I got my hair done here today and it was honestly the worst mistake I've ever made. I read all the reviews and made an appointment with Kathy because she was mentioned a few times. DO NOT GO TO KATHY FOR A HAIR CUT. When I came in she was getting a manicure... I waited about 15 minutes before the assistant came over to wash my hair. Kathy didn't look at my hair, feel it or talk to me until it was already wet and washed. She combed my hair out and asked what I wanted. I told I only wanted an inch and I was anxious because the last time I got my hair cut at another place they cut more than I asked for and I hated it. She said she wouldn't take off that much, just an inch, and started at it. I noticed the pieces falling down were a lot longer than an inch and I reminded her again that I didn't want it short. She picked up probably the smallest clipping on my lap and said "See it's less than an inch, don't worry"... all of the pieces around it were much longer. She knew I wasn't happy with it and I pointed out that it was a lot more than an inch and my bangs couldn't even be tucked behind my ears anymore. She then started to argue with me and tell me that I didn't know what an inch was! So I paid $52 for a terrible hair cut and feel pretty bad about myself now but I guess all I can do now is wait another two years for it to grow back.... thanks, Kathy. read more

I moved to Brooklyn from Manhattan two years ago. I used to get my hair done at Scott J. Salon in the UWS and was still making the trek to Manhattan to get my hair and color done but it was overwhelming. I kept researching places in Bay Ridge and several people recommended other snobbish salons that I will not name yet I could not get myself to make the appointment. The reviews here on Yelp for them were so so and I figured that if I was going to pay Manhattan prices for so so, I would just continue to go to Manhattan. It was a Thursday late afternoon during the summer when I became distraught over the fact that my roots were out of control and that my hair had no shape since it had been a long time since my hair cut. The challenge in trying to set the appointment was that I was going out of town and my available time for a single process and cut was limited. I called and spoke to Meaghan and after explain what I wanted she said "sure come on in". It is not close to 6 months, 5 haircuts, 2 single process, colors, 1 up do and a set of highlights later I am a happy client here and of Ms. Meaghan. She really knows her stuff as far as cuts, and color. The salon is nice, the staff is friendly and most of all it is clean. I love that they are very accommodating and their prices are reasonable for a job well done. I continue to recommend them to my friends and co-workers. I will continue to come here for as long as I live in Bay Ridge. read more

I'm one of those people that is very, very nervous about getting their hair cut. I've had some bad experiences at salons before, and have cut my hair on my own for years because I've been afraid to trust anyone else. But I finally gave up the reins to Ellie at Panache, and I could NOT be happier that I did. She worked with me to figure out exactly how to mix what I wanted with what would work with my hair, and took the time throughout the cut to make sure that I was happy with the progress. This place does not deserve a star. Celeste ruined my hair. She placed 40 level peroxide in my virgin hair ( once virgin) and lighter in it without my consent. I wanted red color and asked her to do what she can to make it bright WITHOUT using harsh chemicals causing permanent change in my hair. I asked her to put the color in to see if it takes. I have black hair and she convinced me the red wouldn't show up without lighter but I said to try anyway, without. My hair came out nice and I left satisfied, thinking I only had a color in my hair. Three days later my hair turned copper orange. I went to three different stylist that told me she used bleach otherwise it would never of showed up that bright. She lied to me, and permanently changed my hair just so she could make a sale. What she should've done was tell me that she couldn't do it without the chemical and professionally refuse. Let it be known that I've never dyed my hair my whole life and I was completely uninformed about the coloring process. Celeste " explained" the process to me in stylist jargon so I was very confused. She made it very clear to me that she had other clients. The more questions I asked, the more aggravated she became. The one rule I have is to never piss off the person who is working on your hair and serving your food. I trusted Celeste as a colorist but that was a mistake. The next time I enter a salon, I'll be be a more informed client. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I went in for a cut with Ellie, and it was my first time at Panache. While I found Ellie to be pleasant mannered, she did not listen to me and what I wanted. She was in a hurry and it was obvious from the start that she did not want to work on me. It came to light that one of the hair stylists had left due to an emergency so they were very backed up. While that sucks, I am sympathetic to a point. She kept leaving me to walk over to the receptionist to tell her not to give her new clients and that she was already backed up. Well, I was a new client, how is hearing that supposed to make me feel?? She also kept complaining about the stylist that left and asking the boss where she was (and he kept ignoring her. Classy). Ellie was also extremely rough with my hair. I am not tender headed, but she did bring tears to my eyes at one point with how rough she was. This hair cut was a big deal for me, I was going from waist length hair to shoulder length (about 6 inches). I asked her to keep the style (long layers) but shorter. She didn't even look at how my hair was cut, I had to point out to her that I had layers. Once it was blown dry and I could see the cut, I noticed that it was a blunt cut, all one length. I asked her why there weren't any layers and she said,"It wouldn't look good, you don't want that". It was so obvious that she was done with me, I didn't think asking her to fix it was worth it. I left extremely disappointed and devastated about my hair cut. My friends told me to go back to have it fixed but if she didn't want to work on me when I was a new client, she's not going to do a good job now that I am a dissatisfied customer. I will never return here! I was so upset about this experience, I went to Da Noi Day Spa the following day to have the cut fixed. I went to panache after searching for hair salons in bay ridge on yelp and I just picked the first place that was close by and had time for me on such short notice...best decision ever! I was in DIRE need of a haircut/miracle. My hair had gotten so long and flat, it had 0 volume and practically every strand of hair was a split end. I was introduced to Kathy, I explained to her what I wanted, showed her pictures of a few haircuts because each one had some aspect that I liked about it and there was no photo online of what I had imagined in my head. I don't know how she did it, but Kathy gave me the exact cut and style I had pictured in my thoughts. I am rarely happy with haircuts because the stylist always manages to give me something I don't want but this was a first. I was/am ecstatic with the result. my hair feels weightless, has tons of body and damn I feel fan-freaking-tastic. Never going to anyone else ever again. I had a friend of mine dye my hair last week and she did an awful job and my hair was fried! SO, i found Panache and saw Ellie. She was great and understood that I was just looking for a trim to take off the fried ends and I was nervous I was going to have to be hacked. I moved to Bay Ridge from Staten Island 3 years ago, but was still going back to SI for a haircut. I've tried other Bay Ridge salons, but was never happy - they couldn't get my style right, they cut my hair too short, etc. I had a haircut today with Louie, the owner. The yelp reviews for this place seemed decent so I thought to go for a color consult. I called & was told I could just walk-in. I did just that a little earlier today. When I arrived, no1 was at the front desk-plenty of stylists saw me walk in...no1 greeted me or asked if they could help me. I sat and waited for 20 minutes or so & still nothing! I have curly hair and if it's not cut right, it can look awful. I randomly walked into Panache because I was desperate for a haircut. I was seen right away by Kathy and I explained that a friend recommended a round cut but I didn't know what that meant. Kathy agreed that's what I needed, explained what it was and talked me through the entire cut. She also was extremely polite the whole time. I plan on returning for all future haircuts. read more

I have been living in Bay Ridge for 2 years now and have tried so many places for color and haircuts. All of them were awful. Then came Panache and a lovely lady named Ellie. She is awesome!! She helped me pick a color that I adore and cut my hair into a fabulously voluminous and altogether "WOW!" 'do. The greatest thing is that she explained everything she was doing and checked in with me often while coloring and cutting my hair to make sure I was liking what was going on. She also asked me questions about my hair, my routine, etc. It sounds crazy but NONE of the other places did that! I felt like I was in such good hands from the moment I sat in her chair. I will not be going to anyone else from now on! The only thing is that they are a little bit pricier than other places ($70-100 for a single process and cut), but honestly they are worth every penny since you leave there looking like you have movie star hair. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL SERVICE!!! They treated me like I had the plague because I came in with my toddler. The stylist who was supposed to take me was taking his sweet time with the man on the chair, first a shave, then a cut, then back to a shave. What is that? Then when I asked another stylist if there was someone else available, he lied to me and told me he had someone coming who was parking the car. Granted, 15 minutes later, no one had walked in. He obviously didn't want to do a children's cut. They all ignored me like I wasn't even there but I decided to wait anyway. It was when I heard the client in the seat say.."we should go shorter" and the stylist gladly accepted knowing I had been waiting was when I decided to leave and never come back as they need to work on their customer service skills. At least pretend to care about their new clients. Everyone looks annoyed to be there..I recommend that if you have hours to kill and do not need a children's cut, feel free to waste your afternoon there. read more

Nice staff but not so great results. I went in requesting my hair color to be evened up as it was pretty much every shade of red known to man in a blotchy kind of way. I came out with purple hair. Not a pretty wine color, noooo, it was a blue based purple. Now normally I'd be fine with it but considering I had a job interview 4 days after this I was less than pleased. My stylist was unable to understand the issue I had with the color so I left. I dyed it basic brown a few days later. read more

I found this salon after googling, "curly hair bay ridge". Review after review mentioned Ellie at Panache, so I called and made an appointment to see her. I also needed my color done. The salon I had been going to had a colorist who did an okay job color-wise (I thought) but the stylist did a terrible job on my hair cuts. So I made an appointment with Ellie. She immediately noticed 2 major issues. First, the colorist was using brassy-ish highlights which were making my hair look frizzy. She was quite sure that if my highlights were toned down, my hair would not look frizzy. She was right!! Second, my hair was cut so poorly, and she knew exactly how to fix it. Since that time, Ellie is the only one I will let touch my hair. Curly hair is hard to cut well and she nails it every time. If I say, I want to let it grow, she just takes off the ends. If I want it styled differently (as happened today), it is like she can see what is inside my mind's eye. The icing on the cake is that she is lovely, personable and so easy to talk to. She is extremely accomodating too; she makes herself available at the last minute and is always so welcoming, warm and friendly. As I said, I let no one else touch my hair. What a find!!! read more
