I use to go to Renee years ago at a different salon and recently dropped by here and found her by chance! Her salon is beautiful and has the best products.I get a blow dry for about $50. They give the best shampoo and massage I've ever had so totally worth it if you want to come in and relax for a bit. I would also recommend calling ahead for an appointment. AVOID AT ALL COST!!. I went there last week for a keratin treatment. They said it's 200$ for men and will last for 5 months. I don't know how much was the haircut but I paid them $250. I have very long hair and had time to finally get it cut. They problem is that the free time I had fell on a Monday where my normal spot is closed. So I did some searching on yelp to find a place and R Hair came up and Rene has some really good reviews. So I stopped in and found out they were off. Figures. So against my better judgement I decided to have the person cut my hair. Said I was ok with cutting it to the middle of my back and I'm good with short layers and shaping my face with them. Well my hair is about 3 inches above the middle of my back, uneven and looks butchered. Now if I go and have someone fix it, it's going to be above my shoulders and that's just problematic for me. My hair is permanently altered by heat damage due to improper styling and a lack of communication. I went in to get my hair styled for a gala, I was hoping to get an old school Hollywood curls, I paid $180 + tip for that service. I had the female stylist. I have long, thin, flat virgin hair that had taken me years to grow out. She doused my hair with hairspray and only used protectant spray once. She teased my hair then curled my hair on high temperatures with her curling iron repetitively in the same sections. In addition 2/3 away through the appointment, she admitted she could not do the style I was looking for. I would have changed course if she had been honest upfront. I left the salon very disappointed. The next day I could not get the smell of burnt chemicals out of my hair and there was clumps of hair washing in the drain. I went back to the salon and I was met with a defensive stylist who wouldn't even look at my hair. She yelled that it's not her fault my hair smells. I'm not joking those are her exact words. She continues to say I could have walked into something, or I could have washed my hair with something she doesn't recommend. She sprayed the hair spray in my face to show me that's not what her hairspray smells like, she spritz her hair with hairspray and then used a curling iron on her ends and flings it in my face. She wouldn't look at my hair without charging a fee. Ultimately, the male stylist took me back and washed my hair free of charge. They both tried to tell me it's normal to lose clumps of hair in the shower, I've washed my hair for decades and I can confirm this isn't normal. My hair is left in a state where it smells like burnt hair. I went to another hair salon and it has been confirmed it was heat damage. I don't own any styling tools not even a hair dryer. If you want to keep your hair healthy go somewhere else, this salon will not admit when they are wrong or caused damage. Highly disappointed with my customer service experience. read more

Never got a chance to leave a review since I hadn't had the chance to review until now plus I wanted to see how my hair looked grown out a lil' after the haircut. First I had called & spoke to owner; Rene, told her I've been searching for a good stylist since I've literally been all over Brooklyn & even in the city for a really good cut & had some disappointing experiences. In my experience my best cuts were done in inexpensive places (in the past that is & unfortunately my favorite hairstylist moved to Seattle). My favorite stylist also did a "dry cut" which I was told is done for the stylist & client to easily see the cut/style quicker. It's true from what I've seen. Anyway so I asked Rene, for prices for a long layered cut & she said depends on how long your hair is, I said it was medium to long length, she said $32. I said I just want a cut, l will come in with my hair already washed (I had a neck injury so being in those sinks would really aggravate it) and no styling afterwards, just a cut. She said $32 (which surprised me since she already said $32 anticipating I'd have the usual customer treatment of washing & styling). Then I asked if she did a "dry cut"? There was a pause on the phone but then said "yes". So l still wanted to try this place out due to the majority of her reviews & figured it's the owner so l had high hopes. I came in, she seemed nice & she started spraying water on my hair after l said a "dry cut"...which made me start thinking "did I make the right decision in coming to this place?" So l said "I thought you were going to do a dry cut?" And she looked puzzled and said "Yes" and put the spray down. Then she looked at the pictures I showed her (simple long layered cut). l also kept mentioning l want the ends of my hair strands to be pointy not "choppy". I also drew a pic next to the photos for added clarity. Long story short it was honestly a mediocre cut & my ends were still choppy even AFTER it grew out (a few months growth) and the bill was $35. (Tip excluded) and she asked to style my hair to show the layers I said "no l wanted just a cut" because I don't want them to hike up the price but she said just to show the layers. So I said fine. It didn't help. It wasn't a horrible cut but it wasn't what I had expected or hoped. I know $32 or $35 is "cheap" compared to SOME salons out there but as someone who doesn't make much right now (which by the way through our convo, she asked what I did for a living, I told her I was an afterschool teacher, who got their days shortened due to new hires, which means our paycheck has been cut down significantly, so you know I am not rolling in dough right now & every dime counts)..let's be honest, you shouldn't charge that amount when it's a DRY cut, ONLY a Cut & the person came in with their hair already washed. I gave a tip because I figured she did do a service (despite it not being to my satisfaction) & I'm nice, but l wasn't SUPER happy (I had worse in the past). l had left thinking "it'll grow out looking better" but back to the search for a good hairstylist. FYI: If a hairstylist gives you every excuse in the book "it's your 'hair texture' (which by the way my hair texture is naturally thick, straight (I sometimes make it wavy to give more body) it's also smooth, I don't even need those shine products since it has a natural shine to it..But for this day it was really hot, humid and disgusting outside & l left with it WET but combed through and it started drying up when I walked all the way there)..anyway so if they give you a song & dance about how it's YOU & your texture or 'color' (which by the way is Ridiculous! So are you only able to give haircuts to people with highlights or light hair to show layers?? Give me a break!) So if you are told this B.S... LEAVE because I was told by an actual talented & experienced hairstylist in the past 'You know a Great hairtsylist when they can work with ANY hair type & not make excuses!" ..Boom. read more

I've had my fair share of awful experiences with salons. René worked in a salon I used to love but have since hated since she left. I was walking by R hair studio when I peeked in and saw that she was here. What was great is she recognized me and invited me inside to say hello and look around. A few days later I came back for a haircut. The man who washed my hair was so nice and the product they used smelled amazing and really softened my hair.I almost didn't want to cut off my ends after that. But it had to be done lol. My hair was shoulder length, very damaged, with an awful color job. I explained what I wanted to René and she immediately knew what to do. I ended up having her cut off a lot more hair than I thought I would ever be comfortable with. But I'm sold and I love my hair. Just had a hair cut today by the owner, Renee. She was informative. I had hair about bra strap length and wanted to cut it short. I took her advice and cut it to shoulder length. Overall I like the cut but wasn't exceptionally pleased. I have had this style from time to time. I was looking for a complete made over an this didn't meet my expectation. The salon is very clean which I have valued a lot. From wash to cut to blow dry, I was charged $50 before tips. A bit in the pricey side, but if you have the budget, want to get a decent haircut done by an Asian in the neighborhood, I will say you can try this one.
