Mary mentioned that she used to own a salon, and after this experience, I understand why she no longer does. The color is completely off, the highlights are uneven, and the overall result is just terrible. I have thin hair, and the haircut with multiple layers made everything worse-- and throughout the process I was literally being hit in the face with my own wet hair as she cut. It felt chaotic and unprofessional. The result was such a disaster that I had to go to another salon and pay a significant amount to fix it. The hairstylist there was shocked and kept repeating that some people simply should not be doing hair. I spent an entire week tying my hair up just to hide how bad it looked. To make matters worse, the payment experience was incredibly uncomfortable. I paid her immediately via Zelle and even tipped her in cash. Because the transfer wasn't instant (we have different banks), she became upset and made me stay while I called my bank to prove that I had paid. It was humiliating and unnecessary. Afterward, I sent her photos to show how disastrous the result was, and her only response was to tell me to book another appointment. There is no way I would trust her to fix this. I asked for a refund, which I now realize I likely won't receive after seeing other similar reviews. This was an extremely disappointing and stressful experience. I strongly recommend going elsewhere.

I found this salon on Groupon and made an appointment for the $84 deal for a cut, highlight, and…read moreblow out. When I got to my appointment it was clear they were overbooked and busy. Turns out there is an additional cost of $50 for toner and $20 for full highlights. The stylist was in a rush and my highlights came out extremely yellow, streaky, and asymmetrical. It was not close to what I asked for (I showed a picture of what I wanted) and it didn't look natural or blended like other highlights I've gotten. The front is very blonde with random highlights distributed unevenly that look almost unfinished. I paid for toner to help with the color and paid extra for full highlights all over and that is not what I got. I called to schedule a time for her to fix it and when I came in at the time of my appointment, she wasn't there. I called the stylist and she said she was on vacation and proceeded to tell me that she said a different day. This salon lacks customer service, professionalism, attention to detail and quality.

I was new in town and deathly afraid of letting anyone touch my hair. I wanted to get my hair…read morestraightened, so I knew I would have to bite the bullet and try a salon and stylist out. I decided to try G's because of its proximity to my job and because it's an Aveda concept salon. I called and made an appointment for the same day. Because they gave me this spot so easily, I assumed they were 'squeezing me in' and I'd have to wait awhile. When I arrived at the salon, I was checked in by a friendly receptionist who asked me to have a seat in the waiting area at the rear of the salon. I was only waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so when I was greeted by my stylist. My stylist, named Summer, seemed genuinely thrilled to be doing my hair. She gushed about how pretty my hair was, and how she has natural hair too. I knew then that this was going to be a wonderful experience. Summer asked me what services I wanted and how I wanted my hair styled. We chatted a good bit while she styled my hair, because she's so bright and bubbly. She gave me advice and politely let me know I'd need a trim soon (no bullying zone). She followed all my wishes to a 'T' (no hot combs on my head, no way, no how). And my hair turned out silky straight and absolutely gorgeous! She even offered to pin curl my hair before I left the salon to maintain my style. Unfortunately, you have to bring your own pins if you want this perk. Oh yeah, I had to subtract a star because I feel $95 (plus tip! But Summer earned that tip!) is a bit steep for a press n' curl. I don't feel any press n' curl is worth that much, however, I will definitely return to G's to be styled by Summer. I may even let her trim my hair next time. I'd also recommend her to any of my natural girls who like to rock it straight from time to time.

I have been going here for about 5 years. I have been through three stylists. Cherie, Mike, & Joel…read more I love the products they use and I have never had a problem with my stylists. They never trimmed more than I asked and my hair always looked great after a blow out. $65 for a blow out is just my speed. My stylists always occupied the last chair in the salon which I think may have something to do with the pricing. Not sure. I always hated the raggedy waiting area couches and wondered why they never made an attempt to make that look better. Reception leaves a lot to be desired. One time I was charged twice for a visit. The charge was done 2 weeks after my initial service so that was very suspect. But when I brought it to their attention they took care of it and I just vowed to use cash going forward. I'm due for a trim now and I called to make an appointment. The man who answered said that Joel didn't work there anymore. I asked if there was someone who has taken his place. He said no and that was it. No attempt to try to make an appointment for me or place me with another stylist.

She's well-versed in hair care and takes her time on her cutting, coloring and styling. Her portion of this review is FIVE STARS! However, I'm leaving a 2 star review for the nail services. I called the salon - which I only love 5 minutes from, back in May for an appointment with Phelisia. I was told that her calendar was full for June but would open on June 25th for July. I advised that I was a new client and would call back on the 25th to schedule. On June 25th, the salon was closed for business but the calls are still answered so I was told to call back on June 26th to schedule. On the 26th I was advised that as of the Saturday before (6/22), Phelisia told the front desk staff that she's not accepting new clients for July. I advised that I had been planning to make this appointment for 6 weeks and that fell on deaf ears. When I questioned when she'd be opening her books for new clients, I was told there wasn't a date (that it would likely not be 'forever'). I say all this to say, as a black-owned hair/nail studio that not only I patronized but have had others close to me patronize/become repeat customers (in the heart of Fort Greene where gentrification has taken over), it's important to communicate accurately so that people aren't taken by surprise like this. In my gut, I felt like this appointment would never happen anyway because the artist only provides a phone number on her IG page and doesn't answer direct messages regarding her services. Always a red flag, in hindsight. My recommendation: if you're looking for convenience, don't bother trying to book for Phelisia's book. The attached photo is from her Instagram story on 6/26 that still doesn't advise that she's not taking new clients but when you call and ask - they explain that bookings are for existing clients only. I sincerely feel for those who waited like I did only to be denied an appointment. A friend of mine actually decided not to pursue these services as well because of this. Just BAD BUSINESS! I'm not sure about the work of the other artist (Veronica) but one might have better luck getting in with her. Anything else is a waste of precious time to be frank.
