The best food I had on Orcas! Our group went there twice. Lovely ambience and Service too.

During our visit to Orcas Island we ate at New Leaf Cafe 3 times. We visited Sunday to Monday, and unfortunately many places are not open on those two days. New Leaf Cafe is the nicest restaurant in town that was open those days. TLDR: Breakfast is better than dinner here. Dinner items: - Beet salad - excellent - Clam Pasta - it was good - Vegan Roaster Cauliflower with hummus and harissa sauce - cauliflower was a bit mushy for my taste. - Cod - it was ok, pricey for what it was - Shishito peppers - good - French onion soup - too salty - side of potatoes - delicious Breakfast: - smoked salmon bagel - so good. loved the house-made bagels and house smoked salmon and heirloom tomatoes. This is an elevated smoked salmon bagel. - Mushroom egg omelette - also incredibly delicious. The potatoes that came with it were also so delicious Highly recommend both breakfast entrees. If you had to choose, I would prioritize breakfast over dinner here. Breakfast is also more lovely to enjoy the view and the stained glass and art inside. Although breakfast at Brown Bear Bakery is also wonderful. Service was good for the most part. During one dinner, there was a very long wait between appetizer and our entrees. read more

I've been visiting Bainbridge for years. Oddly, I've never been enticed to come here. The pictures on line make it look boring and like more of a "hotel restaurant". LUCKILY! It's Sunday and not much is open for a nice brunch, so I decided to try it. I had to wait a bit as they were short staffed (island life) and had quite the line. I was finally seated by Holly. Holly was receptionist / my waitress. First? She was AWESOME! What a gem they have. I hope they take care of her so she's inclined to stay there. I perused the menu and suddenly, bottom right corner, something unique caught my eye. A coconut curry noodle dish with shrimp. Holly explained to me that their chef had spent extensive to in Korea? Vietnam? I'm so sorry that detail escaped me. Just know, it's the BEST DISH I've had since I've been on Orcas. Overall, such a wonderful experience. I'll definitely be back next time I'm here. We had dinner at New Leaf Cafe, we made the reservation a couple days earlier. The views are amazing, we got to enjoy the view while waiting for our table. We got Wild Mushroom strudel to start, then got Pasta alle Vongole, and Lamb risotto. The Wild Mushroom strudel was good, loved the mushroom filling. The Pasta alle Vongole and Lamb risotto were both good. We finished with Chocolate Hazelnut cheesecake, we loved it. It was a great end to our meal. read more

Uneven food. Sometimes the best breakfast on the planet, sometimes not. I once had the best omelette of my life there; the other day it was rubber. THe fried breakfast potatoes are sometimes to die for, now they are in large pieces and not as delicious as they were before. Barfood is really good, in my experience. read more

Quaint inn with sweeping views of bay. Loved the vegan brunch offering of a lentil tofu scramble. I love having a savory vegan breakfast option thats not too carb heavy. Loved just staring out the stained glass windows at the bay. We returned for dinner another night. The mushroom pastry and beet plate were delicious. The romaneso was beautifully plated but for $30 a plate, I had hoped for some more inspired seasoning and combination. My party just sort of giggled as I ate half a head of roasted broccoli. I saw this place as one to visit on Orcas! We came here for breakfast. Their menu had a good variety! The ambience of the restaurant was so cute! Really felt like I was in Nantucket, MA or really a place with a white interior overlooking the water. It was really that cute and it's nestled in with the Outlook Inn. I ordered the wild mushroom Benedict with a seasonal fruit side with honey Greek yogurt. The mushrooms were tasty and the hollandaise sauce with truffle oil was exquisite! Very tasty! My buddy got the duck leg confit with waffles! Duck was good and what a combination! We both got fruit plates and it was very refreshing to cleanse the palette with and finish off the meal! We came here for brunch while staying on the island. It's inside one of the hotels. It's a very cute space. We went on a Friday morning and were seated right away. We had a nice view of the town and even the water from our seat. Everyone was super friendly and the service was great. We had coffee and it was always refilled and hot. The food was also delicious. I'd definitely recommend and hope to come back soon. read more

I'm extremely bummed to leave such a low score. My wife and I had high hopes this would be the highlight of our time on the island (food wise). The high points: The views! The location is wonderful. Water views, downtown, so it's easy to get around. Parking was easy and even though we were early for our reservation they sat us right away. The mids- when I made the reservation online I made a note about it being a very special birthday for my wife. I did not expect anything for free, but I anticipated they might at the minimum say something. Not one person ever mentioned it. The lows. The service, well intended, but under trained. I won't list everything but the prime example is once the food was dropped the server did not show up again until we were almost done. The food was sub par. We had Miso glazed cod and French onion soup. We weren't happy with either. By the looks of reviews, our experience was not normal. We hope it is just due to going before the tourist season starts. Reservations are advised, when they are taking them as they are a very busy brunch place and even busier, I imagine, at night. It is difficult to find anything that I can eat on any menu, as I cannot have spice nor many allergens. I have been happy - repeatedly - with a duck leg and poached eggs - delicious! It is now my standard. It is expensive; however, everyone has raised prices this year. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere is okay with a glassed area packed in inclement weather. When it is nice an outdoor section is open. That unfortunately gets the exhaust of the busiest street in town into one's food. That, too, is pretty standard for eateries nowadays. read more

We waited more than 1 hour to receive our food. When we finally asked politely if the food was almost ready with a staff member, they said they'd check and never returned to give us an answer. 10 minutes later, our waitress brought our food. We asked if we could get another round of complimentary bread (for our woes basically) but she said we'd have to make an order. We were disappointed the restaurant didn't take responsibility for either forgetting about our order or not prioritizing us and not communicating with us. If they had just kept us in the loop and notified us about food updates (really any form of speech or communication) I think we wouldn't have felt so wronged. By the time we got our food a second round of diners were eating. We had seniors with us who were very patient but really could have benefited from knowing when they could expect their meal. We would have eaten our snacks in the car while we waited. We were very disappointed in the service. Food was good but not worth going back. read more

This restaurant is inside Outlook Inn in Eastsound (Orcas Island, WA). It's on the high end side, but the ambiance is relaxed. Their service is friendly and attentive. My girlfriend and I both ordered the branzino, and we shared the pork belly and arugula salad. The branzino tasted very delicious especially the sauce it was served with. It was an entire fish with the head and everything. Since I grew up in Japan eating fish with heads all the time, it didn't bother me but you're warned. Also, there's a lot of bones you have to eat around. I really enjoyed the dressing on the arugula salad. The serving portion of the pork belly (appetizer) was very small: 2 small slices, but it was delicious. If you want fancy dinner on Orcas Island, I think this is the place. Our family of six went here during our latest stay on the island, and while the food was good, I don't know that it lived up to expectations. It was difficult to make the reservation as messages left on their voicemail went un-returned. I finally had to call the hotel, then get re-directed to the restaurant to finally get an answer as to whether or not they could accommodate us. On the day of our reservation, service was good, but we were tucked in a corner next to the bathrooms which was somewhat uncomfortable. The food was good, but the portions were on the smaller side. Overall I'd say it was an okay spot with a nice view, but nothing about the experience made us want to go back. read more

Dinner - The restaurant had huge windows that overlook the bay which made dinner great for people watching and seeing the sunset. The host staff was very kind and friendly, even when we entered in the back door to the bar area the hostess walked us to the hostess stand. We made a reservation for right when they opened and basically had the whole place to ourselves. The dining area was fairly quiet. We did sit in the window area near the bar which was a little noisy during happy hour. We had a rotating hazy IPA that started great, but left an unpleasant taste in my mouth the longer I sipped on it. My wife's drink, a Prickly Persona with a shot of gun, was excellent though! The truffle fries were my favorite of the two appetizers, the other being grilled shrimp cocktail. The fries were seasoned perfectly and came in a decent portion! The grilled shrimp was okay, the blackberry cocktail sauce it came with though was pretty one dimensional. The Pasta Ragu and grilled salmon were good and we would both get again. What a gem! This place was cute and staff was great. The food was absolutely delicious. The BLTA was fantastic on great bread. So tasty. The potatoes were amazing. They were so crispy and soft on the inside. My sister got the crab Benedict and said it was possibly the best Benedict she's ever had. The crab was poached in butter and just so amazing. We love this place. The food is phenomenal and the staff is just the absolute best. And the building is an island treasure.

We ate here last October, on patio, and had wonderful food. Tonight however, had to get carryout, had truffle fries with aioli which was very runny, liquid, sub par. Also scallops were tasty, but only 3 of them on a very liquidy pea puree, nothing like our fall experience. I returned the fries with aioli, and was happy to get it replaced. For the price, I would not eat here again. read more

With the views of the waterfront, and cute decor inside, this is a beautiful spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. In fact, we were happy it was open because many restaurants or eateries on Orcas Island are not open seven days a week. New Leaf seems to be one of the only restaurants that is open the majority of the time. which is lucky because the food is also really fresh and delicious. We had breakfast and dinner here two separate days while visiting the island, both times it was delish! Staff is super friendly And accommodating! Next time we're on the island will definitely stop by again. They are attached to The Outlook Hotel which looks Idealic as well! read more

Food - 4 Service - 2 Value - 2 While the food here was above average, the service was just poor and for a place charging what they do...it was just unacceptable really. We had a reservation and arrived about 5 minutes early as well. There was nobody to greet us, and eventually after about 10 minutes of waiting, we were finally seated. We noticed as we walked by there were empty tables waiting to be bussed with a view, but the table they walked us to was in the bar area -- which we didn't mind really...but it still felt odd they couldn't clear a table with a view given we were the last seating of the day. We then waited out our table as 5 different waitstaff walked back and forth with little urgency but nobody stopped by to welcome us or anything. After about 10 minutes of waiting we flagged down a server and told him we'd be leaving if someone didn't stop by our table "soon". After another few minutes, just as we were about to get us to leave...the bartender who had been tending the bar by just talking with a couple of regulars there for the past 10 minutes finally decided to stop by our table to take our order. Our drinks and food took a while to arrive as well -- which again felt odd since most of the tables were empty by then...and nobody stopped by to refill our water or ask how our meal was. Truly amazing! This is fresh, scratch kitchen cooking. Food that tastes homemade and exquisitely from a top restaurant at the same time. I've visited New leaf twice, and ordered both eggs Benedict dishes. Both are delectable. The tarragon aioli on the kale Benedict is a great touch. We came here around 12:30pm, right before it closes at 1pm. For brunch, they said they could make all items gluten free! So we ordered the duck leg confit waffle and wild mushroom benedict. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The waffle had a great texture, and the duck was super crispy. The mushrooms for the benedict had a great flavor profile, and the potatoes were crunchy and fluffy. Everything tasted so good and I wish I could order the whole menu. We ordered the crab cakes Benedict and they were absolutely amazing. It comes with potatoes that are out of this world delicious. They are crispy but not greasy. The salad was also refreshing. To be clear, the food was great. Everyone loves their dish. They accommodated my allergies (gluten and dairy) extremely well. So the docked stars are not in regard to food or quality of it. The service was so so poor. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait when we got there; there were MANY open seats outside. We asked if we could sit out there as we had a baby in a stroller and would be much more ideal as the inside layout is a bit crowded and loud. The man (manager maybe?) was not too friendly and told us they were only seating people with dogs outside because opening the door to the outside seating caused a wind gust?? So we waited. And waited. And waited. 45 minutes came and went. So my mom went to check about it and lo and behold, they had the table ready but had yet to let us know that. As we passed by on the sidewalk, we saw multiple parties sitting outside WITHOUT a dog. We saw the same man sit a dog-less couple outside while we were seated. So it seemed he just had some random animosity towards us and refused to accommodate us and our baby. Boo. In addition to that, our waitress was mixed. She had come when we sat down to do water and coffee, then disappeared for a good while only to return and all she said was "have you decided?" We didn't even know she was our waitress, much less had she said anything else to us. But she was nice enough I suppose and very knowledgeable of the menu--she ensured my food was made gluten and dairy free so big appreciation for that. Then again she also didn't come back to refill our water or coffee until asked. So overall, good food but service could use some major improvement. read more

The view over the bay was beautiful, and the atmosphere relaxing. For our first night on Orcas Island we had a reservation for this place and were seated pretty quickly. For the table we ordered the Truffle Fries ($10), French Onion Soup ($14), Harissa Spiced Clams ($26), Confit Pork Shank Sliders ($19), Graze Board ($26), and the Marinated Olives and Spiced Marcona Almonds ($14), but I only tried out the fries, slider, graze board, olives, and almonds. Everything that we got tasted great. There's so much flavor and the graze board had more than just meats and cheeses. The pork in the sliders were very tender and the salad that it came with was very refreshing, especially with the amount of breads that we got with our orders. Our server was super nice and was patient with us while we were trying to narrow down what to get because everything on the menu just looked so good. The dishes came out at a decent pace, of course with the graze board and small bites arriving sooner to the table than the others so we had something to nibble on throughout the meal. I just wish I had the stomach capacity to try more of the items on their menu. read more
