So yes I am the weirdo who goes to an Italian restaurant and has a wedge salad. But here's the thing. I love a wedge salad, and rarely do you see a wedge salad on a menu. And rarely is it done well when it is on the menu. It's a simple affair and it requires crisp fresh lettuce, tasty bacon, and fresh blue cheese. This one was well done. I very much enjoyed it. We split the fried calamari as an appetizer. It was the large ring frozen kind but it still hit the spot as much as any deep fried appy does. All in all we enjoyed the meal.

Solid Italian restaurant. Nothing particularly special but solid. We had fried calamari which was the frozen breaded kind but it was tasty even so. The sauce was very good. I had chicken parm and that was very good. Large portion of chicken and pasta was tasty. The atmosphere was very nice.

    Cooked days before ribs. Really

Having been here several times in the past and having a 50th surprise party here we were looking forward to eating here again. Place was remodeled a bit and does look very nice that's why it's getting 2 stars. They changed the menu and it's definitely not anything like it used to be. It was bigger with a variety of choices now it's smaller and has a very bar menu feeling. From the start I could just tell it wasn't going to be a good experience. The server was very nice and did try hard but was completely inexperienced and couldn't answer not one question we had. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria and she wasn't sure if we could. She had to ask. Finally it shows up. It was ok. We see other tables with bread so we ask for bread since they didn't bring any. They bring it. Now we ask for butter because they forgot it. We order a few appetizers and salads that show up and we're just ok. To even try them we had to ask for silverware because there was none on the table. I ordered the cowboy steak for dinner. I ask if it's a ribeye- she has to ask. Yes it's a bone in rib-eye. Perfect please cook it black and blue. What's that. I will have to ask. She comes back out and says the chef knows how to cook it like that but would rather I order something else for fear it comes out wrong and I send it back. Omg really. What chef says that. Come on. Needless to say when it comes out it's not black and blue and there is no bone. $38 for a below average steak. I mean can you be more wrong. 2 others in our group ordered the ribs. They were definitely cooked days before and just heated up and drowned in sauce to hide the dryness of them. Another had the mahi-mahi. Dry and flavorless. It just goes on. Pirogies ordered by someone else were average at best. We finished up had a quick coffee and no dessert for fear we would be disappointed again and we leave. It's a shame because we used to like it here but sorry to say we will not be back. He needs to train everyone in the place actually how to do their jobs. Even the runners need help. When they brought out our entrees the appetizer plates were still on the table and they actually stood there with our plates looking at us and had no idea what to do. I get its tough times out there and we were very patient and understanding but enough is enough. Good luck.

Not impressed by the food or service at The Village Inn. I say outside with a friend which is a small little deck patio. Nachos were ok, I can name a dozen places where they are better. There wasn't much meat and they weren't plated nicely either. Margarita pizza was super disappointing. I think the picture says it all. The pork chop dinner was lacking flavors. The service was pretty slow for it not being very busy. Also the beers on tap were served in a small plastic cup which I didn't like. Plenty of better places in Wayne to visit.

Tucked in a corner of Wayne which I've never before visited despite having resided in Wayne for 15 years. A friend had a Groupon and asked us to join. Entrance and bar area seem nice and appears bigger than it actually is (large wall mirror). Bar seemed to have a decent mixed crowd. Greeted by a friendly hostess and seated immediately. Waitress was pleasant, helpful and attentive. Olive bread and dipping oils were tasty. Martinis from the bar were good; liked the small shakers which offered a top off after sipping. Food was good - salad was good but was missing the nuts advertised on the menu. Tasty French Onion soup. Soft shell crabs deep fried and tasty, although the oil may not have been hot enough as they seemed a bit oily. Other table guests had good dishes too (see photos). Everything was solid but none were outstanding. Deserts were good - notable were the mini jelly donuts, served warm. Cappuccino was extra weak. The waitress re-did them without a shrug but while better, still weak. Decor needs a serious refresh. Rustic is cool but rustic and off white is odd. Convenient if you live in Wayne but wouldn't travel from afar to visit. Local Wayne folks should give it a try.

Great spot! Went with a big group tried a bit of everything. Apps were all tasty. The Torpedo Shrimp and the meatballs were the highlight. Had the cowboy steak which was delicious but huge. The Chicken Pete tasted amazing but I probably would have needed a crash cart if I ordered one for myself. The place just had a facelift and I'm digging the rustic farmhouse vibe. Had a drink at the bar before and after dinner. Try an old fashioned, they smoke the glass and everything. In fact have 2.

We Went to this restaurant this past sat on a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. Called ahead hours before for a table of 4 at 7:30 and I was accommodated. We ended up arriving a few minutes early and were seated immediately. The menu was full of specials from appetizers to desserts and I wanted to order most of them. We ended up getting the meatballs, sesame chicken and torpedo shrimp. I have to say they were all delicious and the portions were much bigger than average. The meatballs were so delicious I could have just eaten them alone, but I tried both other apps that were also very good. Our waitress was so busy with all the tables, but handled every one like a pro. She was super friendly and never lacked attention to detail. The owner Chef John was constantly walking around to make sure everything was right and helped answering any questions on the menu for us and others that inquired. House salads arrived a short time later and they were just very tasty. Fresh greens topped with a nice light dressing. When our entrées arrived I knew that we ordered the perfect dishes that my family loves. The food was cooked great, Plated nice and tasted awesome. We will definitely be returning to the Village inn again. I highly recommend taking a trip here or stopping in if your a local. We drove an hr to get here and it was well worth every penny. Menu prices were very reasonable and portions were above average.

Then we got our appetizers, the shellfish tower, the meat, the shrimps, the crab cakes. Then we had salads and soups and got the lobster bisque, the Caesar salad, the wedge chopped with bacon, and all of it was so amazing, I was stuffed by this point but we were just getting started. The filet mignon was by far the best steak made there, but the Ny strip was also really good. The Mac and cheese was the best side ever, but the rice was also good and so was the asparagus. For dessert the bananas foster was the absolute best but the other desserts (chocolate lava cake and creme brulee were also amazing) All in all this was the best night with the best friends and the best food, the drinks were also always good and the servers kept them coming. I had never before heard of this place (despite being the expert epicurean that I sometimes like to…read morepretend that I am) before my oldest friend's girlfriend contacted me and said they were planning a surprise birthday party for my friend. Was I in? Of course. Sear House Grill is located below my least favorite snarl of confusing, dangerous highways and traffic in NJ (namely, where Rt 80, Rt 46 and Rt 23 all interconnect and intertwine), but my drive to the restaurant was relatively easy, coming in on Rt. 46 E., past the Willowbrook Mall, and heading straight down Rt. 23 S. for about a half mile, safely bypassing, for the most part, that agita-inducing traffic. Sear House is located on the right side of the highway, just over the river and a stone's throw away from the AMC theatre in Wayne. (I'm reminded that the Meadowbrook Nightclub used to be a little further down Rt. 23 in Cedar Grove. My father had been there a few times, back in the days when they featured Billie Holiday and Anita O'Day. I remember seeing a picture of Lou Costello enjoying himself there in the company of corrupt Paterson political boss Joe Bozzo. The Meadowbrook was still open when I was a young man, but I never ventured inside, as the concerts they were featuring then usually involved "artists" like Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, and Billy Idol. Definitely not my musical "cups of tea." Anyway...) There was valet parking, which I'm not used to, and not entirely comfortable with, but what were my other options? Once inside the restaurant, I was directed to the back "wine room," where the party was to be held. Despite my lack of interior decorating skills, it was, even to this unsophisticated plebeian, a beautiful room. Spacious, with discreetly placed but illuminating lights, it's a perfect place for a surprise party, or any party. Speaking of plebeian, the prices here are definitely for the patrician class, those with much disposable income to spend. Perusing their on-line menu, I noted that onion soup is $15, iceberg wedge salad is $18, a side of hash browns cost $14 (HASH BROWNS!?! Yep..), a cheeseburger is $25, and so forth and so on. Fortunately, everything had been taken care of by those who arranged the party, and guests were able to choose from a fixed menu. After my friend had arrived, and pleasantries had been exchanged among the guests (a group made up of 99.9 % family, and me, although my friend's sister, whom I've known since her infancy, said, "Ed's family," which was nice for an insecure neurotic like me to hear, and very much appreciated), we sat down to appetizers. Shrimp in a kind of glazed sauce, meatballs, calamari, a superlative antipasto platter (I stayed away from the hot peppers and stuck to tomatoes and a thick wedge or 2 of fresh mozzarella). For the main course, or entree, we could choose between steak, chicken parmigiana, and salmon. I thought briefly about steak, but went for the chicken parmigiana instead, and I was glad I did. My plate was served with a sizeable, delicious portion of chicken parmigiana, along with a creamy risotto (I'm not the biggest fan of risotto...generally speaking, I can take it or leave it alone...but the portion I had this particular night was exceptional), and fresh vegetables. Topped off with a velvety carrot cake for dessert. Ample portions of stellar food...what more could 1 ask for? How about an open bar and complimentary "airplane" bottles of Vodka? I stayed away from the alcohol, but the servers kept me in full glasses of water and Coke. I ended with a cup of black coffee to see me through on my drive back home. No alcohol for me to worry about, but I'm not a kid, my stamina is not what it used to be, and I could feel the beginnings of a "food coma" starting to work on me. So... home to bed. Obviously, what I experienced wasn't what 1 might experience walking in off the street with a friend or significant other, but based on what I did experience, this is a 1st-rate restaurant serving delicious, expertly prepared food. Prices are hefty but then the cliche "You pay for what you get" has never been truer than it is these days, unfortunately. For the exorbitant money, you get a 1st-rate dining experience, Even the restrooms were clean, roomy, and private. I do have to note, in passing, that in talking about the whole experience with my friend later on, I mentioned that in the past the open bar would have been an irresistable temptation to the addicted wastrel that I once was. My friend said, "Well, a lot of the young people there did get f"cked up. That friendly young man you were talking to ended up in the bathroom, throwing up." "Ah, well...that's too bad. But...he's young yet." "We were there once, weren't we?" "Yes, we were." Sometimes the memories evoked when we celebrate the milestones we pass by in our often painful, occasionally joyful, journey through life can be very much bittersweet ones. Happy birthday, old friend! Sear House Grill? Highly recommended.
