I took a chance on this place after an awful experience at a different salon 4 years ago because I needed help removing this ugly blue hair I gave myself in the heat of quarantine boredom. I wanted my hair to be blonde/light brown but had my expectations set quite low. Blue dyes are notoriously difficult to remove and I was ready to leave with dark brown hair as a last resort given how damaged my hair was. A hidden gem - quality haircut without the hefty price tag. To start, I live for hair washes like this one, if you've been to asian salons then you know what I'm talking about. Except it's more gentle and that means no water splashed on your face but still super clean. Justin listened to the haircut I wanted and I left the salon with exactly that. He and his assistant was pleasant to talk to, also to joke around with and doesn't feel stuffy at all. I found Xsquared on Yelp based on their high reviews. I messaged them late at night and got a response from Justin right away. Justin asked me what I was looking to achieve and also asked for pictures. I was sick at dying my hair constantly to cover my grays since it is making my hair super dry and unhealthy. Justin listened patiently and explained to me that the results that I wanted won't be sustainable. I took his suggestions instead. The entire process took 5 hours and it came out amazing. Throughout the entire time, Justin and his assistant was checking on my hair and made sure I was hydrated. I love that this place is by appointment and you get undivided attention. I highly recommend this salon and will definitely come back in the future. I noticed a few negative reviews on here but tbh pictures you found online might look really good but it might not be suitable for you. I got a haircut here maybe a month ago. I showed him a reference picture I found on yelp that he cut on a different client a few months prior. I asked for long subtle layers with face framing pieces and he told me that he would have to cut the front pieces a lot shorter in order to achieve this. I trusted him and went along with it. The haircut looked good styled but when it's straight, I noticed that it looked very choppy and the layers were uneven. I'm just disappointed because I haven't cut my hair in over a year because of a previous bad haircut at a different salon. I came to see Justin for a haircut earlier this year and loved how my hair turned out. I usually have bad experiences with salons cutting my hair way too short than I would like it be -- or when they do a bad job cutting my hair. But with Justin, I told him what I wanted and he delivered. I decided to come back to Justin to get my hair done since I liked how my haircut turned out in my previous visit. Another reason is that the salon is close to where I live. I usually travel to Flushing to get my hair done, but I would have to pay at least $300+. Luckily, Justin was doing a promotion for balayage/ombré for $230. I booked my appointment with Justin through IG (his handle is xs_justin). He responds very quickly & efficiently. Justin is honest about what color he can achieve or not when you get to the salon. He cares about your hair and tries to keep damage as minimal as he can. He gives you his utmost, undivided attention. He's also very patient & doesn't rush the bleaching process. My hair took longer than expected and we stayed an extra two hours after closing! Had the best hair coloring experience by far. Justin and his assistant were super attentive to my hair needs and understood the final result that I wanted. I booked an appointment with Justin via Instagram--his handle is @xs_justin as I have been following his work for a while. He responded back quickly and I had an appointment set up within a day or two. My appointment was set for 12:30pm and I was the only client there at the time and we finally finished by 6pm. It took a while to bleach my very dark hair to the blonde balaye pink tips that I wanted. The bleaching process took the longest and the coloring and blow dry and style took about an hour. If you plan on going to get your hair dyed --make sure you eat a big lunch before coming in. Justin also provided refreshments which was lovely on a hot summer day. Prices are reasonable my hair came out to be $230 for balayage color, which was a steal! He has a promo going on for this price with a haircut as well. I've also gotten my hair cut by him a few months back since I was long overdue for a cut and he was great with listening to my requests and remembered me from that visit which was a great experience. I've gotten lots of compliments so far at work from my coworkers and I plan to send them all his way! Second time going to them for a hair balayage. Both times turned out exactly how I wanted and pricing was great. I made my appointment through Instagram and Justin the owner was able to get me an appointment on a Saturday afternoon. My hair is thick and very long so the whole process of bleach, tone, cut, style and dry took 6.5 hours but that was all worth it. My hair is still pretty healthy after the bleaching and I credit Justin and his assistant for it. I am moving to NJ soon, but I still plan on coming back to them for another balayage when time comes. Decided to try a new place and was glad that I did! There aren't many reliable salons in Brooklyn and the ones that are good are more like a factory where you're worked on by a million people.
