This review is for Rosy's eyebrow's downstairs. I've been going here for about 7 months now and I have never experienced racial discrimination. I'm African American and Rosy has always treated everyone equally. Rosy cares about her clients and is very content in what she does. When I first came to her I had no eye brows literally they were butchered. With the help of Rosy and her assistant I get compliments all the time. As far as the price goes, it's $15 with an appt and $20 without but you're only going to her once a month. Neither Rosy or her assistant has never come off to me as though the EXPECT a tip because if I can I do and if I can't I don't. I also appreciate the fact that they send you a text to remind you of your appointment and have no problems rescheduling you if you can't make your scheduled appointment. Overall, I have never had any issues with either Rosy or her assistant. They are very PROFESSIONAL and they CARE about their clientele. read more

Today was my first experience at this salon. I highly recommend it! John did highlights, a glaze, cut and blowout. I have long hair. I showed him 2 pics, one for color and one for cut. He did an awesome job! He gave me long layers like the pic I showed him and natural looking caramel highlights. He is a highly skilled stylist! We did not exchange much conversation and that did not bother me. A friend recommended the place to me and I was nervous but now I am very pleased I gave it a try. My finance complimented me immediately and told me my hair looked very nice.....without my probing him for a compliment. I also think the price is comparable to other salons. This review is for Rosys downstairs. I've always had thick eyebrows and stuck to the same person who waxed my eyebrows. But when I switched to threading, the salon that I went to REALLY thinned out my eyebrows and destroyed my original shape. It took me about 6-7 months at Rosys to restore my shape and now my eyebrows are better than before. She's very quick and careful. She's strict with appointment times and they may charge you $20 instead of $15 if you are late. However, she's really nice and has a great sense of humor. Rosy starts tweezing and making your shape. Then her girls thread, keeping the shape that she made, and then she checks and makes sure everything looks good. Tipping can be a little confusing and the first time I came in I didn't know who to tip since both rosy and someone else was working on my eyebrows. Some people don't tip at all. The girls will take the money from you, and I just tip whichever girl was doing the threading. I REALLY recommend Rosys! She's amazing!!! read more

I hate to write suboptimal reviews but I like to share my honest opinion.. I bought a double process on Groupon to go from honey blonde to platinum blonde. The salon has a very friendly vibe but it was an unprofessional experience for me. John did my hair for me and it was pleasant up until the finished product. When a salonist was blow drying the finished product, I noticed golden brassy roots and whiter ends. When I told him this, he laughed and had John come over. John tried to tell me the brass look in my roots was only because of the lighting. He proceeded to give the haircut portion of my Groupon which involved maybe 1/4th of an inch of my dead ends trimmed off, and unevenly. I noticed it was uneven and told him this and he also tried to show and tell me that he cut it even. I walked out pretty disappointed with my hair and came back in maybe 40 minutes after seeing the brassy roots in different lighting. When I came back and explained to him the roots are brassy, that's when he said "yes they are a little brassy aren't they?" and colored and toned the roots for me free of charge, and it turned out a lot better. Unfortunately the color washed out in 1-2 washes and I'm still left with golden roots and white ends. It was a pretty disappointing experience. I'm insecure about my hair now and I will have to see a blonde specialist about correcting it. read more

I recently broke up with my boyfriend. It was mutual and had nothing to do with the waitress at his job named renee (i assume an accented e somewhere). Anyway, i wasn't feeling insecure, i just thought maybe a just needed a trim. Went to dimaggio. My depression had turned me into a big dumb slob who knew nothing about hair care and he suggested a major cut. I said "do whatever" because if I knew what was best for me I wouldn't have cried into a latte then been asked to leave a starbucks in the area that day. anyway, nice shampoo and cut complete. Then in two sylables, three people came and dried and curled and sprayed my hair to a volume I thought it would have taken nasa to acheive. Then we took video, which i uploaded to instagram, obviously. It was a snow storm and i waited outside, then came in and they literally blowdried me until i was warm. Then my cab came and i went home and refluffed my new hair. Then went back out and had a very questionable night at a local kareoke bar. it stands though, dimaggio cares about your hair. read more

We clarified what we expected before he started working on my daughter and myself, and we were both unhappy and completely dissatisfied with the final outcome. Worst hair cut experience ever.I would give to this place 0 but unfortunately thats not allowed.First of all , when I went into the salon the hairdresser named John did not even bother to look at my hair or ask what kind of cut I want .Without analyzing my hair he rushed me straight to wash my hair.Now the worst part is , I mentioned him that I want keep my long hair still long and told him that I dont want a drastically change , but he was so in rush that he literally chopped my hair and the whole process was in 15minutes done.This is crazy, if you dont have spots available so do not mess up with clients hair by chopping their hair according to your imagination.Horrible experience , and when he started to cut my hair , I knew from the first cut that the amount he started to cut was not what I wanted , and I told him not to keep to cut because it was obvious that the lenght would come out as not what I expected, also I have curly hair and at the end of the day it would look shorter .I do not recommend this place, if you want a professional haircut and not be rushed overall will never go there again ad stay away from this place. read more

I WILL NEVER RETURN. On May 2nd, MY BIRTHDAY, I desperately needed to get a haircut and my eyebrows done. I had read reviews on Facebook about a woman named Rosy for eyebrows who was working at DiMaggio. T his is where the review is going to split - The Salon "DiMaggio" - I made an appointment for a haircut at 11am with Serena a few days in advance (based on reviews I had read). When I arrived, it was like an alien had just stepped into their establishment. I was not welcomed nor offered any beverages. I know this is a primarily Italian salon BUT srsly? Because I'm not white that must mean I don't deserve to be treated with respect. Serena was 45 mins late for the haircut (I was her first appointment of the day) - I was annoyed because there were a few stylists just standing around, doing nothing, NOTHING. Not cleaning, not cutting hair, just standing around chatting. When Serena showed up, she needed to talk to her people, get an iced coffee, basically gave ZERO FCKS that she had a client waiting on her. - She talked the entire time (it was pretty much loud screaming to people across the salon) - I asked for long layers and bangs - the layers were SUBPAR, didn't blend at all and my bangs looked like I cut them myself. - Wanted a voluminous blow out - NOPE. - Why did I have to wait over an hour for basically a trim? Quite a few people standing around and NOBODY was available? * I don't like feeling like I'm some animal out of a zoo. Like I'm a subpar citizen. It's definitely because I'm not white AKA my money isn't green. ROSY - I WILL NEVER RETURN TO ROSY FOR EYEBROWS. Rosy is extremely rude and nasty, unprofessional, overpriced, overrated and does exhibit prejudice against customers who are not her "regulars"... whatever that means. -It's $20 for walk in appointments and $15 with appointment. -Though Rosy is the only person doing your eyebrows, she works with another girl who threads and THEY BOTH EXPECT TIPS. -You'll still wait even with appointment. I went to Rosy 5-6 times and had to wait EVERY SINGLE TIME - even with appointment. -Rosy is RUDE. I CAN'T STRESS THAT ENOUGH. i made a suggestion about how i didn't like how she had arched one of my eyebrows - NO.NO.NO. She JUMPED down my throat about how I should go elsewhere. I did like the way she did my eyebrows but $20? ... COME ON. Here's the main reason I won't return to Rosy: They texted me in regard to confirming my appointment which was for the next week (8 days in the future) - I text back asking if I could reschedule that appointment to the day after or that weekend. I get a reply saying "NO. CONFIRM OR NO" Um? What? You're telling me that I can't reschedule? SO. I call Rosy a few minutes after receiving the text asking her why I can't reschedule this eyebrow appointment. The girl scheduling said "we can't". I ask why and tell her that I think her texting me telling me no is unprofessional. WHY?! Rosy gets on the phone and starts SCREAMING that she doesn't want my business and that I should never return. ARE YOU SERIOUS? ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS RESCHEDULE FOR THE NEXT DAY. *I can definitely say that Rosy is unprofessional, nasty, rude and prejudice against people who aren't "her people" aka caucasian or jewish. *DiMaggio Salon doesn't want non-Italians getting their hair done there. ----- Horrible experience with the salon and Rosy. Walking in here is like walking into the Italian version of The Nanny. Loud big haired women stroll through like they own the place. Strange older men selling their cigarettes picked up at Fort Hamilton for way discount prices. Even stranger men with suitcases full of bootleg DVD's and CD's. Your eyes sting as soon as you walk in from the smell of too much hairspray, color, bleach and hot air all in the same room. Inevitably there are small children and/or animals roaming around and of course, 103.5 KTU is blasting in the background. All of this and you can get a damn good haircut for under $50!!!! I AM SO DISAPPOINTED...LONG BEAUTIFUL HAIR WAS CHOPPED UP AND BUTCHERED This was the first and last time i will ever get my hair done here!!!!!!!!!....my FRIEND has been getting her hair done here for a while so she told me to go here......I have long straight brown hair .....all i wanted was a single process and a trim with side swept bangs....nothing complicated.....the color came out closer to black then dark brown but thats OK color fades and I think it looks cute darker anyway..... Sooooooo......the side swept bangs came out to be a disaster...the guy cut short pieces going all the way to the BACK OF MY HEAD WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....the bangs are not blended at all.... i asked for the bangs to be even on both sides.... they are drastically uneven not even freakin close.......... now i have to wait for it to grow in ....i went to another salon to try to fix it and they were shocked and practically laughing about how bad it was.....i didntt go back to have them fix it cause my theory is if they did it so wrong the first time whats the point of letting them try again....I am so sick of these Brooklyn/Sheepshead bay salons that think they can perform services when they really cant....overall I am just disapointed and feel ripped off UNLESS YOU LIKE TAKING CHANCES...DON'T GO HERE !!! I hate hate hate spending time at this place for the reason described by a previous poster...loud obnoxious Jersey Shore/Staten Island type music playing, loud mouth Housewives of Orange County types offering opinionated vacuous conversation and general cluelessness by clients that you're forced to sit beside. Why do I stand the punishment? The high quality styling at very reasonable prices. The owner John is an absolutely as nice as they come and very accommodating. You tell him exactly what you want and be as picky as you want to be and he does it as requested. He also keeps up to date on the latest trends. Granted, he gets interrupted often than most and that gets a little frustrating if you're in the seat. When I get my hair colored I dread the fact that I can't put my earphones on to drown everyone else out for fear of getting dye all over them. Yet, I make the commute and always leave a very satisfied customer. When it all boils down, it's an excellent cut and color for a low price and I won't have to see the others for at least another three months. read more

I don't write too many reviews but the service in this place is that bad. John the owner/ hairdresser is extremely rude, as others pn here have commented. He has absolutely no respect for the client's time. You can wait for literally over an hour and he won't ever apologize or be professional about it. If you ask for long layers, he will cut your hair so you have no layers and tell you that that's what works best for you. Then you will have to either wait or come back to him until he figures out that you are the paying customer and actually cuts your hair the way you ask. This has happened to me multiple times with him. When he's coloring your hair, and you're sitting there trying to relax, he will make you hand him the foils one by one as if you work there. Also, the toner he uses washes out in like 3 washes. The only reason I went to him for as long as I did was because his prices were what I could afford. Ladies, you get what you pay for! This guy is such a prick that if I could give negative stars I would. The last straw was this: I was running 10 minutes late for my appt, called, and the receptionist said it's not a problem. When I got there he was still working on his previous appt and even though I came up to him and apologized for running late he says with an attitude, "I know!" and continues to work on his other client. No hello, no pleasantries. While I was waiting for him, along with a row of other clients, he decided to take a walk-in. Other women started to comment how rude he was. At this point, it was at least a half hour past my appt .When I told him I thought I was next, he got an attitude telling me that there were appointments still waiting before me and that I was late! The fact that I was late made noooo difference whatsoever because he was still working on the other woman. I asked if he had anyone else to do my hair in the salon. He snapped "No! You can leave!" And so I did. He had his receptionist call me about a half hour later to tell me that I can come back. LOL!!! I told her to tell him what he could do with himself. Rumor has it he is losing a lot of clients and having a hard time paying his bills. Perhaps if he learned some tact and professionalism, he would be able to keep a client. And FYI, his brother Roy who is/ was also a hairdresser there is EXACTLY the same way in regards to time. Beware, if he went out the night before, he may not even show up for your appt the next morning. Moral of the story is, getting your hair done should never be this stressful. AMAZING. i don't really know about the salon itself, i never really gave it a try in terms of doing my hair, but for eyebrows and makeup- it is a must go! I am the most pickiest person when it comes to people doing my eyebrows, i am extremely judgmental and anal-so finding a good eyebrow lady who is consistent is very important, and that is just what i found. Her name is Rosy, she works downstairs and does both eyebrows and makeup. Let me tell you, i am the pickiest person alive and i don't even have to look into the mirror when she is done doing my eyebrows or makeup. Just amazing. I've been going to her for about 3-4 years now and I'm so happy. I noticed this salon which was right next to my dentist's office. I had been looking for a new place to go. After googling and reading excellent reviews, I went onto groupon and got a voucher for $105 for double coloring process, hair wash, hair cut and blow dry. Did an excellent job and the place was clean and the staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend. They also have other services (waxing, manicures, etc.) but I promised a friend we would have a spa day so I held off on any other services. Had my hair doubled colored and cut by the owner John and I am more than pleased. I'm hoping he emails the before and after so I can show my friends as I have no photos to show them.
