Great dinner here this Christmas season. They got all 8 of us into a dinner reservation on a weekend evening. The table was perfect. The service was amazing but it did take quite a while to receive our food unfortunately. Sadly Almost 40min-50min after ordering. All the food was excellent. My son said his pizza was one of the best he has ever had. I think there may have been a hot honey on the top to add some sweetness. Sushi was excellent but my other growing son wish he had ordered more food than just that. My husband and I shared the fettuccine and Ceasar. It was very tasty but I do think fettuccine sat a bit under the heat lamp while everyone else's food was being prepared. Tasted a little dry like the cheese wasn't sticking to the noodles anymore. Other than the clam chowder, which was outstanding, I was not that impressed. Hip, swanky place. Cool nighttime vibe, but the food wasn't all that. Skip the aburi salmon sushi press. There's not much of anything there. Same story on the crispy ribs on the happy hour menu. Almost no meat - mostly dry bones. Earls was our first dinner upon our arrival to Victoria. After we checked in to our hotel, we walked around and set our sights on several pubs, some Asian places but couldn't quite decide. Then we saw the menu and 'yuzu calamari' jumped out at us and we were done looking. I would eat a leather belt if it were doused with yuzu. The wait was minimal at 530 pm and we were happy to still have the option to order from the happy hour menu. Solid food, decent prices and great service! We ordered 2 of their sushi presses--wagyu beef and aburi salmon--6 oz steak frites, poke bowl and the aforementioned yuzu calamari and all dishes were fantastic. I had a cocktail, the Tequila Espresso Martini, which I was worried about at first because that's a lot to put on a drink! But it was delicious and went down smoothly and easily, like the rest of that meal. read more

It was our first time trying Earls on Government Street in Victoria. Seems to attract a younger crowd. Maybe because of the loud speakers blasting out pulsating music/rap music in the bar/lounge area. The music was way too loud for us. Next time we will try the seating in the dining area at the back. It seems more quiet and more like a restaurant back there. This Earls is divided into a bar/lounge area at the front and a dining area which is located at the back by the kitchen. The truffle fries were really good. The clam chowder soup was really good, although the soup was served lukewarm to cold. We had to ask for the clam chowder to be heated up. The clam chowder had a substantial number of clams in it, which we liked. The chicken pasta dish was good. Our server, Shelby, was very nice and very attentive. We appreciated her. If a person is disabled, be aware that the washrooms are located downstairs. Our bill came to $79 before the tip for truffle fries, 2 small cups of clam chowder, and one pasta dish. It is getting expensive to dine out!!! Echoing other reviews, we didn't feel our food order filled us up. We were still hungry after leaving. Maybe we should have tried their Happy Hour for a better deal? We would also add that the 3 TV screens in the bar/lounge area need replacing. The picture on 2 of their TV screens was grainy; on the third TV screen, the pixels were jumping all around on the screen. Doesn't make for a good first impression of the restaurant. We prefer the Earls in the new Brentwood Town Center in Burnaby to this Earls. On a Friday night, we went to Earls for dinner. They didn't have a booth available, so we ended up sitting near the kitchen. There was a birthday party happening, and the restaurant was very busy. The atmosphere was lively, but it was hard to have a conversation because of the noise. As soon as the birthday party finished, we saw several mice come out and eat leftovers on the floor. I was very scared, especially when they started coming closer to our table. We informed the staff, but they didn't seem surprised and didn't know what to say. It felt like seeing mice around the kitchen area was normal for them. After that experience, I would never eat there again. It made me wonder how many mice might be around their kitchen, or even inside it. I informed my colleagues and friends, and now I want to share my experience here as well. read more

Stopped in for a quick drink with friends and while the bartenders were great, the hostess crew couldn't be bothered to smile or be welcoming in any way. Not even a polite hi or bye. Good thing the bartenders made up for it! Didn't get any food myself, but my friends got the wings and ribs and enjoyed every bite. We stopped here because tennis was showing on the TVs in the bar area, which was a nice surprise and hard to find. We stayed a long time because of the food was delicious (we barely made happy hour) and drinks were great. We had a margherita pizza, the tofu and sushi tacos (sesame rice paper for the "taco" were great!). The tofu taco was soooooo delicious! The beer and wine selection were good. We have been coming to this Earl's for a very long time now. Me and my husband absolutely love it. Even when we thought this restaurant could not get greater the service that we received during our last visit was absolutely exceptional and so over the moon and it was all pleasantly delivered by our server, George. Our server George continuously went out of his way to make sure that we were comfortable and that we were enjoying our food and drinks. My husband and I decided to take on the town for my birthday and George made my birthday so extra special. He quickly was able to make a connection to us, which added that extra touch of comfort and personal connection to our dinner, and continued to be an awesome server. Amazing bottle to have with a Ribeye Truffle Butter Steak! Well now that the big secret is out I would like to reassure this place is the next happening restaurant in the area. I know people coming to Canada might hear the title Cactus often. But This is a step forward in the hospitality Industry. Great food, we went with the following and will pretty much recommend you all to try this mix: Ribeye + Truffle Butter steak (Medium is recommended by the chef and if you like it medium rare I would recommend medium). Truffle tortellini with Cajun chicken is a unique but admirable combination. It was a delicious combination if you are up for an adventure. Drinks you all already know we went with the Goode Wine : Murphy Goode California Cabernet Sauvignon. Best mix for the steak and pasta! Overall the food was just amazing, but the service was exceptional. Jack and Brandon really took care of us and made sure my wife and I were well take care of. We were on vacation in Victoria and stopped by Earls for lunch. Oh how we wish we live closer and can enjoy Earls more frequent. My husband and I love ordering crab cakes to share as an appetizer. Most restaurants will recommend ordering the entree since it will come with two crab cakes and a salad to enjoy. Earls was the same and we ordered the entree to share. Well, this was a first, they split the entree in two separate plates and made each plate up individually. Not only was the presentation beautiful but these were probably one of our top 5 best crab cakes we have enjoyed!! It was a little different since it had corn but it was delicious. The sauce was delicious and the side salad just complimented everything on the plate. We ordered the tuna ahi poke and a salmon Caesar salad. Since we were in Victoria, we were enjoying the fresh seafood. My ahi tuna poke was delicious and done right. The rice was sushi rice which many restaurants do not do in their bowls. My husband loved his salad and just kept complimenting how delicious and happy he was for ordering it. The staff was very attentive and nice. My husband is happy when his drinks are continuously filled and he does not need to request for a refill on his Arnold Palmer. Earls was spot on for my husband. We had an incredible experience at Earls on our last night in Victoria. John was our server and he was amazing! He suggested the Princess Diana cocktail when I shared that I love Empress gin. It was the best gin cocktail I had the entire trip! Although not on the menu, I strongly recommend you order it if you like gin cocktails. The portion size was just right for me. The cost was definitely on the expensive side but I think it's worth it. We had a fantastic night at Earls! The staff were super friendly, and the food and drinks were fantastic, and the restaurant was clean and modern, like you would expect from an Earls! We went to this location the night before our wedding. When the staff was made aware of our upcoming wedding, we had multiple servers and managers come to our table to congratulate us. To top it off, they gave us a celebratory drink and dessert as well as a vase with flowers! They truly went above and beyond and made our evening special! After viewing the menu, I can see why - the menu was outstanding for a variety of people. They had an entire "plant based" section of the menu and some of their items were vegan. yay! The interior is also very well designed. The plush couches, chairs, and booths in rich colors give this place a modern, hip vibe. The server was also very knowledgeable when I asked about modifying a vegan dish, making sure I knew the noodles I was substituting would have egg in them. Very impressive. The service was slow and our meals were very average. We noticed the people seated around us struggling to get service too, and we pointed our server in their direction when we finally had her attention. Two people in our group ordered the clam chowder, and one bowl tasted burnt...it may have been scraped from the bottom of the pan. We were not upset, but it was not edible, and by the time we flagged our waitress down, everyone else at the table was done eating. The server apologized and brought a fresh bowl of soup, but I was not impressed. It was late for another bowl of soup, and we were still charged. As out-of-towners looking for a place to have a bit of lunch on a recent May Friday afternoon (via cruise ship), we found ourselves wandering and looking at menus, due to having our cellphones turned off because of out-of-country rates. So this Yelper couldn't rely on Yelp. Didn't know what was a chain and what wasn't. Just knew this place looked good. Appealed to us and we went in. This is where we quickly learned that the Southeast US is not the only place that you have to avoid SWEET tea. We ordered iced tea, thinking we didn't have to say UNsweetened. Oh well, it was good anyway. After perusing the menu, we decided to share a Bronx burger. (not trying to be cheap, just only so hungry). Great choice! (see food porn pics). This restaurant benefits from the reputation of Earls, however does not deliver on expectations from the brand. The food is mediocre at best. Anything deep fried is done with old oil that is obvious when you eat it. The calamari is mostly deep fried batter. The rest of the items on the menu are just okay. The service is very poor and lacking. The food takes forever to arrive and all the appetizers and food arrived at once. It's a shame that this restaurant is so poorly managed. While I was in Alberta a couple of years ago, I remembered eating at Earls in Edmonton. I thought it was good, so when we were looking for a place to go to for dinner in Downtown Victoria, I was glad to see that this location was just a few blocks away from our hotel. Although it was really cold outside with flurries blowing around all day, that didn't stop us from getting a couple cold drinks. Since we got there just as Happy Hour was wrapping up, we got a Frozen Pink Lemonade and a Moscow Mule. I can't comment on the Pink Lemonade because I didn't try it. But the Moscow Mule was just the way I like it. Earls uses fresh ginger and freshly squeezed lime juice instead of ginger beer. Very refreshing without all that carbonated sweetness. For dinner, we both got the Oven Roasted Salmon with Dill Aioli, Jasmine Rice, and Asparagus Spears. Delicious! The salmon was moist and cooked perfectly and the rice was fluffy and garlicky. Once again, Earls Kitchen and Bar did not disappoint. I'm definitely a repeat customer. read more
