We ate here while coming through on a cruise. Seven of us found quick seating. Make sure you ask for outside versus indoor as the inside was a bit stuffy. Food was good. I enjoyed my cod and chips. The Irish Times is such a fantastic find in a lovely part of town. We spent a great evening sitting out on the sidewalk, but the interior is just as impressive--a beautiful and historic building dating back to 1894 with very lively music playing inside. I was honestly shocked by how good the food was. I had initially assumed it might be a spot primarily for tourists, but a dear friend of mine who is a local mentioned that people in Victoria actually love coming here. She even noted that some friends from her children's school were there just the night before for an alumni weekend. The menu absolutely exceeded my expectations. I was blown away by the fish and chips; the fish was moist with a light batter and wasn't oily at all. The burgers, Irish stew, and shepherd's pie were all delectable as well. The real standout, however, was the sockeye salmon in a pesto preserved lemon broth--it was so addictive that I wish I could replicate the recipe at home. It is very easy to see why this spot has received so many accolades, and I would love to return the next time we are back in Victoria! read more

Outdoor seating was perfect given the weather when we visited. Staff were friendly and seated us quickly. The menu covers decent ground with Irish inspired fare, plus a beer and drink selection. Quite a traditional Irish menu with a slight Canadian influence in the recipe. The food was exceptional. They also had the option to put your own image on top of your Guinness, so points for that. What an amazing place, it used to be a bank, now it is a traditional Irish pub. The staff wears kilts, the beer selection, the second to none. The prices are reasonable. It's a casual atmosphere to stop in and have a pint or they offer half pints. The place looks like it's right out of Europe. They have patio seating where you can watch everybody walk by. I have never been to Victoria and not have gone there. I happened to overhear from a passing tour guide that the Irish Times Pub was once a bank, which would explain the grandeur of its exterior and interior. But what he failed to mention is that their service, food and drinks are similarly lavish, extravagant, and worth investing your money in. I truly struggled with the dilemma of ordering either the shepherd's pie, or the bangers and mash, eventually choosing to go with the former, as it is one of my all-time favorite dishes, and based on how fantastic it was, I know would not have been disappointed in the latter, either. A thick, warm, fluffy layer of mashed potatoes over seasoned beef and veggies, with a thick crust of melted cheese on top; it's like a creme brulée for people with savory, sanguine palates, or who hate sugar (like me)! Couple that with an Irish Old Fashioned, and you have made me one happy boy! For a few moments, I was able to forget the impending sorrow of having to leave Victoria on the ferry in a few hours. My wife, who had enjoyed a larger brunch than mine, supped on a cup of their fantastic crab bisque: a surprising find on the menu of an Irish pub, in our opinion, but well-received - it had a savory twang to it I could not identify, but gave it a unique quality that we appreciated, and will not soon forget. I didn't get the best look around the interior, as it was nearly full, and we had a stroller with us, so outside seating was our only option. That said, service was prompt, friendly and efficient, and everything arrived sooner that we expected it to, even out on the patio. Every aspect of our visit was top notch, proving that it's not just the luck of the Irish that makes this pub a world-class establishment, and a four-leaf clover in Victoria's hat! We visited for Irish music and the band did not disappoint. The seating was problematic for me as I cannot sit on a high bar chair. Most of the seats are high chairs and the few low chairs don't break very often. My boyfriend was going to borrow a little chair to put me in at the bar but the people at the table with the extra chairs invited us to sit with them. You can't count on that though - so if you have a disability and can only sit in a regular chair, you might be disappointed here. The beer is great - I love the Harp lager- and the food looked fantastic, especially the fish and chips. Service is friendly and very good especially considering how busy this place is. read more
