I had an appointment booked for a haircut at 11 AM. Upon entering the shop, a man greeted me and let me know the owner was not in yet. While waiting, he was able to wash and blow dry my hair. I then waited 30 more minutes in the chair before the barber nonchalantly strolled in. I wanted my hair cut a specific way: layers with face-framing pieces similar to a wolf/hush cut. I had many images saved to show the barber what I wanted/liked, but after seeing the first two images, he said, "So just a lot of layers," and dismissed me. They also mainly speak Mandarin with minimal English. Overall, my experience was not the best after not listening to the customer and making me wait for an appointment. I was looking for a hair salon that specializes in Asian hair and came across Xsquared. I also saw that they were having a balayage promotion which is what I was looking for. I wanted to go lighter for a change and Justin made sure it was an ombré style to make it look the most natural. I could tell the attention to detail was there as they checked on my color periodically to make sure it was just right. As for the cut, I asked for curtain bangs, a trim (had bad split ends), and long layers. I've been wanting to go super light for a few years now, but the past couple of hair salons I've been to weren't able to do that for me without compromising the integrity of my hair (which is understandable) or were deterred by how hard it was to lift my hair because it stayed orange after two rounds. My friends recommended this place to me because they were able to go super light despite the discoloration from previous bleach and dye jobs in their hair. I checked out their Instagram and was impressed by the photos and sent them a dm to schedule an appointment. For those wondering, I was quoted $310. Now the thing I want to make clear, I wasn't too hell bent on getting an even bleach job. I just wanted my hair as light as possible without it melting off. I was there for a total of 6-7ish hours, but boy, was it worth it! I was super pleased with the color of my hair. The team that worked on my hair were two people and they were incredibly diligent and sweet. I appreciated how super meticulous they were and how often they checked on my hair while I had the bleach in. I had my roots growing in and I was just impressed by how light they were able to life my hair to a white blonde with just one round of bleach. They asked if I wanted to do another round of bleach because the middle part of my hair didn't lift evenly (again, from a previously botched dye job at a different salon, nOT THEIR FAULT BECAUSE GETTING AN EVEN BLEACH LIFT ON DYED HAIR IS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT), I said no because I didn't care too much LOL Afterwards, they continued to be really meticulous with putting pink dye on my head, making sure all parts were covered, and stayed meticulous even with my haircut. Something to note is that they also respected my wishes to only trim my hair about an inch. I probably should have cut off more but I was too attached to my long hair. I know some people have had stylists that cut off more hair than they'd ask, but that was not the case here. They were very respectful of my wishes and delivered amazing results! Now, for those of you curious: How damaged is my hair? Considering that I went from super black hair to a pastel pink (the Asian folks know how impressive this is), it is very damaged LMAO But again, I expected this and, honestly, I have naturally thick and healthy hair so I'm convinced I got off a little more easy. I've been taking care of it with hair serums and really conditioning hair masks throughout the week and it really helps. As long as you have the proper hair care routine, the damage doesn't show as much. All that to say, I am in love with my hair and I'll definitely be coming back!! My hair was honestly dead especially the middle to the bottom ends and I didn't mind what color they chose for me as long as it didn't kill my hair, I was okay with it. I've been to xcellent hair salon, new hair salon & J1 hair salon and this one is by far the cheapest one out of all the ones that I have been to. I had gone to a different salon before to do balayage and they used black on my roots. Jason explained to me that because of that I would not be able to lighten those parts light enough for the colors I wanted. He used this color remover before applying the bleach in order to try to save the health of my hair. He also used a bunch of olaplex because my hair was already so damaged. Found this place after seeing a few of my friends come here for color. I was set on running with black hair for the rest of time. However, Justin was having a promo for balayage+olaplex, and I was tempted to dye my hair again. So I decided to give them a try since I've never been here. Justin and his assistant was very attentive. They both pay very close to detail from doing my balayage to my haircut. Because I had box dyed my hair black, I wasn't expecting much of a nice outcome, however, Justin was able to work his magic with the bleaching process to get the ash brown I wanted without the brass/streaky-ness. He's VERY VERY knowledgeable of what he's doing. He doesn't just tell his assistant what to do, but also teaching her techniques and why it should be done a certain way to achieve the best results. At the end, I was able to achieve the ash brown I prayed for through a 5 hour process. My hair is still so soft and doesn't feel damaged at all! For the haircut, he was SUPER gentle! His attention to detail was superb and made sure all lengths were even on both sides. His cutting technique is also quite different from all the other salons I've been to, it was unique and I'd say it came out way better than I expected! He styled my hair after the cut by giving it a few curls with a curling iron and I'd say its one of the best soft curls I've been given hands down! He also did some crazy technique with the curling iron on my bangs to give it the perfect volume and curl that allowed it to sit on my face perfectly!
