I felt a little nervous going in for a haircut, because let's be real when do we ever feel confident about any haircut. Lorna made me feel so comfortable and I felt my nerves leaving my body immediately. She listened to what I wanted and added her recommendations and then worked her magic. At one point I told her to just do whatever she wanted because I fully trusted her. I asked her to clean up my layers while keeping the length and adding some curtain bangs. I came to this salon as a first time customer, and was super excited to get my hair cut after covid and try this place out. I was called the morning of my appointment and rushed to view an email "unless my appointment would be cancelled." Driving from 1.5 hours away, and being given this email *2 hours before my appointment received the email at 10:30 am with a 12:45 appointment and was told that they had my incorrect email prior, have zero missed calls and zero voicemails* , I rushed out the door. With it raining heavily on the highway, there was a lot of traffic and I got delayed for my appointment. I pulled up to the salon, and they not only refused to see me, but turned their backs away from me in the window, and I was told over the phone that I would be charged a full 120.00 service fee for arriving behind *due to a situation which was out of my control. And now I'm being called entitled by the owner. Would understand if it was fees applied to a future booking, as nothing in their website COVID policy states that this is not an option.* Let me also note that I tried to call multiple times *at least 3x* before my appointment time started to notify them but their phone was off the hook, so I had to email. I told them I only needed a light trim, could skip the blowout, etc. but they said no, and refused my business. They then proceeded to book me for another appointment and I asked if they could help apply some credit to the next appointment. Again was refused. *Even though there's no a policy in place that says this is not an option. I had my lawyer look over it as well to confirm.* *I had pulled up to the salon to enter and they called my phone as I was outside to cancel. I was in my car and waved politely, and am being told that made the staff "uncomfortable" by even showing up? I had an appointment! I wasn't even allowed to walk in and discuss a rebooking with them. I was super polite about it and gave multiple opportunities to amend the situation. Still waiting for this to be amended, but not holding out any hope here.* Now I just got a notification about my next appointment being cancelled (without me asking to cancel it). *The salon assumed, and is now stating they don't want my business because I'm not 100% happy with how things went down. I wouldn't want them to cut my hair now anyhow, I'm very particular with who touches my head, and wouldn't trust them after this event.* *I asked to speak to the owner to resolve this peacefully and was denied. Courtney I know you are seeing this.. would love to hear from you - please call me to resolve this peacefully.* This place is rude, unprofessional, and I would never recommend going here *if you value good business ethics, this place is not for you.* Worst customer service ever. *I tried to do a good thing in supporting a small business in a difficult time, and I'm being called entitled by the owner multiple times. Courtney, the owner, responded very promptly to a request for an appointment and was incredibly accommodating when it came to booking. Nicole has been cutting my hair for over a year and recently started coloring my hair as well. Rarely have I found a hairstylist who a) really listens and whose vision aligns with my own and b) styles my hair so effortlessly! I leave with relaxed, beach-y waves each time which is so preferable to the volume-heavy blowouts I've gotten in the past. Nicole also took a leap with me and gave me bangs last year, which she has kept manicured between cuts for free for several months. It means I started stopping by to see her once every few weeks rather than once every few months. I feel so taken care of so I truly get excited to visit each and every time. Nicole and the rest of the staff are all fantastic. The salon's COVID-19 precautions are unmatched. I'd watched them roll out their new procedures for weeks leading up to their reopening on Instagram and knew it would be safe to spend that extended time indoors. Honestly there was no hesitation. Temperature check, hand-washing, sanitizing the wash sink/chair down after each guest (there were only 2 others seated many feet away when I was in), partitions between each client, etc- it's probably one of the cleanest places in Williamsburg and I was happy to return when they opened this week. Kinloch is one of several businesses in the area that has made the experience of living in the neighborhood so great. They're really putting in the work to be able to continue that. No matter what I ask for, long or short, it comes out perfect. If you are trying to decide whether it is safe to come here during COVID, my opinion is yes, definitely. I have been a Kinloch client for several years now. Just had my first pandemic-era cut with Lorna and wanted to report on the new procedures. I felt very safe given the new equipment Courtney & Co invested in to protect the health of staff and clients. I went to kinloch for a color correction and a beautiful hair cut and style! My first stop was with Juliana aka Jules for color. She blended in a richer version of my natural color with my brassy blond ends to a beautiful rich chocolate brown. She was very sweet and did an amazing job of my hair! I have got so many compliments on the color and I will be maintaining my color with her moving forward. She took my complexion, hair texture, personal style and personality in account for the color decisions. I appreciated her honestly and how she was dedicated to making sure I was happy with my hair when I left! My second stop was with Shannon for a haircut. I showed her a photo and told her my overall goal was to really have the hair look healthy. She did the nicest hair cut I've ever had. This is a beautiful salon that has given me my best cuts. I have a lot of hair that's wavy, and it can get pretty heavy and annoying. Most salons don't listen to what I want (short layers!), but McKenzie understood! My hair is so much more manageable now. I also love that the sinks here actually comfortable! I've been to so many salons where my neck is killing me after. Here it's the relaxing experience it is meant to be! It is expensive for my taste, but I've yet to find a great haircut for a better price so I'll take it! I also love the way they style my hair with a natural looking but polished wave. Great experience at Kinloch for the second time now. I followed Natalie from her previous salon to this one because she's the best. Honestly best blonde specialist out there. I got a double process and it seriously looks so natural and healthy, the entire thing with a haircut took about 2 hours. She listens carefully to what you want and also gives advice. I have very fine hair and Natalie did a great job with my haircut as well, to give it more volume. Im super happy with the results and it was a pleasant experience and they were very professional. Them following all COVID guidelines after being closed for 4 months definitely makes me feel so much better about this "new norm". They're taking all precautions like checking temps, having everyone wash hands upon arrival, contactless payment, sanitization of each station after every client, partitions, and only three clients at a time in the salon. Nicole cut my hair and after receiving terrible cuts and services at other salons, this was a breath of fresh air. She's been doing my balayage for about a year now and I've never been happier with the results. She blends out my roots like no other, making the grow out look great and the look really easy to maintain. I've been coloring my naturally dark brown to a medium blonde with a full head of balayage about every 3 months for, so I need color that has legs. She always insists on seeing a picture, even for tone, which I very much appreciate because it means we're both always on the same page with expectations and results. Me & my partner are regulars at Kinloch and really appreciate the efforts Courtney has gone to to make the space safe and her clients feel comfortable in this time. It shows a complete lack of understanding and perspective. I've only visited the salon once but I know I'll definitely keep coming here for my hair. I didn't make an appointment but Courtney and Jessie squeezed me in for their last spot on a Saturday when I only called 30 min ahead. I've been used to getting cold treatments from stylists at other salons in the city but both Courtney and Jessie were super sweet and friendly. I was offered rosé and magazines as soon as I sat down. I have super thick, long hair so Courtney ran out of my hair dye (twice!) but she was very professional and mixed more batches without batting an eye. Even though I was the last one in the salon, I didn't feel rushed and Jessie was very detailed with my haircut and gave me just the right amount of layers. She gave me a full blowout with curls and I got tons of compliments on my hair that night. They also have a great selection of R+Co hair products which they also use on their clients. I've been getting my hair colored by Courtney for the last 6 years so it was a no brainier that I would follow her when she decided to open her own salon in Brooklyn. Courtney is extremely talented at what she does and I never leave a visit with her disappointed! I often don't even need to tell her what I want I just say "I trust you" and she knows exactly what to do. My hair always looks natural and fun and I get a lot of compliments on the color. My visit with Courtney at Kinloch yesterday was nothing less than what I've come to expect. The salon is right in the heart of Williamsburg and has a great old school vibe with exposed brick, tiled floors, and a refurbished vintage sink. I came here from Manhattan for highlights but after speaking with Courtney she seemed very unsure of herself and was only capable of doing the same type of highlight on every single client. She lacks creativitiy and is not able to do what clients ask for but only the variation of highlights she knows how to do which is very limited. She has a one track mind and was not open to working together to achieve what I was asking for which was simple bronde highlights on brown hair. Pretty standard I think. I later went to another salon who understood me perfectly and did exactly what I asked for so I'm still not sure what she was confused about. I ended up skipping the highlights and just doing a cut with Lorna who did a decent job and seemed to be pretty nice. Aside from that don't even think of getting there early because I got there early and was made to stand outside in the freezing cold for 30 minutes when only 3 people were inside the salon. I spent years searching for this kind of relationship and trust in New York and after a few episodes of tears and a really bad orange/blonde bob situation, I found them and haven't looked back. I've lost track of the amount of women I've sent here, all of whom are now ride or dies like me. A quick note on the Covid protocol: I went this week for both cut and color on separate days. Courtney has made sure that the process is all down to a science. Temperature taken at the door, mandatory hand wash, plenty of space and partitions between clients, all the staff are in protective gear and they're all meticulously wiping down surfaces and cleaning.
