I had high expectations when I walked in the get my hair colored and cut. First let me tell you that my hair is very short and thin . The dye was a single process dark brown color just like I already had, barely any roots out. The cut was just a trim a small amount off the bottom. It took hours because the woman was doing someone else's hair also , apparently she is only in on weekends and has her all of her clients that. When it was finally over I went to the front to pay and was charged $200 !!!!! for absolutely nothing, I actually could have done it myself at home. My hair looked the same as it did when I came in the place. NEVER AGAIN ! I feel I was ripped off. read more

I absolutely was a client of your salon, with you as my stylist; I first visited a few years back, found the cut acceptable, but decided at that time to go back to another salon that was more convenient for me. You talked a bit about living in NJ; your dog is always in the shop. I decided to try your salon again. I was well aware of your pricing, and had no issue with that when I made the appt as I prefer to invest in a good hair salon for myself. I mentioned the price in my initial review in order to point out that this was not a cheap salon where it would not be unexpected for service and cut to be poor. I anticipated a positive experience and good haircut, and was let down. I am certain of what I overheard you saying; you seemed to be sort of commenting to yourself, so perhaps you didn't realize that it was audible. You were at least 2-3 chairs down the aisle from where I had been seated. In any case, the problem is that this reflects a negative attitude towards clients. I realize that in any industry, those we service can get under our skin at times as we are all human. But when it seeps through into the work day, then it's highly unlikely to just be a one-off attitude. Hopefully this review can provide opportunity for reflection. Good afternoon, Today is September 30 th 2023 my daughter scheduled for an appointment in which from when we first entered not even making it through the door fully the man was very very rude and disrespectful and was definitely racist. I guess because I am Latina and it is white supremacy it is sad how I was getting scolded as if I was in an elementary school getting told to lower down my phone call as I just received it and was trying to execute the conversation. I had such a great first experience at Salon Phoenix! Firstly, I'll say that sometimes it's hard to find really good customer service in Sheepshead Bay (ahem), but even from the first phone call with Salon Phoenix, I felt so welcomed and taken care of. They're really, really nice - everyone there! They asked me to come in for a (free!) hair consultation in order to assess what the best process and treatments would be for my hair based on the look I was asking/hoping for. Pricing is very fair considering how much time they are willing to invest exclusively to you and your appointment. Jennifer C. was wonderful and very honest - she didn't push me to get anything done that day, or even that week. In fact, she told me to work on getting as much color of my remaining pink dye out over a few weeks, so that we can then transition to the best and most natural color. I felt like she was looking out for me and had my best interests in mind. Then, when the actual appointment day came, it was a blast. As mentioned, everyone was really sweet, from receptionist to assistant stylist :) They offered tea or coffee right away (and even champagne at some point, but that might be a Saturday-only thing hahaha). As if that weren't enough they also have the cutest lil dog that was clearly hard at work, going around and making everyone's day just that much better. Jennifer did a fantastic job, I was so happy with how my natural, rich chocolatey brown came out! Just came back from my first appointment at this place and couldnt' be happier. I just moved to the neighbourhood and was looking for a good salon that can take on my edgy short cut. I got Sonia, and she was amazing! I showed her a bunch if pictures and explained what i wanted and she got me right away. She would show me every stage of the cut and give great suggestions. Love, love, love my haircut. Its assimetrical, short bob on one side and undecut on the other. Sonia gave me exactly what i wanted and was a very sweet! I highly recommend this salon and understand other high reviews. It is clean, beautiful, staff is friendly and on point. Will be back for my balayage now :)) read more

I'm extremely picky when it comes to my hair--I'd been going to the same hairdresser for about 18 years but I moved to the US so I needed to find someone else. After getting a very disappointing haircut once in Manhattan I was hesitant who to choose and I came across Salon Phoenix. The location is great as it's quite close to me. I messaged them and sent them pictures about my current hair and the style I wished to have before making an appointment and they replied to my emails very fast and were really polite. I got an appointment with James who was also polite and kind and I felt like he really cared about what I was saying and he really wanted to make sure that I get what I want. He also explained many things about my hair which I had no idea about and also told me things (like what kinds of products to use, how to use them, etc.) that were super useful. Eventually he recommended a slightly different style than I usually have but when he finished my hair I was absolutely satisfied and pleasantly surprised. What's even better is that I can easily style my hair now and it's that exact style that looks fabulous even right after I get out of bed. My husband is also in love with my new hair--maybe he likes it even more than I do. :-) The salon itself was also stylish, modern and decorated with good taste. My stylist Sonia, she's amazing!! Mind you I have very thick wavy hair. My style is simple.. short bob haircut. She gave me EXACTLY what I asked for!!! I wish I would've had a better experience with Jennifer as other reviews said they did, but I didn't. Won't deny that she did do a good job with my hair cut and blowout. She did listened to me as to what cut I wanted & how I wanted my hair to be styled. And I'm thankful she didn't do what she wanted or messed up my hair because I'm very picky to where I go to get my hair done. But to tell a client that the color we want to process our hair is "unrealistic " or high maintenance" because we already have thick and dark hair was kinda disappointing. I wasn't asking for a platinum color or to be blonde blonde lol. Didn't even showed her a picture with highlights because that IS a lot of maintenance considering I've had my years with highlights before. I've also had my hair pink and yes, even blonde and it WAS possible. I guess you just gotta a really good hair dresser to know what you're doing and how it will be done. Overall, it was an ok experience, but I don't see myself going back to this salon. read more

I'm one of those people who had the worst of both worlds when it comes to hair. Frizzy, thin, fine curly hair. Over the last ten years it has sustained a lot of heat damage, straightening treatments, box color and even DIY highlights. My mantra for many years was "it's only hair, it'll grow back". I was reckless with my hair. Last summer I resorted to box braids--long golden braids and I looked amazing. When I removed the braids-I notes that my hair had thinned out more. This summer, I tried the box braids again and my hair thinned out a lot more and my hair was now dry and brittle. I decided I had to cut it very short and join the natural hair movement. I went to a salon offering diva cuts. I left very disappointed. I lived with the haircut for two days then called Phoenix. From the first point of contact there was the utmost professionalism and thoughtfulness for my concerns. The gentleman told me to bring photos of cuts I was interested in, if I had any. I was scheduled an appt with James, the owner, the next day. I arrived to the salon and was greeted by a friendly receptionist who introduced herself. James ushered me to his chair and asked me questions about listened to my concerns with genuine interest. I showed him the photo of the style I wanted. He ran his fingers through my hair as we talked and I knew then I was in good hands. I had it washed and even the man who washed my hair I introduced himself and made me feel comfortable. As James worked on my hair, he was explaining what he was doing every step of the haircut. He observed how my hair curled and gave me the best haircut I ever had. I waited a week to make sure I could actually wash and duplicate what he did and I can. I received so many compliments from coworkers, neighbors and family all week. My hair looks full and healthy and very sassy. James is a hair magician and I'm lucky I found him! read more

I've been going to Salon Phoenix for years. Even though I moved to Long Island, I still make the trip back to Brooklyn JUST to use Salon Phoenix. THis place is like going home- like family and I've never had a bad cut, color or keratin. On the contrary, I always leave there feeling so good about my very fine hair! I've done the discounted Keratin through groupon and such at other places. They do not compare in quality to the products used at Salon Phoenix which uses a premium keratin product called Cezanne. It's really worth it. I usually use James and Jenna for my services. I would, however use anyone there in a pinch. The staff is incredibly friendly and professional. The salon is spacious and immaculate. Nicky, the tiny mascot (poodle) is almost like an emotional support dog. I always try to remember to bring him a treat! read more

Went on yelp, found this spot with amazing reviews, and decided to pop in on the off-chance they could squeeze me in for something. The girl at the front desk was just lovely, and so was the owner. Don't be fooled with the $45 with Sonia hype. This is just to bring you into the salon and get your money. This woman cut a chunk of my hair off and curled it so I wouldn't notice. She then complemented me on how wonderful my hair is after she was done with the cut, knowing she messed up. How disgusting? I didn't notice this disaster until after I got home a washed my hair. The salon was nice and offered to have me come in to see a "master stylist" to fix it but I came there with long hair down to my lower back and left with an extremely short cut so I declined. I received full money back however I miss my long hair and now have a weird/ miserable cut. read more

Until my appointment with Jennifer yesterday, I would have given Phoenix a rating of 5 stars. I have been a customer for nearly 20 years. I have been so pleased with them that I trust them with my son who has sensory issues (James is his stylist). It looks like the salon was short staffed yesterday, and consequently Jennifer washed my hair in addition to the cutting and blowdrying that she normally does. She managed to get my back cold and wet from the washing on this December day, but she didnt initially own up to it, and was rude and dismissive. When i persisted, she finally blowdried my back and gave me a dry apron. She also said that she would try to rush the haircut, which is not what a customer wants to hear. The haircut ended up being very nice, but Jennifer needs to learn better people skills. read more

I decide to give it a go and try to build a relationship with one salon instead of randoms along the avenue. The greeting is great. They take your jacket and offer coffee or tea. The vibe is inviting where sometimes hair salons can give off a snobby feel. The salon is also very clean. My first year I was taken care of by the owner James who gave me a nice clean cut and blow out each time. More recently my visit was with Jenna who is super sweet and talented. I barely toy with my hair but I wanted to put some highlights in and she knew exactly what I needed- nothing too dramatic but something uplifting. I found Salon Phoenix on yelp and was impressed by the reviews. I called at 11:30am to make an appointment for the same day and they were able to fit me in with Jenna at 6:15pm. When I arrived, the salon is very clean and staff if welcoming. I am satisfied with my haircut (cut 2 1/2 inches off and some layering), but the only issue I have is that I was charged $5 to curl my hair. I would have forgo the curling if I had been asked and notified about the charge. Jenna just went ahead and did it. If you want a happy customer, the key is to make sure they are aware of additional charges and services. read more

Best salon in the South Brooklyn area! My fiancee has been consistently getting the perfect haircut from Sonia. His hair is difficult to work with and she always does an immaculate job. I have been a client for a number of years. From the moment you walk into the salon you are greeted by a truly genuine team. The atmosphere is like going to a good friends house. Most times you'll find a selection of coffee tea water and cakes and or cookies. Before having it cut, I receive a very soothing shampoo and scalp massage. James has been cutting my hair for a number of years. He has gotten me through a number of different looks as i have lost some hair over the years. This was my second visit to the salon and I was reminded again why I returned! Christina was my stylist and she was extremely attentive throughout the entire process. During the consultation, she really made the effort to understand exactly what I wanted. I got the balayage with a trim with blowout. Starting by pulling up some photos and bouncing ideas off of me, she spent nearly 3 1/2 hours trying to recreate my vision. There was absolutely no feeling of being rushed and she followed up with me throughout the entire session to make sure everything was to my liking. Salon pheonix has the most attentive and friendliest staff I've ever had the pleasure of meeting by far.
