Breakfast was good - yoghurts, continental style, etc. Recommend the pancakes (3 cakes) so you can try Alberta maple syrup. Dinner was a leisurely-paced (2hr) affair. Waiter was outstanding. Started with the Mezze platter with hummus. Unfortunately the hummus lacked flavor. The "short rib" wasn't a typical short rib. It was sous vide at 65 Celsius (~150 F) for a nice medium steak. A bit fatty but good overall. Ended with a chocolate torte, which was fantastic. Definitely come, if a bit pricey. read more

The service/waiter was spectacular. And the food was exceptional. I ordered the seafood bisque. Not sure what they are using, but i suspect some kind of seafood based oil. Because I could sea a small layer of oil on the bisque, which I think is where the deep, rich seafood flavor (i.e. lobster flavor) was coming from. My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Grand Pacific for 3 nights. Our first night dined from the more limited menu of Fathom and neither of us were pleased. My spouse had the chuck and brisket/bacon burger with fries. The chef would not prepare it medium but well done only. Complaints were a dry, possibly pre formed and frozen meat patty...the veggies were necessary for moisture. I had the buttermilk chicken "schnitzel" with fennel salad and potatoes. The fennel salad consisted of 2 1/2 thin shaves of fennel. The potatoes were good. The chicken was most likely 3 oz and pounded literally as thin as paper and deep fried within an inch of its life! The dish was small or meager size and I don't need a lot to feel satisfied but simply didn't with this dish of greasy, overcooked paper thin chicken. Ugh. Chocolate torte for dessert....although thin, it was rich and delicious. We shared the white bean mezze for a starter, the hummus was good and the pickled carrots very good. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, dark with deep colors and chill. The feeling we had was this restaurant trying to be a 5-star, chic culinary adventure (small portions but amazing food); however they fell very short. Unfortunately this hotel offers no other kitchen or menu for guests and room service. You won't find a delicious and varied menu here...you are stuck with Fathom. Do yourselves a favor and enjoy a culinary adventure outside of the hotel - every restaurant we have dined in (every time we ferry over to BC) has been yummy, with the exception of Fathom. read more

It is really pretty in here. I called on a late Sunday afternoon to see if they have a happy hour. The host was so helpful & encouraging. We all walked over & had a great time. We did not eat, but we did have a couple drinks. Very good, served by a wonderful server. We sat in a beautiful,comfortable area between the bar & the restaurant. So this is a place to see and be seen...but not to eat. I ordered a seared salmon dinner,and the star of the meal fell flat on its fin. At first I thought it wasn't seared at all just looking at it, but my first bite verified that it was seared...barely. The disappointment came when I dove deeper and found an overcooked, dry salmon. Terrible. When the server asked how our food was he literally treaded water just long enough for my wife to gurgle a reply and then swam off before I could say anything. He was fishy..condescending and polite, sarcastic and deprecating. His subtle humor, which I quite enjoyed, could not raise his water mark for me. I was told two different stories about how the beer taps were not working. Our server I believe lied through his gills and Tod us that the beer lines froze the night before. It was around 58 degrees F the night before. Liar liar. My wife orders the barada. The star of the dish was excellent, but the greens were covered with an inedible side of greens. They had what could best be described as a briny vinaigrette suitable for brine shrimp or a salt vampire. Even my wife who salts almost everything could not eat it. read more

We were staying in the hotel and decided to try their restaurant for breakfast since their dinner menu didn't have many options we were interested in. I love eggs Benedict so I enjoy trying different ones. This one was okay, I think the thick sliced fresh Mozzarella didn't work because I could t really taste the other ingredients. However the fries/hashbrowns were AMAZING! Also, I'm not a big fan of breakfasts that are too sweet so I was nervous about the tiramisu pancakes. They were delicious! They were light and because it's coffee wasn't overly sweet. We also got a nice table by the window overlooking the water but they also have outdoor seating. My review is for Fathom Lounge. We enjoyed the afternoon social hour small plates and cocktail specials. The outdoor patio lounge was very inviting with fire pits, heat lamps and blankets. (There are also window seats inside if you miss those coveted spots.) We enjoyed beef tare tare on potato and some lovely calamari. The service is very personable and professional. We dined elsewhere so I can't speak to main dishes. We came back in the evening twice on our trip. Was slightly bummed there is not a late nite happy hour here like some bars, (you may consider that in future.) Fathom lounge has an excellent classic cocktail, wine and beer offerings. The bartenders are some of the best mixologists I have come across. One of the bartenders clued me in on a mezcal manhattan, it was an incredibly smooth smokey excellence in a glass. Another evening we had a different bartender, craft the best sazarac, from the menu it had touchs like spray of absinthe that elevated this cocktail! (yes, I know, I enjoy old man cocktails! lol) Both times i've visited the service has been excellent! The ambiance is on point, comfortable seating, dimly lit and simply one of the coolest chill cocktail spots in town. I look forward to trying more of their menu in the future. read more

Oh-my, good food. This restaurant is inside a hotel, but it's not your average hotel food! The spin on Northwest cuisine is perfect! The heaters out on the patio are fabulous! Our waiter did great with helping me select a dinner that could accommodate my food allergy(cow dairy). Ok, I gave Fathom a 4 star rating because it is pricey, and the dinner menu is not that great! We received outstanding service both times we ate at the restaurant but the breakfast was much better! We had eggs Benedict and it was very good! Our Breakfast was $50 and we didn't have any drinks so it was a little more than I wanted to pay but location, location, location! We were staying in the hotel and we didn't want to go out, so the price was reasonable for the convenience! I started with the Pina Noir, a rum cocktail that was sweet but still sultry. The chicken karaage was juicy and flavourful, the tartare smoke bowl was fun for the experience! My scallops were amazing, and the bison steak was presented beautifully. The service was what you would expect. Next time I would sit in the lounge over the dining room. A last minute find for us. We ordered the milk bun roll, beef tartare, tuna bites, scallops, and the strawberry yuzu pillow. Visually everything looked phenomenal. Taste-wise everything was delicious. Hands down the best beef tartare we've ever had. And what a presentation! The scallops were perfectly done and paired with a very flavorful mousse. Fathom for date night? Yes indeed give it a try! The greeting was warm and welcoming and the environment felt relaxed and super comfortable. The menu is very focused which made me think it would all have the attention and focus to deliver each dish in a quality manner. And, I was not disappointed, in fact thrilled. For a starter we shared the smoked beef tartare which was a show in itself. A campfire in a huge fishbowl with a generous helping that we thoroughly enjoyed. My partner had the scallops with risotto which was served in a beautiful presentation including an edible scallop shell made from phyllo dough. It was rich and the scallops were perfectly cooked. I chose the spaghetti made with squid ink pasta and served with lovely prawns and a spicy sauce. The mushroom miso risotto was full of complimentary flavors. NY steak cooked medium well and melted in our mouths. The octopus was so soft and came with plenty of vegetables. The spicy level was perfect. The seafood chowder was quite smooth, but the dill was a little strong. Masking some of the other flavors a little. All entrees were approved by us and our 2 year. We grabbed a table at 12:25pm on a Father's Day Sunday, needing to be back across the street at the ferry terminal by 1:30pm for immigration/customs, and the kind folks at Fathom did an excellent job. I got a Caesar beverage -- good and spicy -- and we got a chorizo and bacon hash, chicken sandwich, and a classic eggs Benedict. All were served with flavorful home fries, and they were all really delicious; the portions were generous and the hollandaise was on point. I particularly liked the great spice level of the hash.
