While on an Alaskan cruise, we stopped in Vancouver. Consulted Yelp and this place had good reviews so we went for it. This place is very nice. Beautiful views while you enjoy your meal. I had the cod fish and chips, my daughter had the paella, and the menfolk had the steak special with shrimp. We also shared an order of poutine fry's. Everything was delicious! Our waitress was a doll, very sweet and accommodating. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the hostess; she was a bit surly. If you are in Vancouver, I heartily recommend!

Super cool spot to watch the water and sea planes!

Super polite staff! Felt happy to visit the flying otter and loved all the decor! Food was amazing! A must stop after your sea plane flight

Went for my birthday and this place was delish. Had the Philly cheesesteak and although it could have had more peppers it was actually so good and exactly what I needed. Also had the deep fried cheesecake and it was so rich and amazing and it was even free for my birthday!! Recommend 100%!

Beautiful views from this place, as I sat in the covered patio. I had a solo dinner here and I loved my meal and drink. Great service and cute spot.

The service was excellent but that was the best part of the meal. We've heard so many good things of this restaurant and we're really excited to try it. Sadly my burgers bun was so soft it was falling apart in my hands. The fries were overcooked and not hot. The flavours were great but they couldn't be enjoyed the way they should have been.

Our last stop to get amazing seafood so we had the Halibut Fish-n-Chips. Our server said the two piece portion would be enough for the both of us and she was correct. It came out piping hot and was tasty!! There were parts of the fish where the breading was a bit thick but all in all a tasty meal and we would return if back in the area. The fries were cooked perfectly. To drink I had the Pacific Blush - a grapefruit drink and really enjoyed it.

This was our favorite meal of our trip. The Caesar salad had baked capers that added a great flavor. The fish and chips were huge portions and fish was flaky while the outside was crispy and not oily. The sirloin burger was large and had a lot of flavor. The lime margaritas were also delicious. The servers were really nice. We have Avery and she took great care of us by checking in often and food was brought out in a good amount of time.

Blackened Halibut Burger ($18) plus Fries ($6): ouch on the price-to-portion ratio - but they are tasty!!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE It can be a bit spendy...but if you're looking for good eats with good service in a nice environment downtown - and better yet, are waiting for a flight at the Harbour Air terminal then this is definitely a place to check out! === 2. FOOD Blackened Halibut Burger ($18) A filet of filter with a pineapple-based salsa and avocado. It's certainly very small for the price (no sides) but it packs a lot of taste! Fries ($6) Not the cheapest for the size either, but they taste like they are from fresh-cut potatoes and tasty on their own even without ketchup - I think they're worth the price of admission, especially if you're sharing. All in all, $24 for a burger with fries would normally feel like highway robbery if it were not for the items below: === 3. SERVICE Pretty solid - from ordering to constantly checking and clearing tables. Speaking of ordering, it was a surprise to learn that while it looks like a typical place where a host seats you, you instead order at a desk, they give you a number on a stand, and then you find a table that you like. === 4. ENVIRONMENT The environment is nice also - you may not be fitting a large group easily here, but there are tables indoors and seats around a bar, plus tall tables outside when the weather cooperates. All of it looks relatively modern/contemporary and certainly clean. There is a ramp with a bit of an incline that goes down to the restaurant - something to note for those with with baby strollers. Those with wheelchairs should also note that ramp plus how only the tables indoors would offer a table of suitable height. Parking is a paid lot at the top of the ramp.

We stopped in on a cruise that stopped in Victoria, BC. We had been walking and were going to go to another well reviewed Yelp restaurant when we realized it was a food stand, We wanted to sit, eat and enjoy the harbor and The Flying Otter smelled amazing!! I am so glad we stopped in. I am gluten free and I was able to get gluten free calamari, gluten free bacon shrimp and gluten free fish and chips. It was all so good! I will definitely return if I am ever in Victoria in the future.

What in the Canadian bacon are other Yelpers reviewing this place below 4 stars for? Sat at bar for cocktails and poutine during a wait. Exceptional service and great food.

We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!

The salmon main was absolutely delicious. The salmon roe added a texture were your mouthful just popped. The duck main was cooked perfectly. Did not taste gamey. The black rice or risotto in this dish was very tasty. The dessert of Panna cotta was delicious and had a citrus finish. The dessert feature of rhubarb cake was just meh. The white frosting had no taste and was thick on the cake. You finish out the meal with some jellies and some caramel Service was good but here is the reason for the low rating.... The main of the flat iron with arugala on the top with fries. They plated it and served it with a slug in it. The slug fell from inside the salad onto the plate . A baby slug. But it was living and moving. What followed was poor response and gaslighting of which this restaurant should be ashamed. In order not to disgust the others I stopped a woman that was working the floor to remove the plate. When I pointed to the slug why gave a small chuckle and half smile and stated, "well, it is farm to table." That is gaslighting. Right there that was a poor response. I see signs saying Michelin on this restaurant, but really...if you had served a slug to a someone rating you for a Michelin, you think you would get that rating? Highly doubtful. That should never have been served. Yes the restaurant cooked another meal which took longer. They cooked it just fine too....however their lackluster and empty words of well we do say it's farm to table doesn't replace an apology or an assurance of we will do better.

The atmosphere was alright with dimmer lighting than other similar places which was nice for the mood, and the place was surprisingly louder than expected for the little people that were there. The waitress we had was friendly and nice, but also came by frequently to ask if we were done looking at the menu, with our food, wanting the bill. It felt very rushed despite there not being many other customers in the area. We were only in the restaurant for about 45 minutes today. The food was mediocre. I had the fried chicken and waffles, which looked good but tasted generic. The fried chicken was a bit dry and just tasted like it was seasoned with salt and pepper and that's about it. The waffle tasted like something anyone could make at home. My friend had the Caesar salad, which was drenched in sauce but otherwise looked alright. Overall, the food is on the pricier side, relative to the portion size being served. Expect to spend at least $30 to be full, not including drinks and dessert.
