I have been going to Salvo for 2 years now and he has absolute hands of gold. I won't let anyone else cut my hair. I have in the past and I was definitely underwhelmed. Once you go to Salvo, you won't want to go anywhere else. He has the patience of a saint (I get super scared anytime I have to cut my hair) and always does the most amazing work. He's a perfectionist. He's transformed my hair quite a few times. From caramel balayage to blonde, there is no one better. I have converted my friends to believers as well - I have even recommended my male friends to get haircuts by Salvo and they too are believers now. His work is nothing short of art. In regards to the service in the salon, Salvo has only the best employees. I have neck issues so I can't bend backwards into the sink for washing, but his staff is always friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The place is always spotless and the receptionists are always professional. If you are driving here, there is convenient street parking out front. If you are venturing here from the city, no worries... it is totally worth the trip. I am stunned to receive this response from the owner. I walked in before my appointment for a consultation and met with the owner. I never mentioned cutting my hair and I never met the stylist he paired me with. During my consultation he assured me that the stylist who he had in mind specializes in curly hair, in hind sight this should have been a huge red flag but I had my mind set on trying something different from my occasional visit to Dominican salons. I was very transparent with the owner when I said that I wanted a wash and dry set, however, when I came in for my appointment the stylist had a table with scissors laid out. Again, this should have been another major red flag especially since I do not tend to allow strangers to handle my hair and much less cut it; but at last, I was determined to try something different and I paid the price for that leap. I know that you want to set a positive image for your establishment, but this was a cheap attempt to redeem this visit. Why on earth would I let you or anyone else handle my hair again, that is insane! I am sure that you have a clientele that you do right by and you can try to redeem your ratings with them but I find it disrespectful and distasteful that you would offer me a freebie when I never asked you for that. This trendy new salon is conveniently located on 86th street and 7th avenue. ** Plenty of street parking around Dyker Golf course ** which is a ++ in Brooklyn ! Super friendly front desk staff that makes you feel welcome (unlike many other upscale salons in the area). I came in with a picture of the color I wanted and my stylist/colorist Sal (the owner) duplicated it exactly. As always he gave me his honest opinion and didn't try to talk me out of something to make it easier on himself ! I was seen on time and within a few hours I went from a high lighted blonde to a fiery red bombshell :) Sal is always willing to accommodate my crazy requests and is able to keep up with my seasonal color changes without damaging my hair. I'd slacked on hair maintenance and it finally got to the point where it pissed me off enough to do something about it. After searching groupon, I bought deal for cut, blow dry, and single process color. Yesterday, I redeemed my voucher and I honestly couldn't be happier with my experience. My hair is long, but the ends were extremely dried out and damaged. Also, I'd dyed my hair a darkish red over a year ago and it had grown out considerably and also faded. Not a good look. Immediately upon entering the salon, I was warmly greeted by Salvo. Less than two minutes later, the hair stylist, Irene, introduced herself and ushered me to her station. I explained that I wanted to keep my hair as long as possible while getting rid of the dead ends and also dye my hair to match my roots. She told me that the color portion of my groupon was only for roots, not my entire head. This confused me because, in my experience at any other salon, "single color process" means that one color is applied all over. I told Irene to just skip the color in that case and to just give me a cut. She asked if I'd maybe like just a couple of foils to help blend my roots to the bottom of my hair. After inquiring about price, I learned that a partial (half-head) of highlights would be $110, or $10 per foil if I opted to get just a few. I decided that I should just go with the partial head of highlights; I hadn't gotten my hair done in forever and I desperately wanted to fix the color. Irene spoke to Salvo and they adjusted the price by deducting the single process color I'd already paid for. So it only ended up being $74. I really appreciated this, ESPECIALLY since I hadn't even tried to haggle price or complain about the confusion as to what "single process color" means. It showed me that they really care about their customers, which is a huge deal to me. My hair is naturally a very light brown, and Irene gave me the most beautiful, natural looking blonde highlights. It really looks like I spent a few hours in the sun rather than a few hours in a salon chair; I'm so in love with it. The highlights also really helped blend my base with the reddish ends that I'm growing out. Irene is also clearly very knowledgable and skilled; she used two different types of dye for my natural base and for my processed ends to make sure they ended up the same color. My cut is also fantastic; Irene did exactly what I asked her to do. She trimmed the dead ends, added some long layers to give body, and framed the front. When it was all done, I couldn't believe how shiny and healthy my hair looked. I've already made another appointment and will definitely be recommending this salon to my friends. read more

I was really disappointed by my visit. Things started out so promising--everyone was very friendly, nice, and they have the best cappuccinos ever. I used a Groupon for a brazilian keratin express treatment, just to test the waters. I figured if it went well, I would invest in the full-blown treatment. I do have very, very thick and curly hair and most stylists are daunted by how curly it gets after it is washed. I usually apologize for it, but that wasn't necessary here. The girl who washed my hair and the stylist were both extremely sweet and told me I had beautiful hair. My hair stylist even asked if she could take a before picture, which got my hopes up. I was thinking that meant she was very confident that she would do a great job, and then, you know...take an after picture. She never even bothered to take the after picture though, because my hair came out so terribly. She just blow dryed it haphazardly as fast as she could and didn't even bother flat ironing it. She told me I was done and walked away. Didn't ask me what I thought or anything. I was a little dumbfounded. I do realize that I paid for the treatment, not necessarily a styling or blowout, so I figured I could go home and try to flat iron it myself. I still have a suspicion that my hair was extremely poorly done and they would normally never let anyone out of the salon looking like that, because when I went to the receptionist to try to get change to tip with, she looked at me in surprise for a second before looking away. She seemed embarrassed for me. I'm guessing this place is great if you just forgo Groupon and pay full price. It's a shame though, because now I don't feel comfortable enough to go back and try that. read more

I always give credit where credit is due and Salvo Capelli Salon deserves a lot of credit! I called to schedule my appointment and I think I spoke to Elisa (?). I made sure I mentioned I have a Groupon voucher to redeem and her tone did not change at all!! Her voice remained friendly and accommodating unlike the other Bay Ridge Salon receptionists that sound almost disgusted when you mention Groupon. By the way, the receptionist is just as lovely in person as she was on the phone. My scheduled stylist was Ana. She asked questions, I showed her a few pictures, she answered my questions, and she was focused on me. I felt absolutely comfortable with her and she did exactly what I asked. Ana is a lovely person and a great stylist! Overall, the atmosphere and the energy in the salon is welcoming and friendly. They even offered us clients pizza just because! BEST HAIRCUT EVER! I've always thought a men's haircut was just something that had to get done...keep it short, keep it tight. I never actually paid attention to men's hairstyles since my curly hair had to stay short. After years of being jealous of other men's cuts, I decided to go for a different cut than I've ever had (disconnect, etc.). I bought a groupon for haircut and single process color for 72 $. When I got there the front desk lady told me that "single process" means touch up of the roots only. I was baffled. Never I heard that before. My hair are 2 shades lighter than my roots( results of previous lightenings) and I just wanted to even out the color which means to dye my hair my natural color, not any special request here. My roots were not even visible, they are less than 1 cm showing. For some reasons that I don't fully understand they wanted to match my roots with my lighter color of my hair( which I didn't wanted, and obviously would have required more work from them than just to dye my hair in my natural dark. And they charged my groupon before siting me in the chair, and told me that if I wanted to dye my hair I have to pay 25$. Totally a rip off. So clearly for whatever reason they didn't wanted to do my hair. In my end, if they don't want to dye my hair I definitely don't want them to touch and dye my hair either. I asked them to proceed with haircut and the blow dry. It was not worth my time to talk to them any longer. Dear salon There are things called customer service, integrity, truthfulness and honestly. As customers we expect to have these together with hair services you offer. Actually they are more important than a haircut. I am never coming back to your salon. read more

Love them. Got my hair done today from a Groupon deal I'd purchased that was about to expire. They let me come in right away, and everyone was super courtesy from the person on the phone I booked my appointment with, to the woman that washed my hair, to my hairstylist (Anna). At this point, I'm such a frequent deal user that I've been to a number of different hair salons, and I was just really happy with this one. All the things that I look for were top notch- the premises were clean, the music wasn't loud or obnoxious, I wasn't left sitting in the chair for a ridiculous amount of time, and most importantly, the service providers were down to earth and NOT chatting with each other while doing my hair (or making me feel like I'm just a hair mannequin). Anna completely understood my hair type, my complaints about it, and what I was looking for, and my hair came out PERFECT. Oh, and they didn't push high-priced hair product at me or give me a thousand business cards with "50% off next visit!" (the desperate "please come back" or "we hope this makes up for ways we may have sucked!") on my way out. A real classy place, they don't need the discount cards to make me come back. read more
