I told both Jean Marc and Adline what my vibe was for my hair. I'm a little dark so i didn't want a color to wash me out or make me look weird. i went in the store in hopes to make a good change for my hair in both color and length. They both knew what I wanted they understood and they made it happen. they are both really nice and reassure you on what it is you are getting done To make sure they didn't miss a thing. My hair is cut to perfection exactly how i imagined and my hair color is so different from how it was. My hair looks more shiny and alive. Overall amazing I love it. read more

I haven't dyed my hair in almost three years. Adeline explained the entire process and which colors made my hair stand out. Her knowledge and expertise was reflected in the final result. My hair feels softer than ever! I also appreciated their covid guidelines because it made me feel safe. I absolutely enjoyed my experience at Bodhi Salon and will be returning soon! read more

I requested an appointment and adeline called me and asked for pictures of my hair which i sent and received no response. The next day my appointment was canceled with no explanation or contact from the establishment. Very unprofessional. read more

Great stylists here. Also, they follow COVID protocols so you feel very safe while you're there. Highly recommend if you're looking for a new hair team. Both Adeline and Jean-Marc were wonderful. Not only are they lovely humans, but they understood what I wanted. Extremely happy with the color which Adeline achieved perfectly. Looking forward to exploring further with her in the future. Jean-Marc got the cut just right. Overall a very pleasant experience. read more

My hair is so happy! Jean did a great cut for my type of hair. I will definitely be back!

I'm low maintenance when it comes to hair, meaning no color, no blow dry, barely any products. Jean Marc cuts my mid-long hair so that it falls properly and offers low-maintenance suggestions on how to treat my hair to make it even better. What I love about this place is that they don't push to sell products or extra services and the prices are reasonable for the quality and location. I used to live in Brooklyn and would go to Bodhi Salon for my haircuts for about 5 years. Though I left Brooklyn, my work occasionally brings me there and I make sure to schedule my hair appointment with Jean Marc when I'm in the neighborhood and in need of a haircut. read more

Over 10 years ago a friend of mine gave me the business card to Bodhi Salon and told me to go there. He was right. Jean-Marc saved my disaster of a haircut that day and to this day I only trust Jean-Marc to work the magic that adorns my headspace read more

Bodhi Salon - Another first-class cut by Jean-Marc!!! - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Best attention to detail and precision when it comes to styling and cutting men's hair. Jean Marc is an absolute master-mind when it comes to bringing cuts and styles to life - never overmatched or challenged - he can bring your vision (or if you bring with you a photo of what you want) to life. He's the best men's stylist and haircutter I've ever had - reliable, consistent, and approachable. He's interested in what's best for your hair, your style, and cuts according to your face's features and dimensions. THE GOAT. read more

Adeline and Jean Marc have been part of of every one of my hair adventures this last decade. they've helped me realize each of my hair whims - from pixie to mohawk to purple to shaved to big/messy curls to 18 inches worth of hair donation through this pandemic. they are artists. they are professionals. they are neighbors. they are friends. they take their business, your hair, and everyone's safety seriously. thank you AP and JM! read more

If you are below the age of 25 don't go here. I'm 21 and I left looking 10 years older in a horrible way. I went here partly because I saw all the good reviews but frankly my cut is nothing to brag about. My layers aren't even around my entire head of hair. i asked him to take the weight off but to keep most of the length and he pretty much just hacked it off. The blowout was poofy and just plain bad. The salon itself was boring looking. However the service was good. The lady at the front desk who also washed my hair was awesome and super friendly. The price convinced me to try Bodhi Salon but there is nothing special about this place. I wish I would've just spent an extra 30 to get my hair done right. Lesson learned! read more

I am so happy with my highlights, haircut and color by the stylist Vanessa Barrios! My highlights looks so natural and the painted on technique she used is perfect for my curly hair. She listened to my concerns and we worked together to get the best outcome for my hair. I had a very positive experience and would recommend her highly. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Bodhi. I've been going to them since 2006 after all. Jean Marc is the best! I moved to the Upper West Side a year ago, and I still travel all the way back to Bay Ridge (it can take an hour sometimes) just to get my haircut by JM. He's so laid back and always listens to what I want. And the whole experience is just fun. Everyone who works here is great, even Enzo the adorable 4-legged greeter. The biggest compliment I got was last week when I was about to go on the air (I do TV appearances), and the hair and makeup people wanted to know who cut my hair. When I said I go out all the way out to Brooklyn, they said, and I quote: "Keep going out there. It's worth it. You have a great cut." Does it get better than that? No way. read more

Marc oh Marc. The compliments are just not stopping. I love the haircut he gave me. It's fantastic, and truly a face changer. I wouldn't recognize myself. Their pet, Enzo is a sweetheart! Everyone is friendly, cool and relaxed. Someone who enjoy what they do. I also liked the fact that they didn't make me wait at all. Everything was handled so professionally. Marc discussed my wishes in detail and didn't get upset when i changed my mind at the last minute after a long discussion. I do tend to get confused. All in all, great experience and I'll definitely go back next time I need a haircut. read more

I went to Bodhi yesterday for the first time. I was very impressed at the start. Marc is amazing! I got a horrendous hair cut last June from another Bay Ridge salon and it's taken a long time for it to grow out. I went to Marc (based on the yelp reviews) and I am so very pleased that I did. He fixed my hair and recommended some wonderful products also. The cut he gave is amazing! He took time doing a color consultation for me and helped me understand the process that I need to go through to get my hair the way I want it to be. He was also extremely pleasant to talk with while he was cutting my hair. Some major high points: * I didn't have to wait for my appointment. They took me on time. * Everyone is pleasant, from Kristin who washed my hair, to the woman (didn't catch her name! - but I will next time) who checked me out at the end of my visit. * Marc knows his hair stuff!! * For a very nice salon, the prices are reasonable, especially for Bay Ridge. I'm going back next weekend to have my color done. Can't wait to see what Marc will do! I've already recommended a few people to go here! read more

I've been going to Bodhi for about a year now to get my hair cut. I'm a low-frills person and I've never gone regularly to a salon before. I'm so happy that I decided to try this salon out! Jean Marc is talented, good humored, and kind. He's done a fantastic job on my hair and also recommended some products for me (which I now use and love) without being pushy. I got my hair colored there for the first time today and loved Adeline. She is a no-nonsense professional but also very personable and warm. I asked for a natural look and she delivered. I also have to give a shout out to Gabriel who has washed my hair a few times now. Oh my god. Maybe this sounds silly but the scalp massage he does while washing my hair is worth the trip! Like everyone else who works at Bodhi, he is a sweetheart. (I can't remember the name of the other girl who works there - also awesome.) My experiences here have been nothing short of delightful. As a stay at home mom with 2 young kids, I spent so much time feeling frazzled and my trips here are such a treat. Yay! read more

I love you Bodhi Salon! I have been going here for 4 years. I have never cheated on them, always stayed faithful as Jean-Marc and Adeline are my favorite. I had my hair cut and colored 2-3 weeks ago and those first 2 days after I had it done, I swear 30 people complimented on it. If you have short hair know that Jean-Marc can do amazing things for you, I have been to many salons prior, in the city (I'm not naming any names), that were not as skilled and never made me look as good as Bodhi Salon does. They will always do what makes you look good. They listen to what you want and follow through EVERYTIME! Why else would I have been coming here for years?!?! Adeline really knows her color (I mean REALLY knows it) Jean-Marc is an artist, he has so many tools and uses all of them. Him and Adeline also know what products are best to use, best to mix together, etc They're always up to date and informative. Enzo, their Australian Shepherd, he's the sweetest, you'll want to take him home with you, I do every time I visit. The price is reasonable for the high quality of service you'll receive, it's a win win situation, you would be crazy not to check this place out! read more

The ownership here is rediculous. I've given them business over the last few years.. $68 for a TRIM PLUS TIP to both my stylist and the person who washes my hair, comes to $85 most times. Unreal. I came when I was preggo and they wouldn't let me leave without getting a blow dry and I was super hot. That was the first mishap. I let it go. Now I have a baby and want to bring him in because I have no one to watch him and they said its best if you get a sitter. What happened to a neighborhood place. I'll never be back. Unfortunate because I love the way Jean-Marc does my hair. read more

I have been going to Bodhi for about five years. Adeline does wonderful blond highlights. She takes the time at the start of each appointment to listen to my hair needs and any issues or comments. Being blond is tough on the hair and my hair texture has changed over the years. Adeline has worked with me to change my color to a non drying formula. She also recommends new and improved conditioning treatments she knows I'll benefit from without overselling me on multiple treatments. Jean Marc is a great stylist and perfectionist. He also listens to the type of cut I am looking for and executes it perfectly. The salon is clean and comfortable with friendly staff. I am always pleased when I leave with beautiful highlights and a great cut. I highly recommend giving them a try. read more

I went to bodhi for a brazilian keratin treatment. I was incredibly nervous at first but the results were way better than I anticipated. It was 7 months before my hair was frizzy. At the appointment they said it wold last 3-4 months, so 7 months was a great surprise. The brazilian truly gives you wash and wear hair. I am going to get my second one in a few months and I literally cannot wait. Jean Marc did the brazilian and it was amazing. I only gave four stars because the highlights I got before hand (done by Maya) weren't the best I've had. They didn't go all the way to my scalp and they were uneven. All in all though, it was a positive experience. I am not so much a dog person though. But Maya did go outside and fill my meter. I thought that was really nice. read more

Went back again for a color and cut. In a word "Exceptional". Would have written this up sooner but I have just been too busy with the compliments. The color counseling was very patient, the whole experience was memorable. Perfect perfect perfect.... More than a fan... now an advocate. Thanks to all at Bodhi. read more

Had a wonderful haircut that lasted months and months by Jean-Marc.. very friendly.. efficient.. reasonable even if its completely out of my way I hope to go back soon. Good haircut, after all is hard to find. read more

I was looking for a new salon to give me a more professional, chic look. Based on the great reviews I saw for Bodhi, I decided to give them a try. Marc cut my hair - it was PERFECT. It was exactly what I wanted. I showed him the picture, and he went from there. Him and Kristen (who washed my hair) gave me tips on how to keep my hair healthy and maintain the cut. It was just a very pleasant experience from start to finish - they had an array of very recent magazines (although I had no time to sit and read, as they took me right away!) and there's the sweetest, most gorgeous Australian sheepdog that roams the premises. I will definitely recommend Bodhi to anyone looking for a great salon, and will definitely return! read more

Jean Marc is the best! He really listens to you if you want something specific. Also I've had blindly entrusted my hair into his skilled hands and wasn't disappointed. Unlike most of my previous stylists (and I've been to many!) he doesn't try to talk me out of chopping all my hair off. I also took a chance on the color with Adeline (haven't dyed my hair since college days of bleach and Kool Aid) and she did an amazing job! Both me and my fiance are loyal patrons. read more

This review is long overdue! Adeline and Jean Marc are amazing stylists who work their magic whether it was because I needed just a trim or needed to look fabulous for a special occasion. They really listen to what you want done but also give helpful suggestions of what might be a better styling choice due to maintenance issues specific to each individual. That being said, I miss everything about Bodhi Salon! read more

Best haircuts I've had in a long time! Jean Marc does a fantastic job. You better believe I will be a regular. I am a mature woman in my 50s and my hair hasn't looked this good in many many years. The price is great, and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended! read more

I can say without exaggeration that this is the best haircut I've ever gotten. I hate haircuts that look great in the salon and then look like crap when I'm running late and don't fuss with it (which is more often than not). I always request "easygoing" cuts but rarely get them. At Bodhi, the owner listened to what I was saying, and gave me a cut that looks great whether I fuss or not. And it still looks good a few months later, which is also rare. Perfect! On top of the good skills, he's a very nice guy and the salon has a great low-key vibe. And it's cheaper than the salon I went to in Manhattan for years. Just an all-around great experience. read more

Just had an awesome haircut by Jean-Marc. Very professional and clean salon. I will definitely be going back.

The most professional establishment you will find in Bay Ridge --for the most affordable price. The talent is equal to what you may find in Manhattan--but these are Bay Ridge prices. Knowledgeable; meticulous; confident; impeccable. Family run. No regrets and no complaints. Ever. read more

I love the staff here and they do a fantastic job on my hair! Both Adeline and Jean-Marc are the friendliest people and are perfectionists when it comes to hair. I normally dread going to salons because of how long it takes, normally it's awkward conversing with the stylists, and I'm very low maintenance when it comes to my hair. But I actually look forward to coming here. Adeline is so funny and nice and Jean-Marc is very much a perfectionist when it comes to trimming my hair. The prices are a tad high, but it's worth it. I can't say enough great things about them! read more

I've been coming here for a few months now and am very happy with this salon. At my first appointment, Adeline told me how much she hated my hair color. That may be off putting to some, but I was charmed. It was pretty black. We got very daring and did a color correction that came out beautifully, much to both of our relief, and she has been slowly lightening the color as my hair grows out. I've had a trim with Jean-Marc and will be going for a much more extreme haircut by Spring. read more

So far booking with Adaline was like pulling teeth. I hope my cut with Marc is better. They require a credit card to secure the appointment, and require a 24 hour notice which still applies if you made the appointment for less than 24 hours in advance. She couldn't hear me on the phone, said my phone was breaking up (it was a land line), asked me a question, got distracted, didn't let me answer and then discussed something else before going back to her original question. I will update tomorrow after my cut. So, my hair did come out very evenly cut. I have thick curly hair which I am capable of blow-drying perfectly on my own (very Kardashianesque) but mine may be a tad thicker. Marc seemed to get lost in my hair & it took him a considerable amount of time but he made NO mistakes. As for it being a trendy or cutting edge style, it is not. There are many things you can do with a long layer to make it current. I might go to him again, just for the precision. The blow-out was not nearly as skilled as my own blow-out... he used the Morocanoil (brand) intense curl cream which leaves hair dull and heavy if used prior to blow-outs. They forgot to take the $10.00 off coupon which I got at www.bodhisalon.com. I mentioned it to Marc, but he said to tell the receptionist, although after 2 hours between cut and blow-dry, I was runnnning away from there and forgot. The cut cost me $70.00 plus tip, etc. which is nearly twice what I pay normally. Summary: I say give it a try. It's a very precise cut if not trendsetting, Marc is a very genuine nice guy, the other staff there are very nice also, and they do have the sweetest dog. So take your allergy pills if you need them, and allow for sufficient time if you have curly hair.. read more

I live in Bay Ridge but used to travel all over NYC to get my hair cut. I started in Astoria. Haircuts were great but didn't justify the 2 hour train ride. Then Manhattan. I visited several old-school barbers when I kept my hair super-short. For longer hair it wasn't the right place. Finally my coworker suggested Bodhi, which is about 5 minutes away from my house. I've been a loyal customer ever since. I waited until I had 3 haircuts to post a review - and each one has been amazing. Jean-Marc actually takes the time to examine my hair and talk to me about the style before even lifting the scissors. And he has an opinion, too, which is important. When I'm going to get my haircut, I'm intentionally seeking the advice of a professional - so I expect them to actually tell me what they think! Jean-Marc always does. But really the whole team is great. Adeline and Jean-Marc have created a very relaxed, very hip atmosphere (I swear it feels like I've left Bay Ridge) and their dog Enzo is perhaps the cutest dog I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. To sum up: Guys, if you're ready to move up from the barbershop, go here. You'll get a great cut and won't have to fork over $80 for it. For all you womenfolk I can't vouch personally but everyone I see when I'm there looks a)great and b)happy. And if you don't live in Bay Ridge it's about time you paid a visit anyway. Come early or stay a little later and enjoy the best Middle Eastern food in the city (Tanoreen) the best Sichuan this side of Queens (Grand Sichuan House) and then look out over the harbor from atop Owl's Head Park. But seriously - get your haircut here. read more

I get my hair color (root touch up) and cut by Mark. He's a genius with coloring and my hair's the best it's ever looked, i actually like the color he chose for me better than my original hair color. It's a warm, bright brown that looks 100% natural. I also had a balayage done by Adeline last summer (over a year ago) and it still looks great as it's growing out. I couldn't be happier with my hair. Everyone who works there is a total pro, and the atmosphere is wonderfully laid back - even on the weekends. read more

The overall experience was lovely. Mark did my hair, and after giving vague answers about the color I wanted- "like, lighter than it is now but not platinum, ya know?" and it turned out great. The assistant/shampoo guru was lovely, and I loved chatting with the people in the salon. The only reason why it's not a 5 star review is that I wish I had seen the color before we started, but it turned out great anyway. read more

Bodhi Salon deserves more than 5 stars. Jean-Marc really listens to what you want done with your hair, and talks you through every step of the process; even if it's just a simple haircut he keeps you abreast of the progress and his technique. The salon itself is so cute: very open and inviting with lots of cool artwork on the walls, and their cute dog, Enzo, is always walking around, checking everything out. One of my favorite things about the salon are the chairs you sit in to have your hair washed. Your body lays flat so that there's no unnecessary nor unnatural strain on your neck. Absolutely amazing. I will definitely be going back. read more

I really love this salon! Adeline and Jean Marc are super sweet, and so are the support staff. It's a chic saloon with fair prices and an adorable dog who gently nudges you for petting every now and then. My hair looks and feels great every time! I went to this salon twice. The cut was so so but the attitude was full blown. The husband seems really nice but his wife was not. She critisized me for coloring my own hair and wanting to buy salon products at a beauty supply store (I don't make a lot of money). For a small salon at the tail end of Bayridge I expected them to be grateful for business. read more

If you like not getting what you asked for by a man who fancies himself to be artist extraordinaire, then this place is for you. Going here with a particular style in mind, it is a coin toss of a chance whether you will get what you had in mind, or whether the stylist will use you as a canvas to express his idea of what HE thinks looks better. It wouldn't be fair to say that the haircuts are terrible, but in my experience, they sure are mediocre. I kept returning hoping for a better outcome, because the location is convenient for me and the prices were decent. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The pervading attitude in the salon seems to be that the business is doing you a favor by servicing you. The cooler-than-thou attitude is a huge turnoff, particularly when it's from a salon in bay ridge. My new go to salon is in the city - for just a slightly higher price, I get what the haircut I want with complimentary beverages, and no snobbery. read more
