I randomly found this salon when I moved to Bay Ridge, figured can't mess up covering my grays, read the reviews, made an appointment and went in. I can't say enough amazing things about the salon and Nina the owner, who is an amazing colorist, and stylist. I think my favorite thing about Nina is that she makes you feel so warm and welcome each and every time, you feel like you are home with family. Her work is exceptional; I am at the salon once every two months and I see how Nina is with her other clients and how amazing she makes everyone look, no matter what type of hair the person has. What a gem! I visited this studio this last weekend as part of its open house. I liked the space immediately upon entering. All of the staff were so nice and friendly. Prior to this, they did business in the city. About a month ago, they decided to move out here to Brooklyn. I was able to chat with its owner Nina. Nina's good friend Katie was also there at the open house to be as supportive as possible. I heard how challenging it was for Nina to completely renovate the space and they wanted to keep the space as simple as possible. I have to say it certainly worked! Everything in here looked so elegant and classy. Their prices are clearly listed both in store and on its website. They do walk-ins for most services and require appointments for some of the other services. Raquel did my hair and I absolutely loved it! Definitely ask to see her on your next visit. I rarely spend anytime on my hair so it was nice to just sit down one day and enjoy the process. This is place is great for the first time visitor. However for a hair cut and blow dry which was done in like 20 minutes costed 86 dollars is extreme. I didn't even ask for anything specific (I've gotten similar or better hairs cuts for 20 dollars in the past) other then that, knowing the fact I didn't make an appointment and just showed it up, was super friendly (owner) as well as the lady that gave me a chair cut. Let me first start by saying that I am not an easy individual when it comes to my hair. I get so controlling because of how nervous I am that my hair will come out like a troll doll ! I will confuse the hell out of you lol. I showed Nina about 20 pictures of the "concept" and like 2 pictures that were kind of close to the color I wanted. We also sat for about 20 min discussing my hair before we began..... She must be SO happy I walked into her life ... Haha! She was patient & took her time because she GENUINELY wanted to make sure I get what I want. I had a not so good ombré and wanted to do a natural balayage. We decided to do two steps for my hair. First the base and then the balayage that I wanted. She said the base will most likely come out like a balayage and therefor more steps won't be needed. Base was done , and it look FANFREAKINTASTIC! She said "if i were you , I wouldn't do more. Do a couple of washes and then see if you want more". She gave me her honest opinion , didn't try to push me for more to make more money. I've been coming to the 5th Ave Hair Studio for years! Nina & Jenny are the best and VERY consistent with their quality in service and hair color. I see Nina all the time and she's the only one allowed to touch my hair! She's amazing and kind. I came in for an updo in December. It was a cinch to make an appointment and they saw me with only a few days of warning. It's very clean and modern inside. My hair was fabulous!! I brought in quite a few pictures and she (I THINK it was Raquel- I can't remember her name) helped me decide which would be best. I figured she would slap some pins in it and call it a day, but nope! First she made it fabulous and curly to give it more body and then she pinned it up. I almost decided to go to my gala with it down and curled. My only complaint is that this place is wicked expensive. We haven't lived in NYC very long so maybe $70 is normal for a haircut. I was in East Brunswick last week and made an appointment for a haircut at a different salon and only paid $50 - and it was one of the best cuts I've ever gotten. So I don't know ... but I will come back here for my next gala! read more

Conveniently located in heart of Bay Ridge, this salon is absolutely fabulous! Went there yesterday since i needed an urgent hair color (roots) and wasn't able to go see my regular stylist. A friend recommended that i go to 5th Ave Hair Studio and asked the owner to literally squeeze me in (she's very busy, especially on weekends). My hair hasn't been this healthy looking in years (i do balayage every few months), the split ends are a lot less visible and even though it's 45 min from my house, i'll be happy to travel and get my hair done at this beautiful place where everything and everybody give pure positive energy, fun and great experience overall! Amazing Hair Salon! I was treated like a queen. Came in for a last minute trim, glaze, and blowout/style with curls on a Friday night after a really rough week. I had an appointment for the following day but wanted to get it done the night before to avoid a rushed morning. These ladies pampered me. They even got me some delicious Georgian wine! I am not recommend this salon. I was there to get hair cut and it cost 70$ but it will be better if I did it in Chinese hair salon and spend just 20$ for the same work. Let me preface this review by saying I have tried every salon in bay ridge and many in Manhattan. I have had brown, blonde, ombré, red.... Every color under the sun...... This hair salon really saved my hair! I met Nina right in the middle of a hair crisis. I had a brief stint as a blonde last summer and then desperately wanted to get back to my natural color hair before my wedding this August. Any time I tried to do so, my hair was more of an auburn/red instead of light brown. I understand it takes some transitioning but the stylists I was with kept using warm red tones to cover the blonde instead of ashy, light brown to match my natural hair. Finally, after a few separate attempts, she darkened my hair--- almost making it black. Distraught I waited for it to grow out a bit and went to another salon and asked them to match my root color and lift the darkness (black) that was put in my hair to cover the blonde. This stylist proceeded to highlight only the top of my hair with orangey, yellow highlights! She did not even touch the bottom of my hair -- I left ( a very high end, well reviewed NYC salon btw), in tears with tacky highlights at the root of my head and a reddish/black mess on the bottom. I met Nina a few days later by chance as she overheard me complaining about my hair disaster! She politely invited me into her salon, told me of her past at top NYC salons, and assured me that she could save my hair at her very own salon that she opened right here in bay ridge. Well... She was right! After hours of work, I left 5th avenue hair studio a bouncy, brunette.... No red, no blonde, just shiny, light brown hair. I've been with her and foxy ever since and they are even working with me on my wedding day! They are the sweetest, most accommodating women and the salon is chic and comfortable.
