I get my hair cut and colored here by Taka. I've really liked both the cuts and colors. He was able to get a great blonde. on my black hair on the first try. For most other places, it would take them 2-3 times to get that shade of blonde. It's a cash only business, so come prepared. And to get it styled after the cut, it's an incremental fee. I actually prefer this b/c I'm rarely going somewhere right after, so I don't mind a simple blow dry. They share space with miGak nail salon, so I can usually do both in one visit. read more

Think this is going to be my new regular. I have been for years very much low maintenance and going to Chinatown old haircut place. I haven't had proper stylist work in a long time and had been hesitant to find one away from what I knew. It was great to have happened upon this place and had no problems booking the week of. The space is oozing with creativity (with other small business owners co-sharing the location including a cafe). I had Samer (absolutely recommend) who was new to the salon and had an incredible chat and great consultation. I wanted a low maintenance cut that would allow for my natural waves to come through as they grow. Very pleased thus far and the waves are coming through despite being pummeled by rain today. I went to Hazuki Hair Salon in Brooklyn because my cousin has been coming to this salon for awhile, and he recommended this place. It was my first time getting a haircut after 3 years of self-hair cutting. I have a hime cut, and I wanted my hair to be overall much neater and evener. I had Tatsumi as my hairstylist, and he was great. Very attentive to what I wanted, and he communicated what he was planning to execute before cutting my hair. He also made sure that I felt comfortable with his vision before he initiated anything. Every step of his care was wonderful; I felt so relaxed during the entire process. Afterwards my hair was so even and SO smooth. I had to ask him for what he used on my hair because he bascially restored my 5x bleached hair into a beautiful, luxurious hair again. My hair had never been this soft before. Tatsumi also did not gatekeep on the products he used. I made all of my friends feel my hair afterwards because I had to gospel Tatsumi's skills to everyone that I knew. I left the salon super happy, and Im super glad that I was under Tatsumi's care for my very damaged hair. He is sweet, professional, and skilled. I will definitely come back in the future. Trying out a salon for the first time can be scary... but this was such an effortless and great experience. I was able to book over the phone and get some consultation prior to booking the appointment. My stylist, Keiji, understood exactly what I wanted and his professionalism and skills were honestly outstanding. It's also less expensive in comparison to other reputable Japanese salons. I went in with long hair, bleached & brassy bottom half, and roots grown out. I asked for shoulder length cut, to tone the bleached hair, and add some streaks of color (balayage). I went from neglected, poorly self-cut quarantine hair to walking out of the salon with a bounce, figuratively and literally. Such a great treat to myself after months of neglecting some much needed self care. Stopped by Hazuki for the first time and sat down with Keiji. He is the man!!! This is probably my first or second haircut that costs more than $30 pre tip and Keiji not only knocked my haircut out of the park, but made me feel welcome in the shop from the moment I sat down. He worked with me to make sure he knew what look I was going for before he even picked up his scissors. After he started cutting, he asked me about myself which lead to us talking about him, anime, food, movies, and his culture. I noticed that despite being engaged in conversation, he maintained an attention to detail to his cutting that shows how passionate he really is about his craft. The hour flew by and after the head and shoulder massage I felt and looked like a new man. He even recommended a new shampoo and conditioner, and hair care regimen I could try to deal with my dandruff issues that have plagued me my whole life. For as long as I live in the area, I'm never going back to a sub $30 dollar barbershop again. I'll gladly pay the $60 to sit down with Keiji and know I'm sitting down with a master of his craft. Before I came to Hazuki, my hair was damaged and boring. I needed a new look and decided to go for a shoulder length bob with waves and... BANGS. I've never had nice bangs in my life and was pretty nervous about trying it again. Going to a salon during a pandemic didn't ease my nerves either. That's when I met Ayaka, my wonderful stylist. Ayaka greeted me with a warm welcome and made sure she understood what I wanted before she got started. I explained that my hair was really thin and that I needed volume and texture. This is the best salon I've ever gone to! Everyone there is so nice and the stylist Hummer did a great job. The staff are very gentle and NEVER pull at your scalp when washing, combing, or drying your hair. The only thing is the salon shares a space with two other businesses so it can be confusing if you weren't aware beforehand. They also only take cash or check, but they let you know that when you make the appointment and they confirm the price via text. I will go again for sure. read more

I got a blow dry from NANA during COVID 19 pandemic. The salon is about 3 blocks walk from the train station so it was pretty easy to find. Everyone was was masked up inside. I came in a bit early and she took me anyways. It was a bit hard to understand each other because of the mask but either than that, She was supper sweet. Gave me me an amazing head massage. We got along super well and he accommodated me with no issues when I switched from asking for a 2 block haircut to a simple short style. I came here for Japanese hair straightening. I have shoulder length mainly straight hair with a bit of curlier hair underneath. For 15 plus years I have gotten my hair straightened usually at Sei Tomoko in Manhattan. It always looks gorgeous - never had a problem. I do the process every 2 years so that I give full time to grow out. This year I decided to go to Hazuki foe the first time because I live in Brooklyn now. What a nightmare. Parts of my hair did get mainly straighter - though not the typical way Japanese hair straightening works - my hair is straight but looks like straw - the parts that were curlier underneath have now become frizz and smell as though they have been burned in a fire. The hair cut is ridiculous but that's another matter - I'm spoiled because I go to Vidal Sassoon - hopefully the cut can be corrected. As for the damage done to my hair, my hope is that it will grow out - nor fall out or be some kind of permanent problem. I texted with the person who did this to me, and he said he wanted me to come in right away to fix it. I said I didn't trust this and wanted at least a partial refund. He said they don't do that in spite of sending him pictures of my hair. I spoke to the manager in Manhattan. He agreed to giving me back the money for the straightening which was $350. I am still out the $90 for the poor haircut and the 20% tip I gave. I think I gave the tip because I was in shock and hoped something might change - I couldn't believe what happened. I have no idea why this place has five stars. I really hope that before you decide to come here, you read my review and make a better decision. Go somewhere else. Go ANYWHERE else. I made an appointment for 4 pm today with Yuki. We had a consultation first where he listened to what I wanted for my haircut--I had very very long hair, almost to my waist, and I wanted a chin-length bob. I said I wanted something cool and casual, easy maintenance. He was nodding and saying, yes I understand, we'll do something sexy and with movement. I said that sounded good. Fast forward thirty minutes and I was uneasy to say the least. The right side of my hair was noticeably longer than the left, but he was still cutting and I chalked it up to some acceptable miscalibration that would be fixed later. Then he started cutting bangs, which he denied were bangs. I had said very clearly during the consultation, in no uncertain terms, that I DID NOT WANT BANGS. He was like, okay, okay, no bangs. But what do you call shorter pieces of hair near your forehead? If it looks like bangs and hangs like bangs...dude they're freaking bangs At this point I was like, okay, this guy gave me bangs when I said I didn't want any, and one side of my hair is longer than the other, and now he's blow drying my hair so does this mean we're done? I was starting to get seriously worried that I'd look like a monster, but I remembered all those five star reviews and hoped that the blowdryer was actually a magic weapon that would fix all the things now wrong with my hair Hahahahaha no. Guys. I swear I looked like some middle aged Chinese mother trying to be edgy. I had these weird poofy bang things around my face, the angle at the bottom of my hair was all weird and looked disconnected from front to back, and he'd somehow fluffed up the top of my hair while thinning out the bottom so that I wound up having the shape of a bloody mushroom. Not going to lie, I cried. And I will say this: he immediately asked what he could do to make it better. But honestly at that point, with my hair super short and those weird things that absolutely were bangs, there was nothing much to be done. I finally had him cut a bit more off the bottom to make a semi-straight line around my head. I also pointed out the unevenness between the left and right sides but this guy had some serious denial issues. Bangs are "not bangs" and unevenness is "layers." Then I made the mistake of saying that I'd rather it looked messy than this weird wrapped mushroom shape, and he went. To. Town. With those scissors. My hair looks like chopped straw. I tried dampening my hair, twisting it, and then pinning it up so that it would dry a bit wavy. My hair is dead straight normally. But the messy look really just doesn't work. It doesn't look intentional. It looks like I got a bad haircut because that's exactly what happened I'm devastated and I'm writing this review so that your hair doesn't get messed up too. My wife recently got a haircut from Master Stylist Seiji at Hazuki Hair Salon in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She loved the salon. It's a little difficult to find since she didn't see a sign for a hair salon outside. It's located in a warehouse, and there are other activities going on in the large space. But the atmosphere is very peaceful. No loud music blasting as in other salons I have been to. There is art on the walls, clothes and other things seem to be sold. Next door in the same building there is store with a large selection of Japanese products including great green tea, prepared food, cosmetics and gift items. Seiji took a lot of time cutting her hair, and asked her what she was looking for. He tuned into her preferences and taste. She was very pleased with her haircut and highly recommends Seiji. My hair was very overdue for a cut & color, which I usually get every 4-6 months (the color usually to cover greys). Maybe it was my stringy, lifeless, grown out hair, but I was really in the mood for changing it up a bit and asked KG to chop a good 6-8" off and go for a lighter, slightly more ashy color - in the past, I've almost always done my natural nearly black color and leaned into my naturally more red undertones. I'm not great at articulating my hair dreams without photos, but after talking to me about some options and looking through some examples, we got to the exact color I wanted - I loved that I wasn't rushed into a decision before we really figured out what direction to head in and the same thing applied to my cut. I have a ton of hair and not all stylists know how to properly thin it out without creating awful choppy or short layers (not a good look for my face shape, hair texture, and 5-min morning routine combo). I want to share my great experience. I went to Hazuki hair salon couple days before. The building looks like combine place. There are hair salon , manicure, Japanese grocery store , cafe and gallery. They had everything what I wanted. My hairdressers, keiji, Issei and Tetsu, were definitely professional people ,made me so great hair style. When I went to Hazuki Hair, I had never dyed my hair before. My hair is long, pitch black, and thick, and I really don't use heat to style or dry. I had no idea what kind of process it would be to treat virgin hair like mine, and I'm really glad that I'd requested Keiji as my colorist. Keiji consulted with me right after I made my appointment, and after asking me about my current hair and what colors I wanted, talked me through why taking my hair to pastel pink immediately probably wouldn't be the best place to start. When I arrived at the salon, he also took the time to understand what kind of color I was looking for, down to the nuances of warm/cool, how to get the kind of tones I was really looking for, etc., and then chatted with me about how he planned to achieve that. I'd specifically asked for an appointment with Keiji after seeing some of his work on instagram, and it was obvious he really knew his craft. The entire process took close to four and a half hours, and in the end I was blown away by the results. I really wanted hair that still looked healthy and multidimensional, and Keiji fully delivered. He also talked me through product recommendations and color upkeep, and overall made what was a very long process as comfortable and educational as possible. I'll definitely go back to Hazuki Hair and Keiji to maintain my color, and I'd highly recommend checking them out if you were like me and are nervous about making Big Changes to your hair! read more

I've been here twice now and had different stylists both times. In both cases the only directions I gave were pretty much just do whatever you want. In both cases I've gotten precise sexy creative haircuts. Yeah! Also the clothes and accessories in the accompanying boutique are super edgy and awesome. Oh! I really love the hair color that Ayaka chose for me. Although It's not a complex color, she did it so carefully and it's exactly the same color I expected. A very gentle dark brown with some reddish in it, super suitable for the winter. Ayaka is very stylish and super detailed oriented. Even though the color is not complex compared to pink or balayage, she used two colors and apply separately to my root part(black ) and the other part (light brown). Then it turns to fabulous results. I always dyed my hair to dark brown during the past winters. This is my favorite one. Love this new location for Hazuki Hair! I was first introduced to Hazuki hair through my bf who had been getting his hair cut by Jun for over a year now. Jun gave me a wonderful cut in the midtown location. After hearing he had started working at this newest store downtown, we followed him here. This location is considerably smaller but since it's new it's a lot less crowded. Still the same style of interior design with large antique mirrors everywhere but much more simple and toned down. Jun cuts hair here along with a few other stylists who work in both salons, midtown and downtown. If you're looking for someone specific, make sure you call in advance to find out their exact schedule! I would highly recommend Jun because I've been consistently pleased with his work on both my bf and I. My bf gets a cut every month and I've gotten my hair cut once and dyed (with highlights and lowlights) another time. I was very pleased on both occasions with the result.The level of care and precision that Jun gives my hair is exceptional and I don't see myself looking elsewhere for salon services! I've been getting my hair colored by Taka at Hazuki Salon for a couple years now, and I am very happy with the results every time! The salon is beautifully designed, elegant with an edge. It's very comfortable there and the service is amazing, and the prices of the services are not Manhattan prices which I really appreciate....as you can see, I can't say enough about this place!
