I had my hair done by Lainie on Sunday. What a fabulous job she did!! It had been a while since Covid came about, so my hair was.... well, not do good. (I not only colored it myself but I cut it too out of frustration, lol) it looks beautiful and EVERYONE has been raving about the color.... thanks Lainie! I'll be back! read more

The Owner Laine is such a talented hair stylist & endearing person who engages with you in a haircut/style that works best for your type of hair when your not sure. She gave me a fun and funky pixie hair style that I love and always get complaints by others too. :) Even as it has grown out a bit the style/ shape still looks good. A testament of how she knows how to cut layers for certain types of hair~that's a talented hair stylist! I highly recommend Laine's Brooklyn Thairapy Salon! read more

I love coming to see Lainie. She always does a great job and the end result always looks better than I envisioned. Also Lainie is kind, gentle and professional. So lucky to have found her! read more

Lainie is excellent l. She has been cutting our son's curly hair for almost a decade and never fails to get it just the way he likes it. As he has grown into a teenager she keeps his curls looking great. Our other son, who has straight hair, likes to color it. Lainie's sense of how to layer color is great. His hair always looks special. Can't recommend highly enough. read more

Just recently moved into the area and needed a haircut. I came across when in Rome not too far from where I live. This place has a great environment and the staff are easy going. I got my haircut from Esther, which she did an amazing job on. I'm usually a picky person when It comes to getting my haircut, but she understood what I wanted and took her time with my hair. Excellent place and I'll be back again soon! read more

Great little salon with friendly stylists. I came here for a blowout. It costs a tad more than a place like Drybar or BDry, but the place is so so convenient for me that I'm willing to pay the extra. The lady who washed my hair was sooo great. Honestly, they need to have services where you just get your hair washed. It's so relaxing and the shampoo and conditioner smelled like eucalyptus and it had a wonderful cooling sensation. She also spent a good amount of time massaging my head and neck. They actually had two stylists working on my hair. I asked for some body and loose waves and that's what I got. It looked very cute and but didn't last as long as blowouts I get from other places, but my hair tends to be finicky like that. Glad to have this place in the neighborhood and I'll be back. read more

Awesome haircut place. I had my haircut for 15 years in Manhattan (moving from uptown to downtown at a few places), and I was nervous about trying somewhere new. This place is the best haircut I've had in NYC! They are very smooth, listen to what I want, and are sharp with the details. I had my wife and kid go here later. The kids haircuts are by far the best in the area, and we have tried several other places. They make my son look more handsome with a cut that would fit an adult. They use a dry sponge to brush away the hairs from his face. Very smooth. Once I saw one of the people here cutting a woman's very long hair. She had put a towel on the floor and was kneeling down to get a better view while snipping away. Impressive. All in all a fantastic place. read more

I went to the salon to get my haircut I'm usually not sure how to get across how I want my haircut probably because I'm not to sure myself how I want it I was booked with a stylist name lainie she was very helpful helping me figure out what would work best with my everyday lifestyle And what would look good with my facial shape I haven't been this happy with a haircut in a long time. Thank you so much and the wax she sold me was awesome see you soon read more

Wow. I just had a haircut with Lainie, and it's fabulous. She did my color too ... equally fabulous! She listened to everything I said both about my haircut and color history, and also about what level of styling I'm going to do on a regular basis (or not do, as the case may be!), and she gave me a cut and color job that works on all levels. She is also lovely and kind and her salon is charming. Also worth noting - she took great precautions for safety with COVID. Door open, air filter on, temperature check, sanitize hands before coming in, only the two of us in the salon, everything sanitized in between appointments. Hopefully, soon, this part of the review will be dated, but I think that for people looking for a hair salon right now, it's a big deal that she is doing such a thorough job making sure that everyone is safe while getting their hair done! read more

It amazes me how bad a haircut I received yesterday from Lainie at When In Rome salon. The photos I'm posting with my review speak volumes on their own, but let me assure you that this is one of the worst haircuts I can remember receiving in many years. The biggest failure is the incompetence at blending the short sides with the longer hair on top, which you can see has resulted in a longer "flap" of hair on my right side, creating a visible line where the hair hasn't been blended. Additionally, I have a spot on my crown where I'm balding, and the hairs around that area in the back are long and unblended as well, giving the bald spot added emphasis and a messy appearance around its edge. The top is also too long relative to the shortness of the sides, which appear to have been trimmed too short in some spots compared to others. I'd been very careful, before Lainie started, to explain how important the blending was and how the hair in the back near my bald spot needed to be shorter, but it seems she was unable to skillfully cut a balding man's hair--which, I'm sorry to say, I didn't notice till I washed it at home. I will now need to pay a very good barber to fix this awful cut, and I will never return to When In Rome. read more

Lainie did a beautiful job! All my friends said my haircut looks really cute. I was impressed of how efficient the process were and usually I got hair on clothes after a hair cut but today it was spotless! Will return again! read more

I've been seeing Lanie and the team here for a year or so (cut/blowdry, no color), and have always been pleased. Standard pricing (for the area &cheaper than getting a cut in Manhattan), higher-end product selection & a consistent cut. Can't recommend them enough. As someone who is a not originally from NY, it's taken me almost 10 years to find the right hair salon, and I'm so so SO glad I've found Lanie. read more

I discovered When in Rome shortly after moving to the neighborhood in the summer of 2016. I have color and cut done every 3-4 months by Lainey who is wonderful! The color always look natural and holds up well (a challenge with red). The salon is spotless and I can't remember ever having to wait for my appointment. The staff is super friendly and I adore Lainey who is very personable and outgoing. She is a real professional - she is a highly skilled colorist and stylist; I trust her opinion implicitly. I 110% recommend When in Rome -- I no longer live in Carroll Gardens but wouldn't even consider looking for a new salon. I am a very happy customer! read more

Went here for the first time recently to get some highlights and was underwhelmed. Stylist did not speak English well and did something totally different than I wanted, not horrible but definitely not what I asked for. When I tried to explain what went wrong she just got more confused. Prices were high and the vibe was sad and empty. Not what I'm looking for in a neighborhood salon. read more

Perfect little salon in the neighborhood. Owner Laine is amazing. I go to her for haircuts and blow outs- she really knows how to work magic with my hair. read more

I have been going here and to Lainie for quite a few years now. The salon is always spotless and am always greeted warmly. Lainie is very sweet and couldn't be more professional. She takes her time to make sure every hair is in place before I walk out those doors. I am never disappointed in anyway after a visit. I trust Lainie to have my angled cut in perfect shape everytime. Go here, you will not be disappointed! read more

They are very good - but charge just as much as 5th Ave Salons- 125.00 for single process when Red Door charges 75.00 = will not be going back read more

Great to go to for blow outs! I live in the area and go often. I recommend going. The owner is also very nice.

I just moved to the nieghborhood and decided to check out this little gem of a salon. They did a fab job blowing out my VERY curly and hard to manage hair. I'll be back again soon! read more

Have been getting my hair cut with Lena for many years, and happy to see her at this new cozy spot. Super bright and clean place with great conversation and - of course - the best haircut! Also totally affordable, if it even needs to be said :) read more

Great blow dry from Esther. She was thorough, and kept checking in to make sure it was to my liking. I was having photos taken the next day, so she didn't put a lot of product in and my hair held up beautifully. In fact, my hair help up for 6 days! read more

I just moved to the neighborhood and past this store a number of times. My wife's birthday was coming up so I treated her to a haircut and color. I am not an expert in women's hair, but my wife couldn't be more happy and you know what they say, happy wife = happy life! The staff there are very nice and welcoming. The pricing seemed to be on par with the are and the shop was clean and bright. The woman who did the coloring did a great job. My wife said she feels 10 years younger. Great experience. read more

Communication was very poor even though I carefully explained what I wanted before hand. I guess I just have to wait a few months for my hair to grow back! Unless you're looking for a barber, I wouldn't recommend this salon. read more

Excellent hair stylist and personable customer service. Pleasant location and down to earth prices. 100% recommended!

I've been getting my hair cut by Lainie for 9 years! After years of getting my hair butchered by salons from Carrol Gardens to Williamsburg I found Lainie and she saved me. I will follow her to the ends of the earth. She's the best. She cuts my wife's hair now and she will cut my sons when he starts growing some. read more

Read the reviews and it's right by my apt and so I went for my first time today to Lainie. I am so picky and she did the best job. She listened to everything I said and made it look better than ever. She was super nice, as was everyone there, and the salon was clean and pretty. They offered me coffee, tea, etc. and i had a great time! My haircut and blow dry look awesome! read more

Brooklyn Thairapy - Lainie gave me an amazing haircut and blow dry! - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

While in Brooklyn for our brother's wedding, we booked appointments here for 1 haircut and 3 up dos. While they did provide us with appointments on short notice, the charge was a bit deceitful. Haircuts include shampoo and blow dry which I did not require. Additionally, our updos were just some basic curls and a braid half up half down. Even at that uncomplicated service, we were up charged $35. Additionally, multiple advertisements around the salon offered 15% new clients. All 3 of us were new clients but because one treated the other 2 to the bill, no discount was offered to them. We generously tipped the hairdressers and despite a call to resolve the unfair payment issues, the salon would not comply. This $65 discrepancy reflects dishonorably on this salon for services that were simple and standard in a salon that was otherwise empty on a busy Saturday in Brooklyn. For the inflated cost, I would recommend a more professional salon elsewhere in the area. read more

My daughters and I have started coming here for blowouts because we live close by. Everyone is friendly and fun music to enjoy. Head massage during wash is wonderful. Blow dry for long hair lasted for days. Great addition to neighborhood. Easy to schedule appointment. Selfishly I hope they don't get too busy so that it's hard to get convenient appointments. read more

I've gone to Lainie for a while to cut and color my hair and always have a terrific experience when I go. She is attentive, really listens to what I want and executes it beautifully. She's a great colorist and I always get compliments on my hair color after going to her. read more

I walked into When In Rome in a state of total crisis: my hair had tied itself into a knot the size of a baseball and I thought I'd have to chop it all off. Kristin and Lainey welcomed me right in, took out all their best tools, and patiently and kindly spent an hour untangling the knot. They got it out! It was an act of absolute genius. A few days later I came back for a haircut, to trim the ends that got damaged in the knot. I got a beautiful cut that I love, super affordable, wonderful service, and now Kristin and Lainey are two of my favorite ladies in the neighborhood. This will become your hair's new home! You will love When In Rome. read more

Lainie is a wonderful hairstylist . She did a miracle with my hair. My old salon was sold and she fixed what I ruined.

This review is long overdue. This is second time I have had my hair done by Esther and I will never go to anyone else. When I moved into this neighborhood about a year ago, I tried another hair salon and had the worst hair cut of my life. I thought it was unfixable without cutting my hair very short but Esther saved my hair! I went to her a week later and she was honest and upfront about the fact that she could blend and make it look better but would need it to grow out some before it could be completely fixed. She did a great job blending the layers in the meantime and it was livable for the next few months. I just went back for the second time and requested her again, and loved what she did this time as well! She is friendly, professional, and great at what she does. The blowout was great too! I had so many compliments the next day. Definitely love this salon and Esther and won't be going anywhere else. read more
