There were 5 of us who wanted in, and when I contacted Stefanie she couldn't have been more friendly and easy to coordinate with. There were 5 of us girls - all really different in terms of style - but all really pumped about having someone come to US and do our makeup while we got the night started. Stefanie came to my apt with tons of makeup and a bottle of champagne in hand on a Saturday evening. I was very picky, yet did not know what I had wanted -- I'd say one of the worst clients to have! But both Kim and Robbie worked with me through very long trials (thanks to them) to work out the look. Because we went through so many changes, I was unsure if we had nailed it. Both Kim and Robbie were confident that they knew the direction. On the day of the wedding, they came in very professional, and did an amazing job. It was exactly what we had aimed for. For the make-up, minimal, fresh, clean, radiant; for the hair, we had a braided up-do with a bit of height, loose in some areas, and structured in others. Kim had done some homework on eyelashes (I have Asian eyelashes...) and she put some extra time in figuring out the look with me -- many, many thanks to her, could not have been better. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres.
