Very luxurious blowout at a reasonable price! The salon is super clean and they do a double cleanse on your hair before the blow out (chairs lie flat and there's this steam that infuses the products into your hair better). They also use all natural /non toxic products from Italy My blowout lasted for days and honestly may have looked better the day after! I went to Gary but heard good things about all the stylists - and they all are very nice! I've tried a lot of popular spots in the city and think this may be one of the best. Found my new go to salon! read more

I live in the neighborhood and I am shocked it to long for me to discover ARCO Salon. I needed a wash and blow out for a special occasion and decided to try ARCO, after being disappointed with a different local salon. I am so happy I decided to make a change. It was an amazing hair salon experience. The salon itself is beautiful, welcoming with a very relaxing vibe. Brittany was so kind. I didn't feel like it was a first time experience. Brittany went out of her way to make me comfortable. I love that the products are all organic and plant based. During the hair wash, there was steam with such a beautiful scent. What a great touch, that really enhanced my experience. My blow out was amazing. It was beautifully styled and lasted for days! I highly recommend ARCO. I know I will be a return customer. read more

These guys are awful!!! I had an appointment with a stylist the first time, we came up with a long term plan for alternating between color and highlights, I booked my 2nd appointment around her vacation schedule which was not easy, when I showed up, another stylist took care of me, not knowing about the plan we had made, and made my hair way too dark.... And all this while the stylist I was supposed to have was right there, not even saying hello or acknowledging me. Seriously!?! Terrible. Not sure who these hairdressers think they are but they are condescending and obnoxious! This is a local neighborhood salon!!! WTF. Never again!!!! read more

Long overdue review. I came here regularly for root touch-ups, but they consistently left visible hair dye on my scalp -- to the point where color would come off on my fingers when I ran my hands through my hair afterward and showed it to them. Whenever I brought it up, it was brushed off, especially by Gary, the owner, who made me feel like I was being "too demanding" instead of addressing the issue professionally. I was also spoken to disrespectfully in front of other people, which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. The last time I raised the concern, I was told not to come back to the salon. Since then, I've found another salon that uses much better products, no longer leaves my scalp irritated or itchy afterward, and actually washes my hair thoroughly with no dye left behind. Honestly, I should have left this salon much sooner. Based on my experience, I would absolutely not recommend this salon to anyone looking for professionalism, quality service, or basic respect toward customers. read more

I would not recommend ARCO if you have thin or fine hair. I visited for a cut and partial highlight, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The stylist applied bleach for my highlights from around 1:30pm to 2:10pm. She then left me processing until roughly 2:40pm while she worked on another client's highlights. This extended processing time was very different from my experiences at other salons; I'd never had a stylist leave my whole head processing for nearly this long, or go work with another client during this process. By the time she returned, my scalp was burning, which I mentioned to her. She didn't seem concerned, saying she would rinse it out. After rinsing out the bleach, she brushed my hair very roughly while it was still wet, and I was shocked to see a large clump of extremely blonde hair in the brush. I've been getting highlights for over a decade and have never experienced or seen that much hair loss at any other salon. This was especially alarming given how fine and sparse my hair already is. When I asked about it, she dismissed my concern and said it was "normal." After blow-drying, I could see visible damage and thinner areas, but both the stylist and the salon owner told me nothing was wrong. My scalp is still sore, and when my hair is wet you can see large areas missing hair. I'm devastated that a so-called "luxury" salon handled my hair so carelessly. read more

One of the best haircuts of my life. I didn't think my hair could look this good. I'm excited to try them for color

Anthony is amazing!! Last year I decided to go mostly blonde and I went to two different salons prior to here, starting with subtle balayage, to lighter and now mostly blonde. The last two salons I went to, one was in the area and the other was back in California. I didn't love the first salon I went to and wanted to find someone in the neighborhood. I am so glad I gave this salon a shot!! I've never had a non-asian hair stylist, just because I preferred someone who really knew the ins-and-outs of fine asian hair and it's safe to say I won't get my hair colored by anyone else other than Anthony so long as I don't move away. He's really got an eye for color, giving my hair volume through texture and dimension! He's super funny and sweet and really listens to what you want. I've seen him four times now and he's just the best! If he thinks you need a touch up, he'll make time for you to stop by in the coming days after your initial appointment to make sure you're not only getting the desired result but also your money's worth! Coloring your hair is definitely not cheap but Anthony is seriously worth every dime! Thanks for making me look good, Anthony!! read more

the best hair salon experience ever! i'm obsessed with this place, and it's officially become my new hair care home. my stylist is geneva!! the amount of care & time she took to manage and do my hair was exceptional, she's the best and i'm so happy to continue my hair journey with her. the atmosphere and interior is stunning and screams luxurious, i enjoyed some peppermint tea (they offer a few beverage options) as well and the hair products smell amazing and worked wonders on my 4c hair. all organic and plant based which is exactly what i need for a sensitive scalp like mine!!!! read more

It's no wonder Gary is known to be a color doctor! After a disappointing color & cut I had elsewhere and right before New Year's, Gary was the only person that came to mind when fixing was in order! He works so well and with such great finesse I've forgotten how good the experience should really be! He was able to bring my hair back to life with new color, cut and treatment. Both color and cut complimented my skin tone and the shape of my face, something that many other stylists and colorists tend to overlook! Thank you Gary for being so wonderful! Wishing you and your family a Happy & Healthy New Year! read more

Updating my review to again sing praise on Alex's talent. After a thoughtful consultation, she took her time to give literally the best highlights I've had in the last 20 years. Also the newly renovated space is gorgeous and airy. You can tell everyone really enjoys working with each other, which sitting in the chair for nearly four hours a blast. read more

Here with my daughter. First impression:fancy. This place is top notch from decor to service. Be ready to get pampered. Have a seat in the most fabulous lounge chairs that vibrate while you get your hair washed. The stylist discussed all issues concerning her hair and scalp and treated them remarkably. Her hair was styled with the large curls that felt silky smooth and had a delicious smell. I must say it was worth every penny. $$ You can trust your hair is in good hands. Ask for Maati. read more

Okay so let me tell you about ARCO - after moving to New York 5 years ago, I decided it was time to let go of my old hair dresser in Philadelphia (shout out to mirror and mantel) so I began my search for a vegan hair salon that shared my passion for the environment and animals. To my surprise, I found ARCO 3 blocks from my home and fell in LOVE. Gary is a wonderful spirit that embodies passion and talent that you can instantly trust with your mane. All of their products are vegan, environmentally friendly, and work very well. I personally go to the hairdresser with a rough idea of what I would like and prefer hairdressers to have a consultative approach and vision to help achieve a look that's in season and looks great. Gary was able to envision what I wanted and added a little more pizzazz to the color which I desperately needed. In terms of COVID their space is EXTREMELY clean - I honestly challenge you to find one little dust bunny . The chairs were wiped before and after use, everyone wore a mask, and all was well in the world. Last but not least, ARCO is in the process of opening a zero waste salon!!!! Very excited to go back and see what the future has in store for Gary and his team. read more

I contemplated a very short cut for awhile, but was really worried about the upkeep. Every other stylist in Brooklyn made it impossible to book them. Most you had to pay through a Stylist Seat account, and I didn't want to pay for anything in advance just in case something went wrong. ARCO was easy to set an appointment with, and I like that their products are cruelty free. The space is pretty clean, and organized. Maati is nice, but she would've been nicer if she had informed me that she was doing a silk press. And not a basic hot tool work, after the wash and the hot steam treatment I explained to her that my hair is relaxed- it doesn't take much to blow out, and flat iron my hair anyway since it's soft. This place is not cheap, and I wanted to come here to treat myself. The woman at the desk was really sweet, and she tried to explain the pricing- silk press is $75(she's new) I've seen YouTube tutorials of silk presses. Usually the stylist straightens the hair with a hot comb, then wraps the hair with Saran Wrap to keep the hair straight. That's not what she did, she only passed a flat iron through my hair twice, and that is what they consider a silk press at this salon. I expected to pay 130, and ended up paying 114. My hair cut came out amazing! And my hair feels soft. If I need to treat myself to a good trim I'll consider this place again but probably not with Maati. read more

Ughhhhh. I hate to say it but do no go here and definitely DO NOT LET VINCE COME NEAR YOUR HAIR. Seriously, I would not let him touch my hair again even if he paid me. Not exaggerating, I've had much better cuts from students at hair cutting schools. I can't believe he's licensed... and if you think I'm exaggerating please see the picture below. I wanted to and thought I would love this salon - they use natural/cruelty free products and are close to where I live. However, my request for a few inches off with long layers resulted in a choppy disaster. When I went back to have it fixed a few days later (after much crying and wine), a different and senior stylist saw me and attempted to "fix" it. While it was somewhat better than the first cut it is was by no means a "good" haircut. The right side of my hair is about an inch longer than the left (seriously?!?) and is overall choppy and looks like I cut my own hair with kitchen scissors. I still feel embarrassed to wear my hair down and desperately need to find a good salon that will fix it without taking MORE inches off my once long hair. Also, I'm pretty sure the owner was in the salon when I was having this disaster "fixed". He was around the salon but clearly not doing any work or with a client. Not sure why he wouldn't have personally fixed the disaster one of his "stylists" caused since he was in the salon and free. read more

I have no words to describe my amazing experience at ARCO! I drove 2.5 hours with hopes of finally getting the color I have been obsessing over for three years--it was worth every traffic jam and road rage aggravation, lol!! From the second I walked in, I felt more than welcome! What a beautiful atmosphere! Gary was very meticulous every step of the way--my expectations were exceeded! Gary and the staff are beyond phenomenal! Looking forward to many more visits! read more

Terrible customer service. This salon contacted me 30 minutes before my appointment to ask if I could come an hour later than my scheduled time because the stylist was tied up with color appointments. I did not have the flexibility to accommodate this request due to other commitments. They apologized and suggested that I come another day. I had wanted to have my hair done before an important business trip the following morning. Instead I was left late in the afternoon with no viable alternatives. The situation was handled unprofessionally, with very short notice and no remedy for their deficient time management. read more

I just got my very long hair professionally colored for the first time in my life, in preparation for my upcoming wedding. I almost never get my hair done - I don't get cuts and very rarely get blowouts. I'm basically a salon virgin. ARCO could not have been more wonderful- Gary made me feel beautiful, and treated my hair with such care and respect as he found the perfect color plan for me and executed it to perfection. I will be coming back on my wedding day to get it styled and I couldn't be more excited with how beautiful my hair looks right now. I highly recommend this place for people who don't get their hair done often! They will treat you right! read more

There is NO ONE else in the world I will let touch my hair. Geneva has been my stylists for yearssss and her passion and precision is expressed perfectly every time. She's dubbed herself the DayMaker and I can't think of a title more deserving. She is warm and hospitable. Always checking in and explaining the steps she is taking. Arco itself is an extremely beautiful salon spa, clean, luxurious and bright. I take my hair appointments serious because it's my me time. I love that from the moment I walk in, the pampering begins. Coat taken and beverage offered. They even have a backyard that I've had the pleasure of spending time in when I've had services (color) that give me some wait time. But back to Geneva :) We've gone from dark to blonde hair. Blonde back to dark hair. Balayage. Highlights. Lowlights. Long cuts to bobs and she's mastered them all. My hair is pretty thin but she gives me the most perfect blowout that leaves me with much needed body. My latest request was to be a red head. She took me from sun to fire perfectly! (Before and after picture attached) I highly, highly recommend Geneva to anyone looking for a stylist with incredible energy, skill and talent. You will not be disappointed! read more

ARCO New York - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I recently decided to go platinum blonde from my natural dark brown hair color. My stylist back home in Houston told me it would take at least 4 times to get it to the desired shade I wanted with the possibility of some damage or over drying my hair. Since I'm in the New York area at least one week a month I decided to give ARCO New York a try. I looked at many salons on yelp and really liked that this salon used hair color and products that were organic and plant based. When I called the receptionist explained it could take multiple processes to get me to my desired look but said that the color they use has cotton protein, which is the closest to the protein in our hair, so my hair would be stronger and rejuvenated when I lightened it vs drying out that might happen with other products/salons. With that I was sold, so I booked with Gary. He was very thorough in his explanations of what to expect and how long the treatment would take. My first process came out a warm blonde, a lot lighter than I thought I would be on the first round. I just went back yesterday for the second round and was able to get my hair lightened exactly like the photo I showed him. I'm so happy with the color and also my hair feels amazing! You cannot go wrong choosing this salon, Gary and all the stylists there are so talented, knowledgeable and fun! I'm still shocked that I was able to get my hair exactly how I wanted in 2 visits vs 4 & without damaging my hair! Thank you Gary, you've gained a loyal client :) read more

After my appointment today with Gary I am simply left awestruck! The service here is beyond amazing. They're so accommodating to your every need. I came a long way from a dark dark brown to a beautiful silver grey tone, although it was time consuming I am not one bit regretful for choosing this place. They will have my business for as long as I have hair lol. Thank you a billion times to Gary for the patience and the staff as well for such outstanding service. read more

Geneva is the DAY MAKER, my experience was soothing and incredibly professional my silk press and hair cut were the truth -- this salon is beautiful and in a perfect location. They are so quick to respond that I was able to book my appointment via email while flying across the country! I selected Geneva after reading reviews and her bio on their website, she has an incredible energy and I'm happy to have found a stylist who is both talented and walks me through each step of the process. I had some heavy damage to my ends after a bad haircut followed by 6 months of protective styles. Don't get me wrong I am obsessed with Olaplex and high end products, however there is NOTHING like having a stylist walk you through and advise you on how much they are going to trim and walk you through how they are going to fix your bad haircut from months prior. To summarize, I love this place I felt like I invested in a salon and stylist that are incredible I will be back in 3 months for my next hair cut! read more

Beware, I booked a blow out online, got there and since I'm African American I could not get a blow out I was told I needed to be charged more for a silk press. I spent $100 for what was essentially a blow out and not a great one. Waste of money. Will not be returning. read more

OMG!!! Thank you Alex!!! You really took care of my hair!!! The trim you gave me is A-mazing! Gorgeous subtle long layers revived my hair giving it volume. Absolutely love this place. My new hair place for sure. Gary the owner is a doll. Was so lucky to get my hair done by him. So professional and knows what he's talking about. I am an introvert and getting my hair styled can be stressful if I think I have to make small talk. If the process is gonna be lengthy (like a lift or double process), ya might wanna say something nice to the person taking care of your head. Geneva is a genuine human first, a professional next, and an artist in every way. Always makes solid, intuitive decisions that I get complimented on frequently. Whether it's color or style, she has a clairvoyant sense of what makes me look good but let's go a step further from the result and say that Gary and his team are wonderful people to engage with. Going to this salon with its chic, modern stylish interior and receiving the warm, friendly vibe of having it done in your favorite auntie's kitchen? That's magic. Go here. You will not be disappointed. read more

Today was my first visit to Arco salon, and won't be my last! I had an appointment with Maati I was seen promptly, which was unlike other salons. From the first step I took inside to the last, the customer service and professionalism exceeded my expectations. Maati did MAGIC with my hair. I have natural hair and hadn't had a silk press in over a year, and she took very good care of my hair, and gave me a nice trim that gave my hair life. She is also very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions or concerns I had about my hair. I'm glad I took a chance with this salon, and Maati. Thanks, Maati! read more

Amazing service and incredible staff! Got my hair cut by Alex and will definitely be back for subsequent cuts as she's a gem! I don't get my hair cut often (1-2 times a year) so I never really know what kind to ask for (usually it's "not too short, some volume, whatever goes best with my face shape") and this was the best cut I've gotten. Alex is super friendly and walked me through the cut every step of the way. The salon is also very welcoming and beautifully set up. The massage chairs during the wash/shampoo were quite pleasant as well :) will definitely be back and will recommend ARCO to friends and family in the area! read more

Anthony was amazing. My beloved stylist left the country and even though I usually only visit a salon twice a year it's important that on those two occasions it's 100% right. Damara is great! This was my second time getting my hair cut by her and both times she's done a fantastic job and has been very cautious about not going too short. My new favorite salon! I was looking online for a salon to try out, and saw great reviews for ARCO. Their online booking system was super easy to use. The salon was absolutely beautiful in person and smelled amazing. I loved the steam treatment I got on my hair during the shampoo process. Gary totally killed it! I showed him a few inspiration photos on my phone of a long haircut with layers and curtain bangs. I don't have pictures of my end result but I am so happy with my haircut. I had been going to this salon for a few years now, I would use Ally as my stylist. Being the salon just reopened due to Covid-19 I made an appointment with Anthony being my stylist wasn't there. I had an appointment with ANTHONY. I wanted from brunette to deep red color. I showed him photos of what I wanted to achieve and he said no problem he could do this but I needed highlights before he put the color on. I've been going to salons for years but I put my trust in him being he is the salons master colorist! After 4 hours and 400.00 later, he didn't blow dry or even ask me if I wanted a blowout being I have curly hair he put product in and I left wet! When it finally dried I cried, it was orange especially were he put the highlights. I called to inform him of this, he told me to come back in next day I think? Btw this was done 2 weeks ago! He added a toner he said it would be fine now. Again it was not dried. When I got home and dried it, it was still very brassy a light red not near color I showed him. Called again, this time I was told I had to wait like 4 days because he wouldn't be in so when I went back the 3rd time Gary the owner was there each time I had to go back. I expected him to say something to me regarding my issues he said nothing. Anthony did ask his opinion the last time! I was told my hair wasn't taking the color wet but it had to be put on dry. When done again he said this is definitely the color you wanted and the third time is a charm! Quote. This time he put me under a drier to be able to see finished outcome. When it dried I admit it was darker than before but were the highlights were was light honestly I was not happy but what do you say? This is my 3rd time trying to fix this and honestly I'm writing this review because I needed to say what I was afraid to say in person. I washed my hair and the color literally rinsed out it seems! It's orange again and very brassy also my hair is damaged so bad it's like straw. My hair was healthy prior because I asked him before we began, I'm so disappointed in the owner Gary, it's his place his rep but as I said he never approached me to at least say we're sorry or some sort of comp' I will not be returning to ARCO I pay too much money to get my hair done and for staff to be passive aggressive. I even tipped him each visit to fix his mistakes. How can he be a master colorist and have this happen 3times. My advice be careful if you choose to go to Arco, $400.00 and I'm walking around with orange hair. I've posted photos on my YouTube channel and a very detailed review as this has devestated me!! Beware, you have been warned!! read more

I have to admit that I am terrified of hair stylists! This comes from years of going to supposedly upscale establishments and coming out so disappointed. I always had the same issue, they would cut off too much. I go in for a trim and come out with a cut and usually a bad one. Anyway, I decided to be brave and made an appointment with Maati, a stylist at ARCO Salon. I apprehensively took a seat and it was only a few minutes before this petite, very pretty little powerhouse approached me with a warm smile and introduced herself as Maati. She led me to the back where she proceeded to wash my hair and it was so soothing that I didn't want her to stop. Maati then gently detangled my hair while telling me that her hair was in a natural state all of her life. That made me feel much better. I figured if she had always been natural then she should know a thing or two about dealing with natural hair. After blow drying came the silk press. Maati took her time as she flat ironed my hair and when she finished it looked like silk. Finally, drum roll, the trim. This is when I usually freak out. Maati combed all of my hair back and proceeded to put a white sheet of paper under the bottom so that I could see the condition of the ends of my hair. She then advised as to what amount she felt should be trimmed and asked how much I would be comfortable with her trimming. I went along with her suggestion and she even trimmed along the bottom in a "u" shape instead of going straight across so that I would not lose much length. She then gave me loose curls and I was on my way. Maati did a fabulous job pressing, trimming and styling my hair, and guess what? No heat damage. I was so afraid that my hair would not revert and I would be stuck with a head full of damaged hair. So, with all that I just wrote, I really hope it helps someone to make the decision to get a silk press and trim by Maati. It's hard to find a good stylist but I definitely found one in her. read more

Anthony does magic! I've been a customer of Arco for months now. Anthony turned my hair from dark to blonde to the coolest mermaid blue I've ever seen. A lot of passersby and straphangers actually stopped and complimented my blue hair color. Coloring damages hair and in my case, my hair reacted poorly to the bleach. Anthony, being a Master Colorist with 25 years of experience, cares about my hair, thus he gave me complimentary treatment to strengthen my hair and the treatment worked wonders! Living in Queens, this salon is an hour hike from where I live but that doesn't stop me from frequenting Arco because I will never, ever let anybody else touches my hair. Ever. Oh, and they have outdoor patio too where they hold summer events! Did I also mention Gary always offers a free glass of champagne every time you walk in? read more

This was my very first time at the salon, and will certainly not be my last! I had an appointment for a silk press and cut with Maati and it came out incredible! I had to attend a military banquet the following day and Maati took time to pin up my hair and teach me how to take down and properly care for my hair for the days to come. I don't live in the city and drove over two hours just to come to this salon. The overall atmosphere, ambiance, and experienced staff made it well worth the visit. I only stand for incredible service and Maati along with the staff at ARCO went above and beyond! I have always been skeptic of having just anyone straighten my hair because of its texture (4a) and fear of heat damage. Maati truly has so much skill and only uses one pass of the flat iron to get the job done. In addition to that, ARCO uses wholesome vegan products that improve hair health so you know that your hair is in good hands. read more
