Service was wonderful, food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfect! The whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate was the best I've ever had.

Tucked into a nice hotel in Sooke, West Coast Grill has all the makings of a tourist trap: overpriced and underwhelming. The dinners we're confusingly designed - the fish came with fries, and soup, and coleslaw, all tucked in a wooden tray. The butternut squash was covered in arugula and goat cheese, oddly proportioned and giving the dish an overall confusing texture. Ultimately, the prices make the dishes disappointing, coming in at a minimum of $26/dish.

We came here for happy hour twice while vacationing in Sooke. The ambiance and decor is nice, it's clean and modern and nice views of the harbour. The servers were all very welcoming and friendly. We only ordered the shrimp shared plate (small portion for $30!) and garlic fries- both tasted great. Good selection of wine & beer for happy hour. It was quiet earlier in the day and filled up by 5-6pm. Nice place, would definitely go back.

Once again West Coast Grill chef Adam Guther has proven his expertise with fresh local seafood! Our group of 10, had a delightful & delicious meal with a wide tasting of the tempting menu. Appetizers included luscious crab cakes, calamari & the three cheese dip. The calamari got high praise from our out of town guests. The mushroom ravioli was rich & unctuous & satisfying. The fresh fish & chips with a side of chowder was yummy & the kids all loved the chicken & chips. We rounded off the meal with a variety of desserts: the eye popping mile high mud pie, the spectacular chocolate tart & an array of ice creams & sherbet. In addition to the restaurant, the kitchen was also catering to a very large wedding at the hotel & yet they never missed a beat in delivering a fantastic meal!

Fisherman's Bowl (gluten free)

Meh. An ok place to have breakfast if you're staying at the hotel, but nothing to write home about. They do have great GF options across the board (including gluten free pasta at dinner), and many items can be altered to be made GF. Unfortunately they were out of crab when we had dinner there and the Fisherman's Bowl was pretty seafood light for what it was. Can't say the heavily dressed salad was much better. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict lacked flavor, and the potatoes were bare, and a bit soggy feeling. Finally, the bar was also quite light in terms of selection. Great spot for the views and service (you couldn't ask for more friendly or attentive staff) but wouldn't seek out the restaurant again.

Lively atmosphere and good food for a reasonable price. Both seafood dishes were very good and fresh. Many touch points from several friendly staff making sure we were well taken care of. Great friendly and timely service.

This is another case of looks can be deceiving. The place has beautiful decor and the chairs are very comfy. You'd expect first class service and cuisine, but they fell short. We ate there twice. Once for breakfast and once for the special Christmas Dinner. For breakfast we were told we needed reservations and yet no one even asked when we showed up. The place was mostly empty. We had problems with the wait staff. They seem quite unorganized and not trained very well. It took forever to get our order placed. The food was good, but we lost our waitress when it was time for the bill. For the Christmas Dinner, the Seared Digby Scallop was overcooked and tough. the Wagyu Beef was mediocre and not very flavorful, the Seafood Trio was rubbery and overcooked. I've had much better food at other Best Western restaurants. Too bad..

Nice spot - try and get a table outdoors if you can to enjoy the view. Great service and lots of options on the menu.

We stopped in for a drink on our way down the coast. It has a covered balcony that overlooks the harbor. Lovely view, friendly staff.

Seafoam Seafoods - Seafoam Seafoods Port Renfrew fresh fish truck

We hit the jackpot on our last day in Port Renfrew as we checked out of our cottage. The Seafoam…read moreSeafoods truck was open for business in the morning, so we were able to visit Miss Lilian. She gave us samples of pretty much everything she had to offer. I'll try to add some photos on this review, because I'm also adding this as a business to Yelp along with posting the review. You really can't get much fresher Salmon than this. Seafoam is the First Nation's community's fishing enterprise, Pacheedaht Fishing Corporation Inc. We picked one of the whole Smoked Pink Filet and a package of the Chinook Candy. The "candy" is big fresh chunks of Chinook Salmon that has been smoked and sweetened just a tad with brown sugar. It isn't too sweet, either... just the right amount. We drove from Port Renfrew two hours over to Nanaimo for the ferry, and literally opened up the Chinook Candy and ate it right out of the bag as we drove to the ferry terminal. It was one of the best things we had on our entire BC trip, too. We knocked out the Smoked Pink Filet later, and it was equally amazing. I believe the truck stops coming at the end of summer for several months in Port Renfrew, so you can look up Seafoam Seafoods online to locate other retail outlets during off-season. If you are in "Renny" during the summer season, be sure to drop in on this spot to buy fresh seafood right from the First Nations people. Get there early, because they do sell out of the most popular items first.

Fair is fair and the fare is delicious…read more Firstly, if you're a Belgium beer drinker like me, you probably already know the Trapistes Rochefort is one of the tastiest beers you can get your hands on. It's pricey here but eh, what isn't over in this area? Also, at 11.3 ABV, maybe don't have three. The clam chowder is the best I've had yet, and that tops even where I'm spending my summer. Sorry not sorry. Ordered the crab cake platter with wasabi aioli as well and it did not disappoint. Reminds me of grand-moms house. So good! Let's talk about service. Not one, but two servers taking care of lil ole me. Both so friendly. They allowed me to enjoy my beer and when I said I wanted to take my time, they honored that without rushing food or service. The ambiance is pretty casual, family friendly, and right on "the strip" so you can walk off those delicious calories you indulged in. I will be back and will be bringing a crew with me next time. Hook & Line Pub delivers fresh seafood deliciousness and a casual environment that is welcoming, friendly, and ultimately satisfying.

We ordered the seafood chowder bread bowl, onion rings and a crab melt. They had everything whipped up in 20 minutes which was great, packing of food excellent and they included napkins/ utensils which I mention as nobody seems to do that anymore! Food was really tasty! My husband loved his chowder bowl and the onion rings were great. Crab/shrimp melt was delicious and I ended up sharing with my husband as even just half was very filling. The young man at the front was very friendly and welcoming. I did see some mixed reviews on this place, particularly around service but I can tell you the food was great enough for me to not care about service!
