Wonderful service and friendly staff! I came here, completely by chance, after looking up a couple of salons in the area. I had been unhappy with where I had been getting my haircut previously and needed a change. I called the same day and was able to get a spot within two hours, a rarity these days with salons. Sometimes you need a week in advance and I am not about that life. Ruth was my stylist and she was terrific. She took the time to listen to my needs, made some suggestions and then got to work. I ended up with a great cut and spent half of what I had expected, a much welcomed surprise. What I really like about Elements are a few things: aside from the lovely staff, the space is enormous and you don't feel cramped and on top of other guests. I also like the free tea, coffee, water, and the incredible head and hand massage given to you after they wash your hair. Tips are cash only! I really liked this salon the first time I went. They gave me a great deal on my cut/color. However, as a repeat customer, I was completely shafted! I didn't ask for a price quote, because I was literally getting the same treatment. I was out in half the time that I was the first time around, but.... the bill was over 100 dollars more! I balked but they were completely rude. Always ask first. I was pretty upset. Maybe because I'm young they thought they could take advantage? I'm not sure. I had a Junior Stylist, Cori, cut my long hair, which had no shape or style since I had not gone to a salon in so long. I asked her to give my hair some personality and she totally did. I love that you get coffee or tea during your cut. I love that the shampoo sinks have adjustable kneck rests so you don't have to lean all the way back and be uncomfortable. All day, after my cut, people were commenting on my hair and how healthy it looked, or how the hair cut looked really expensive. Nope! Only $47. This is going to be my new salon, for sure. read more

I'm not picky about my hair; I normally go to Astor Place. I recently gave Element a try as it's in my neighborhood and, by NYC standards, has less-egregious prices ($55 for an above the ear cut). I went to Corinne due to her many positive Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, she gave me a horrible haircut - probably the worst of my life. I say horrible because it was very, very uneven across the front. (I would add a photo if I could, and you would not believe a salon gave such a haircut.) I asked Corinne to take as little as possible off the front, since I'm growing out my hair. She left my bangs as they were (3" long) in some places - but cut them down to 1" long in other places. But, she did this randomly, so there are multiple peaks and valleys across my forehead. Seriously. From the front, I look like a 9-year-old found a pair of scissors and went at my hair. When she styled my hair at the end, she slicked it completely back, so unfortunately, I didn't notice the severe crookedness until I got home. By then it was too late. Even a cheap place like Supercuts cuts hair carefully enough that the two sides of your head resemble each other, and your bangs are roughly even all the way across. I may have job interviews coming up, and it's frustrating to have a terribly uneven haircut. I have no idea how this was so badly botched, but I would steer clear of this salon. read more

All of the people there are enthusiastic artists who enjoy working together and seem to truly have a passion. It's very professional and comfortable. I highly recommend this place. I have been going to Elements for cuts and color for about a year and have been very impressed. I found the salon after having a horrible experience at Le Chandelier. Basically I asked the stylist there for a little red highlight in my hair and I left with a deep purplish mess! Corinne saved me and was able to take out the red and give me a very natural blend of color and highlights. Just last week, I visited Corinne for the 4th time for a cut color and highlight. I was pleased but not overjoyed with the color so I called back the next day for a color correction. She was FANTASTIC! Corinne corrected the color, apologized for the fact that I had to come back and then wouldn't even accept my tip! Of course I was not charged for the correction either. I went here last month to have my medium brown hair ombred into a rich red. The technique was spot on and blended well but the red wasn't the shade I asked for. I had several photos and the woman (I don't remember her name) promised she would get it spot on. For $200+ I was obviously bummed. I should have went back and asked them to fix it but I was afraid it would just be worse. I ended up changing it myself with an over-the-counter box. If you're adventurous or not looking for something in particular, I definitely recommend it. But if you already have a vision for what you want your hair to look like, forget it. read more

This company over processed my hair. I bleached my hair blonde and I was under the dryer for about 2 hours. I later washed my hair and ran my fingers through my hair. I look at my hand and a whole chunk of hair came out of my head. I now have to where clip-ons to hide my hair. I was trying to go from dark to light. This salon is on the block where I live so I figured it was worth a try. I was scheduled with Jenny and she asked me if I just wanted it shortened up. I said yes because who tries a new hairstyle with a new stylist? So she proceeded to completely change the the shape of my hair. I had a pixie cut with long sideburns and she cut them off! Then cut the hair around my ear in a straight shape when I asked her to follow the curve of my ear. I asked her to fix it and now the hair around one ear is nice and round, the other ear is still straight. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I LOVE the fact that they put your coat, purse, etc in a locker and give you the key. read more

I just had an appt a few hours ago with Gabby and she was AWESOME! I'm very picky when I get beautified (lol) but she did a perfect job. Very receptive to how I wanted my hair. My hair grows VERY fast and unfortunately have a lot of grey hair so I can't really afford to have it professionally dyed every few weeks and I'm always apprehensive getting a hair cut cause stylist make me feel like an idiot for box dying my hair. But she didn't at all, she asked about it and then gave a tip to help me out but didn't make me feel bad at all and I really appreciated that. I will for sure continue to get my hair cuts from her! Curious policies here. Had my haircut twice by Patti, each time she said just come back if you want a little more off because I wasn't sure about the length. I've always had salons allow me to come back if I need a tweak because my hair is wavy it's hard to tell if the cut is enough, or correct for me. After roughly 10 days I hated the cut and just needed more off/ more shaping. Called to ask for 5 minutes of her time and got an appt. from Juan. Later he calls back basically canceling my appointment because too much time had passed???!!! I spent $50 for a man's haircut, not a small price, and they don't seem welcoming to help fix my haircut. This fabulous salon will change your life! I have been going to Elements for a couple of years now and I should have written this sooner! I LOVE THIS SALON!! I tried it one day just to have quick trim and touch up color because I couldn't get in to my usual (very famous and high-end salon in SOHO) and was lucky to have had Gabrielle as my stylist/colorist. For some reason I felt so comfortable with her and decided to let her cut my medium/long hair short into a stylish, extremely chic and cool cut that very moment. She was not pushy nor would she do anything unless I was very comfortable. I have no idea, after decades of just trimming my hair and being so nervous about change, why this stylist just was spot on and made me feel great. Gabrielle gave me the best cut and color one could have ever dreamed of! I not only got a gazillion compliments the minute I left the salon (people on the street stopping me, in airports saying it was the best cut and they wanted it, "so cool and edgy and yet classic...most natural color, rich...beautiful...gorgeous, etc.) but now, a few years into it, and growing the shorter cut to a slightly longer, looser (fun and fresh) style...the compliments keep flowing in! I have to also comment on how friendly everyone is in the salon (Corinne, Jose, Robert-all lovely and friendly and talented.) I am always greeted so cordially with offers of delicious coffee (iced in the summer) and love seeing Gabrielle for touch ups who never, ever makes me wait when I arrive. She is always ready and vivacious and sweet and professional. This is a top notch salon and everyone who I have recommended (editors of major fashion magazines for example) to try it have ended up making it their place and have returned over and over. I should have known I would be unimpressed when I waited for my stylist for longer than the length of time it took her to cut my hair. 15 minutes and lots of gel later, she rushed me out the door, but not before trying to charge me $10 more than I was quoted over the phone. If I could have seen the cut through the crunchy hair product I would have protested and asked for a real haircut. I have had my hair every color in the book from platinum to black so my hair is kind of rough. I came in with dark brown hair, looking to go blonde (I know kind of a stretch). They put me with Jenny and I absolutely could not be happier with the outcome. 0 breakage, my hair feels healthier now then before. The highlights aren't brassy and go with my skin perfectly. I've been going to Gabrielle at Elements since about a year and a half ago when they were still on 5th Ave. (Park Slope), after my beloved Japanese place in the city increased their price to $75 or something ridiculous. Elements took me as a walk-in, with no wait at all, were very friendly, and I got a great hair cut. My hair is short and curly, so I've definitely been butchered many times, but Gabrielle talked to me for a while first, which sounds like an obvious thing but I've had experiences in which the scissors start right away. Now Elements is in a much nicer, larger space, which is all that's changed. The price did go up when they moved - but it's still only $45!!! They offer you water or coffee when you walk in and everyone smiles at you. I've never had to wait more then 5 minutes - and I usually show up at least 15 minutes early. I don't even live in the neighborhood anymore but as long as the price doesn't skyrocket, I'll keep going back. read more

She suggested the most flattering way to part my hair considering my face--the kind of advice that's hard to find. Besides booking with them for my wedding, I also decided to book a separate appointment with Jenny to cut and color my hair... and I couldn't be happier with her work. I have long thick curls which have intimidated other stylists, but Juno handled my hair with the patience and technique of a true pro.
