Fried Rice and the Wonton w/ szechuan sauce listed as the specials both came around 10$.There was a lot of food. I fully suspected that I'd leave with leftovers. No dice. so good it didn't happen. The Wontons had an Oyster Sauce which was sort of sweet and rich. The Rice was everything along with the kitchen sink. Really fresh ingredients and Yum May definitely has their own flavor as it's not bogged down and heavy as a lot of the other local joints seem to kill the dishes with the sauce per dish. I'd do a little extra driving to come back here. It's a mostly take out spot but It was an ok place to dine in. read more

I have been coming to Yum May since they opened over a decade ago. To date, I have not found better Chinese food anywhere in NY, NJ, PA, or TX. This is always one of my first places to stop after flying in to Long Island. The restaurant is VERY small- only 2 tables, so most of their business comes from carryout. Everyone is always nice. And the two main guys that work the counter remember me every time I come in, and what I order.... over 9 years after I left the Island. The food is perfect, the portions are generous (the take out boxes are always stuffed to the brim). Notice to those sensitive to MSG- this place may not be for you. Order the Chicken and Broccoli. Very pleasantly surprised with this place. I grew up around here and only went to Yum May a few times but didn't remember much about it. After moving back to the area I was on the hunt for a fresh and good Chinese place to make my go to spot. This is it! We ordered four things: Beef lo mein - delicious and VERY fresh Cream cheese wontons - some of the crispiest freshest ones I've ever had Dumplings - here's where they stumble. I didn't remember their dumplings from when I was younger, but I did the second I bit into them. They're strangely thick in the dough area which causes a chewy quality that you don't really want in a dumpling. Also makes them thick and heavy versus light and crispy. The filling also left much to be desired. Wouldn't recommend. Chicken fried rice - my wife loved it and said it tasted like all ingredients were really fresh To add to all of this, their prices are awesome! We got the pints for $5 dollars each of our entrees and it was plenty for a meal. They were also really quick, I ordered at the place and waited and I couldn't have been there more than ten minutes. If you're looking for actually fresh, cheap, and tasty Chinese food - give this place a try! read more

He was actually calling to see if I would pick the order up. After some arguing I finally got my food. It only took an hour and 20 minutes!! All I can say is that this place is WAY better than any Chinese restaurant we have in our town back in Southern California! We found this place when we came for a recent visit and were waiting to see a holiday light show up the street. Thought we would split the pork lo mien combo (came with lo mien, pork fried rice, and an egg roll) before the show started. Not only is the food super tasty and authentic it is NOT greasy in the slightest. That's a big problem where we live, the Chinese food is usually a bit greasy and later you will have an upset stomach. Yum May is delicious, though, and the food was hot, well-seasoned, and tasty! Definitely not greasy at all. The portion size was more than generous and we could have fed a third person with what they gave us. Even the egg roll was huge! One thing I need to mention about the egg roll was that they cooked it perfectly, it was not overly fried and too hard or crunchy. The won ton skin had just the right amount of crunchiness and was easy to eat and enjoy...it was stuffed full of delicious tiny rice noodles and vegetable, really really tasty. Price-wise, they are more than fair for what you receive. As we waited for our order, we saw many people coming and going, all taking away large take-out orders of delicious Chinese food. They do a brisk business, at least on a Friday evening as we witnessed. The store itself is tiny with just one or two tables inside to eat at (if you choose) but I would say that it is meant to be a take-out place. They pack your food well for travel and ours stayed nice and hot till we ate it at home. One other dish we tried here was the honey chicken combo (same thing, you get an egg roll and rice) and we were not disappointed! Really yummy chicken tenders, minimal breading on the chicken, and cooked perfectly. The pork fried rice is full of generous chunks of pork (not FAT) and tasted great. Again, the temperature was great, this dish made it all the way home to Smithtown and stayed VERY warm, we didn't even need to warm it in the microwave before eating it. Thank you Yum May Chinese food, we hope to visit you again someday. Since we visit here at least once a year that will definitely happen.
