Came to Victoria as a stop for a cruise and i started looking for places to eat - what got me with this tapas bar is the name of their cocktails-all Depeche Mode songs and I'm a big DM fan! So we went! This place did not disappoint-from the ambiance to the drinks and food and service! If you are ever in Victoria this is a must try for their tapas. We ordered a dozen oysters, the gambas, ceviche and anchovy. Everything was amazeballs good!

Tapas. Cocktails. Lively. Great small plates. We had the shrimp and the potatoes with jamon and manchengo. Mmm. Manhattan is great. Try it. I think you'll enjoy it.

Beef carpaccio and bread

Delicious food, wonderful service and chill ambiance! I was curious to try out this place on vacation because they offer tapas and it was so good, we came here twice! Ordered: Beef carpaccio Spanish chorizo Patatas something Bodega board Spanish crème brûlée Piquillo pepper My favorite was the beef carpaccio, that's the main reason we came back. Everything else was also very good and flavorful tapas. They also have non-alcoholic cocktails, which is fun for non-drinkers! 100% recommend!

Tapas is the way to go!! It's like family style and allows you try so many dishes. My favorite dish (A MUST) is the beef carpaccio. The flavors and textures were complemented each other and perfect. Looks/cleanliness- The location wasn't too busy on a Sunday night around 7! The whole place was also very clean and the lights were dim. Definitely a cute place to have a meal!

Seafood pasta bowl and vegetarian cubanette sandwich at Bodega Tapa Bar, Victoria BC June 2024

Stopped here on a port of call for an Alaskan cruise. Last night of our cruise - and the best food of the week! Loved the outdoor table, friendly and helpful server, delicious new (to me) wine on her recommendation, and our meals. My friend had the seafood pasta and I had the vegetarian cubanette sandwich. I'm home now scouring the internet for anything like that recipe, it was so unique and delicious. Excellent, relaxing, beautiful spot to enjoy a quiet corner of downtown Victoria.

This was the best place we ate in Victoria. Tons to choose from on the menu, and while it's tapas, the portions are substantial. The beef carpaccio was incredible. So much layered flavors, and the meat was melt in your mouth thin. The cheese board had three different cheeses, figs, jam and bread. Cocktails were unique and well crafted. Quick and friendly service. This is a smaller restaurant, so I'd recommend a group smaller than 5, but you could always call ahead and see what they can accommodate you. Would be perfect for date night or a smaller group . I can't wait to go back!

Food, Service and Ambiance was perfect. We tried many of the small plates and still need to go back for more. This place is amazing and very friendly service and attentive staff. The drinks are wonderful, they know how to make a great Manhattan. If you had a choice between the other restaurants around or this place, this would be my choice. As someone that travels for work and mainly eats out this place is perfect.

Second time here! Never a disappointment! Food is outstanding. Comfortable little room. Friendly service. Sat in front of the chefs preparing the dishes this time which was awesome. Coming back on my next visit to Victoria for sure!

Highly recommend the pinto trio.

I came here for the octopus salad, but it was not in season. The cod and scallop ceviche in verde salsa was great. The chip on the side was good too. They have a lot of cocktails, Shaba Cabbara was delicious. Then I tried the Pinto trio... my favorite was the red pepper with white sardine. The chicken pete with pear and honey made me want to order a whole plate of chicken pete! They went well with a glass of Cava. The portion is a bit big for tapa. I regret I don't have enough room to try more dishes.

Atmosphere: 4/5 Wait staff: 3.5/5 Food: 4/5 This restaurant if you didn't know serves Tapas so if you're super hungry, you might run a pretty expensive bill :) We ordered the Chorizo dish and toasted baguette to start (2 separate dishes). They were only ok, the chorizo was good but a little annoyed that the toasted baguette didn't come with butter or a garlic spread. I think it was lightly coated with olive oil (?) I could be wrong. My fiancé ordered the Porchetta Sandwich - highly recommended! And I ordered the octopus salad which was very tasty, I liked how it came with baby potatoes so it was a little more filling then just having greens. The wait staff unfortunately wasn't wearing masks so that made us feel a bit anxious. Our waitress was lovely enough. She tried checking up on us and was very "laid back". They all just had a "cool demeanour" which isn't necessarily a bad thing but i had to get used to it haha. Overall, would recommend as a casual snack and drinks bar :)

The vibe in the restaurant was nice. Felt like we were teleported away for a few hours. Everyone was chatting away eating. It was an open space, but not hard to have a conversation. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. She made great recommendations on wine and food. We ended up taking advantage of their special shared tapas menu for two at $59.50 CAD. I ordered some wine by the glass to go with some of the dishes. We didn't have any preference in the order, so our waitress brought things out as we finished. The spread included bacon wrapped stuffed dates, chorizo puffs, salad, veggies, croquettas, patatas bravas, prawns, beef short ribs, and a chocolate mousse-like dessert. Everything was so tasty! It starts off so well with the bacon wrapped stuff dates and you think there will be a dip in taste at some point. I believe the only dish we didn't finish were the veggies, done ratatouille style, we were pretty full so we chose not to finish this one and make sure we could eat dessert. She did figure out I was american when I tried to give her my credit card. I always forget they bring those credit card devices to your table outside the US. I would definitely go back to try some of the other menu options.

We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!

Tonight we had gochujang Mac & cheese with chorizo, Thai mushroom risotto, boneless beef rib lettuce wraps, takoyaki, pan flashed spicy prawns, and wagyu beef gyozas. The service was excellent, and the place wasn't too loud considering it was a full house for dinner rush. The tables turned fairly quickly. We will be back again here next visit to the Island!

The fish dip was good, I would just serve it with wider chips so it's easier to pick up. Flavour was great. The charred romaine was something our wonderful server recommended which we wouldn't order had he not told us to and we were really happy we did! The sauce was so good on this dish! The mushroom dish was interesting and yummy. The tuna tataki was prob my favourite in terms of flavour - it was dilly with beautiful big chunks or tuna and fingerling potatoes.
