    Frankie's Deluxe Bacon Cheeseburger
    Bill R.

First evening in Victoria, I was feeling like a burger. Searching Yelp reviews didn't prove too promising. Frankie's was a bit of a walk from our hotel, but had decent reviews. So we gave it a try. It's interesting that we've noticed in the burger section of menus, there's usually just one choice of beef patty burger. And it's always the classic burger, not a lot of options like we see in the states. All the others are chicken sandwiches or salmon patties. So we got the Frankie's Deluxe Bacon Cheeseburger. It's a solid cheeseburger, with fries. Server was friendly and attentive. We were not disappointed.

Frankie's is a great choice for a simple meal if you're in downtown Victoria. It's clean, food is good and the service was amazing. Yes it's a tourist area but Frankie is clean and relaxing. The employees also seem happy. I also found it cute that the name Frankie is literally everywhere!

Frankie's caught our eye from the street and we are so glad it did. They did a really good job of blending modern aesthetic with the dine experience. Our food was fantastic and the service was amazing. The breakfast burger was perfectly cooked and the bun was so pillowy and soft

The service was IMMACULATE chef's kiss. Our waitress was the kindest queen ever and the hashbrowns were bussin'. Shout out to the hollandaise sauce cause she was fye. Not one, not two, but THREE mimosas for $18. Seattle, take notes.

Vegetarian Lasagna, incredible lasagna it's the best I've had in quite awhile

As it happens we were seated in an area with some loud talkers, not the restaurants fault. We had the plus $10 added value where for $10 more you got a starter and dessert. With the Vegetarian Lasagna ($22) we would have had enough. Hours later even after a big walk we were still stuffed.

Our server named Stephanie was attentive and kind to us. The food arrived quite promptly, and was delicious and fresh. Kind of a chill vibe, a cross between "White Spot," and an upscale restaurant. I had the fish and chips, with the coleslaw which had green apple and fennel. An unusual, but super refreshing and tasty combo! At the end; had a wonderful fresh brewed cup of coffee and shared a slice of the amazing mango cheesecake with my sister. An awesome end to an awesome day! And again; waitress Stephanie rocked! Happy travels wherever you go! Peace all!

Great for a diner style breakfast, just as the name implies. Food and service are good. Restaurant vibe is fun. I love that you can just get half a benedict when you aren't that hungry. I had one that came with a pesto sauce - it was good. His salmon and avocado with regular hollandaise was much better.

Veggie burger (homemade then deep fried. It was very mushy and fell apart which made it not a hit)

Great breakfast and location! We missed this a few times as the entrance gets lost next to the Burger King next door if you're not paying attention but glad we tried it. Chicken and waffles was amazing! Don't be afraid of the spicy syrup. Soooo good! Service was quick and and attentive. Would definitely go back!

The wings were the bomb. Worth coming back for all on their own.

A short walk from our hotel Frankie's hit all the spots for lunch for us. It was a little late in the afternoon for full blown lunch, so a couple salads and some wings were on the docket. The decor is dated to be sure, and could use a spruce up, but in our mind that's not why you're here. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated by Steph who took excellent care of us the entire time. She was quite attentive without being overly so. I ordered a garden salad, and the lovely K a Caesar salad along with an order of chicken wings and a couple of dips. My salad was quite good, not overly dressed and plenty of the things you want. Pumpkin seeds, tomato, cucumber and craisins were very evident, although the spring mix could have used a good going over to weed out the gnarly pieces. K's Caesar was also well dressed, but the bacon, although plentiful was kind of tasteless and the Parmesan was out of the dreaded cardboard dispenser. The wings were by far the star, they were excellent and the buffalo sauce was great. The blue cheese dip was good, but had two huge chunks of cheese that made it tough to dip. The wings though are appointment eating, likely some of the best we have ever had. Deep fried with what seemed to be rice flour and maybe a little baking soda as a covering. We'd go back for the wings all the time, pity we aren't in Victoria very often.

Food was good but service was not there at all. I had to ask twice for the water to be refilled, and our waitress was nowhere to be found.

Ambiance was great - super warm and welcoming which was magnified by the host. Super lovely. Then the wait staff. Whoever is hiring/training is doing a great job! Not drinking right now but the cocktail menu was super tempting. Every menu item sounded great. We got some help on ordering from our servers and Tanya picked ones she had enjoyed before. We also sat right beside the pick up window so it was fun seeing food come out! The food was fantastic. See pictures for what we ordered. We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!

The salmon main was absolutely delicious. The salmon roe added a texture were your mouthful just popped. The duck main was cooked perfectly. Did not taste gamey. The black rice or risotto in this dish was very tasty. The dessert of Panna cotta was delicious and had a citrus finish. The dessert feature of rhubarb cake was just meh. The white frosting had no taste and was thick on the cake. You finish out the meal with some jellies and some caramel Service was good but here is the reason for the low rating.... The main of the flat iron with arugala on the top with fries. They plated it and served it with a slug in it. The slug fell from inside the salad onto the plate . A baby slug. But it was living and moving. What followed was poor response and gaslighting of which this restaurant should be ashamed. In order not to disgust the others I stopped a woman that was working the floor to remove the plate. When I pointed to the slug why gave a small chuckle and half smile and stated, "well, it is farm to table." That is gaslighting. Right there that was a poor response. I see signs saying Michelin on this restaurant, but really...if you had served a slug to a someone rating you for a Michelin, you think you would get that rating? Highly doubtful. That should never have been served. Yes the restaurant cooked another meal which took longer. They cooked it just fine too....however their lackluster and empty words of well we do say it's farm to table doesn't replace an apology or an assurance of we will do better.
