First the bad - Really lackluster food without a single standout item amongst our table of 8. For the price, they really need to step up their game. 3 stars at best for the food. The worse - a manager/host walking by and lurking at the table to signal to our group that it was time to go. Upon being asked what he was doing, he stated in a rather pompous tone he had another reservation awaiting our table. We were in the process of finishing our desserts and it wasn't as if we were just sitting there wasting time. If your pacing is screwed up, either fix your kitchen or make your reservations longer. Every person we saw needed their cell phone light to order because it was too dark to read the menu. Unfortunately, it is also too dark to see the food. I've been going to the Wild Fig for so many years that it's earned the nickname "Figlets" amongst my family members. My family consists of many picky eaters -- my brother and sister crave meat, my dad is a pescatarian, and me and my mom are vegetarians. We all find something to love at Wild Fig. I'd recommend starting off with the flavors of the sun -- the hummus and baba ganoush are home made and not to be missed. The flavors is served with piping hot pita bread (and equally hot toast, if you request it), further amplifying the experience. Their kale salad makes for a crunchy, flavorful appetizer. My family has also enjoyed the french onion soup, muscles and tuna tartar. For main courses, my sister swears by their chicken, which always comes with delicious veggies. My dad loves their signature fish in the bag -- fish (type is dependent on the day) that is cooked in a parchment bag to maximize flavors. My brother loves how juicy the lamb is. The service is always excellent. Andy has been our server too many times to count, and he always remembers our family and goes above and beyond to make our meal special. Let me begin by saying that the food at this establishment is very good. It's obvious the ingredients are high quality and a good amount of thought is put into the menu. That said...... What should be an exceptional dining experience was greatly diminished by the lack of care given by he staff. Perhaps it was that we didn't look like we blead $100 bills, we were in town as part of Ride The Rockies so our fine duds were at home after all, but my wife and I agrees the staff was over-the-top snooty. It's a rare occurrence that you find such a cozy and intimate setting in Aspen. The prices are moderate for Aspen, but the food excels in this town full of amazing restaurants. Keith steered us towards the butcher's block to start and the cavateli and the lamb chops for entrees. The meat was so juicy and succulent, but, again, enough about Keith. I had a taste of the chef's soup (made with some combination of chorizo/mussels/white wine) and we all shared a family style butcher board assortment of meats & cheeses. After my french onion soup, I seriously considered moving to Aspen... The grilled fish of the night was Trout, and feeling adventurous, I went through it bones and all, loving every bit. It was simple and perfectly seasoned with a half lemon wrapped in cheesecloth (I love that...) For dessert, the beignets & flourless chocolate cake sealed the deal... My wife and I ate here one night on our honeymoon. We can honestly say that not a single bite of food was anything less than very tasty. We started with the truffle parmesan frites, which we highly recommend. We try truffle frites anywhere we see them, and these are the 2nd best we've had, beating out a much more expensive restaurant and coming in 2nd only to the arguably finest restaurant in Seattle. These frites were unique because they were a rustic cut rather than the typical truffle frites, which are usually shoestring or at least pristine. We liked there was a little skin left on these, and they were extremely crunchy. I had the Moroccan chicken over asparagus and heirloom carrots. The flavor profile was very tasty and not at all cloying or overpowering. Very balanced. My wife had the Taste of the Sun platter with crudites. Everything was good, though some of the items may have needed a bit of salt to taste. We finished with the beignets with creme anglaise, which were perfectly executed and very tasty. There were only a few things keeping this from five stars. For one, the table olive oil tasted like it came from a supermarket bottle. If it was a house blend, I'd be shocked. This was pretty minor though. Two, the price of the beignets was fairly outrageous -- $12 for 6 and a 4oz (tops) cup of creme anglaise. This had to be the most highly marked up item on the entire menu. They were amazing, but it's pretty clear they are making an absolute killing on that item. Three, when the place started to get busy, the staff started to get a bit overwhelmed. It took them quite awhile to clear our entrees and bring us a dessert menu. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and I noticed that they would often congregate near the front and watch the patio area more closely than the interior. The main server was very friendly and knowledgeable, but he was serving triple duty as our waiter, the bartender, and the manager. Finally, the staff was overheard gossiping/complaining about guests. My wife heard the staff in the back making fun of one of the customer's hair. We also saw the entire front end staff huddle up once or twice to complain about a table on the patio. Part of this was due to the fact that the staff really had no back room to go to, but they really should be conscious of the fact that they are within earshot of the guests. But don't let these fairly minor issues keep you from eating at this fine restaurant. Their food is really great. Honestly, we'd probably have given them 5 stars despite the olive oil and the price of the beignets if it hadn't been for the staff issues. read more

Fantastic food in a small restaurant with great atmosphere. My husband and I split the fig salad, mussels, & scallops - all three were fantastic. Medium size salad was lightly dressed, which let the fresh flavors shine through. The mussels were prepared in a coconut curry, which was unique & delicious! The beautiful bar which is adjacent to and part of the dining room has hard boiled eggs on the bar top and is a fun and romantic alternative to dining at a table in this restaurant. I have no idea why this isn't everyone's favorite Aspen restaurant. It's mine for sure. OK, sometimes it's crowded. Maybe sometimes the service is four stars. But, for me the food is five stars everytime I've eaten here. We live four hours away and my wife doesn't even have to ask me where I want to celebrate my birthday. She knows what my choice would be. Wild Fig often has a risotto special, and when they do that's automatic for me. Best risotto I have ever had. Some of the best steaks and seafood I have ever had. Fabulous salads. Nice wine menu. Aspen is a very walkable town. Just minutes from our hotel sits this cozy yet bustling eatery. You must have reservation; the place was packed. We were seating in an outside small table. The folding chairs are a bit flimsy; I wondered if it would hold my weight. Service was professional, not super friendly. I ordered the French onion soup-it was not bad, a bit salty. I also had the endive and pear salad-very fresh and well dressed with a delicious vinaigrette. Then, after a longer than expected delay, my main course of mussels in Thai curry-very large, meaty mussels, light yellow curry with hint of basil, served with slices of toasted bread. I think Jasmine rice would've been a better side. The atmosphere was noisy and lively. Bring a jacket if seated outside; they don't have heat lamps for the occasional chill. read more

Stocked with small batch and high end brands, their wait staff offer good service and an easy atmosphere. Wines are realistically priced and well chosen and their dinner menu has variations of salads, soups, pastas and meats. The Lamb Shank for me, took it. And yes, its fantastic paired with one of their California Cabernets, with nice by the glass options in various varietals. Pricey like everything else in Aspen but extra care is taken with the food so you get your money's worth. Unusually seasoned salads and appetizer plates. For dinner I had the chicken panino which was mediocre but came with a better-than-okay side salad. Get tap water instead of bottled-- you're in the mountains, it's going to taste fine. And it'll save you $12. The cheesecake is divine, I wish I could figure out what they did...maybe used an extra sharp cheese. Tiramisu was light and fluffy. I'm convinced that the entire wait staff was made up of male super models. The ambiance is formal but no one's going to refuse your money in Aspen because you're wearing jeans. Highlights were the steak tartare and the Kobe flat iron steak. The Moroccan chicken was moist but the sauce is a little salty and not as complex as I'd hoped for a dish that could have so many interesting spices. In recent meals here, tried the fish in a bag (en pappilot), the seafood sampler, rack of lamb, moules frites...nothing spectacular but nothing offensive. The bread is very nice. Have not tried any desserts but other diners seemed to enjoy the full range. Next I want to try the lamb kebab that other Yelpers seem to enjoy so much. TIP: Skip the patio. Finally cornered her at 2.0+ hours to get the check. Don't get me wrong, love a leisurely dining experience! But would love to be offered coffee, dessert, a cheese course or port. This was like watching an accident that seemed as if it was unfolding in slow-motion. The unraveling of a potentially great restaurant. I would give this restaurant a 3.5. I rounded up. I probably won't go back because it is way too small and uncomfortable. However our service was good. We had Marcel taking care of us. Our meals overall were very good. They were nice about making changes to their menu for us. The pork chop was delicious.
