I have never written a negative review before, but this experience was so bad that I feel obligated to warn others. This was, without a doubt, the worst highlights I have ever had. Mary mentioned that she used to own a salon, and after this experience, I understand why she no longer does. The color is completely off, the highlights are uneven, and the overall result is just terrible. I have thin hair, and the haircut with multiple layers made everything worse-- and throughout the process I was literally being hit in the face with my own wet hair as she cut. It felt chaotic and unprofessional. The result was such a disaster that I had to go to another salon and pay a significant amount to fix it. The hairstylist there was shocked and kept repeating that some people simply should not be doing hair. I spent an entire week tying my hair up just to hide how bad it looked. To make matters worse, the payment experience was incredibly uncomfortable. I paid her immediately via Zelle and even tipped her in cash. Because the transfer wasn't instant (we have different banks), she became upset and made me stay while I called my bank to prove that I had paid. It was humiliating and unnecessary. Afterward, I sent her photos to show how disastrous the result was, and her only response was to tell me to book another appointment. There is no way I would trust her to fix this. Turns out there is an additional cost of $50 for toner and $20 for full highlights. The stylist was in a rush and my highlights came out extremely yellow, streaky, and asymmetrical. It was not close to what I asked for (I showed a picture of what I wanted) and it didn't look natural or blended like other highlights I've gotten. The front is very blonde with random highlights distributed unevenly that look almost unfinished. I paid for toner to help with the color and paid extra for full highlights all over and that is not what I got. I called to schedule a time for her to fix it and when I came in at the time of my appointment, she wasn't there. I called the stylist and she said she was on vacation and proceeded to tell me that she said a different day. I had a horrible experience. Mary cut my hair so short even after I explained how I wanted it cut. I cried and so did she! I have been a customer for 10 years. I chalked it up to a bad day and went back for a coloring and cut for my son's wedding!!!!! She knew it was for this special event. When she covered my whole head with color rather than just the roots, I said isn't this going to leave my ends darker. She always did just the roots and even covered the ends with conditioner. I don't know why she chose to do it this way. And sure enough, I was left with two tones! Dark ends and it looked horrible. The day of my son's wedding I had no choice but to wear a wig to cover the mess she made. She wanted me to come in so she could 'fix' it. Bleaching my hair is the only way it could be fixed, and I wasn't about to do that. After this experience, I never went back. Heard about this salon through Groupon. I had a lovely experience! Lauren applied the Coppola Keratin to my curly/kinky hair. At first, I was hesitant because she mentioned that she didn't have as much experience with kinky hair. Moreover, she did a great job! The keratin treatment made my hair easier to straighten and thankfully I didn't lose my curl pattern. We laughed, talked, played music and had a jolly time. Highly recommend! I've been coming here every 3 to 6 months for the past few years for brow waxing. I've spent the past 6 years and hundreds of dollars growing out my thin brows to the now popular "boy brow" (thanks to Cara Delevingne for the trend) and I occasionally get touch ups to clean up loose hairs and straighten the edges. I came in for a touch up from the owner, who has always been like a sweet aunt to me, and expected just my regular touch up. She waxed off almost a quarter inch of my inner brow. Let me repeat that: a quarter @#$%ing inch. I look like a fricken Larry from the Three Stooges. 6 years of growth, $300 of brow serums, and $700 of microblading down the drain in 2 minutes flat. Two of my microbladed hairs are now stranded randomly next to my brow and my brows look like they belong on a cheap 90s hooker who idolizes the Spice Girls. My facial expression now has a constant "puzzled" look due the new brow placement. I have been crying at the mirror for the past 12 hours trying to figure out what step to take to fix this and if it will cost me even more to recover the hairs now than it did before. I just ordered $200 of brow serum and scheduled an appointment with my microblading specialist 2 weeks from now. That's $550 down the drain to recover from this. My advice to the owner: keep up with the times and listen to your clientele. I haven't had this shape brow on my face since 2004 when I was 16 years old and wearing lime green eyeshadow. If you're in a rush to get somewhere and unable to listen to directions from the client, cancel the appointment. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

This is easy, and any colorist worth their salt should know what that looks like. Instead, I got a brassy, orange-hued red that I'm embarrassed to leave my apartment in. I expressed what I wanted. The colorist (Mary, who I believe is the salon owner) said "Oh, I have the perfect color!" - and then proceeded to tell me throughout the color, and then when she was rinsing, that I was just going to love it. Basically, it wasn't a safe environment for me to say "Actually, I don't" because she and literally EVERYONE in the salon kept telling me how nice it looked. Also? Mary didn't ask me about my color history, or how I treat my hair. She mansplained to me about how I should take care of my curls, never asking me once how I actually took care of my hair. I kind of feel bad for leaving a 1-star review, because Mary was really nice in that oppressive nice-auntie way. But 1) my color was absolutely not what I wanted 2) she did not listen to me at all 3) she didn't *attempt* to listen to me, or ask questions about my hair history, at any point in the session Maybe I'm spoiled because my colorist in Boston was the absolute best, but... this was bad. As a guy that isn't really interested in paying more than $20 for a haircut, From Head to Toe was quite a find. It's quite spacious inside and very comfortable. You can have your hair cut by Mary or Julie. Both ladies are lovely and are a lot of fun to talk to. Mary has amazing stories and can talk for hours. And a men's haircut will run you $15! You can't beat that. I only wish I needed a haircut more often. UPDATE: A year and a half later, a lot has changed. Julie is no longer there. The entire interior has been re-done (for the worse, in my opinion) and there are a lot more than two haircutters (I refuse to write "hairdresser"). And, unfortunately, the biggest change is that the $15 men's haircut is now $24. That's still way cheap for most salons but definitely way more than most barbershops. It's definitely made me change my opinion of the place a little bit. I'm now open to finding new places. The bottom line is that it takes 10 minutes or less to cut my hair. I'm so too picky. I just say cut it. To charge me $24 for less than 10 minutes in the chair seems silly. I miss the old days. It was much more intimate. The interior was kind of meh. I found Nicole that very same way and have been a customer of hers ever since (going on 2 years now). Please NEVER NEVER go to this hair salon. I would give 00000s if it was possible. My baby and I were ATTACKED by the owner, Mary Brescia at her "From Head to Toe" shop in Brooklyn on 7the avenue and 16 street. I have curly hair and for 7 years have done straightening treatments on my hair at different places and have always been happy with the treatments. In June 2017, when I decided to do it again, I saw a deal on Groupon for $99.When I went to confirm the price and ask how long the treatment will last I was told by Lauren (hairdresser at the shop), that for my hair type they will charge $175, and it will last up to 5 months. She told me not to buy the groupon deal, but pay them directly. I agreed to do the treatment as it is the average price for the treatment. I bought a keratin treatment from Lauren. During the treatment they told me I could only pay cash, and wouldn't give a receipt (after I already got the "treatment") The treatment didn't work and lasted only 7 days (instead of 4-5 months as they claimed). Later when I went to ask for my money back, they refused to give it back. Lauren refused to work on my hair again. Mary instead offered a Brazilian treatment, confirming that it will work 100% for 4 to 5 months. I agreed to take the offer. She was rude during the treatment and pulled my hair, burnt my forehead. When I asked her to be quick because I had my anniversary dinner, she threw the comb on the floor and started to shout. She told me that I have bad hair and it needs a cut. This was June 22nd. That treatment wasn't much better and failed the first time I washed it with the shampoo they sold me. I called her and told her that it didn't work. She threatened to call the police if I came to her shop and then she hung up the phone. I went with my baby (10 months). William, her co-worker was there. Seemed like a nice guy. Mary left after my call, refusing to see how my hair looks and have a polite conversation. After I showed William my curly hair, he also told me that, yes, the treatment did not work. He went outside to call Mary who later called me twice telling that she had a "family emergency." So I said that I would wait. She called again saying she would not give my money back. Then she came 5 minutes later shouting and threatening to hit me and my 10 months old daughter with a pink comb and then with the hairdryer and the fan. Then she lit a cigarette and wanted to burn my arm and harm the baby. William had to hold her. She shouted "hit me bitch" several times. She wanted to pull my baby out of the stroller --while she was crying! When I went outside to calm the baby , she threw away the stroller to the street. and then brought it back when I told her police will see what she did. She then went outside started to shout that I hit her. And told William to leave as soon as I called the police. After I called the police, she called them too and made an untrue statement that I hit her twice. Mary mocked my English, showed me the middle finger, called me crazy bitch, the f word, claimed that I am high, that my baby and I are ugly. Terrible person, who would throw a stroller in the street and shout, while telling people that I hit her? When the police came and questioned her, she made an untrue statement that I hit her. When the police asked her where, she couldn't answer. Just said that I didn't leave. When the police asked her if she threw the stroller out in the street, she denied it at first and then said that it was the only way to get me out. Pulling the stroller with the baby on it? The baby would have been injured if I didn't take her out. This hair salon is terrible. read more

So I found this place here on yelp and it said they gave great cuts to guys with curly hair... Well they were right on point. Nicole cut my hair and did a superb job on it. I know nothing about hair but with her cutting it, I felt like I was on a what not to wear tv show. Along with a great cut, she gave me tips on styling conditioner.... And a bunch of stuff to help. Now I most likely will follow this half heartedly it was still awesome. She was super personable and really easy to talk to durin the cut (which was like 15 minutes). I went for a Keratin treatment- and was left to bake it off under a hairdryer for three 20 minute cycles while the hairdresser attended to a handful of other clients that were booked at the same time- as a result while she was straigtening my hair the Keratin was flaking off- still i left the "treatment " in for three days as advised then washed out using Keratin shampoo- and there was absolutely no change in my hair- My hair was still curly and frizzy, exactly as it was when i went in - I went back to complain, and they said the treatment was supposed to be like that.
