Lorna made me feel so comfortable and I felt my nerves leaving my body immediately. She listened to what I wanted and added her recommendations and then worked her magic. At one point I told her to just do whatever she wanted because I fully trusted her. I asked her to clean up my layers while keeping the length and adding some curtain bangs. My hair stylist takes the time to understand exactly what I'm after and instead of trying to alter my look (which is pretty typical in NYC), he enhances what I already have, and makes a better looking version of me. I politely emailed the salon asking if I could come back to have it adjusted, fully intending to tip for the correction. The response I received felt curt and dismissive, which left a bad impression, but I decided to let it go and simply try a different stylist next time. Unfortunately, the color service was also disappointing. While the shade was close to what I wanted, the application itself was uneven. At one point, another stylist had to mix more dye because there wasn't enough prepared initially, but the second batch clearly wasn't the same tone. As a result, my roots ended up noticeably lighter than the rest of my hair, despite it being intended as one uniform color. Now, two months later, I tried booking another appointment for a trim and highlights. I called multiple times over three days with no answer and also sent an email that went unanswered. Out of curiosity, I called from a Google number, and while they still didn't answer, that was the only number they called back. I genuinely liked Shizen for years, which makes this experience especially disappointing. But after the poor service, dismissive communication, and now being seemingly ignored altogether, I'll gladly be taking my business elsewhere.

*************BEWARE OF THIS VENDOR********* **********************SCAM!!****************** I was initially so excited to purchase this hair because of all of the glamourus photos I've seen via Instagram. I knew better than to fall for the big hype and marketing tactics that these hair company's play just to get consumers to purchase over priced hair. From the beautiful models to even Yandy Smith promoting the hair I honestly was caught up in the hype. I seen that they were offering a student discount last Sunday so I decided to go ahead and purchase some hair. When I went to the boutique I was excited because I finally was going to get the glamourus hair that I wanted and I was ready to invest my money. My total came up to $435 with the discount applied. I purchased 3 bundles, 20,22,24 and an 18 inch lace frontal for $170. I didn't even second guess my purchase I just went ahead and cashed out. At the boutique I did feel the hair and it seemed to be ok, the frontal was beautiful so I was just so happy about that. The next day I planned on getting my hair done, so I had to bring the exemptions with me to work. I was super excited to show my co workers the hair that I got, they too knew how excited I was! I showed them and they were initially dismayed.. And couldn't believe that I had paid so much money for the significantly poor quality of the hair. That's when I realized that this hair was of no good. I had my thoughts that something wasn't right with the hair, but with my co workers saying the same thing it was just confirmation. There wasn't anything that I could do at the time because I had already booked my appointment and my stylist was leaving in a few days. I decided to just keep the hair because on the receipt it says in all caps "all sales final, no returns or refunds" which was rather alarming because they must have a lot of unsatisfied consumers. When I went to my stylist that same night, she asked me how much I paid for the hair and I told her and she wasn't happy and knew that I really had been ripped off. She told me that she's seen better quality hair from AliExpress and that sometimes if hair is that expensive it necessarily doesn't mean that it's good hair. As she was installing the hair, she notices excessive shedding and had to continuously brush through the hair because it was getting very matted and tangled up. The hair is honestly disgusting... Absolutely nasty!! The hair honestly feels like a synthetic blend, very cheap! The hair keeps popping when I comb through it! Non-stop shedding, it's so rough and coarse and smells like corn chips. The hair is absolutely shameful. They purchase the hair from their suppliers and they mark up the prices immensely! This hair should not start at $100 for a bundle. I'm embarrassed to say that I've spent almost $500 on terrible weave that I can't return. I'm a college student and $500 is a lot for me! I trusted this hair company and didn't expect this as an end result. Truly disappointed and dissatisfied. They honesty should be ashamed of themselves. I wish that I could upload photos and videos to show this matter weave that I literally got installed last night. I have to wear a hat and put my hair in a bun today, not exactly the hair style that I want to rock. Ladies, this is my honest review, I believe in spending money on beautiful hair because it's so worth it. This hair company should be SHUT DOWN for lying and selling falsified virgin hair. I love the vanity box!!!! I always have a wonderful experience with the employees in the Brooklyn location. Hey are always on point and go above and beyond to help. I always am so indecisive and I am so appreciative of Kadicia and Onikas help. Kadicia always assists and helps me decide which choices to make while still tending to her other customers in the store. Onika and Kadichia are truly amazing young ladies and you are VERY LUCKY to have her representing your company. I travel an hour and a half only to shop at the vanity box. As an avid shopper of the vanity box Brooklyn this experience has made me even more impressed with the quality of the sales associates in your store. I've only had wonderful experiences in the Brooklyn location. Your entire team is awesome! Btw you guys should have more pictures of the regular people that buy your hair. Normal clients matter too! When people ask me where did i get my bundles from, i proudly say #VANITYBOX! They have great service and don't just try to sell u hair they make sure your getting the hair that you want and when you want it for. i have gotten 3 different types of bundles since 2016 from them and have successfully achieved many different hairstyles with 2 of them. (I have 26,24,22 Curly Bundles that i will update when i Install them when ready :)) I bleached and died the hair i used a couple of times, cut it, curled it, made wigs took them apart, did ponytails, i have done EVERYTHING with this hair and it is still beautiful, strong and non shedding. I initially bought 3 bundles from TVB (the Harlem location) in late March of this year. I was a bit worried because I saw quite a few negative reviews AFTER I bought the hair. I spent nearly $400 so I was scared but I got it installed anyway. And omg...I love this hair. I have probably put the hair through hell but it still remained amazing! I have bleached it, I went every other week to the Dominican Salon for a wash and set for two months. I have curled and straightened it. I have had wild times with my fiance with it lol Everyone kept complimenting me on this hair. I had it in for two and a half months then took it out. I just re-installed it (after dying it black) on Friday. And the hair is still full and looks so much like my hair people keep asking me :) Definitely will be my go to hair boutique! read more

Vanity Box has the best hair I've ever had in my entire weave wearing experience. I was hesitant to buy because of all the bad reviews but they are not true at all!!! Let me start off by saying I purchased the 18" 20" 22" with a 14" closure bundle from the Harlem store, and I am in love . Yes, it sheds a little, but people forget to realize that so does regular hair, and I didn't even seal my wefts. The original curl pattern was gorgeous and when I wash the hair , the curls pop right back out. The closure is even holding up amazingly! this hair was nothing compared to my last hair that i had. I heard so much about the vanity box and I just had to try it for myself. I brought indian natural wavy and the frontal was brazilian wavy. At first I was skeptical because with the other hair I brought, the frontal didn't match and they just lied to me just to get my money. This was completely different and it blended soooo well. They didn't put any products in my hair like I thought they would, they didn't even put rollers in my hair. When she "deep conditioned" my hair there was barley any conditioner and she didn't sit me under the dryer long enough. I dont think, no I know, I won't be coming back here. It was then that I learned that her and her husband bought the salon. 2nd time I came she told me that they weren't accepting loyalty cards granted mine was already half way punched. The new owner told me, I can finish my loyalty card and pay $25 to get my hair done mind you I was paying $20 to get my hair done. The third encounter with her she's still on the phone yelling at someone, then her son is there so she's screaming even more. When it comes time to pay, she told me I have to pay $30 to get my hair done and that I can't use my loyalty card even though I have more punches left. As much as I love my beautician and have been going to her for over 15 years, I'm going to another place. This new owner is insensitive, and I'm pretty sure she's going to lose more customers. Still upset that the original owners couldn't say anything because I was so loyal to them smh. This place deserves 0 stars. Customer service went all the way down; prices went all the way up!!!

I came in for a simple wash and trim, yet I left feeling as though my hair was drier and more brittle than when I arrived. The haircut was uneven, and I was surprised by the trimming technique, as my hair was not sectioned in the way I would have expected for a precise and balanced cut. Beyond the service itself, I found the atmosphere to be unwelcoming. From the moment I arrived, there was very little warmth or friendliness. I did not feel particularly comfortable in the space, and the interactions felt cold and impersonal. Rather than feeling valued as a client, I often felt self-conscious and out of place. I had ever desire to walk out before my consultations and wish I had listened to my gut instinct. It would have been better to lose the $125 deposit, than to sit and endure hair damage, peculiar personalities and discomfort. One experience that stood out to me occurred while I was checking out. Several staff members were gathered at the front desk discussing a customer who had just left the salon. The customer had just paid and was ahead of me in line. The conversation centered around the customer's dissatisfaction with her service and whether she should be allowed to return. As a first-time client, hearing that discussion was uncomfortable and left a negative impression. What disappointed me most was the lack of focus on actual hair care. In my experience, the salon appears to specialize more in color services and creating the appearance of healthy hair through gloss treatments rather than maintaining the health and integrity of the hair itself. During my appointment, I even had to request additional moisture products because my hair felt dry throughout the process. For $250, I expected exceptional service, attention to detail, and a welcoming environment. Instead, I left unhappy with the condition of my hair, disappointed with the cut, and uncomfortable with the overall experience. Ironically, despite my dissatisfaction, I still tipped both the stylist and shampoo assistant because I respect people's time and effort. Looking back, however, I do not feel that the experience justified either the price or the gratuity. If you're seeking color services, your experience may be different. However, based on my visit for a wash and trim, I cannot recommend this salon. The service, atmosphere, and results did not meet the expectations that come with a premium price point. I wish I had read all of these other yelp reviews before booking as a new client. Like the other clients, I'm sure I will get blocked and banned from coming back to the salon but that's perfectly okay because you will never see me again. New clients BEWARE. Book at your own risk!! I wish I had booked with the gentleman MarQ because he seems to have a pleasant attitude but I think his hair cut/trims start at $450 which is INSANE. This place is very weird.

It is very close to the Borough Hall train station, close to Jay Street- Metrotech and various other buses and public forms of transport. In fact, I thought the salon was a general spa as opposed to a salon suite of different hairdressers and beauty services. I am used to this type of establishment because I had a hairstylist who worked in a similar space when I lived outside of NYC. There are various ways to enter. My hairstylist gave me a code to enter and you can either call for the stylist to get you up or you can get a QR code. The lobby to the salons are on the first floor while the actual booths are on the second floor. There are stairs and an elevator. There are multiple couches and comfy benches on the second floor so you can wait for your appointment. There are stations for coffee and tea that my stylist told me to take advantage of. There is artwork all over and the color scheme makes it not sterile but not too bright. There is a vending machine onsite but since the location is close to many eateries (chopt is next door) you don't have to worry about access. I had a great time with my stylist Lilian. She came on time. She asked me questions about my desires and goals and gave me recommendations that I can use in my free time. I look forward to using her services in the future.

I am in the process of growing my hair and preserving my curl pattern and communicated this ad nauseam and felt understood and heard. Acknowledging that I switched up a bit during the process, the team quickly pivoted. The owner stepped in to rewash my hair, another stepped in for a trim and Jammie pressed my hair TO THE GODS! The silk press: This was the silkiest and most bone straight silk press I've ever gotten. My hair was shiny, smelled great, and was super light and airy. I generally struggle to keep a silk press more than a week, this silk press lasted a full month. I was quite weary over time that my hair would not revert back. It was just too straight! Got my silk press on 11/7 and washed my hair on 12/8 and my curls immediately reverted back with minimal heat damage! I will definitely be returning again and of course encourage folks to be wary with any heat services but would recommend Sew!

As a business owner I think taking constructive criticism is vital and normal for the business to improve and not for the owner to bash a client who chooses to write a negative review on yelp for their service that they were not happy with. I also feel it's unprofessional to throw the race card in and say that it's truly sad what my black people do. Shawanda if I were not black and was another race you would have not made this statement. This has nothing to do with race, tearing each other down, or exploiting the business on yelp, it has something to do with the quality of service that I received that was it nothing personal or deep about it. I think my review was pretty fair, mild, and honest and I should be able to write if I received poor service without underlying tone in responses back from the owner. So should anyone else. Shawanda I hope you reconsider carefully how you respond to negative reviews about your establishment. It's only for improvement. I tried to contact the salon via email with the same pictures I have on yelp of my burnt hair way before I wrote the review but no one ever responded.
