I needed to do a touch up on my roots and didn't feel like walking far away from home due to time constrain so I called and got a voice mail. Much to my surprise someone called me back and was able to squeeze me in. Nao dyed my hair and explained that because of my highlights; I should go darker to obtain maximum coverage and he was correct. After he dyed my hair, I got the most incredible head and neck massage; hands down as well as a deep conditioner treatment. I was so relaxed that I fell of sleep. I will definitely come back. Nao has been my hair stylist for 6 years. I was so thrilled when I heard he was opening his own place in Williamsburg! I live in upper manhattan, but it's still worth it to make the trip to Brooklyn. I've had short hair and long hair cuts from him. He also did an amazing digital perm for me last year and did an up-do for my wedding a few months ago. It was a hard sell to get my husband to go to Nao but after the first haircut, he didn't go anywhere else again. The head and shoulder massages are out of this world too! I started getting the Liscio straightening/Japanese straightening/thermal reconditioning in Tokyo years ago when I lived there. I love the way it makes my hair feel and how much healthier it has become because of it. It lasts a while so I can focus on other things instead of getting it re-done every week or month. When I returned to the US I found it very difficult to find a salon that would feel comfortable doing it on my type of hair (African American) and many stylists had said no without even looking at it even though I had treatments done before and not considering everyone's hair type is different no matter your ethnicity or looking at my previous sylist's notes. I finally found a salon that was the sister salon of the one I used in Tokyo and Nao was working there in New York. He took a chance and volunteered to try it and was confident he could do it. He did an amazing job and wasn't nervous or intimidated. He went above and beyond on a crazy girl who lived in Tokyo and came back to US back in her hometown of St. Louis who flew on a plane to New York hoping for the same amazing service she got in Japan. Now Nao has his own salon and I followed him there too. He is worth the flight 2-3 times a year from now my home in Detroit because he is an amazing stylist and someone I consider my friend. He knows my hair, my family, and has watched my son grow up on visits to his salon throughout the year. Even if I found a salon closer to me I would still come to see Nao because he is absolutely worth it. Plus I love the amazing places he recommends in NYC which makes it an amazing weekend trip as it is crazy that salons where I live want to charge me 3-4 times as much and won't even do the service but I can fly to New York and go to see Nao, his amazing salon and staff and enjoy New York for a weekend and eat amazing food for only a fraction of the cost to try a salon near me who is afraid of my hair. This place is awesome!! I have done the Japanese straightening at many salons and my friend recommended that I go to Nao. I can't say enough great things about him, the salon, and most importantly my hair!! By far the best results I've gotten with the Japanese treatment. My hair dries straight and looks like I blew it out when it dries naturally. It also looks a lot healthier. The haircut was awesome and he understood exactly what I wanted. The salon is beautiful and is a big open space (not stuffy at all like other salons) and it is really relaxing to be there. Nao has been my hair stylist since 2009. I have lived in CT and upstate NY and would still drive to Nao to get my hair colored and cut. Nao is my absolute favorite hair stylist of all time! He's super talented and had gained tremendous amount of experience being theArt Director at Hayato salon. But since Hayato charges premium price for his skills, I was extremely glad to stumble upon Nao's own beautiful salon - BERRY. He gave the best haircuts I've ever had in NYC (I've been to almost every Japanese hair salon in NYC). He is also the best colorist which is why I referred everyone to him, as he colored my hair so beautifully that people on the street often stop me to ask where I got my hair done. What an incredible experience. Everything from the decor, to the music and the personalized planter's pot with my name on it. The space is incredibly welcoming. I had a double process done going from black hair to platinum blonde that took a little less than four hours. Nao is most likely a magician, he worked magic and made the transformation possible. The salon itself is very cute, and a nice place to spend 4 hours for this long straightening process. I've been going to Hayato since I've moved to NY 5 years ago but many of their better hairstylists have since left and I'm so so glad that I managed to hunt Nao down. Nao has been able to cut/color my hair to exactly how I want it. I'm also constantly looking for a change or opinion and he has always been able to give me good advice which is why even though Brooklyn is pretty out of the way for me, I have no complaints making the trip over to see him. The space is also very well designed - minimalist and industrial like.
