Walked in for a haircut, guy in the front did a horrendous job. Literally just randomly cut my hair the way he wanted didn't listen to how I wanted it to look. I asked him to fix it, he was obviously not happy that I asked him nicely to thinning my hair. He randomly cut it again and came out uneven. He then rushed it and called another person to wait right behind me for a cut. Totally rushed, doesn't give a crap how you like it and tries to cut as many client as possible to get that money. Literally saying this because I can do a better job cutting it myself. Will never ever return especially there are so many other options around. read more

Want to go to an expensive salon that overcharges you and burns your hair and doesn't do what you want and takes forever when you can come here to top pair they do an amazing job there's a group of Chinese hairstylist they are quick they are efficient and they are talented make no mistake and they are cheap highlights $55.80 color they do everything. It's not to be mixed up with the top hair next-door this one is closer to the San tender bank not closer to the 24th Ave. there are two top hair salons. If you just need a straight up no-frills trim or quick haircut, you can't go wrong with top hair! Living in LA, I can pay up to $50 for a regular trim and growing up in Brooklyn, I've been spoiled with Top Hair. Literally my haircut was a quick 30 mins, cut exactly how I wanted it as usual (with Amy as my stylist) and only cost me $16!!! Literally a steal! I also got my hair washed and they give you mini massages while they're washing your hair, such great service. I really needed that massage. This place gets busy so make sure your stylist is in and available, especially if you're just trying to walk-in on a weekend. Amy also straightened my hair for me after my cut (which is how I usually style my hair) so that was a nice plus as well. I always try to get my haircut when I'm back in New York! This is the only hair salon for me so I hate it whenever I'm gone for too long! read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!! Yesterday was such a night mare. i walked in with brown hair. i asked for baylage. i didn't even give going here a second thought because i was going there for 17 years. any way, , i walked in with brown hair and left with a full head of fried blond hair. and they had me stuck there for 5 hours. and he still made me pay even though i was hysterical crying. my hair is so bad right now. he said come 15 more min ill make you brown again. i said I'm not paying you to look exactly the same as i did when i walked in. i look like such a fool right now. they did so much damage to it, i have to walk around like this for at least a month till i dye it again. i can't believe this shit head made me pay. even more i can't believe i paid. don't say you can do baylage when you clearly can't. read more

WORST HAIRCUT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. I needed a TRIM and an unprofessional, unskilled man cut off 5 inches of my hair like he was cutting grass. It took him 8 minutes max. I understand the prices are not expensive, but I would appreciate it if he actually listened to my concerns as a customer. I got highlights for $260 two weeks ago and he proceeded to cut out half of it??? DID HE BOTHER ASKING WHAT I WANTED? When I asked him questions, he ignored me and proceeded to get the next customer. I will not be coming back and I will warn others about this. I don't understand how this salon even has 4 star ratings, probably staff workers posting random comments. Everyone beware. read more

I've been getting my hair done here for at least a decade and I can only ever remember being disappointed once, and even then I grew to like the cut anyway. Short hair, or long they do both very well! I mean, where else can you get a fabulous wash cut and blow for around 18$? I would just say maybe avoid Amy is you have a very specific style in mind, she tends to do what she likes regardless... :/ I recommend Joe or Mark! Also, don't be afraid to go to Top Hair II! Let's just get down to it. 1. CHEAP haircuts. Just a haircut costs me $12. If I want the whole she-bang (wash, cut and dry), it's $20. That's not including tip but I'm always generous. 2. Not the BEST haircut, and it's hard to communicate when the stylists have limited English. I have a favorite stylist who knows what I want and does a pretty good job. Other stylists aren't as great. I won't divulge my stylists name though. ;) I hate when I show up and he has 3+ people lined up waiting for him. He's obviously the best!! :) 3. Get your hair washed. It's amazinggg. Been coming here for over 10 years. I've tried other hair salons but ultimately ended up coming back here. Very reasonably priced, and I always got my hair cut by Amy. She has never disappointed me. It's $16 if you have long hair but otherwise the pricing matches with the price list. I went there for hair cut today and it's my first time going to this salon. Even though it's not modern looking inside, my experience was a good one. I got hair wash along with a massage. They ask me which stylist I would like and since it's my first time I said " it don't matter " and after that I got seated down with the stylist. She asked me what I would like so I show her the haircut and we chatted a bit. After she was finished I like the cut. I will come back here next time if I wanted to get hair cut if I am around the neighborhood. read more

I've been coming to this hair salon for the past 4-5 years mostly because my old barber always did a good job and knows exactly what hair cut I like. This barber shop is close to my house and my dad knows the owner/staff very well since he gets his hair cut there every once in a while too. My barber doesn't work here anymore. She is at the other Top Hair Salon just a few doors down. Every time I've been here I've never been charged more than $12.00 and this includes (cut, dry, and layer) and my barber used to straighten my hair too even though I was born with straight hair. I came back here on Tuesday to get my hair cut, layered, and it was blow dry and the barber straightened my hair too and I was charged $16.00 without tip. Somehow I feel I may have gotten ripped off. I'm somewhat happy with my hair cut, except my side bangs aren't exactly what I wanted. It's a bit hard to communicate with the stylist because they speak Chinese, but they do a pretty good job with hair styling/cutting. read more

I have been there for few times and it was just ok. Last time I walked in it confirmed that I'm not going to cut or dye my hair anymore at this place. I was expecting to dye my hair light golden brown, and I literally get out of the place looking like I came before (with black hair and some strikes of brown). Besides that, they are not helpful, they seem to be racist and they also dont treat you with good customer service if you don't speak the same language. For the prices that they charge, this is best Chinese hair salon I've been to. Any stylist you go to, they know what they are doing. Also, they will not try to force their opinions on you like most other Chinese salons do. The stylists will only cut your hair the way YOU want it to be done. I've never gotten my hair colored but I see the work they do, it's really good. Affordable and awesome! They're always friendly and genuinely want you to be satisfied with your hair. They give you little extras like straightening or spray a little something for volume for free! read more

I saw the sign on the window that stated $16 for wash and dry. Something told me to ask just to be safe side and the guy in the 1st chair had the nerve to tell me $40 yup $40 to wash and dry my 12 year olds hair... Gtfoh with that.. Meh. On the plus side, they were very nice. The color was ok--I got highlights, and it was not as skillfully applied as I am used to, one-dimensional, no low-lights, there will be a hard edge when it grows out, too bleached. Shampoo girl gives you a massage, but it was a little rough. I have fine hair and asked the stylist for just a trim, and keep the layers. I watched him cut, he doesn't know how to hold the scissors correctly. (11o'clock people. hold the scissors at 11 o'clock). Did I mention the thinning shears? What was he thinking? Then he blew it out totally flat. Thin. Flat. Not cute. It reminds me of the haircut I had in 4th grade.....hard edge to the bang, then long. Flat. Lifeless. Sad. Ok, it is shiny. Thankfully, it will grow back. You get what you pay for. It's really cheap. If you're not too picky, or if you have thick asian-like hair It may be a-ok. I bring in my own dye, get my hair colored, washed, cut, and blown out all for under $40! I mean, really, what other salon coupe boast those prices? I signed up for yelp just for this. Doesn't deserve any stars. Worst hair dye of my life. I walked in around 7pm, asked up front I wanted a hair dye and if its too late. Guess not,so I sat down in the chair. I explained to them I wanted to strip 1year old black hair dye to a more notable brown. Lets just say I leave the store at 10:30pm with the top blonde and bottom orange. If you don't know what to do then say it. Im tired, its late, shocked, last person in the shop. I paid and left, shouldn't have paid at all! Clearly you kno you messed up and your work sucks, " Do you like it." ... I almost cried! So upset. Wanted to go back the next day but for what? Absolutely love this place. Very reasonably priced. I never have to wait too long, the stylists, colorists and shampoo girls are all amazing. Gentle and attentive to the client. The only thing that kinda sucks is its cash only. Which is kinda of inconvenience and parking is a journey and a half in the area. But other than that it's an awesome place. ZERO STARS (I had to pick one star in order to submit the review - but I actually would give it a minus 10 stars if possible) - and for good reason. I will NEVER step foot back into this place and am submitting this as a warning to anyone even thinking of it. I am totally beside myself. Top Hair Design in general and AMY specifically is to be avoided at all costs. Amy is the one who is co-owner with her husband and cuts, I mean chops (literally!) your hair into an unmanageable mess. Her chair is located in the front, the nearest to the desk. AVOID her. I'm actually embarrassed to leave my house and go out into public and wait for dark, wet weather so that I can put my hood up or stick a hat on my head! I can't say it enough times - Amy is to be avoided at all costs. Amy has been trimming my hair for several months since Jason left (he was excellent but left a few months ago) and there was no indication that she would suddenly go ballistic! Well, this last time, she didn't even wet/dampen my hair. I arrived with it up in a pony tail and when released from it the hair would be indented and uneven unless it was wet and combed straight. But that wasn't where the problem arose - she literally pulled out her THINNING SHEARS and attacked, yes attacked the side and top of my head! She never used a regular scissor - she went right for her thinning shears. WHO DOES THAT?????? I have little 3/8 inch pieces sticking out like a punk rocker! There are longer pieces mixed into short - no two pieces alike! You can't even call this layered - it looks as though I had some type of accident - as if I got my head caught in a fan or blender! It won't even lay straight! I even emphasized from the start that I only wanted a trim. When it happened, I asked her what she was doing and she told me "I want to blend it into the side." ???? Common sense - this isn't "blended" it sticks out in every direction but the one in which it should go and doesn't even lay flat but sticks up. She also hacked/chopped my hair on the top of my head and I now have a bald spot in the back of my head because the crown (layers? - hacking is a better word) is cut so short that the hair doesn't even reach the layer underneath it, thus leaving a "bald" spot. Oh - it gets worse!!!!! The right side of my head is dramatically longer than the chopped up side! A blind folded two year old could have done a better job! When Amy was finished with this masterpiece, she turned on the hair blower - FOR WHAT???? - she never wet my hair? Amy had to do this deliberately because I see other women she's worked on leave with their hair cut beautifully. Overall, I never liked those thinning shears and have requested NOT to use them. The way she uses it, it looks as though my hair was randomly plucked and yanked out. There is absolutely no good reason for her to have chopped up my hair like this, P.S. - I always tip her very, very well. No excuse whatsoever. My hair is thick (no more) but fine. I don't need thinning shears. I can't even go anywhere to have it fixed until it grows out - and I'm talking months, not weeks. I am literally in tears over this. I don't know which of the three stooges I resemble most - maybe Mo on the right side and Curly on the left. I want to just die. :-( In the past, I have to also mention as well, that they take people before you (sometimes many) even though you were there first especially if they're people they know. And those are the same people who walk out looking like movie stars and you look like a plucked chicken. Also, not exactly up to sanitary standards - combs, clips, brushes fall onto the floor and go right back into your hair and not into a Barbicide canister. Also noteworthy are all the brushes (with tons of other peoples hair wrapped around them) and hair tools are scattered on the counter, and again NOT in any type of disinfectant. I also don't like how the clips are temporarily clipped/held in their own hair then transferred directly to you for the same reason. A word to the wise, pay a little more, and go to a place where they know how to cut hair with a normal scissor and treat people fairly and kindly and don't try to disfigure you. read more

I don't like posting negative reviews, but this is seriously the worst haircut I've had in a long while! Please know that this is not to bash this salon. I sincerely want to warn you if you plan to go. I went here because my hair was getting really long and I have a baby so I needed it to be more manageable. The hair wash was great as they give you a massage (that is the only reason I am giving it any star!) I brought a photo of Hyomin from Kpop group T-ara to show the stylist. Of course, I did not expect to look even remotely close to a Kpop star, but I just wanted a similar haircut. She asked me a whole bunch of questions about what I wanted even though I told her to follow the photo. She was a nice but VERY soft-spoken woman named Gigi and even though I had gestured to her that I couldn't hear her a few times, she barely got any louder. After the huge list of questions, I thought she understood what I wanted. NOPE! She asked me which direction I wanted my bangs. So, I told her the right side because that's the natural direction of where they fell. Every stylist I've ever been to know this as common sense. However, in the end, I was wondering why my bangs were on the left side. I pointed that out to her. But, of course, by then it's sort of too late since she already cut them! My bangs won't look right if she moved it to the other side (they become too short). Also, she told me she would sheer off some of my hair since it is so thick and I agreed. But what she did was she ended up cutting parts of my hair SUPER short (like an inch long!) That made it so that short little hairs stick out of my hair when it's in a pony tail. It's like spikes are coming out of my head! The layering is also so terrible. So usually guys would say something nice to make you feel better right? Nope. My husband saw how sad I was from the haircut and said, "I'm so sorry..." Not even a "It doesn't look THAT bad..." BECAUSE IT IS THAT BAD!!! Now every time I look in the mirror, I want to cry because I look like Severus Snape from Harry Potter! I am only 30, but I look 20 years older! read more

Had my daughters hair done yesterday and twenty minutes later her hair curled up and when I went back the owner just laughed and blammed it on the weather when the weather yesterday was beautiful and my other daughters hair didn't curl up. If you want an amazing blow out for practically nothing, come here. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I go there for a freshen up. I had a trim a few times there and it was fine. I never asked for anything crazy. the atmosphere is a little hectic and if you don't want a double shampoo you must remember to tell the girl. The first time I had my hair stripped dry by over washing. But I did get a shoulder massage too so it was worth it :) A little hard to communicate what you want, that's why I wouldn't go there for anything very complicated. Although my mother always gets beautiful cuts there and she brings a picture. I don't think she's ever spent more than 17 dollars for a wash, cut and style. And I've never paid over 10! I went in for ombré. When I told them I wanted ombré (I showed them a picture and everything), they seemed like they knew what it was and how to do it. WRONG. Their definition of ombré is razor sharp color difference. I had blackish brown to dramatic light brown orange. My "ombré" also has a brassy tone to it. Also to make it worse, the back bottom of my hair is green! They didn't even bother to take out the green tone from my previously blue dyed hair. I noticed the full flaws of my hair when I got home and I was EXTREMELY disappointed. I wasted a lot of money on something I could've done better on, and trust me, I did ombré before I just thought that a salon would be more professional at it.. I guess not.
