Service was wonderful, food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfect! The whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate was the best I've ever had.

Tucked into a nice hotel in Sooke, West Coast Grill has all the makings of a tourist trap: overpriced and underwhelming. The dinners we're confusingly designed - the fish came with fries, and soup, and coleslaw, all tucked in a wooden tray. The butternut squash was covered in arugula and goat cheese, oddly proportioned and giving the dish an overall confusing texture. Ultimately, the prices make the dishes disappointing, coming in at a minimum of $26/dish.

We came here for happy hour twice while vacationing in Sooke. The ambiance and decor is nice, it's clean and modern and nice views of the harbour. The servers were all very welcoming and friendly. We only ordered the shrimp shared plate (small portion for $30!) and garlic fries- both tasted great. Good selection of wine & beer for happy hour. It was quiet earlier in the day and filled up by 5-6pm. Nice place, would definitely go back.

Once again West Coast Grill chef Adam Guther has proven his expertise with fresh local seafood! Our group of 10, had a delightful & delicious meal with a wide tasting of the tempting menu. Appetizers included luscious crab cakes, calamari & the three cheese dip. The calamari got high praise from our out of town guests. The mushroom ravioli was rich & unctuous & satisfying. The fresh fish & chips with a side of chowder was yummy & the kids all loved the chicken & chips. We rounded off the meal with a variety of desserts: the eye popping mile high mud pie, the spectacular chocolate tart & an array of ice creams & sherbet. In addition to the restaurant, the kitchen was also catering to a very large wedding at the hotel & yet they never missed a beat in delivering a fantastic meal!

Meh. An ok place to have breakfast if you're staying at the hotel, but nothing to write home about. They do have great GF options across the board (including gluten free pasta at dinner), and many items can be altered to be made GF. Unfortunately they were out of crab when we had dinner there and the Fisherman's Bowl was pretty seafood light for what it was. Can't say the heavily dressed salad was much better. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict lacked flavor, and the potatoes were bare, and a bit soggy feeling. Finally, the bar was also quite light in terms of selection. Great spot for the views and service (you couldn't ask for more friendly or attentive staff) but wouldn't seek out the restaurant again.

Lively atmosphere and good food for a reasonable price. Both seafood dishes were very good and fresh. Many touch points from several friendly staff making sure we were well taken care of. Great friendly and timely service.

This is another case of looks can be deceiving. The place has beautiful decor and the chairs are very comfy. You'd expect first class service and cuisine, but they fell short. We ate there twice. Once for breakfast and once for the special Christmas Dinner. For breakfast we were told we needed reservations and yet no one even asked when we showed up. The place was mostly empty. We had problems with the wait staff. They seem quite unorganized and not trained very well. It took forever to get our order placed. The food was good, but we lost our waitress when it was time for the bill. For the Christmas Dinner, the Seared Digby Scallop was overcooked and tough. the Wagyu Beef was mediocre and not very flavorful, the Seafood Trio was rubbery and overcooked. I've had much better food at other Best Western restaurants. Too bad..

Right on the beach with an incredible view sits this incredible restaurant. You're greeted with a warm smile by the waitress and the amazing smell of the kitchen. We got to choose where we sat so of course, we chose a window seat, although plenty of seating options were available. Their lunch menu is easy to navigate, as it wasn't extensive but still offered options. My husband and I tried the mozzarella sticks, clam chowder, fish and chips and the club. The marinara for the mozzarella sticks was out of this world! Don't forget the cheese pull when you bite in! All perfectly seasoned. The clam chowder had a healthy amount of clams, served with oyster crackers. The consistency of the soup was perfect. The fish for the fish and chips, along with the crispy batter was the best fish we've had in a long time! Even the lemon on the side was bright and vibrant which explains the dish perfectly. The club was a wonderful traditional club with a GOOD amount of meat. The bacon added an awesome salt factor and was crispy, which is how we like it! The best part is the fact that after lunch, we only had to drive 3-4 minutes away to explore La Push Beach! Overall, the service was awesome, the food was incredible and the views were beautiful! Can't wait to come back on our next vacation!

The restaurant itself is comfortable with leather padded seats and the music was fairly muted so talking was very easy. Service isn't necessarily the most attentive or snappy but not negligent either. Took like 5-10 minutes each time to get a beer, flag for check, and no one routinely filling water, etc. I kind of them to be more responsive since there were literally only 2 other tables when we came. Food: Hot honey Brussels: Strongly recommended but it was on their specials menu so may not be available year round. The Brussels were crispy and not too bitter, it was topped with healthy amounts of pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, warmed pears, Gorgonzola, and a drizzle of honey that wasn't excessive. Fish and chips: The good of this dish is the fish. The flesh is tender, properly cooked and it comes straight from the fryer blazing hot. The breading is crisp and well adhered but a little dense and oily compared to other fried fish I've had. My major complaint however was that the crinkle cut fries had a rancid oil taste which is bitter with a slight chemical smell. This may not be a problem when you go but it was very off putting for me. The tartar sauce is also VERY dill forward and very rich without any relish so I squeezed most of my lemon in it to brighten it up and help cut the grease. Mac and Jacks African Amber beer - Delicious beer served wonderfully cold Overall, this place was a little hit and miss. We really enjoyed our Brussels appetizer and beer but the fish and chips were overall mediocre at best, even if you forgive them for the rancid oil. Prices were reasonable to slightly high: two fish and chip entrees, a beer, and a soda running about $67 w/o tip. Probably not a place I would bother trying again.

It was really crowded, but I was glad we got a table without a wait. The waitresses all seemed very polite and happy. I was going to try their famous Apple Pancake, but then saw the Raspberry Lemon Bar French Toast breakfast special. The flavor was terrific, and the texture of the French toast was the best I've ever experienced. My mom liked the look of my raspberry syrup so much, that she asked the waitress to take away her maple, and bring raspberry for her pancakes. I also tried their very popular bacon. It had great flavor, but was very dry. Next time, I'd ask for it limp. I guess the crispy bacon is really popular, but wasn't really my thing. The flavor it was so amazing, though, that I can't wait to try it again, just less cooked. The Hawaiian Sunrise mocktail tasted so much like cherry, that I couldn't taste the pineapple that much, but the hot chocolate was seriously the best hot chocolate I've ever had. It was so creamy and sweet, and just the right strength of chocolate flavor.

I'll admit I was a little skeptical at first -- it's right on the harbor and surrounded by tourist attractions, which usually screams "tourist trap." Beautiful presentation, and the blend of flavors in the dishes was both creative and bold. I had the seared tuna with fingerling potatoes and garlic tapenade- the tapenade worked perfectly with the charred veggies, and the pea shoots added a light earthy flavor. Add the gooey poached egg to the mix, and you have perfection! The merengue raspberry dessert I've renamed "Alice in Wonderland"; the crunch of the merengue, paired with the smooth mousse was lovely, and all of the varied aromatic, sweet and sour toppings made this an incredibly unique, and flavorful treat.
