We were seated immediately which should have been a hint when there was 12 of us on a Friday. Service was stupendously slow and the fish and chips were pulled out of the fryer about 5 min too soon .The waitress kept giving the customers the "run down" on what she was doing, if she would have just shut her yap and did her job she would not have had to do that. 18% gratuity was added to our tab because our table had 6 people at it (she counted a 1 year old as a person, Disneyland doesn't even do that) The IGA deli would have a been just as good. We ate here the Friday prior to Memorial Day weekend. We were seated right away, service was very friendly and fast. Super view of the bay. We each ordered a drink and clam chowder along with calamari and the crab dip. Everything was very tasty, but the chowder was a bit bland and the drinks were a little pricey. YUM!! My only downside, if I can even call it that, is that its chilly by the windows in the winter. Here's the thing... its winter. It's glass. It's 34 degrees outside. Come on guys! So we bundled up in sweaters and chose window seats anyways, because wow, that view!! So, onto the good, and there was a lot of it. Our service was prompt and friendly. We ordered some beers for us, sodas for the kids, and they arrived quick as a snap. So did condiments, and our orders were taken right away. We came in at around 5pm on a Saturday, but its 5 days before Christmas- so the crowds obviously aren't huge. We were alone in the dining room for a bit but it began to fill up as we left. It's open to families until 9pm, so while it is a pub- it was perfectly fine for our family! We ordered two Pub Burgers, Fish and Chips, and a bowl of Clam Chowder. The food was amazing. The clam chowder was so fresh, and had a creamy delicious base. The pub burgers were huge- my husband is a BIG eater, I mean that- and he couldn't finish his whole burger or even half his fries. My son made a go at his pub burger as well but came up with the same results. Perhaps they are larger than they were in previous reviews, but really, the portions were more than generous. My 4 piece cod fish and chips was split between my daughter and I, along with the chowder, and it was more than we could finish. I can't imagine why anyone would be upset by the portion sizes, they were more than sufficient. The batter on the fish and chips was fantastic! Light, fresh, and as a previous reviewer said, not too salty. The tartar sauce maybe could use more flavor, but I'm more of a lemon and vinegar girl myself, so I didn't dip into it much. We ended our night with a few rounds of pinball out front, bring some quarters! There is a pool table and a juke box as well. If we were visiting without our kids we would stop back in later for a drink at the bar. It has a rustic wood top and looked fully stocked. We will be back to the White Horse for sure! The White Horse Pub has an incredible view of the water. The food is tasty but none of this compared to the outstanding waitress who served my companion and I. Sadly I did not ask her name but she charmed us both with her smile. A definite gem of the island so I highly recommend stopping in. read more

Great view, great burger, awesome french fries. This is a solid food joint, mostly bar food until after 4pm I think when they serve the full menu. I cant speak for the other dishes, but the burgers are on point, fresh, not from frozen, hand pressed patties. The fries are so good you don't need ketchup. I mean these fries are some of the best I have had. The service was fine, but we were there on a monday afternoon in the fall off season. This place was just our speed when we arrived on the island late and needed a low key bite to eat. I was, however, completely floored by the bill. The food is ok, but nothing special and it is essentially a dive bar with a menu. A nice view of the bay, but still, priced as if we were eating at a much higher end restaurant. Good heavens this place is amazing! The space is charming and personalized with a awesome bar top being hand crafted by one of the owners! There were 4 of us and each one of us was thrilled with the truly fresh and nummy food! We were even stealling off each others plates while protecting our own. The cocktails were perfectly created and the bartender was adorable and personable! We didn't have a great experience here. The view is amazing, but that's about all. They wouldn't push two tables together to set our party of 4 adults and 2 kids, even though they had a lot of empty tables. We ended up having to split our party between two tables. The food was only mediocre. My husband had to send his Guinness stew back because he couldn't find a single piece of meat in it. Go for the view, but not much else, unfortunately. read more

"I think this was the best Rueben sandwich I've ever had," said my husband after he polished it off. When I asked him what made it so great, he said it was the real corned beef. It's just ok. We were seated quickly and served right away. The view was beautiful. We got fish and chips - the fish was alright but the fries were very soggy. Their beer list was decent. The prices were a bit high for what you get. I recommend the Lower Tavern over here as the prices are lower, the food is amazing and the beer list is better. read more

Our drinks were fine. When it came time to pay the bill, we were verbally told one price...but when we produced a debit card to pay, the printed slip was a higher price (~30% higher). The discrepancy was explained away with some hemming and hawing. I get island pricing and expect to pay a premium in such a setting. The White Horse Pub made it a bit too much of a game. My motorcycle group made the mistake of eating here. The food was just average and overpriced. The waitress insisted on one bill for the entire table. The bill was not itemized, so we had to spend time totaling the amount each of us ordered. Our total did not match the restaurant total. We spent way too much time and money dealing with this insane method of billing a large group. I do not recommend this restaurant for a group. Beware of their drink prices! read more

We loved it! A few of my friends had come up to visit Orcas last summer and remembered this place being good, so we went there again this past October. The waitress immediately came over and greeted us, and gave a gorgeous window seat with a view of the entire bay! We ordered the calamari and the clam chowder to start, the calamari was served on an arugula bed with a wonderful lemon-y dressing, and the clam chowder was rich and delicious. A few of us got these huge burgers with super good fries, the waitress said they cut them fresh every day and they tasted like it, and we also got Shepard's pie, fish and chips, and the guinness chicken sandwich, which were all really good. The sandwich was sweet tasting and flavorful, and the fish and chips were light and tasted really good with vinegar! Overall the service was quick, the beer was good, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. It seemed like a lot of locals were hanging around the place, the bartender was very talkative and laughing a lot with everyone around the bar. The juke box by the pool table was popular, someone put on Queen and there was a really loud bit so my friend went up to ask the bartender to turn it down and they did right away. Everyone was nice and the food was sooo good and rich, I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Orcas, and plan to go there again next summer when I visit! read more

We thought this place was going to be a winner. NOT!!! Atmosphere: very cold. Could not take our coats off the entire time. Service: Lousy. Lousy. Lousy. Disorganized to say the least! Even the owner was slow, dismissive, and forgetful. Had to go to the bar several times to get what I needed, like a glass of wine, catsup, ect. Food: VERY SMALL MENU. Food was okay, not great. My sandwich was dry. no side sauce for a ruben, and no sauerkraut, just meat and a little 1000 Isle ...ate half of it. My guest had the Banger and Mashed Potatoes. The waitress claimed it was a HUGE meal when we ordered it, thinking we may need to share... it was not the case. It was a normal serving with a little brown gravy splashed on the plate. $$$. Pretty fair price for what little they are offering... However no veggie or salad. Salad is extra. Had to go to the bar to get our bill... This place has been open for about one week. I will try it again in a month or so. I sure hope they improve and acquire some better wait staff, or at least train them, and a kitchen person that knows what to put on a plate! read more

Menu looked good. Waitress (apparently the only one and just finished "a rush") was a bit hurried. Took forever to get drinks (2 beers and 2 sodas). No silverware or napkins came until after our food, but other tables sat after us got their place-settings right away. Fish and chips (should be an easy staple to make) came in a basket (others I saw come on a plate) was soggy and small bites for the price. No refills ever offered on the sodas. We stopped in this pub after a day of kayaking with the Orcas. We had been in Seattle for wedding of our nephew. We had a wonderful day and were celebrating a successful Orca sighting. Our bartender was not particularly friendly, she complained several times about having to make our martinis. Our waitress was friendly. It was typical Irish menu most everyone enjoyed their food. We even had ice cream on our walk home. :) And would say that our experience that evening was good family fun. However, two days later we received a FB message telling us to call them. How they found us on FB, we have no idea??? We called them thinking someone in our party may have left something behind. To our dismay we were accused of stealing a picture off of the wall in the bathroom. They had various stories, which contradicted each other and was never told the same story twice... "about two girls in our group going into the bathroom and after which a wall hanging, of some sort, was gone." They said we rolled it up and put it up our sleeve. This completely baffled all of us. Our party consisted of 3 physicians and an attorney and 4 more professionals. This establishment is threatening to prosecute us and report us to the police if we do not return it. WE HAVE NO IDEA what they are taking about. Of course, we are considering liable and slander as an option against The White Horse Pub. What a horrible disappointment and unsettling situation to be unfairly made a part of. I'm sure when they find out what really happened to their property they are going to be extremely embarrassed and mortified about they way they treated our family, whom just spent over $350 in their establishment. Needless to say, we loved Orca Island but we will never be returning to the White Horse Pub and would recommend that anyone who chooses this establishment... enters at their own risk. Our family had a lunch at the White Horse Pub. We both Guinness chicken sandwich, soup, salad, and 3 kids meals. Every meal was great. It was typical pub food but very good quality and taste.
