I am usually not the kind of person to write reviews, but I am very disappointed in the service that was given to my party. It took us at the minimum ~30 minutes to get us water, and the food came around 15 minutes later. Not sure if this was supposed to be a big concern, but my party was pushed aside for another group who came after us, who were not minorities, and were also walk-ins, with the same number of people in my party. The restaurant was not understaffed either, and it was not as busy as they played it out to be. It should not have taken the staff a minimum of thirty minutes to serve water and utensils. As American tourists, we felt uncomfortable with the treatment we had received, since it seemed every person who was not a minority had been favored. Food was good (from the fact I come from America where everything is overpriced), but it's not worth the hassle of feeling oppressed. read more

We stopped at this restaurant on the way to another place because my friend wanted to try the Canadian poutine. Honestly, it ended up being pretty disappointing, and I wish we had just stuck with our original plan. I wasn't hungry, so I didn't order anything, but my friend was really looking forward to the poutine. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. The bacon was cold, there was way too much of it, and the whole dish felt heavy and kind of unpleasant to eat. She's had poutine in Canada before, so she had something to compare it to, and she said this version just wasn't very good. One thing that seemed a little odd was that nobody asked if we wanted to take the leftovers home. It almost felt like they knew people don't usually finish it. The service was fine, nothing special. The atmosphere felt more like a sports bar than somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit. Overall, I wouldn't come back, and I definitely wish we had gone to the restaurant we originally planned on trying instead. read more

A fine place to try some authentic Poutine in Canada for a few hours. Also got the SF fries. I preferred the poutine ones. but a girl has got to get her carbs in - am I right. It wasn't inexpensive, but the portions were large. read more

Great food! Pan seared halibut burger was unbelievably good, buffalo chicken wrap was also quite good! Service was great no issues at all! This is one of the nicer patios downtown, and although you cannot see the water, you still get a nice breeze from it! The patio is also COVERED in plants which makes it very beautiful. The heavy foot traffic makes for a great ambiance and people watching also! Overall a great summer spot to try out! Never been in the winter so can't speak to the inside. read more

The vibe here alone would have been enough to draw us in, but the floral ambiance of the outdoor patio, the lighting, and the perfect summer evening weather made The Local our first dining choice for our weekend visit to Victoria! We found it randomly on our nighttime stroll through Bastion Square, although we ended up looping around the block to get a feel for the area before setting in. Despite it seeming to be completely full, we were seated immediately on an outdoor patio table away from the street, and our incredibly friendly and welcoming server Danika taking care of us for the rest of the stay. We ordered the Cowboy Steak Tacos, the Spicy Vegetarian Rockstar, and a London Pimm's between us, and were treated to a slowly-encroaching lightning storm in the distance, while we waited, which wasn't long! The Cowboy Steak Tacos were probably my favorite meal of the entire trip: peppery, spicy and lean, with a delicious savory sauce and pickled onions. Even my wife's tofu salad dish, something not usually to my liking, had a thick glaze of spicy sauce that gave it a more solid, inviting texture, and when coupled with the array of fresh veggies, really came together to create a dish even I would order. And my London Pimm's, despite being a gin drink which, again, not something I usually order, was light, crisp and refreshing, and something I'd like to have more often. I should try to get the recipe. I didn't see much of the interior, but I liked what I saw: looks like the kind of social bar, like the Dixie, that I tend to frequent back in Portland, although nicer: multi-hued neon lighting, loud music, multiple levels filled with party people. But the outside patio is really where it's at: I didn't see a restaurant with outdoor seating anywhere in downtown Victoria that could hold a candle to the charm of The Local, and it will always stand out in my mind as one of the city's premier outdoor dining option: a fantastic location at the base of the Bastion Square steps, and boasting an unparalleled ambiance. This is the sort of place I am going to want to return to again and again, whenever the weather (and the wallet) allows! read more

The food was excellent and the portions are huge so you can definitely share if you don't have a huge appetite. Kendoll was our waitress and took great care of us. If the weather is nice, sit outside. The views are beautiful. read more

5 stars for the patio dining 3 stars for weak cocktails 4 stars for great service We were drawn in by the beautiful patio. Hard to miss it when it's surrounded by flowers in pots everywhere here. Sadly, the cocktails here are lacking alcohol. All 3 cocktails were very weak - Guy Ritchie (gin & tonic), Pimms Cup, Moscow Mule. We were all wondering if they just tricked tourists here. The cocktails are $13-$16 each - pretty pricey but I get that we're in the thick of touristy area during peak season. And my daughter's virgin Shirley Temple was not made with grenadine - maybe strawberry syrup instead? And it wasn't even stirred. All the red syrup sunk to the bottom. I would skip this spot and go somewhere else. read more

During our visit to Victoria, we stumbled on The Local. The patio was packed every time we walked by so we decided to stop in for lunch one day. The food was very good for bar food but the atmosphere was a bit much for the lunch vibe we were seeking. They had TVs with the latest sports on but then there seemed to be a party on the second floor and the bar area was so packed you had to push your way through to get to the bathroom. Highly recommend riding the poutine (thought it was slightly salty) and the fish and chips. read more

Today's visit to Victoria, B.C. we stopped at The Local and tried their Maui Love (flatbread), House Smoked Texas Pulled Pork Sandwich, Pound of Wings, Stanley Cup Poutine, Pacific Halibut and Chips (upgraded to Poutine) with a pint of Acres of Darkness stout. We are so glad we ate here. Excellent customer service from beginning to end. We were seated as soon as we arrived (party of 5). Our food was served within 10 to 15 minutes of ordering. Our food was hot, fresh and most of all delicious. Maul Love flatbread had a hint of sweet flavor yet with a spicy kick. Just enough red peppers to bring out the flavor and balances the taste of pineapple. This is a must try. Smoked Texas Pulled Pork was tender and barbecue sauce was perfect. Portion size is the pulled pork inside the bun was plenty. Poutine was yummy with the right amount of gravy. It went well with the pint of Acres of Darkness Stout. Our server was awesome. She was great from beginning to end along with her food recommendations. Will tell all our family and friends to try out The Local on their up coming visit to Victoria. We also enjoyed the ambiance. We were seated up in the closed balcony by the huge windows. read more

We had just gotten off the ferry and were starving. Walked up and got a table right away. Our servers were lovely, and brought drinks and took our order. We enjoyed the food, the nachos really are huge- almost too big, need 4 ppl to order it. Chicken tenders and fries are the typical. And the poutine was good, the bacon especially nice. Strange to me on the menu for the poutine it says fries, but doesn't say gravy, but it comes with gravy.... We ate inside, it wasn't took loud and lots of tvs to watch the Olympics. read more

This place has excellent cocktails (try the Guy Ritchie!) and delicious lunch. I had the chicken souvlaki bowl and it was AMAZING!! Plenty of food for the price - I could have made it into two meals but I couldn't stop eating. The service is top-notch, the nightlife is rock'n, unfortunately I wish I could say the same for the food.... Ordered the $24 cheesesteak sandwich and I wish I hadn't... It was more bun than anything else, and the bun was dry and not roasted, it lacked flavour and condiments (mayo, mustard or anything would have been nice). I love the patio in the summer, I think I'll still to that with bevies and bypass the food going forward. read more

The Family Feud of Dining - A Tale of Conflicting Tastebuds Once upon a time, in a land of culinary chaos, a family of five ventured into the mysterious realm of "Divisive Delights" - a sit-down restaurant with a reputation for causing rating rifts within families. Armed with only their taste buds and an unshakable disdain for the number 7, they embarked on a quest to determine the eatery's true value. As the patriarch, I found myself in the eye of the storm, battered by a whirlwind of mediocrity. My experience was best described as a gastronomic rollercoaster, ranging from flashes of potential to plummeting moments of despair. Alas, a 3 out of 10 is the only score that could encapsulate my heartache. My wife, the beacon of hope and reason, fared slightly better. She found solace in the restaurant's whimsical decor and charming ambiance. For this, she extended the olive branch of a 4 out of 10. Our 16-year-old son, a disciple of the culinary school of "Quantity over Quality," reveled in the copious portions and grease-laden creations. He was particularly enthralled by the "Tower of Burgers," a veritable skyscraper of meat and cheese. With teenage fervor, he declared his allegiance to Divisive Delights, bestowing upon it an 8 out of 10. Our 10-year-old daughter, the family's culinary diplomat, weighed the pros and cons with the wisdom of an old sage. Acknowledging the warm bread and attentive service, she conferred a gracious 6 out of 10 upon the establishment. Lastly, our 8-year-old daughter, a fierce advocate for all things sweet, found her nirvana in the dessert menu. The "Chocolate Volcano," a molten masterpiece that erupted with every spoonful, won her unwavering support. She too awarded Divisive Delights an 8 out of 10. And so, as the sun set on our dining adventure, the family retreated from the battlefield, forever divided by the experience that was Divisive Delights. The legacy of this establishment shall live on as a testament to the great dining divide - for some, a tantalizing treat; for others, a woeful waste. Proceed with caution, dear reader, for Divisive Delights is not for the faint of heart or stomach. Will you be swayed by the siren song of oversized portions and delectable desserts, or will you steer clear of this gastronomic gamble? Only you can decide. My 16 year old got the Korean Burger. read more

Outside patio with all the hanging baskets is very cool, food is nailed, only negative is they changed the inside street view low tables to high top tables and tall chairs, wife can't do those so we had to leave and find another place with low tables. All the outside tables are low but it was too chilly. Not sure of the logic behind this. Other than that we totally love the local and will be back next summer to sit outside. read more

The stars were aligned as were hungrily wandering Victoria. The Local had a big table open for our group of 7 outside under the flowers! We were attended to quickly and had drinks in had not long after we were seated. The waitstaff was patient with our group as while we finally chose our meals. The food was timely, served beautifully, and was so very good. A huge plus waa that the appetizers were quite large and two items worked well for our group. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Our only ask is that the hard beverages had a spash or of alcohol. That would liven the flavors! A lovely spot to eat! read more

We ordered the brussel sprouts which were pretty good. I also ordered the turkey sandwich without bacon. The turkey was kinda dry and was nothing special. The rest of the food my group ordered was just okay. Normally I don't expect the best from bar food, however based on the location and the prices I though the food had to be decent, however this wasn't the case. The service was alright. We found this place by accident while walking around Victoria. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is located on Wharf Street in Bastion Square, a piazza-like setting filled with restaurants, bars and a museum. The inside is very warm and cozy with dim lighting, bar, booth, and regular table seating and a loft as well. The outdoor seating with umbrellas has great views of the harbor and skyline. FOOD: Clam Chowder - Not sure if we got the wrong order but it tasted exactly like potato leek soup. The ingredients looked like it too. Maybe we received the daily special instead? Odd. Pound of Wings - 10 wings done in a honey BBQ sauce. Mildly sweet flavor and crispy exterior. Very mainstream. Tofino Linguine - 8 baby clams, 4 mussels, salmon (I didn't taste any), halibut, and 4 prawns done in a light white wine garlic herb sauce sprinkled with asiago cheese. The pasta was cooked nicely but the amount could've been a bit more. The sauce had a nice mild flavor that didn't need enhancements. There was way too many chunks of tasteless halibut, and the prawns, clams & mussels were good. SERVICE: We walked in without any reservations at 8:15 on a Thursday night and waited about 10 minutes for a table outside. The hostesses and servers were all friendly and professional. OVERALL: Nice place to grab a bite with a great view and moderate pricing. read more

I'm thinking that I'd like to give The Local 4 and a half stars but I'll err on the side of caution and stick to 4. I won't lie, they are a pretty pricey spot but if you consider the environment around you (aka the awesome Harbour view), the ability to sit inside or out, and the proximity to the downtown core, I completely understand why. At the end of a long day, at the end of a long week, I met some friends here to get a bite and a drink and really unwind. My mind was racing with ideas about school, work, and other responsibilities until the glass of wine that I ordered (house white - menu says Dessert Peaks Pinot Grigio) came and I realized that their only sizes are 8oz's... Naturally, all my worries melted away as I tasted the first sip of that crisp, golden nectar and embraced the weekend. On a less dramatic note, I also ordered a serving of their yam fries and I was in LOVE. They brought out a huge basket of them with a very good amount of chipotle mayo; enough to finish the whole basket (and I loooove my chipotle mayo). The fries were cooked perfectly, actually, with a nice soft centre and a lovely bite to the outsides of them. You see, the problem with writing these after-the-fact is that I'm always hungry and want to go back. Oh well, looks like I have plans for Friday! read more

Come here for the outdoor seating and the gorgeous view of the waters. Servers are pleasant and food is decent. I found the poutine to be very salty with the sauce and bacon, and the fries were a little too over-fried for my taste. Nevertheless, the ambience makes up for it. Would come again. read more

Ugh, I wanted to love this place. It came highly recommended for food and service. However good the food was wouldn't matter because the service was horrible.
