Before coming all the way from manhattan. I called and inquiries about pricing and if that had availability. I spoke with the owner who was polite over the phone. I reached the salon at 10 am.. I came with my sister and her new born baby... I wasn't informed on the phone about the no kid policy. So she told me when I got there. But it like what do you want me to do? I came from manhattan it's like 100 degrees outside. I found that to be very rude. I let that go and waited in my car Bc the guy who was supposed to do my hair wasn't there. I waited for about an hr... came back and she's like oh he's still not here! So I ask her how long she thinks he will be ? She had no clue Bc he was not answering his phone. So I waited patiently for another hr. It's 2 hrs of waiting in my car still no stylist. Then she gives me the option of waiting 30 mins for her to finish her clients hair .. or reschedule At this point I'm livin. I took my weave out to start treating my natural hair. So I found this place on Yelp went to the page of the salon on Instagram and saw that the colorist was really good. I was able to luckily book an appointment on the same day. Which I thought was great! I have natural brown hair I wanted to go to platinum blonde. Now everyone knows when going to the salon it's an all day process, I understand that however, it seemed the owner was more annoyed than I was and I'm the one who was there for 6 and 1/2 hrs (11:00 am -5:32 when I got back into the car). Shocking! Where it gets ridiculous, so I was originally quoted one price for the color I showed his mother (the owner) which consisted of like a blonde and grey mix, she quoted me the price of $125. (I have short hair about 6") she asked what i wanted to do after I said a cut and curl would be fine she quoted an additional $25 I said ok. Around my 5th hr (4:00) I told the mom I no longer wanted to have my hair cut and curled I wanted to speed up the process, she said fine. When the colorist finally came back from the store after having to go buy the color he takes out foil (nooo not salon foils but regular aluminum foil) his mother asks him "oh did you tell your client it would be extra $25 for foils" (which I totally felt she chose to do after I mentioned to her no longer wanting her curls and cut). Let's be real, she had already seen the color she should have inquired with the colorist before hand what the service would require (since she claims she wouldn't have known the "foils" were needed). Also the salon has a no children, no eating, no drinking, no one allowed if not doing their hair policy that they tackily text to you after having booked an appointment. So don't expect the whole "thanks for booking an appointment with us, ... blah blah" message ... it ain't coming! I am giving them 3 stars because I feel that the customer service sucked! The colorist is talented but once caught up in the drama clearly started to no longer care about the quality of the work and I saw it in the end result my hair color is of course nothing like the picture I showed him and i somehow have lavender sides. The owner (see below) now claims I received a discounted price to accommodate me for my wait when the fact remains the same, she saw the color I wanted at 11:00am upon arrival before quoting me a price. What she charged me Was her quote not mines. Her son the colorist saw the color I wanted when he arrived, at that point a discussion should have occurred between the two what had to be done to achieve said color (since she claims she didn't know he needed to use foils) and then the client notified what additional cost might have been needed or additional work to achieve the look.... Ever since relocating from the South to New York, the arduous task of finding a stylist who actually executes my desired look in a timely manner without price-gouging has been practically impossible! The relationship between a hair stylist and her customer mimics an actual romantic relationship. If the stylist is on point, caters to your needs and leaves you feeling beautiful n' happy-- everyone is satisfied and loyalty isn't a question. If the stylist doesn't make you feel like a priority (forcing you to wait hours before even being acknowledged and shampooed) , takes all your money without any consideration to your requests and fails to make you feel your best... guess what?!? Time to find a replacement, right (and a new man!)?!??!? I'm very happy to say that Nilijah is my "HairBae" who has a 'forever client' as long as I live in NYC! Her location is conveniently located near the A, C train in Bedford Stuyvesant (Nostrand or Kingston-Throop) on Fulton St. She is beyond punctual and never double books, her cutting technique is precision personified (I have a short cut and always receive sooooo many compliments after leaving her chair. She puts me in touch with my inner Halle Berry), the products she utilizes always leaves my hair feeling nourished (even after a relaxer treatment) and... **wait for it** she is affordable!!! Yes-- that's right! You won't have to miss consecutive meals or panhandle on the way home on account of your new hair makeover!!!!! Both her and her son, Orlando, create the most amazing frontal and wig experiences! I have yet to personally acquire one (I plan to this summer), but I have seen some gorgeous looks and transformations leaving the salon! When I made the appointment over the phone I specifically asked if the blow dry deal included curls and they said yes. Once my hair was done, I was charged separately for curls. I just got my full head weave cut in a bob and colored here. It turned out perfect. I am afraid of light colors but my stylist was so confident and encouraged me along the way. The process was quick and simple. They honored my appointment and I left very pleased. I have gotten endless compliments on both the cut and color. The best part was how my stylist Orlando slayed my edges! The edges of my hair are left out to blend with the weave and I don't have a perm/mixed hair (coarse 4c hair). He did some magic and now it blends seamlessly. All of the stylists are very personable and friendly. I don't get that vibe from many salons which is such a shame. I actually enjoyed my time here. The only critique I have is the coupon I purchased on yelp is not valid for color treatments. On the other hand, I will be going back when I take out my weave to treat my natural hair. I came in for a silk press/wash/ trim and got more than I expected. I am picky when it comes to finding someone to do my hair so when I saw the photos from the Beauty Boutique I was in awe. Orlando did an amazing job on my hair. I started transitioning from relaxed to natural in July 2015. I wouldn't have been able to deal with the shortness from the "Big Chop" so I end up having curly and straight hair. Orlando helped me realize that the relaxed hair I was holding on to was causing my natural hair to grow slow n wasn't healthy. So I got all of the relaxed ends cut off. He and his mother knew that I was afraid to rock short hair so they added some weave to my hair. I love how they cared about my hair and not just the money. This place is unprofessional and has poor customer service! I called to inquire about a hair color and haircut. I was told that they must see my hair in order to determine how the color would look so, the Receptionist guided me through the steps on how to book a consultation online. I did and my appointment was confirmed for 6:15 pm on 9/23/21. On the day of my scheduled consultation I decided to take an Uber to ensure I got there on time because they do have a lateness policy. I took an Uber and arrived to a CLOSED HAIR SALON! It was closed and gated up. I stood there bewildered so I called them. A woman answered the phone and I explained to her that I was there for my scheduled consultation. She told me she just missed me and apologized. Her apology wasn't even heart-warming at all. It was like an "Oh well, not my problem" type of feel/vibe that I got. She then proceeded to tell me that I could send her a pic of my hair so she can determine from the photo. My question is, why wasn't I told this over the phone when I booked my appointment??? You mean to tell me that I could have sent photos of my hair in the first place and didn't have to come in-person??? What kind of nonsense is that! I was so upset that I was utterly speechless. I couldn't believe I spent money for an Uber to arrive to a closed shop! At that point I was turned off and got off the phone. I booked another Uber for the ride home. I spent $70 in cab fare to go and return home for no reason! I will not be returning to this establishment. My time, energy and money was wasted. My situation should have been handled differently. When they realized they made that mistake they should have accommodated me. I should have been offered a discounted service or something for my time. That's how you handle situations like these! Great job on hair, however misleading when it came to the bill. I got $50 for $75 service deal. When I advised her of it at the end of my service she responded with we aren't honoring it and we were supposed to take it down. So she decided to honor the $50 initial pay but not the $25 savings. When I countered with basically it's not my problem if you didn't take it down, she smiled and said I can honor the $50 or I can honor $0. She said if I would have mentioned it over the phone she would have told me it wasn't valid. But that's not my issue and to me poor customer service over $25. went for a consultation due to not having a perm in 7 months and wanted to cut hair due to thinning. She was 45 mins late for the confirmed consultation. Went to get the hair style that she has a picture of stating she did the style , Short cut, tapered sides with a little flip in the front. First of all, she used the cheap designer touch perm. said she did not have to cut that much, she cut it very short. She did not deep condition after perm and she did not use a heat proptection spray while curling. She did not give me the style from the picture, it was a different style- I do not think she created the style in the professional shot. Paid $100.00., oh she was also late for the appt. Style looked pretty good when I left . The next 2 days after the curls dropped, I noticed the cut was very very very uneven, choppy, hair long in some spots , short in others. Thin areas was showing . Very horrible job. Went to a local salon over the week end to get hair re cut and styled, looks great, even cut, hair is blended and it cost me 40 bucks less and thats including a black hair rinse. I thought Nilijah was going to be a good stylist for me, I get my hair done weekly and dont mind paying but after her lateness , bad shabby work and cheap perm is not what Im looking for. I think the owner posting such a response shows you what kind of acrimonious, vindictive person she is and another reason not to go here. I did not lie about anything. And if anything, she is being dishonest as there is no notification to clients of this so-called 72 hr policy and I have the text to prove that said 48 hrs at the time, now it's 72 hrs. Even had I contacted them 3 days later when they were open again, she said "there is nothing I can do if it wasn't w/in 48hrs". Not to mention she said give it a few days to a week to settle. Also, I was told the style could last up to 2-3 weeks; I wasn't planning on keeping it that long, but that is a dishonest claim as you can see from the pictures what it looked like w/in 12 hours of getting it done. In any instance, there is always going to be "nothing I can do" because that is how she does business. Beware: the phrase "the customer is always right" does not apply at Beauty Boutique and they will not help you even when they do a bad job. Update: To Nilijah: I'm not going to respond after this comment. I see you keep changing your comments: first, you make up some 72 hr policy that you share with clients, when it seems you don't even know what policy is as it keeps changing so you're definitely not sharing it with clients. Then, you call me a liar and now you fabricate some story about why I'm writing the review. Had you actually read my 1st review instead of just going off because you cannot handle criticism, I explain that I educated myself on hair care, started styling my hair myself w/ the counsel of a friend. So I haven't had a hard time finding a salon as I haven't been looking. Working with you was enough to put me off from salons for a lifetime, and if I do go back, maybe I'll post a review so you can stay up-to-date on my salon adventures. I continue to go to this salon no matter the location or price because Nilijah keeps it real with everyone no matter what . She doesn't sugar coat anything and she recommends the best products that she knows will work for my hair . Her rules are pretty simple - no eating, no drinking, no children. I enjoy those rules because you come to relax and get away from everything. I'm pretty sure the clients don't want to be around children watching them play around or god forbid, a child gets burned from a flat iron or something. I first visited this salon in the dead of winter 1/2014 for a wash & condition blow dry and cut. The owner Nilijah ( I'm positive I just spelled that wrong) was very accommodating and very welcoming.I was very pleased with my results b.c. my hair had started to break and I was prepared to do the BIG CHOP !!!!!!!!!! to my surprise it (my hair) wasn't as bad as I thought and she saved way more than I ever imagined. My hair( which she flat ironed) came out fabulous as if I just got a perm (no perm in 10 mths & counting). I went into this hair appointment very excited because of all the awesome Yelp reviews but as soon as I arrived to the salon, my excitement began to wane. I arrived to the salon 10 mins before my 11am appointment and it was closed. I called the salon and my call wasn't answered. A few mins later, the person called me back and told me that she'd be there in 10 mins. I waited outside the salon for 40 mins. I decided to leave. 5 mins into my walk back to the bus, the hairstylist texts me to let me know she's in the salon. I'm not one to write reviews, but this was a truly great experience. I've always rolled my eyes at people who put that a salon has a "nice environment" and always just skip to the parts about the results, but I've realized today that that is because I've never had an actually GOOD experience at a hair salon. I walked in without an appointment expecting to wait anywhere from 30 mins to an hour and a half. Not so. Nilijah engaged me as soon as I walked in, rather than ignoring me for 5 minutes, let me know there would be a slight wait because I didn't have an appointment and less than 10 minutes later I was getting my hair washed. The shop was clean and cool, Nilijah was very personable, and my hair looks amazing. She gave me a lot of tips on how to keep my hair healthy and when I explained that I'm trying to wean myself off of relaxers she was supportive. I'm used to dealing with people who tell me I'm going to have to cut off all of my hair or who discourage going natural, but Nilijah promotes healthy black hair and is very knowledgeable on how to achieve beautiful results without using chemicals. My hair was cut, treated, and styled to perfection! No complaints here! This duo is superstar material. This was my first time visiting The Beauty Boutique and I must say I was really impressed. After losing my spot on Saturday, I was able to get in the chair the following Monday (their day off). Orlando greeted me with a big smile and was ready to start on my hair right away. Because of the inconvenience on Saturday, I was offered an upgraded service. Right away, I knew they understood customer service. I was so surprised and appreciative. Orlando worked soooo fast. My appointment was at 6 and I was out by 9 (he made a whole Frontal unit!) Once he placed the unit on my head, I was amazed at how snug it fit - it was not going anywhere! Then it was time to slay my Frontal! I used to walk past this salon all the time being that I live in close proximity of it. There's other salons that have been in the area for the longest and not once have I considered having my hair done at any of them. However, this salon interested me. I finally went in and have been a customer going on a year now. She was upfront with me about my damaged hair and listened to me when I told her I didn't want it to be cut off all at one time being that I'm not good at handling short hair. She has treated my hair, gave me excellent trims WITHOUT CHOPPING, and always been upfront about any services I inquire about. On top of it all it's a very relaxing environment to be in with a CLEAN bathroom (nasty bathrooms in salons are a pet peeve of mine). I would definitely recommend Nilijah.
