Local crowd laughing and hollering and having a great time. This is someplace I'd hang out at if I lived in this island. We ordered a few beers and dinner while listening to the trivia. The food was basic in flavor, and the service was slow, but they had a good small-town vibe and some decent beers on tap. We happened to catch the start of the football season this year here and appreciated that it seems to be a neighborhood spot. The food quality could have been better, not to mention how tiny the portion sizes were. Our server spoke to us about twice the entire time, once to order and again to ask if we were okay 40 minutes after taking our order, lol. It could have been due to how busy they were that day, or that's their style, I'm not sure. Well what can I say for this local dining location. Nice quant place, good atmosphere but they are far from fine dining. You would think for locals they would give a 15-20 percent discount to keep the local Population interested in coming here. I hadn't been in over a year bc I was visiting family. I can understand these prices if we are talking out of this world food or high end ingredients. But two sandwiches, a basket of onion rings and two cocktails and we paid $84 without tip. Immediately, a woman was extremely rude and told me dogs were only allowed on the outdoor patio unless they were a service animal. It was winter and the patio wasn't even open. I explained that my dog is a service animal and that I could grab his vest from my car. She threw her hand up dismissively and walked into the kitchen without another word. Food was great. We had our dog which meant we had to sit on the dog patio which is separate from the other patio. So we were alone in the parking lot basically which was a bummer. Probably should've just gotten take out but at least we could eat there. So much of the rest of Eastsound is closed to you if you brought your doggo on your adventure so we were grateful. Came by when I had some time to kill before the evening ferry and was psyched to see their selection of local beers! Ordered a K. Pod Kölsch from island hopping brewery and got some work done with their free wifi. Their food is generously portioned and comes out fast and hot! I love Reubens and theirs was on point. Ordered the Reuben with fries and was very satisfied. Would definitely recommend stopping by if you're looking for some casual pub food. Maybe challenge a local to pool? It's a dive bar with a good crowd, good servers, and grumpy cooks. We had a salad with grilled chicken that did no harm and a French dip that was an absolute crime against beef. Ideal spot in Eastsound for a beer and something to eat, as long as you're not a dog or under the age of 21 (neither are permitted to enter). The Lower Tavern is an handsome local bar loaded with TVs on the walls and plenty of comfy booths and tables as well as a few tables in an enclosed patio area outside. We ordered a couple of nice IPAs on tap and went with the fish 'n chips -- one order of cod, the other of halibut. Since the boat carrying the tavern's french fries hadn't yet come in, the waitress substituted onion rings. Wise choice. The cod was moist and tasty and much better than the halibut, which seemed compressed and dried out. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and good food overall. read more

Word on the street is this is the best burgers in town! I didn't have a burger, but I got the buffalo chicken sandwich on sourdough, it was really good! My husband got a burger and said it was seriously legit! Service was very friendly, it seems like a good old boys place, not very swanky, not very posh, but super friendly, and looks like a great place if you want to go play pool and have a couple beers and hang out. Was dying to watch the NBA playoff and was in Eastsound and I just knew that the lower Tavern would have it on a big screen! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had the Cline Zinfandel, and it was just so yummy! I didn't get a picture, but we also had the chicken strips with three different sauces to dip it in. I thought the chicken was good enough without the dip! They piled six large pieces on top of a mound of fries. This was such a great appetizer to share! My family wasn't too into the basketball game so they played pool while I watched the game.... worked out perfectly! Jack was our server, and he did a great job! We'd been here once before and thoroughly enjoyed it. Today they weren't on their game, though. Service was slow - the server was more interested in chatting with a group I think he knew. When my girlfriend's reuben came out, it had thousand island dressing on it, which she specifically asked them to leave out. I realize that's what makes it a Reuben, but she doesn't like it, so whatever. No one ever came back to refil drinks or ask how things were. 'The Lower' as we locals call it, is the kind of place you have to support. Affordable, excellent tavern food and beers. I've had almost every menu item. All burgers great. But the Southwest, Classic are best. Patty melt excellent. Buffalo chicken sandwich better than anything the now-bankrupt Hooters could ever have made. My new jam is the prawn basket, just excellent. Health tip: place your order without fries. Yes they are great too, but if you eat a whole burger or sandwich and all the fries, your stomach will file a complaint. The salads are not great, but the soups are. Trust me, nobody walks out of this place hungry - order anything with a soup or salad, and all will be well. Ambiance is above dive bar, below a modern brew pub. Beers rotate and I've not had a bad one. Service is fast compared to any other place on this island. Sorry. This one I give 3 stars. Mostly due to our server. Although it was fairly busy because of an NFL game, the lack of attention was off putting. She started out good but forgot us after our food was delivered . When she finally did check in for drink refills, she forgot to actually bring them to us. Which would have been fine had she apologized when she did remember. But she just brought them later and didn't say a word. Just plopped them on the table and walked away. The same attitude came back after we asked for our check. (Was it something we said??) Now, will we be back? Yes! The food was good. My cheeseburger was awesome! It was cooked to perfection (kudos to the chef) AND we got our food within 15 minutes. (See pics) It's a great place to chill with friends, play pool, or watch a game on one of the 7 screens. Ordered a burger and it was so-so. Asked for them to keep something off it and they ADDED extra of it. And they charged me. I didn't notice the charge till after I had left. I have eaten here before and felt there could be more attention to detail on the food. My experience is only with the food, not the drinks. It's a bar, so it probably does drinks fine, but it's not a "destination" for food or attention to detail. read more

Exhausted from a full day of hiking I was happy to have a low key spot to grab a drink and food to eat. Parking lot is right off of the road construction so be careful not to pickup any nails in your tires on the way out. Seated at the bar. Reasonably crowded for 8pm on a Saturday. Bar almost full. Most of the tables occupied. Drink: Guava Cider is AMAZING and two of them went down easily. I ordered 6 of the honey BBQ wings and really appreciate the cook's effort for my specialty order. Stopped in here when we arrived on the ferry. Parking is limited. Interior was rustic. Patio had no umbrellas. We chose to sit at the "bar". The bar only serves beer and wine (cider and seltzer too), but no hard alcohol. I ordered the calamari, which was hard to finish. It tasted like it was cooked in old oil. My husband had the black and blue burger, which was basically just a burger with a small side of bottle blue cheese dressing. We got the recommendation from the guy working at Island Hoppin' to come here to watch the Huskies game and it was exactly what we were looking for. Having had some good brews and snacks earlier in the afternoon it was nice to mosey on over here for dinner and the game. The place was completely full when we arrived and we were fortunate to get a table of a group that had just left and the table needed to be wiped down. The two servers looked were both super friendly and helpful and it was a great experience. I am always skeptical about ordering fish at places that are dives or offer billiards in the back, but the server highly recommended the special halibut on angel hair so I decided to give it a try. There were only two halibut left as shortly after ordering they wiped the menu with the specials listed. The clam strips were as expected, and the side salad didn't look like much, but had a good vinaigrette dressing alongside it. The halibut was everything I could have hoped for and more - fresh, not fishy, atop a perfectly prepared bed of angel hair pasta with a nice butter/cheese sauce that was just right to share between two people. Had I eaten the whole dish by myself it may have been too much for one sitting, but the dish was not oxersauced by any means. Looks can be deceiving - wouldn't have normally stopped here based off the exterior but the food was a great value. The tavern is 21+ only. The fish and chips were excellent and hit the spot. The exterior was crunchy and not too greasy while the fish itself definitely had a good flavor without it being overwhelming. The fries were crispy and well coated. The cole slaw didn't have much flavor and was a bit watery but I didn't mind. Where the great value truly comes into play was with the chicken tenders. The bowl was absolutely steaming when it arrived (free facial? Haha) so we knew they were fresh and it was almost overflowing. The staff was very accommodating which was nice considering we had just left a restaurant for having poor service. Went to Orcas Island with friends whose family owns a cabin. Spent a day and a half off the grid until Sunday when we wanted to watch the Seahawks game. We drove into town to stop at this dive bar. I was told the servers are nice and that they have a chicken Caesar pita that was good. Our server was very attentive and the wing appetizer and onion rings were delicious. The chicken Caesar pita was odd. The dressing was average and the chicken was good, but the salad part contained shredded carrots which was abnormal and not appealing. The messed up on our friends order and we were trying to tell the younger server to help us fix the issue and she told us basically to hurry up and tell her whose food she was holding. The answer was nobody's but my friend took the food anyways to get over the awkwardness of the junior server. Food good, overall service from oldest server great. This is one of the only places with vegan options at lunchtime during the weekend in Eastsound. We got a Veggie Burger (patty has dairy, but can swap with simply meatless patty) and a Simply Meatless Burger both with fries. The burgers were pretty average but the fries were nice and crispy and not overly salty! The staff is friendly but the service is pretty slow, so plan to spend some time here if you come.
