Wow. Amazing. We were on a romantic getaway to Victoria this summer and decided to stop by Bodega for lunch. We got there when it opened and the few people working that day just made the experience one to remember. Sat at the bar and had a few spectacular cocktails while sampling many meats and cheeses on their charcuterie board. Bread was perfect... ordered a refill. Great Spanish tapas spot! We loved the name as native New Yorkers. Started with the hibiscus soda which was tart and really well made. We got the Barcelona board and clams and sausage. The board had salami, coppa, and prosciutto and you could tell they were high quality meats. The clams and sausage was our favorite, the sauce it was cooked in was delicious especially with the Foccacia. The chickpeas were a nice touch as well. The portions were filling even when sharing them with someone else. Came to Victoria as a stop for a cruise and i started looking for places to eat - what got me with this tapas bar is the name of their cocktails-all Depeche Mode songs and I'm a big DM fan! So we went! This place did not disappoint-from the ambiance to the drinks and food and service! If you are ever in Victoria this is a must try for their tapas. Fantastic restaurant. We had the ceviche, carpaccio and baked squash dishes. All of them were delicious. I have never been one to get excited about squash, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was wonderful. Hints of cumin, and smoked paprika. I asked the staff how they prepared it and they were very accommodating in providing information. Staff was friendly and professional. We had a great time at Bodega. We came on a Monday night so we got a table right away (we could even charge our plugin hybrid right in front). The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is quite good. We had the best carpaccio I've had outside of Spain, a charcuterie board, and a stuffed piquillo pepper; but the star of the show was the humble tomato-pepper soup. WTH is in that deliciousness? When in Victoria, Bodega is a must! We walked in around lunch time, and since they weren't too busy, the hostess managed to get us a table right away, which was very appreciated. Bodega has cosy, fun, and warm vibes! Our server was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. We got some of their house wines to start. Since they adopted the small tapas plates, it's great for sharing. We ordered a bunch of food, and it was all high quality, tasty, and phenomenal. We got the patatas bravas, bay scallops, and cod fish ceviche, served with some potato chips, Gambas al Ajillo, and the grilled broccolini. The flavours of each dish were exquisite and well-executed. We spend a great winter evening at the patio, the heaters and cozy blankets provided were good enough to forget about the weather and enjoy an amazing gastronomic journey. As I'm a Sherry wine lover I couldn't resist to try a Manzanilla, Amontillado and a Palo cortado. They cleverly paired with olives, almonds and manchego cheese. They have a great selection of dry to sweet ones. The time passed quick as we started ordering tapas. Staring with a Barcelona board, with local and international meats. Stopped here on a port of call for an Alaskan cruise. Last night of our cruise - and the best food of the week! Loved the outdoor table, friendly and helpful server, delicious new (to me) wine on her recommendation, and our meals. My friend had the seafood pasta and I had the vegetarian cubanette sandwich. This was the best place we ate in Victoria. Tons to choose from on the menu, and while it's tapas, the portions are substantial. The beef carpaccio was incredible. So much layered flavors, and the meat was melt in your mouth thin. The cheese board had three different cheeses, figs, jam and bread. Cocktails were unique and well crafted. Quick and friendly service. This is a smaller restaurant, so I'd recommend a group smaller than 5, but you could always call ahead and see what they can accommodate you. Atmosphere: 4/5 Wait staff: 3.5/5 Food: 4/5 This restaurant if you didn't know serves Tapas so if you're super hungry, you might run a pretty expensive bill :) We ordered the Chorizo dish and toasted baguette to start (2 separate dishes). They were only ok, the chorizo was good but a little annoyed that the toasted baguette didn't come with butter or a garlic spread. I think it was lightly coated with olive oil (?) I could be wrong. My fiancé ordered the Porchetta Sandwich - highly recommended! And I ordered the octopus salad which was very tasty, I liked how it came with baby potatoes so it was a little more filling then just having greens. The wait staff unfortunately wasn't wearing masks so that made us feel a bit anxious. Our waitress was lovely enough. She tried checking up on us and was very "laid back". We love Bodega, we always make a point of stopping here at least once on our trips to Victoria. It's an intimate, cozy, relaxed and authentic Spanish tapas bar with excellent bites and inventive cocktails. This time, we had come for a drink while crossing fingers and toes that a table would become available at Hank's for dinner. As always, Bodega staff are welcoming and always happy to talk about anything on the menu or even give tips and insights on what to see and do on the Island. If you're interested in the venue's food/drink, the best spot is at the bar so you can see them in action and ask questions - they always seem pleased to talk about their craft. I ordered the Pretzel Logic (Siete Misterios mezcal, Beaufort white vermouth, spicy jalapeño chamomile syrup, lime, grapefruit bitters, all with a cinnamon/sugar rim) cocktail to start, while my husband ordered the Midnite Cruiser (Maker's Mark bourbon, Bandarra red vermouth, cola balsamic syrup on the rocks). Both drinks were excellent, and my husband even liked the Pretzel Logic which was surprising as he usually shuns anything with jalapeño or grapefruit and this had both. Our server was making an interesting drink for the fellow seated next to us, and upon inquiring about it she offered to make one for my husband. We were only planning to stay for one drink, but we're on vacation so why not. We stayed for another round of drinks (forgot to snap a pic) and ended up chatting a while longer with both the server and the other fellow which was fun - both are big into the food/drink scene and had tons of insights. Bad food, great service and very nice ambiance. We ordered gambas al ajillo, probably the worst I ever had, not real garlic and sauce made with butter instead od olive oil. The Tortilla espanola is hard to describe the mess, look like anything but tortilla espanola. The bread was very good but came with focaccia too... no needs for that in a spanish restaurant. Probably the piquillo pepper was the best but the portion was very small and a lot of lettuce. If you are looking for authentic spanish food stay away from Bodega. read more

Bodega is a Spanish tapas style restaurant in the downtown Victoria area. We walked over from our hotel, although there is street parking available. To start we ordered cocktails. I forgot the name of the drink that I ordered, but it had a gin base with egg whites and berries, with orange peel. I really enjoyed the drink as it wasn't too sweet and the egg white made it a bit creamy. The drink my fiancé ordered was not really to his liking and it was quite watered down from the ice. We ordered several tapas (didn't get pictures of everything). The Spanish chorizo arrived first, and tasted like regular sausage you could buy from a grocery store. The mushrooms and lentils next - mushrooms held a good amount of umami flavor but the lentils were a bit overdone and tasteless in my opinion. The gambas were the best dish with a surprising kick from the savory sauce. The focaccia came with it and it was nice to soak it in the sauce. We also ordered the choripan (pretty much a normal cold cut sandwich but bread was nice as crispy). Patatas bravas came last which was weird because usually that's the first dish out when it comes to tapas. That was the most off putting because the aioli was a bit sour tasting and the potatoes weren't very crispy. I'm probably biased because I've had some very good tapas, but I'd say that this restaurant is just ok if you're looking for something different from typical Victorian fare. read more

What a place. A favorite for locals and visitors alike. They make you welcome from the moment you walk in. Food and drink are delicious and inventive. Try to stay away during peak hours as you'll have a long wait- but they can text you when the table is ready. Tinned fish is an excellent surprise with crusty bread in abundance. Tip your server well cause they are excellent. Remember, when its full of locals it's going to be the place you'll also want to frequent. Says a lot about both the menu and the management. read more

Went to the bar and it took the bar tender 10 minutes to bring me a glass of water and a menu. I came with a party of 6 and we combined one small table for two with another table for four. We were then reprimanded and were told "it causes a hazard to servers" and then we were told it actually just "makes it difficult for servers to place the food on the table". I would like to make it clear that we were in the absolute corner next to the window - our seating arrangement could never cause a hazard to anyone - it is probably the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. The hard but I couldn't swallow was not the fact that we were told we couldn't combine the tables but in the absolute condescending way we were told it, all while 2 of our group had to shimmy to the other side of the room like children with dunce caps on. When our waitress arrived she either noticed our vibe or was told about the situation and said "if it'll make you guys happy, you can join the tables".... I guess it really wasn't that much of a problem then? To add insult to injury, the food took forever & was terrible. I never like to leave bad reviews but this one was well deserved. read more

We arrived at Bodega 5 minutes before the end of Happy Hour. Our hostess was super and reminded us of our timing and quickly took our drink order. Their house rose cava is excellent, highly recommended. Throughout the evening we ordered a selection of tapas. All were enjoyable, especially the Lentiles & Mushrooms, and the Roasted Pepper Soup. For tapas frìas, Boquerones, white anchovies and cherry tomatoes in chili oil with fresh baguette was an unctuous delight and for tapas calientes, stewed mushrooms, kale and lentils in a sherry vinaigrette and slices of Spanish chorizo, served with fresh house made focaccia.
