I love this salon but I love the stylist more she is really is wonderful to be around. Her salon is a vibe I love the decor and the music. Her playlists are always a vibe. What I love the best is that she was always able to color match my sew-in's to my leave out perfectly they were always seamless. She is going to get your hair healthy and make sure you leave satisfied. Many stylist today can't be call true stylist as you need to come prep prior to select services. Fabstylist is back up and running by appointment only! Everything was clean and I felt completely at ease. Like most people I have been nervous about the outside world. When you come in, you're asked to sanitize your hands, put on a disposable mask and your temperature is taken. Stations are cleaned after each client. Also there is a lot less people in the salon. The appointments are nicely spaced out so that there's isn't more than 3 people in there at a time. The quality of the service, as always was on point. It's been three weeks since I went to get a silk press here and I'm still upset every morning when I look in the mirror. Because the last trim I got was a blunt cut that I wasn't pleased with, she was pretty easily able to talk me into a trim. I have a rule about getting trims from people the first time I sit in their chair, but it was my birthday and I wanted to look really good. The pictures on her website (styleseat/instagram) of her cuts seemed good, so I broke my rule. I am KICKING myself. First, the silk press. She did it in huge sections, putting as much of the hair in the flat iron as she could at a time. The sections were so big that my hair kept getting caught in the flat iron and pulled out -- it hurt! I didn't understand why she wasn't going all the way down to the root. She wrapped it in cling wrap and put me under the dryer. I typically love this technique, except she left my roots natural! And then sent me on my way. I was not pleased with that. Second, the trim. Ya'll......we talked about giving me long layers that were not drastic. That was the WHOLE conversation. Even in that conversation I felt like she wasn't really hearing me because she kept cutting me off and talking over me. But I made sure to get my point across, or so I thought. She even showed me how much she was gonna cut off, which was about 2 inches. I was nervous but really wanted to look good for my birthday. Somehow, I now have hair that is shorter in the back and longer in the front.....I did not want a high low bob. The layers are so dramatic in the back that my mom kept asking me if she thinned my hair out. When my hair is in a wash and go (type 4) it looks like a mushroom. When I have it in a twist out, it comes down to points on the side and looks flat in the back. AND she cut most of my ombre color off. I'm so sad ya'll. So sad. Lastly, the finish. She did not deliver a finished look like I'm used to. When I left there, I did not look like it was my birthday. I didn't even want to take a picture of it because I looked basic. She basically just bumped the ends. I gave an extra star because she was nice....kinda. I mean, nice for a New Yorker if that makes sense? I'm from Atlanta and people are hella nice there. Also, I can tell that she won't damage your hair if you go here. So at least there's that. If you need someone to nurse your hair back to health, it seems like she can do it. She has a very nice salon across the street from a cute coffee shop. She takes precautions for covid. If I would have liked my hair, I would be recommending her, because she is running a nice establishment. But I hate my hair so much. I start each day trying to do something with it and feeling frustrated and sad. I literally almost cried this morning when taking down my twist out. Then I start work and try to forget about it. That is not why I go to a salon for a service. I go there to feel brand new and cute. She was so worried about my color and my keratin treatment I had and how my ends weren't perfect and I had breakage in areas, that she didn't give enough energy to making me look good. She is one of those stylists that acts like you are starting a new journey with your hair just because it's your first time in their chair. But I've been doing my hair all of my life. I wasn't looking for a new journey, I just wanted to look good on my birthday in a city where I don't have a stylist yet. read more

This review is long overdue! I was in a pretty desperate situation around May of this year. I was leaving for a wedding in the Caribbean the next morning and hadn't found a hair stylist to relax my very much in need of a cut hair. I left work at 5 and while still in front of my job in Manhattan I Yelped 'black hair stylist' and some 17 miles away Fabstylist popped up. I didn't even have my search set to Brooklyn, but the Yelp gods pitied me and sent Sharntai my way. I called and she was very sweet and professional and said she had a 6:30 PM slot for that evening! I arrived right on time and waited maybe 20 minutes at most, which was great having scheduled so last minute. I got a deep treatment ($35), wash and cut (~$105 I believe). I asked for a low maintenance style that would withstand the humidity, being that the wedding was one day after my arrival. She gave tips on how to maintain the style. Lo and behold, given my aquatic ways I couldn't resist heading straight to the beach once I landed, but made sure not to get my hair wet. The next day, I was still able to effortlessly bump my hair into the perfect style. The deep treatment set my hair straight! My hair was super soft, held the style and responded SO well. I've since returned for a trim/cut/treatment twice and Sharntai is talented at her craft. Definitely somewhere I'd revisit for a treat--i.e a needed cut and steam treatment, but my pockets can't handle visiting here frequently. It's steep, but you're paying for technique. read more

Please ladies, DO NOT book her for your wedding (or any other occasion) because she may just cancel on you the week before like she did to me!! To think I've been going to this woman for years!! One week before my big day she backed out after getting overwhelmed with our bridal party size and day-of needs. I booked Sharntai months prior to my wedding and she agreed to do hair for 9 women. I asked her at the time if she was sure she could handle a party of that size because I'd have no problem hiring a second stylist. It was an early morning wedding and we discussed what the get-ready times would have to be. She assured me that she's done larger parties and could completely handle 9 women. I told her they'd all have their hair in weaves that would need to be curled and possibly pinned. She instructed me to make sure all the women had their hair prepped beforehand and I said NO PROBLEM. She accepted the booking without hesitation. One week before my wedding, she complained about the fact that all the ladies would have long weaves. She said curling would take much longer than she anticipated as a result. She claimed I never told her that all the girls were wearing weaves (LIE). Then she tried to ask for more money for her to come earlier--after we already had an agreement for 7 hours of work (she later claimed one hour of this time was for her travel). I suggested that perhaps she could come one hour earlier and leave one hour earlier but still work the same 7 hours we agreed to. She said no. To try to appease her, I said I'd speak to some of the bridesmaids about doing their hair themselves so the day of could be less stressful. She said okay. Next thing I know she sent me a return of my deposit and TEXTED me stating her services were no longer available!! I was in shock. I spent the next 24 hours in tears and desperately trying to find a replacement stylist (which I did thank God). This woman has no loyalty to her clients!! If you have a special occasion please do yourself a favor and run in the other direction. Luckily, I ended up meeting a great hairstylist who came in at the last minute and did an amazing job! ------ IN RESPONSE TO SHARNTAI'S COMMENT BELOW: For the sake of brevity (my initial review was long and detailed enough), I'm only going to address two things, but please note that most of what this woman wrote in her response below is either a fabrication or gross misrepresentation of what actually transpired between her and me. I did not want to pay this woman a FULL DAY RATE (12 hours) because I did not need her services for a full day. It's that simple. My wedding began at 10:30am and a full day rate meant she'd be there for the whole event, which was not necessary. My hair was going to remain in the same style (which I've known I wanted for over a year) for the entire event so there were no additional styling needs after the initial hair prep. Our original agreement was for her services to be rendered from 5am-12pm. When she later stated that she'd be leaving her house at 5am to arrive at the venue at 6am, I asked would she be willing to come ONE HOUR EARLIER and leave ONE HOUR EARLIER! She said not unless I was willing to pay her more because it was too early for her. It's a shame how this woman lies. Secondly, given how early the wedding was, when I initially booked her I considered paying for a hotel room for her the night before. She did not request this, I VOLUNTEERED IT TO MAKE HER LIFE EASIER. I asked her if she'd feel comfortable sharing a double bed room with another vendor or makeup artist, and she said that given the Covid-19 situation she did not. She said she was fine traveling the day of as long as I covered her travel. I said NO PROBLEM AT ALL I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. Once again, stay away from this woman and her unprofessionalism and lies. Wish I made her sign a written agreement like everyone else I booked did. But now I see why she didn't, so she can back out of her services at any time!! read more

I went a few months ago. The cut was bomb, I definitely need to keep doing that for my natural hair. But I spent a little over $200 (when I went in expecting to pay around $100 with tip included) because of the upselling of different services I "required". It was my first time getting a silk press, but my end result wasn't shiny or silky as I imagined it would be. I've seen other people with silk presses that are CLEAN and last for weeks. I was warned not to get it wet AT ALL, so I wrapped it once I got inside (roughly 10min away from the shop) and stayed under the AC. Inside, I took a few pictures to commemorate the moment. However, I unwrapped that bad boy the next morning, and I was back to my puff . I at least got to enjoy the 10min walk back home with my hair bouncing in the wind for $200. I've been going to Sharntai for 6 years now. Sharntai is meticulous with her work. Every client that walks through the door doesn't even touch the shampoo sink until they've sat in her chair, and she's had a chance to look at their hair and evaluate the condition and discuss their hair history. When I went short and natural, Sharntai worked with me to find a color that worked and was knowledgable about natural hair and really guided me through the transition. When I bleached my hair, no doubt she informed me that the curls would loosen. Even though with simple research I could've learned about my hair, Sharntai was very forthcoming with what she knew. I have seen her SLAY some natural hair. In fact, I have 3 friends that only go to her because they leave her chair with amazing curls, an amazing cut, and healthy hair. In terms of prices, you get what you pay for. By no means would I consider her prices expensive - especially for what she offers clients. Not only are her prices transparent, she literally will itemize services with her clients so that there are no surprises. I'm in the salon every week, lol. This review is LOOONG overdue​ but better late than​ never. I booked an appointment​ on November 11 for a silk press and cut on my natural hair (4b texture). I texted​ Sharntai in advance​ for instructions​ on how to prepare my hair for​ my appointment simply because I hadn't​ been to a salon or straighten​​ my kinks in over 3 years.​ Her only instruction was to detangle my hair prior the appointment​ which​ I did not do but should have. I walked in a few minutes before my appointment​ and Sharntai started assessing​ my hair right away. She asked me if I had any scalp issues such as dandruff​ before confirmed​ the price. She then proceeded to wash my hair with a moisturizing​ shampoo, followed​ by conditioning and detangling my hair with a popular​ deep conditioner (in the world of naturals) formulated for curly hair (Miss Jessie's Super Sweet Back Treatment for Hair growth). Now, I am very tender​ headed and since I did not detangle​d​ my hair prior (as Sharntai instructed), the detangling​ process wasn't a breeze but she worked with me and was as gentle as she can be so we got through it. Once the detangling was complete, she rinsed​ the treatment​​ and placed my hair in a few twists​ to dry under a hooded hair dryer​​. When she took me out of the dryer my hair was about 70% dry. She sprits some heat protectant in my hair and began to blow-dry​ my hair straight in small sections. I was shocked at how long my hair was. She showed me how much I needed to cut off before cutting. I gave her the okay and she never cut any more than she needed to. Once my hair was cut she started flat ironing my hair. She only passed the iron one time per section to assure I didn't experience​ heat damage and my results were beautiful. The pictures speak for themselves. Sharntai did everything on my hair herself. She did not leave my hair in the hands of an assistant​ like some other hair salons​ out there. The salon is small and comfortable. She played dope music and the overall ambiance was right. The price for the service was exactly​ as listed. The last thing she did was sprits my hair with a little gloss and gave me​ instructions on how to maintain it. My silk press lasted me 3 weeks and my husband loved it. When I finally decided to cleanse my hair, my kinks reverted back with no signs of heat damage what so ever. My hair was also a lot healthier and manageable​. This was my first time at the salon. Sharntai was my stylist, and I found her to be very communicative and professional. I have very fine hair, and not every stylist is equipped to manage this type of hair without creating heat damage. Sharntai gave me a well needed cut, and added volume to my silk press. I tried Fabstylist a few weeks ago after my usual hair stylist overbooked for the month. I was really nervous about it since I have very thin hair and moderate alopecia; in the past I have been turned away by beauticians that wouldn't work with me which can be really embarrassing especially if it's done in front of a full shop of clients (yep, that's what happened to me then). I was on time to my appointment with Sharntai and happy that she was able to start right away without delay. I must admit, from the expression on her face, I was nervous she would turn me away also. However, a consummate professional, Sharntai was direct with me, explained what she would do and in no time we were at it! This woman works quickly!! I was so pleased because (like us all) I truly value my time and getting out the salon on time to move on with my day. In this case I had an afternoon meeting at work that I couldn't miss and Sharntai level-set and exceeded expectations by finishing in an hour. I have never had the kind of results I got in an hour appointment AND I added two services that I didn't even plan to do! My hair looked AMAZING, which for a woman like me with medically-diagnosed alopecia, almost never happens! It was shiny, bouncy and full of life...I got so many compliments. The results, along with the fact that Sharntai is super fast has made me a fan! I love the ease of booking an appointment online too and rescheduling as needed. I hate having to wait (sometimes weeks on end) for my most recent hair stylist to get back to me. So before I get lost in my many to do's and life I just want to give credit where credit is due, Sharntai is just the best!!!! She is a true magician with the scissors, her precision is perfection.. very easy to communicate with. This is my second cut by her and she is just the best... Highly recommend, worth every penny! Found this salon on Yelp and it has alot of good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. (and now I see why!) The response time on my Yelp messages was truly less than 10mins. I book an appointment for the following day. I was ready and Sharntai was very punctual and ready to get to work.. The services that was performed on my hair was a deep moisturizing treatment, a silk press and an amazing cut!!!...I had alot of dead and split ends and Sharntai paid special attention them. I left her salon with a new found appreciation to for stylist that are professional and passionate for what they do! Thanks again girl!!! Imma brand new me!!!!!! read more

This review is a couple months overdue. I contacted Sharntai to cut my hair into a tapered cut after I had been transitioning for about 5 months. I was considering transitioning longer but got fed up. Sharntai was nice when I arrived, asked exactly what I was thinking and proceeded to tell me the price before we got started. It ended up being pricey but she cut my hair *identical* to the picture I showed her. I was extremelyyy anxious when I left as it was very drastic change but I've been getting compliments on my hair from both acquaintances and strangers ever since I cut it. I also had a meltdown the first week attempting to style it and messaged her at about 7am on yelp and she called me within 10 minutes to discuss my hair and offer some tips. She also told me to come in whenever if I needed help with product application, styling techniques, etc. She definitely goes above and beyond! I've been going to Sharntai for a little over a year now and she is hands down the best stylist I've ever had in my 20 years of getting my hair done. She's super professional - I'm always out at a decent time - no waiting around because she's hours behind schedule. My hair is always healthy and lasts long when it's styled. She's super responsive and does an excellent job of keeping track of what you usually have done, what your last services are, etc. Every penny is worth it because I know that I'll receive consistently good service! Sharntai did my hair for my wedding. I was going for a retro vibe and Sharntai delivered (my husband and I were featured in a Vogue article about City Hall wedding style). What was unique about my appointment is that I needed to have my hair be a little dirty to hold the curls. I came in the week before my wedding for a touch up relaxer, trim, and flat iron, and then, the night before my wedding, Sharntai pin curled my hair for me. Sharntai has been my stylist for years. I've followed her from salon to salon until she got her own place--Fabstylist. She takes excellent care of my long natural hair. Her presses are silky and last and last! She also colors my hair and I constantly get compliments on the highlights. Most importantly: she supported my transition from perm to natural and my hair is full, healthy and the longest it's ever been after years of her care. Can't recommend her more strongly.
