Rod set done by Kisa
Kristen G.

I actually wish I could give this place a 4.5. The pros far outweigh the cons. Pros: 1. I love this salon. It is conveniently located across from BAM with pretty much every subway line within a few blocks. The environment is always clean and comfortable. Everyone here has been friendly and professional to me so far. 2. Kisa Alexander is THE BEST! She has a warm personality that puts customers at ease, and she is always willing to listen and give you exactly the look you are going for. She is very professional, keeps me laughing, and she takes her time to give each customer their individual attention in her chair. I have long, thick natural hair, and Kisa uses only the best products and minimal heat to keep my hair healthy and looking great. I highly recommend her! 3. They also have a new nail tech who is very creative and does great nails. I have seen her work, but I haven't had a chance to try her out yet. Cons: 1. As wonderful as it is, I have had to wait a considerably long time before anyone got started on my hair (even though I had appointments). I am pretty patient, but I could have gone to get something to eat in the meantime had I known there would be a longer wait. That brings me to my next point... 2. You cannot eat in the salon. The receptionist will swoop down on you with the quickness if you even look like you're about to unwrap some food. I do understand keeping the salon clean, but we all know how many hours a salon visit may take. Customers have to step outside to eat. For the amount of money I spend in this place, it would be nice to at least be able to eat in the waiting area. 3. It can get pricey. I pay $70ish for a blowout/press and $125 for a rod set. This is not a low budget salon, folks. The products and service are top quality, though. You get what you pay for.

I tend to get 60-90 minute nail art, most found on Pinterest. The health of my nails is much better since I've been going to miGak consistently. It's my natural nails, no extensions needed. The polish and the removal do not destroy my nails like Vanity Projects and other comparable nail shops. Everyone is sweet. I book online at Vagaro. You do need to plan ahead. I usually book my appointment right after I get my manicure. I can usually go 4-5 weeks and I rarely have chipped nails.

My nails look great. The technician was wonderful. However, the woman at the front desk had a bad attitude and was not nice at all. She never smiled, I was not offered the opportunity to make another appointment after I paid, (which has never happened), and while I was waiting for my change, she was texting. I was standing right in front of her and she continued texting and didn't give me my change until she finished on her phone. That is very unprofessional. I don't know her issue but that is not how customers should ever be treated. Disappointing.

Beautiful, newish and clean (or so I thought) nail salon. I always pass by so I decided to stop in…read morebecause they offer structure gel. Service was friendly. The structure gel took a long time so I thought it was going to be perfect and last long. However the very next day (10/3) I got a big chip. Went back to fix it (10/4) and then the next day (10/5) I see that many of my fingers have small chips that are most likely going to turn into big ones. To top it all off my finger is swollen, red, warm and tender!!! The tenderness began a day after on 10/3, as if from an infection. But by 10/5 my finger was swollen as if it was going to burst and 10/6 the cuticle was filled with puss. They did clip my cuticles alottttt. Like first one lady prepped my nails and clipped the cuticles but then the lady who actually applied the gel did it again before she started. So I'm pretty sure it's from that. I wanted to love this place but I'll never be back. I guess that's what I get for trying an out a spot and not sticking with my old faithful and to think I paid $85 for this service plus a tip. Update: I went back today 10/6 and was refunded. They were apologetic but I still won't be back.

Angela was super sweet and expert, and the whole experience (organic manicure) was $30 cash, and I felt fab afterwards. Give it a whirl, and see for yourself!
