I scheduled a brief consultation at the shop. She told me what she could do and I was excited to get started. I tried to book appt with that specific stylist that came highly recommended. I tried to book on their site but everything said no open appointments. I tried from around May to December. Finally I gave up. They do great work because my neighbor's hair always looks good but I couldn't get appt read more

It's kind of far from where I live, so I'm so glad that didn't stop me. The salon is beautiful. The owner, Maxine, knows how to curly hair. I got my hair done to go to a wedding and received so many compliments on my hair. Thank you, Maxine. Just a heads up, she is busy, so book early. read more

I have been to this place twice and I fell in love. My first impression was that it would be sketchy because there is no actual storefront, but once you step inside it is beautiful and peaceful. I am always offered coffee, tea, and snacks. Most importantly, my appointments start ON TIME. The only cons is that it is located out of the way for me and it is hard to get appointments. I like getting Signature Curls on my type 4C hair. read more

I definitely recommend this awesome salon. Maxine the owner and proprietor of this establishment, is very hands on, very knowledgeable about Natural hair. She's a curly girl herself. So if you're looking for someone who walks the walk and talks the natural hair talk, then Curly Dimensions is The Curly Salon For you. I'm a curly girl client and have been for the last 3 years. Knowing that you have a person who loves doing hair is key. When looking for a natural hairstylist, check out how they keep their hair. Is their hair healthy, and amazing or is it unhealthy, not kept, slacking off? Why would you entrust them to teach you about something hair, when they're not doing to themselves? Once you enter into the doors of this salon, you're met with a pristine environment. The aroma of the candles gives off such a subtle scent that sets the tone and you'll know something good is about to happen to your hair. The products that are used in your hair, Maxine uses them also. The atmosphere is peaceful and tranquil. I often fall asleep once I'm under the dryer. There's always great snacks and tea. Maxine spares no expense for her snacks because she cares for her curly girls who enter those doors. Once inside, you will see the amazing deco. The walls are a tranquil warm tone, which says a lot. Curly Dimensions is a special place, look no further, get into it. read more

Finally, the first hair stylist to get it right! After years of trying to achieve a specific color with various stylists, I was ready to give up. Thankfully I decided to try Curly Dimensions and I was not disappointed. Maxine took the time to talk me through my color options and ended up doing exactly what I envisioned. Maxine is very professional and cares about her craft. I can't recommend her enough! read more

I've been going to Maxine for over a year now and have loved my experience in her salon since day one. She's always so welcoming, punctual, and uplifting. The fact that she slays my (4C) hair every single visit is something I have yet to experience at any other salon. My hair has never been healthier and her signature curl styling is great for lazy naturals myself. I literally just spray a few pumps of moisturizing mist and go. And the compliments I get on my hair! At this point it's easier for me to carry her card with me at all times lol. She's truly a blessing and idk what I'd do with my hair without her gifted hands. read more

Finally! I found one who could care for my curly hair and the Curly Dimensions Salon is it! Maxine, the stylist and owner is fabulous, patient, and prompt with her clients, no waiting for hours to have your seat and attention. Small, clean and not crowded with smells and smoke, brilliant!! The only downfall is that she does not have a chain of salons! I am from NY and live abroad and wish that there were black hair care salons for Curly hair here in Europe. They are hard to find in the US and impossible to find in Europe! I have prompted many a stylist to come! Please come!! I would highly recommend you book at Curly Dimensions Salon for any of your black hair care needs especially if you want to manage and care for your curly hair. Thank you again Maxine! I look forward to my next appointment!! read more

If you are a natural girl in New York you know it can be hard to find a good hair stylist who is reasonably priced. I found this salon on Instagram and thought to give it a try and it was worth it! Maxine is great at customer service listens to what you want, but gives her professional opinion and is honest. A rare find in NYC and has so much talent with her hairstyles. I would definitely recommend this salon to any girls who are trying to maintain their natural hair. read more

Maxine is the BEST, hands down! I did a big chop and she made sure to always ask if I was okay, if the water was too cold, etc. She made the experience and the atmosphere very easy-going. Of course I'll be going back. You are amazing and like I said before, you have a gift. Thank you for not making my BC experience terrifying. Update: I've been going back to Maxine every month for the past 3 months. You won't regret it! read more

I simply don't know where to start. It's been 13 years since I been to a hair salon bc I never leave with what I initially wanted. Curly Dimensions has great reviews so I went with super high expectations and was STILL BLOWN AWAY. How sis?!! The ambience...calm, intimate. Decor..the cutest! Maxine's personality is flawless. Well mannered, overall sweet, not scissor happy (thank you Jesus). She explained everything she would be doing from beginning to end. There was no disappointing surprises. Since Maxine touched my hair with her blessed hands my hair is just flourishing, shiny, bouncy, shaped just like I wanted it! Man, let me stop because I'll just be going on and on! read more

This was my first time trying my hair done since being natural (7 years) and I went here after relentlessly researching natural hair salons. It was between this salon and deva curl but after seeing the stylist worked at devacurl I decided to give it a go. PROs: I ended up getting my hair straightened and it came out great and she was patient with me asking multiple questions about what she was doing to my hair CONs: 1. At first I wanted color but when I got there I chickened out because I was scared of the potential damage (I don't regret the decision). What I didn't like was that she kept pressuring me to get the color after I expressed my concerns and said no; it wasn't until I told her that I chose her after extensive research that she backed off a little. 2. I kind of expected the hair dresser/client feel though where there's some conversation but there was none, but maybe we just didn't vibe because she was chatty with another client 3. She doesn't give her prices out up front but instead takes you tip the side and writes them in a piece of paper giving you the feel that there isn't a set price for hairstyles Overall my hair turned out nice so I can't complain and my curls came back with no damage wishing was the goal so you can definitely give this place a try! read more

This review is well past due. I booked Maxine for a curly style in May 2014 using Design Essentials honey curl forming custard. I found her on instagram. I arrived with damp hair that I'd washed and detangled. She applied a cream gel to my edges and used the custard all over, shingled it on, and added a few duck bill clips to add weight. I sat under the dryer until fully dry. I was very happy with the results although I never went back. I felt like she was too rough with my hair...especially since I detangled in advance. I remember being at the sink after she was raking through my wet hair. I felt and saw hair come out. ..not clumps or anything. I have tightly coiled 4a curls. I chalked it up to rushing given the waiting clients in small shop. The style looked good and I promptly bought the products to use at home. It lasted for 8 days through cardiovascular workouts although I had some flakes from the cream gel. I'm very sensitive to how my hair is handled. I try to steer clear of rough hands....even my own if I'm tired or frustrated. read more

This review is not based on how good she does hair because she is amazing at doing hair. This review is based on customer service. The fact that you have to book appointments through vargo is in itself annoying but when I got my hair done she told me to call her in 2 weeks so that she can give me an appointment. When I called her my hair was a mess and I didnt know what to do with my hair. She told me that she didnt have any available appointments and she didnt know when she would have any available appointments and that I should keep checking vargo. How does that help me? After she did my hair she didnt tell me to book an appointment online she told me to call her and that's just what I did. I texted her the following day and she didnt respond and then I emailed her, again she didnt respond. Days went by of waiting for a response. I ended up braiding my hair because I couldn't keep wearing baseball hats and looking like trash. I 100% love to support black businesses but this kind of customer service is TERRIBLE! Maxine can do hair well but getting an appointment is hell and very inconvenient when you are depending on her and shes not willing to give you an appointment or respond to your messages. Go somewhere else where you can get an appointment it's not worth it. read more

Maxine is a curly girls "hair goddess". She's so gentle, caring, knowledge and informative on everything to do with natural hair. I didn't want to write a review until I've been to her more than once. Her shop is very nicely decorated. She keeps mellow good music playing. She's also very polite and offers beverages. I must say she's truly a gem. My hair has grown thicker and longer thanks to her actual hair care and her hair advice. I urge anyone with natural hair to definitely check her out. She's worth it!! read more

I just had the best experience today at Curly Dimensions salon! Maxine is the greatest! I was so nervous about doing a big chop but she and her assistants put me at ease. The entire process including which products were being used was explained in great detail step by step and I felt like I was in good hands. The salon is also beautifully decorated, making for a great atmosphere. I would give it 10 stars if I could!!! Thank you for providing such exceptional service, Maxine! read more

I had a wonderful experience with Maxine. From the minute I walked into the door I was greeted with a warm welcome and the most hospitable staff. Honestly, I did not know what to expect when I booked this appointment. When I got there, Maxine was very welcoming and professional and made me feel safe adhering to her COVID rules. So I came and patiently sat. The ambiance was very relaxing and uplifting, to be honest. She chatted me a little. When it came to doing my hair. SHE KNEW MY HAIR. She knew what was wrong with it, the products I needed to STOP using in my hair because my hair was like a brillo pad and crunchy! She washed my hair, deep conditioned, trimmed, brought back my natural curls, and then sat under the dryer and my hair came out BOMB!!! Ya'll when I say my hair has NEVER been this moisturized and SOFT, I felt like a little girl going to her first day of school and admiring my hair. Maxine was patient with me, answered ALL of my burning questions about how to care for my hair, what to use, and how to maintain. I said I'll write a real review and I wanted it to be authentic because I like the truth. I did my hair on 10/22, today is 11/1 and my hair is STILL SOFT and I wore my hair as is (out) in the coldness of Halloween (it was very cold yesterday). I'm still feeling my hair like its still soft, I have NOT done anything to it that I used to see on Youtube University (I feel cheated and wasted a lot of money on that nonsense but you live and you learn (hard sometimes lol)). I'm loving that my hair is SOFT in week 2 and I am not exaggerating when I say I do not know the last time (has been years) that my hair was NOT dry the very next day after wash day, confident enough to wear my hair out in COLD weather, and sleep on my hair and just fluff out my hair. It was worth every penny and I like to save my coins, but this was worth every penny. read more

I needed Ms. Maxine in my life. I just didn't know much. I absolutely LOVE my hair. I went in to get a cut and color. I've never had my hair colored before, and I told Maxine that I was relying on her expertise to guide me. She suggested a light/medium brown due to my skin tone and natural hair color. Boy, she was right!!! I can't stop looking at it in the mirror. She was professional, knowledgeable about hair, and very hospitable. She tended to my every need. Although I was nervous going in and having someone touch my hair after nearly 10 years of being natural, I immediately felt at ease with Maxine. The shop is also impeccably designed, inviting, clean and comfortable. I will definitely be back!!! read more

First of all, I would like to give a huge thank you to the owner Maxine for making me a new woman. I have not had my hair professionally done in a few years. I felt very welcomed for my first time going to this salon. I was also pleasantly surprised by the whole decor and ambiance. I can tell she is really appreciated by her customers. I would totally recommend Maxine to others. She does a great job with natural hair bringing out your natural beauty. read more

Maxine is great at what she does. If you have natural/curly/kinky hair and want a cut that elevates your look, Maxine can do that for you. She did it for me! I had been walking around believing that having natural hair was a look in and of itself but I wanted something more defined. I wanted hair that made a statement. I found Maxine at Curly Dimensions via Yelp. In one of the previous reviews, a patron mentioned her Instagram so I checked it out and was impressed by the photos of her work. I decided to walk over to the address listed here but found no salon. I called the number listed and spoke to Maxine who directed me to a salon on Church Avenue where she works now. No big deal as it was still walking distance from my Canarsie home. Went over, quick consult and made an appointment for the coming Saturday. Showed up then with damp hair and a couple of photos of what I thought would look really cool on me. Be advised -- Maxine planned to dry-cut my hair so showing up with freshly-washed, still-wet hair was a bad move. Had to sit under the dryer for a spell which I don't enjoy but my baby didn't mind. Oh, did mention I brought my baby along? Maxine didn't mind at all as my son is quiet and very pleasant company. Plus, breastfeeding while sitting under a hair dryer felt pretty damn chic! Put baby in his stroller and sat myself in Maxine's chair. She takes another quick look at the photos I brought along as I insist "something like this" would be just fine. She plucks my curls up and out to its full 'fro glory and snip, snip, snippity snip... Voila!! It's exactly what I was hoping for. Actually, it's better than what I was hoping for! Well, that was almost 2 months ago and I love my hair more and more every day. I used to have to wash my hair to make it look good. Now, it looks good from the moment I wake up and with no product because it has shape. Whether I rock it plucked up and kinky or air-dried and curly; it's super cute. All in all, I am totally happy with the job Maxine did and I highly recommend her to anyone with Black hair. Her prices are higher than I anticipated but 1) her shearing skills are worth every penny and 2) when natural hair is cut right, the style grows along with the hair! She may only see me 3 or 4 times a year!! But you know what? I'm not going to anyone else as long as she's around and I'm au naturale. :) read more

MAXINE IS AMAZING! She has these rapid-fire fingers that can twist and mold my curls with the flick of her wrist! After transitioning for 6 months and wearing protective styles, I was completely lost when I removed my twists after the start of the new year. I found Maxine on Instagram (I had been following her for months), and called frantically looking for guidance on the next step. She was kind enough to squeeze me in on the same day (a busy Saturday) and was sweet-natured and assuring, suggesting I was ready for the big chop. I was extremely happy with the result and received so many compliments. My hair was dry, but she has restored it back to good health using good products (DevaCurl and Design Essentials) and conditioning treatments. Although my curls are "hard" when I'm finished drying, they maintain definition for a week a more (I've gone as far as day 14 curls with Maxine's styles) and softens up with a spritz of water and olive oil. The salon is clean and welcoming, and she is very punctual with her appointments. I highly recommend! I'm like a walking advertisement --- people are always complimenting me on my curly TWA. read more
