Dined at The West Table last night and it was amazing! The atmosphere and ambiance felt like the dining experience in a much larger metropolitan area. Every dish (and we tried nearly every item on that night's menu) was layered with distinct flavors and was delicious! Every item was prepared by professional chefs (not line cooks). Edit: Since writing the review below I've been back for lunch a couple of times and have found the food to be consistently very good to excellent and the service and attention to detail to be good to very good. On different trips I tried the quail and bone marrow appetizers, and both were outstanding. The chicken & dumplings was very flavorful, with neat little fried dumplings, and the swordfish entree was just the best swordfish I've ever had anywhere. And on both trips we received attentive, friendly, expert service. I think we just got unlucky with the service on our first trip. At this point I'm looking for reasons to return. For my money The West Table is the best fine dining in Lubbock. First, let me say I really want The West Table to succeed, and not just because Lubbock has a shortage of fine dining options. This restaurant could help revitalize our sad downtown area in an important way, too. That being said... The atmosphere at The West Table is comfortable, upscale and modern but not stuffy, and the food and drink is very good to excellent. The service and attention to detail is poor to fair. Upon being seated we placed a cocktail and appetizer order. The delicious goat cheese tart was delivered before my drink - their special Oak Leaf Sazerac, which I enjoyed immensely - finally came about 20 minutes after we sat down, but my wife's cocktail was delayed because the bar had run out of cranberry juice (at 7 on a Saturday?). Detail note: The water glasses come with plastic straws that seem cheap and out of place at an otherwise smart table setting. We placed our dinner order and before long we received our salads - one house and one caesar - accompanied by fresh baked bread with herbed butter. The salads were big and crisp, and I really enjoyed the flavor of my caesar dressing. The bread was good, but we found the butter a little salty. As we were enjoying our salads, our entrees came. This is a big no-no, and is really Service 101. A manager came by a few moments later and was appropriately horrified, and she eventually had our waiter offer us complimentary desserts, but the fact that it happened at all was pretty disappointing. Detail note: The four-top next to ours had vacated not long after we arrived, but it took the staff at least fifteen minutes to clear and reset it. The entrees themselves were very good. My wife said her beef short ribs entree was the best food she's had at any restaurant in Lubbock. My filet was flavorful and cooked properly - medium rare - but was a little dry for my taste (always a risk with a lean cut like a filet, I know). My garlic mashed potatoes were lumpy enough, creamy with a savory edge and my roasted asparagus was perfectly cooked, with a unique smoky flavor. We really enjoyed our desserts. My wife raved about her cheesecake covered in chocolate sauce with almonds, and my bread pudding, with its rich, creamy sauce, was so good I can't wait to have it again. And I'm sure I will before long. Dinner for two with drinks, appetizers, wine and dessert at The West Table could cost close to $200. For those prices, Lubbock diners will expect service to go with the ambience and food quality. Here's hoping they make some improvements and I can bump my rating after my next visit. read more

I came here about a month ago and I really enjoyed taking my girlfriend (at that time) for a birthday dinner here. I knew I was going to pay a lot when I came here but I was surprised at how affordable it was. Also, they have excellent food and drink selection. Also, I tried there meatloaf ( I hate meatloaf) and I loved it. It was sooo good and the side that came with it was soo good. Our server was very nice and helpful when we came. Located in the Pioneer condo building this restaurant is sleek, simple and modern. I went here for lunch recently and it wasn't busy. We started out with the Crab hushpuppies. Really tasty! I had the Southern fried chicken with green beans, mashed potatoes and bacon gravy. Everything was amazing! The chicken was crispy and moist. The pieces were smaller than typical fast food chicken. I think that's a good thing (no steroids lol). The mashed potatoes were buttery and flavorful without gravy. My friend ordered the NOLA Shrimp & Grits. I tried it and liked it alot. The grits were very cheesy. She thought the worcestershire butter sauce was a bit strong but overall it was a great dish. We had carrot cake for dessert. It wasn't too sweet, just right. The service was attentive and polite without being snooty. I will definitely go back! read more

Drove to Lubbock to try this restaurant with my wife. Upon arrival the place was open and inviting. Ordered some croquettes and salad, those were good. For the entree my wife ordered braised short rib pasta which was excellent. I ordered a fish dish with mushroom risotto which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I ordered a glass of prosecco and made a perfect pairing with my food. Desert was a peach bread pudding, apprehensive about the combination at first but it was simply delicious. Had a nice espresso with a small glass of Baileys Irish Cream--perfect way to end a wonderful meal. My wife and I went here for dinner last night 2/16/18. Everything about our experience was first class. The restaurant is beautiful. It has a modern, industrial feel and although it is different than most places in Lubbock, it somehow does not feel out of place. Our server was very attentive and we both felt the pace of service was perfect for a nice meal. Our server encouraged us to mix and match off the dinner menu which we did. My wife had a lemon chicken over risotto which was delicious. I couldn't decide because everything looked great, so I told my server that I would have whatever the kitchen chose to serve me. I was served a drunken Thai noodle dish with a Ribeye steak. This is something I would have never ordered for myself, and it was Fantastic! The steak was cooked perfectly! Had dinner at The West Table last night. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, as well as the staff. Our server Ellen was bubbly and organized. The food was also good, especially my partner's order of Chicken Fried ELK, which sounded fascinating and tasted delicious. My entree was slightly disappointing, especially regarding the portion size as compared to the price. The biggest issue though was my comfort level. The chairs were flimsy and slid around on the sealed concrete floor, and the noise level was extremely high because of the lack of carpet or other sound-proofing. I couldn't really have a conversation because of how loud it was in the room. Good food, great atmosphere, but a star knocked off for comfort. Hands down favorite place to eat in Lubbock. The food is always exceptional. The wait staff is attentive and personable and rarely allow a water glass to venture empty. Tonight I had the Quail appetizer, beet salad, and ratatouille coupled with the Old Fashioned Campground (a perfect combination of whiskey and bitters complete with everything but the fire pit). We live in Lubbock and its Graduation Weekend! Busy life = no reservations made for our 22nd Anniversary. I called and spoke to Tanner. He was VERY professional and polite BUT, Totally Booked due to graduation and would call if they had a cancellation. Long Story short.....he called at 7:45 as we were leaving our House. We get there at 8:15 and our table is ready! The Service was flawless, atmosphere reminds me of a restaurant in Downtown Asheville, NC, the Ribeye was cooked perfectly over the potatoes and the Butterfish was flavorful. Perfect Wine pairing suggested by the waitress and the water glasses were never empty. I do want to say, I did NOT mention to Tanner or anyone in the restaurant that we were on our Anniversary date. We received the best Service as if everyone knew we were there for a special occasion! And....on one of their busiest nights! Not our first time here and definitely not our last! read more

They say that third time is a charm. It took 3 times to get a reservation here and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. Was it an off night for the kitchen staff? Maybe the chef was not in house? We were sat right on time and the host was wonderful. The server was right on the table and drinks were served. The appetizer of bone marrow was served and let me tell you that it made me want more. My friends salad had dirt in it but that can happen anywhere. Mine was fine. The problem came when dinner was served. I ordered the short rib and he ordered the pan seared duck breast. I knew as soon as it came that his duck was overcooked so I decided to give him my short rib. No matter. I tried to eat the duck but (I never do this) had to spit the rubbery skin out. The risotto was cold and I was done. His short rib was overcooked and dry, wadding up in your mouth. The server seemed to shrink but the host tried to make it all right. I'm sorry but we were done at this point. It seems to me that most people don't u understand food but we are both professional chefs and will not go back. I don't think they really care. read more

Loved the upscale feeling of this restaurant tucked into downtown Lubbock! We truly felt like we were in New Orleans or somewhere in the south! Our cocktails were great, the pear Collins was delicious! We ordered oysters two ways, some grilled and some with champagne mignonette and they were both so great. We also had the grilled quail as a starter, recommended by our server which was probably the best quail we've ever had. The wedge salad was AWESOME! For our mains my husband had the veal porterhouse (be warned if you're not used to veal it will look like a giant porkchop at first cut!!) and I had the snapper with mushroom risotto (the mushroom risotto made the whole dish!) our server was great and knowledgeable. For desert we shared the peach bread pudding with bourbon sauce, mmmm! Overall west table is a place not to be missed! read more

The waiter, a very young and not very experienced male told us he forgot to enter one of the orders. So my wife sat there and waited 20 minutes, until my daughter and I finished our food and then she was brought a very over done and cold pork chop. The entire evening was ruined. The waiter said he was sorry but did not offer any excuses. We asked to talk to the owner, Cameron West and he said basically TOUGH. McDonalds trains their employees better than Cameron does. Our table ordered calamari for the appetizer (which the server said would be enough) but it was a really small portion, not enough for the 4 of us.
