Came in around 5:30 for dinner on a Friday night and stood at the entrance for like 5 minutes without being acknowledged by a single employee the entire time. One stood there with her back turned to us the entire time, the other one was serving this one table the entire time. She looked over at us multiple times, but did not acknowledge us. The bartender made a couple drinks and stood around drinking water and also looked over at us several times without acknowledging. Another server was busing a table in the back. While on an Alaskan cruise, we stopped in Vancouver. Consulted Yelp and this place had good reviews so we went for it. This place is very nice. Beautiful views while you enjoy your meal. I had the cod fish and chips, my daughter had the paella, and the menfolk had the steak special with shrimp. We also shared an order of poutine fry's. Everything was delicious! My wife and I dined there on 4/14/26. We had fish and chips and fish wrap. Both items were sub-par. The battered fish was under cooked and soggy in both the fish and chips dish and the wrap. The wrap wad flavorless and dry. Service was OK but the staff were not engaging and did not really seem interested in you being there. This place does not deserve a 3.6 rating. read more

On the night we arrived, we had a late dinner at this place: IPAs and fish and chips (it was a Friday so the cod was in special) I'll say that a single piece is big enough to have been my main with the fries and slaw on the side. Unless you're really hungry or sharing, consider that. The batter on their fish is pretty thick -- it isn't a light dusting like at some places. The fries were hot and the beer was cold. Our last stop to get amazing seafood so we had the Halibut Fish-n-Chips. Our server said the two piece portion would be enough for the both of us and she was correct. It came out piping hot and was tasty!! There were parts of the fish where the breading was a bit thick but all in all a tasty meal and we would return if back in the area. While the view is lovely, the service and the food was subpar. After we were seated (at 5pm, when it wasn't yet busy) it took 20 minutes before the server acknowledged us, and then a full hour to actually get our food. We ordered a chicken pesto sandwich, blackened salmon tacos, and a fried chicken sandwich. Everything came with an off flavor as if some ingredient had expired. The fried chicken sandwich had no flavor. The fries and the side salad were good though. Open door meant there was a swarm of flies throughout the restaurant. This is a mixed review. The front of house staff was trying really hard, but their training was clearly lacking. In what universe does the soup come out after the main course? And when it did come out it had a thick film on top that screamed, "I've been sitting in the window so long I died a thousand deaths!!!" It was tasty, but, no, clam chowder shouldn't have a film on top. Our waiter offered to put my prawn wrap under the warming lights while I ate my filmy clam chowder, but then my wrap would have died and been wholly unappetizing. I took the best option and ate it and the soup as if they weren't separate courses. Let's talk salad dressing: blue cheese dressing should not be spicy, no... just no!!! It should taste like blue cheese. We even asked if it really was blue cheese and our waiter assured us that it was. It was so spicy my wife couldn't eat it. The waiter offered another salad, this time with ranch dressing. Mmmm, nope... way too much sugar in it. I never knew ranch dressing was supposed to be sweet, like candy sweet... weird... My prawn wrap was pretty good, but it came out before my soup... (see above). The cocktails were outstanding. So was the house white wine. To management: everyone needs better training on how and when things should come out of the kitchen. If you're not sure, learn. Clam chowder with a film on top is kinda disgusting. I know everyone was trying really hard to make sure our dining experience was up to par, and kudos for trying, our waiter really was a very nice young man, but, everyone needs better training. To the head chef: Chef... I've traveled a lot. I've eaten at a restaurant or two and worked in a restaurant or two... but, blue cheese salad dressing should taste like blue cheese, not jalapeño ranch or sriracha or gochugaro or whatever spices you put in your blue cheese dressing. I don't care how edgy you're trying to be, it should taste like blue cheese, and the blue cheesier the better, no spice; if you make weird spicy blue cheese dressing warn your diners! And ranch dressing shouldn't be hard candy or sweet iced tea sweet, it should have a buttermilk tanginess. That's why it's called "buttermilk ranch," not "pineapple hard candy ranch" or "sweet iced tea ranch." Oh, and fries... when you get to the bottom of the bag and all the fries are about a couple of centimeters long, start mixing in a new bag so the customer gets some longer fries mixed in with the tiny fries. A plate full of tiny fries is weird and kinda hard to eat... unless you're using a fork. Or maybe don't even serve the fries from the bottom of the bag, save those for poutine at family meal or staff meal, or whatever you call it at the Flying Otter. Customers don't like tiny fries. Based on other reviews maybe this was an off evening, stuff happens, I get it. Your staff for the most part was trying really hard, but it's clear that you (management) need to spend significantly more time on training on the nuances of timing when dishes come out of the kitchen and how long they sit in the window under the heat lamps. Honestly, I'm being generous with three stars, but my prawn wrap, cocktail and house wine were pretty good. So three stars it is. read more

What a setting for a restaurant; right on Victoria's inner harbor, floating next to where the Harbour Air seaplanes dock (Single and Twin Otters), and right next to their air terminal. We received a friendly greeting from our hostess, and we're seated on the patio in a perfect spot for viewing. Our servers was also very friendly, and asked where we were from, and what our plans were for the day -- a nice touch. After getting off to a good start, I hoped the food would match the great service, but unfortunately it was only 3-3.5 stars, so 4 seems about right. We ordered poutine for an appetizer, and while it was good, it was a far cry from what we had yesterday at another restaurant. This poutine had a very salty gravy, and not great depth of flavor. The fries were nice and crispy, though; and the curds were generous, so still pretty good. For an entree, I ordered a 1-pc halibut fish & chips. The fish seemed like a large portion, with an adequately crispy exterior; but I found the batter to be very thick, and the inner layer was a little soggy. The fish was bright white and fresh, though; and was cooked to the correct doneness (although I found it to lack seasoning). The chips were good and crispy, so I was happy there. While the food didn't live up to my expectations, I would still eat here again, if for no other reason than to see the Otter seaplanes from a closer perspective. read more

Very crowded even for a Thursday evening! The wait was about 30 minutes. Overall, it was a cute place to eat, but a little overpriced for the quality. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. This was our favorite meal of our trip. The Caesar salad had baked capers that added a great flavor. We came here for dinner on a Thursday and they had a steak special- 6oz steak, 3 shrimp, baked potato, and salad all for a great price of $20-$25 (can't remember the exact price). The steaks were cooked well, the salad and potato were good as well. We sat outside in the extra patio area they had separate from the restaurant. It was perfect and had a nice view of the water. Our server was good and attentive. I would highly recommend this place if you're staying in the area or waiting for a Harbour Air flight. The prices are good and so is the service! read more

Most reviews for this place seem old, ranging from 3 years to 10 months so I'm not sure if my different experience is because of that. We visited in August 2022 on a Saturday evening. It was surprising to us that they had you order food first before finding a table to sit down. But that wasn't a bad experience either. We ordered seafood paella and it was delicious. The cob salad we had was also wonderful. The service was great and the views was good too. It is right by the water but your view may get blocked by those whale watching boats. We were seated on the dock, and the views were beautiful! We all ordered the steak special for steak night! My mother and I ordered a medium rare steak, and my wife ordered a medium steak. Went here on a Friday (Sept 6, 2024) as I heard there was a special for fish n chips. They were greasy and flavourless, but edible I guess. Wouldn't get them again as I felt nauseous after from all that grease and I didn't even get the fries. I was in a rush so I asked the waitress for the bill, but was taking a while as she was too busy talking about her life story with other customers. Totally fine. I then went inside and asked nicely to pay the bill there and the manager (I assume she was the manager) short, skinny, medium length bleach blonde hair and wearing all black walked by and tried mocking me saying "rah rah rah" in a nasally voice when she heard the encounter and hid away It was cute, but someone needs to check that little girl's attitude. The guy that processed my bill was efficient and professional though. If you like eating a lot of grease, then you might be able to tolerate the fried fish here. Just wasn't for me. My poke bowl was very pretty. Flat bowl made it difficult to eat from. Tuna PORTION SIZE embarrassingly small for a twenty buck MAIN. Sides on the boring side seaweed or toasted sesame, even ginger might have helped. Twas okay, albeit unremarkable. Other dish at ten bucks was 2 tiny tacos (fish fried), tasty but .... Smallish serve Where was the fresh cilantro? Pot of tea was a nod of the cap to this part of the world, as THEY LOVE A CUPPA ! I asked if she can split us up and she said no, she only has one for 4 and one for 2. She could have offered a wait time, but we felt like she shunned us.
