Yes, washing hair is not glamorous but doing a half-a** job and then popping up at "tip" time should be embarrassing. Not with her. Unfortunately I received a gift certificate for the holidays but my stylist is no longer there. I scheduled an appointment anyway because the person I spoke to over the phone said they could get the color combination but then I was told the next day that no one said this. First time visit with Christina was perfect. What a cute little salon - very homey, with brick walls - has an air of being there for a long time, and it has. Good sign. And great service! Christina gave me a gorgeous layered cut that created volume in my hair and the gentlest blow-out I've ever had. I don't think I lost a hair throughout the single process, cut and blow-dry. She de-tangled my wet hair with a comb and not a brush - if you're concerned about your hair breaking in a salon you know what I mean - brushing wet hair is extremely damaging. I always wait a few weeks after a haircut to leave a review. I have good hair. It can even hide a bad haircut. my hair is long and layered and I just wanted it cleaned up. When I washed it a few days after my cut, I saw that the layers were completely crazy. One side was different than the other side. The stylist left my layers much longer than I wanted and cut the Bottom length much shorter than I wanted. It's a completely different cut than I've ever had and it just didn't work. My friend recommended someone in Manhattan so I went to have them look at this mess. The stylist put a comb through my hair and lifted it up in places and asked me if the stylist who cut my hair was drunk! She lifted my hair straight up on my crown and the left side was an inch and a half longer than the right side!! I spent another $80 getting my original bad cut cleaned up so it makes sense again. I will never go back into Foilz again. My hair looks 100% better than it did before. There is no excuse for an experienced stylist to do such a poor job! read more

She did such an awesome job that I went back today to have my highlights and my base color done. She listens to everything you ask for and delivers. She is an absolute doll and she did a phenomenal job with my hair. I've been to some of the best salons in New York City and in Bayridge and I am so thrilled with the results . I showed the colorist a picture of what i wanted.i wanted ash white so it can match my greys .to make this story short i didnt get the color i wanted it was very disappointing especially after paying $260, I wish the colorist would listen to the customer more. I went to foilz salon on Saturday afternoon. I wanted a cut and a color. I asked for a color similar to my natural color with blond reflects, I got a color with red reflects, which ended up being nice. I thought the price was a bit expensive (it ended up costing close to $200) and the cut had nothing special to it. The whole process took 3 to 4 hours. At the end I gave a generous tip to the colorist and the hairdresser, I did not know I had to give a tip to the person who washed my hair as well and she made an angry comment. I am not from the US (which they noticed by my accent) and I was very embarrassed, I don't think I will ever go again. read more

I was concerned that there were only two reviews of this salon, but since it was in the neighborhood and I was desperate for a cut and color, I figured I would check it out. Veronica was my stylist and she was fabulous. She did a dramatic red on me, and after the first wash it was too bring and crazy, so she and her assistant put some toner on my for 15 minutes and BAM! A super sexy and luxurious red. She gave me a long bob cut that framed my face very well. Great blowout and styling as well, my hair looked like it had had a gloss treatment done. But why the five stars you ask? Aside from the fact that my hair can be tricky to color for any stylist the first time, the price tag was unreal: $105 FOR A CUT, COLOR, AND BLOWOUT!!!! Come on people where else are you going to find that in NYC?! Also, the assistant who washed my hair gave me the best scalp massage I've ever had. Foilz is right around the corner and I was feeling adventurous, so I made an appointment for a cut. The receptionist was nice enough when I arrived, offering me a cold Aquafina and chatting with me a bit. As I waited... and waited. There was only one hairstylist around, cutting one woman's hair. I was baffled... surely Foilz doesn't employ only one hairdresser. Even though the place was practically empty, I waited for nearly an hour! When it was finally my turn, I told my hairdresser that I wanted a razor cut. She responded curtly, "Oh, I don't do that." Um, what? To her credit, though, she did a very nice job on my hair regardless. But $55 was steep for this hair experience. I'm hoping I caught Foilz on an off day. Foilz is definitely my new go to salon! Danielle was great and everyone is so friendly! A beautiful relaxing atmosphere and stylists that really listen to what you want and the prices are very reasonable. I came in last minute on Friday before Valentine's Day to get a blow out, I have long really curly hair and usually end up with the stylist tearing through my hair into a puff of frizz before making it smooth and manageable, or just ironing it completely flat. I spoke with Danielle about how I wanted curls and some bounce and she said she could do that as she blew it out and if I still wanted more curls she could add more with a curling iron (although that would have been an additional $20 or so), however once she got going I knew it would be perfect as is. My hair was never a puff ball of frizz, she used the round brushes to hold the curls in place before pulling it all out at the end and did it all in 45 minutes! A blow out was $27, a steal since the cheap Asian places charge me $25 and don't get as good a curl that stays in! I'm now on day four and my hair still looks fabulous! I've been to top Manhattan salons and were disappointed in some, happy with others, but I always go back to Foilz. Why? Becuase a full head of natural-looking, flattering highlights is only $110, that's why. It's hard to find a Brooklyn salon that gives good color - and by good, I mean non-streaky, non-yellow or white, natural looking highlights. It sucks that blowouts are not included in the price, but for color that cheap (and good), I'm willing to pay the extra $30. I used to see Anna (she successfully and beautifully made my medium brunette locks a golden blonde that flattered my skintone) but I dont think she's there anymore. I now go to Helen for my highlights, and I'm a happy camper. read more

I love this salon! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Helen is a great! She knows how to use the color wheel so well. I've been to so many salons and they always made my hair look red or orange whenever I tried getting my hair blond. No matter where I went they couldn't take the red out. But Helen is a genius with color. As the base color, she put a cooler tone color. A dark color mixed with a green tone, but it didn't make my hair look green and it got rid 90% - 95% of the red out and then she added blond highlights, which made my hair look blond. CHRISTINA AND SAM ARE THE BOMB THERE. Woke up on Saturday morning, realized that I wanted layers so I called and made an appointment told them I can be there in 15 mins (since I live 5 mins away) she put me on hold for a sec. then told me that I was set. Went in, they took my jacket and offered me a drink (coffe, tea, water). They got my hair washed, then Christina came and I explained how I wanted them exactly. She picked up completely and started cutting them (as I asked in long layers). Christina after finalized everything and asked me if I liked them, I absolutely loved them. Meanwhile this all happened, Sam was doing another costumer's hair in the chair in our left. I was following it and she did an amazing job too. I've been going to Christina at Foilz for my hair coloring, cuts and styling for almost a year and she is great! She is very friendly and always listens to what I want. I always take her recommendations whether it's for my coloring, styling or products. I've had my hair toned, highlighted, cut and styled with Christina. The first time I had my hair toned I didn't like the color and I called her the next day to get the color corrected right away and she gave me no problems. She is very easy to talk to and funny. She is on time with her appointments and she is so patient with me especially, I have curly thick hair and a lot of it.
