Both Matthew and Eduardo waited on me and they were both so nice. I started sitting on the patio, I ordered waygu gyoza there. The sauce was yummy. I appreciated their mocktail menu. I started with a stormy passion. They hey let me take a sip of a local cider but I decided to stick w the mocktails. Later I did a drivers sbagliato which I also enjoyed. I would've tried them all if I could. I got kinda chilly so I went inside. My food was served there. I did the ribs and chicken. Matthew recommended them and they got better as time went on. The place itself is very cute. Outside has great views of the city. They're in a cool area with a lot of foot traffic. Towards the end of my meal I did see someone catch my eye. The door to outside was open and a mouse was inside. I'm not going to take it as a reflection of anything other than the door being open and leave it at that. I can't say enough good things about this place! We stumbled into 10 Acres Commons during a snow day, not expecting much. We were met with very friendly staff, super quick service and great recommendations. The place was also so cute inside! The food itself was super tasty! I highly recommend any of the sushi, my spicy tuna roll was very fresh. My partner got the clam chowder and loved it. The prices were affordable, not overly priced. We ended our lunch with a delicious chocolate cake and some champagne suggested by our waiter. We will absolutely be back the next time we're in Victoria! read more

We just happened across the 10 Acres Commons while wandering the streets of Victoria. The atmosphere looked inviting with its chic industrial look, the menu had good options for a variety of preferences, and the workers all seemed to be smiling and happy. We decided to stop in and try it out. We were delighted that the food was delicious, service was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere was just as charming from the inside. We also learned that the foods are grown at their own farm or locally sourced. You could definitely tell everything we ordered was made with fresh, high quality ingredients. Their location was not far from our hotel (Marriott) which was handy with two toddles in tow. Myself and my husband weren't too hungry so we ordered a dozen oysters and opted to order their beef dumpling (five pieces)for our two littles. They too had a meal an hour before coming in. All were delicious, though we had to order another dish of dumplings because our kids devoured the first one. We plan to return during their happy hour because the price of their oysters are much more friendly to our wallets. As mentioned, we had two toddlers (1.5 year old and a 3 year old) and suffice to say, the restaurant is not toddler friendly. The tables in the patio area are very close to each other, so you might need to ask the guests at the neighboring table to scoot their chair in a bit so you can sit at your table. We've always loved this place for the quality and consistency of food, great happy hour options and upscale pub vibe. This time was a bit lackluster in terms of service. Our server may have just been overworked, however I think it was the tune of the manager that tainted our visit. We simply tried to edit the way our order was processed on the bill as it would result in a $6 difference for the exact same order. You'd think we were asking for something totally unreasonable and difficult with the hostility we were met with! In the end it was a simple fix that didn't need to have such a rough discussion during our meal. I'd also describe it as child tolerant. I get places don't always welcome kids but at an early time of day, it's pretty reasonable for them to be around. Dogs are welcomed on the patio with water bowls so this could be great for you if you wanted to bring a dog. On the plus side, the happy hr drinks are great! Great prices and include things like sangria, Bellini, Aperol spritz and more. The sushi platter has always been a great option, and the flatbread was surprisingly good too. When my daughter said thank you, the waitress said you're welcome with her back turned already walking away from the table. It took forever to get the check, I mean bill. The drink I ordered was a spicy margarita and it was delicious!! The best part of the meal. My daughter ordered the burger and she really enjoyed it and ate almost the whole thing. Great food, except the steak was a little tough. Cooked perfectly to the requested Medium, it just wasn't that great a cut. Charcuterie tray was good and the sushi was excellent. The tables on the deck are real close together though which I never love especially if you wanna focus on your own conversation. Been to Victoria a million times and never once stopped by here! We stopped by for lunch as they just opened and had amazing service. We were attracted by a seafood driven menu. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, calamari, and some oysters on half shell. We loved everything and it all tasted pretty fresh. Also all came out super quick. Their drink list is pretty extensive and our server was pretty knowledgeable and great at making suggestions. The items were definitely on the pricier side, but considering we were in a nicer place and ordered seafood dishes, I would say we got out with a decent check! The BAD: Calamari - the batter was crispy and overly flavored to the point where the squid could not be tasted at all; Clams & Mussels dinner - the tomato sauce (it was NOT a broth) was heavily oily and over-powered the taste of clams and mussels; Baby Back Ribs - over cooked, lathered in a high sugar BBQ sauce that over-powered the taste of the pork ribs. Can you see/hear the theme is this... every dish was over-powered by its "sauce". The college "kids" serving went through the motions, but really did not care a hoot. And the bill was VERY EXPENSIVE! The good is that it is a nice looking place with a cool outside area to sit, and the people were nice. Unfortunately that's all I have. Every single light fixture was absolutely caked with dead gnats and flies... Keep in mind that all the light fixtures are directly above where you sit, eat, and drink... then I started looking at all the decor and fans... instantly felt sick to my stomach. Also, very young overall staff, which is fine, (I started bartending at 21) but usually there is one older/seasoned professional managing or checking on customers and staff. Couldn't find a single one. I wasn't trying to cause a scene or anything like that, I just quietly notified the bartender and he was reciprocal and said he'd talk to management. This place is highly overrated. The food is mediocre at best and the service is poor. With plenty of other options around town, I'd recommend spending your money and time elsewhere. We came as a group of eight, and ordered drinks, apps, mains, dishes from their evenings specialty's, and dessert. Not one person could rave bout the food. Main entrees came out slowly one, two at a time. Our last main meal didn't arrive until everyone else was finished and waiting. The server ignored us and we had to ask another worker walking by for help. They ended up comping half of the price of that dish--really that made them look stingy after that. Y'all. This place is great. Three main reasons why I love them: 1) They have one of the best happy hour menus in Victoria. This isn't some stingy happy hour menu with 5-6 dishes and 3 drinks. Their happy hour menu consists of 10-15 different dishes and a great cheap drink list. Plus, this special is offered daily versus other places that only offer happy hour on weekdays. 2) Their food is delicious! A few of my favourites are the calamari (doused in curry powder, which is surprisingly impeccable), ceviche (fresh, fresh, fresh!), crispy chicken tacos (their happy hour menu comes with three), clam chowder, and popcorn oysters (deep fried oysters, essentially). I'm not going to lie, I could come here only for their calamari and be a happy camper, they're that good. 3) If you snag a seat on the patio, the views overlook the Inner Harbour and the Parliament building. Which, during the summers are absolutely gorgeous. I've only ever come for happy hour, but their a la carte lunch and dinner menu looks just as great. Service has always been quick and efficient. The only thing I was not expecting was their shots were extremely expensive , it was our first time being in Victoria Canada so definitely not used to shots being that expensive but still we had a great time there. Two of the people with us live in Seattle, and my hubby and I go to eat seafood since I am Pescatarian (only meat is seafood, with the occasional try of new items). We were excited to sit on the patio and enjoy some delicious food and drinks. Their mixed drinks were not on-point that day. I got the Tilted Farmer and Her Majesty's Libation as I love any mixed drink with Prosecco, and they were both too sour and not mixed well. The rest of my table got simple cocktails, wine, or beer, and they enjoyed their drinks. If I go back to one of their places, I will stick with their excellent wine or beer list. We started our order with the seafood tower. The first thing we noticed was there there were only ten oysters, and the menu says there are a dozen on the tower. When we inquired about the missing two oysters, we were told that the oysters we got were large, so they only gave us ten. First off, that was not true. They were not significant, check out the pictures. PLUS, who has ever heard of 10 oysters equaling a dozen no matter how large! Four people can't evenly split a dozen oysters! We enjoyed the dips that were on the tower. The salmon dip went best with the crostini, and the whitefish dip was superb on the rice chips. We were happy they gave us more crostini and rice chip to finish drops. The ceviche was ok, but I've had better in many places. The number of mussels almost made up for the two missing oysters. The sushi rolls were alright, but nothing special. To add to the so-so service, please know I usually don't take off for service because I know everyone can have a bad day or a place gets slammed, and someone didn't come in or whatever, but she took our bottle of water away and didn't refill without us having to remind her a few times. First place we stopped by after checking in at the Fairmont Empress Hotel and first time in Victoria. On a non busy Tuesday dinner, the service was horrible. The waitress only came to take our order, never checks and never refilled water. Had to waive my arm profusely to get the bill and the place wasn't even a quarter full. First, it took a while for her to come take our order. Waited 45 minutes for our food, except for a salad entree that never came. finally had to cancel the salad since my whole party (5 of us total) had finished their meals and still no salad. Nonetheless I was livid. One caution... this is seriously not family friendly like at all so I wish we researched better places. However, it was the first restaurant we saw coming out of the Fairmont so be sure to explore better options if you are staying there. The fried calamari seemed to be cut up and breaded to give the appearance of a larger portion. It as if the kitchen was rationing the food, but they still charged premium prices. Also, our table of 4 had 2 cups and 2 forks and we had to ask for both cups and silverware. Outdoor chairs were uncomfortable while also being squeezed in. It will get confusing if you don't look up directions because you might just end up at 10 Acres Bistro and not the commons. We got there just in time for our table. It was quite a busy night on a Saturday but I think it is no excuse for the drinks to come so slowly. It came 20 mins after we ordered and there were 4 bartenders at the bar... And before I get into the food-- i just had ro mention that our server was quite curt and kind of gave negative energy while serving us. It was like she hated her job or we caught her on a bad day but come on!! My friend asked her if she recommends the Empress Gin (which is local to victoria) the server returns with a semi scoff (like "i dont f*cking know") and then said "I don't see why I would not recommend it, I've never had it".
