Literally 10 star out of 10! I came in for a silk press with trim and a treatment. I was a little nervous but Sharntai made me feel at ease. This is the best salon experience. Sharntai followed all of the CDC guidelines such cleaning the surfaces, taking your temperature, wearing a mask, washing hands, etc. My appointment started on time and was given hair consultation and price with payment method. Really loved the wash and my treatment was under a steamer which was a plus! Sharntai is very educated on natural hair. She is soooo good with the scissors and gave me a beautiful trim. I've been to fab twice now and I had great experiences each time. My first visit was after I took down my box braids. I needed a trim and a good deep conditioning for my un relaxed hair. Sharntai really slayed my hair. It was silky smooth and healthy again and the cut she gave me was exactly what I wanted. My second experience at fab was to get a creative color. I've been wanting purple hair FOREVER and after Sharntai said she could hook me up, I was excited to give her the opportunity. Anyway, she slayed my life once again! She was able to lift my dark black hair just enough to absorb the different shades of purple she envisioned for me. I am so obsessed with my hair and I'm always getting compliments on it! So I literally woke up on Sunday morning & decided I wanted a major hair change. So I went on Yelp and searched "salons open on Sunday's" and that's how I found Fabstylist. After doing research via reviews & pictures, I decided to call up and see if there were any openings. All though it was last minute, Sharntai squeezed me in & I was there within a half hour. She was very nice and was sure to ask me EXACTLY what I wanted. I even showed her some example pictures. When it came to the styling part, I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted it but judging by Sharntai's pictures I knew she would style it perfect. So I trusted her and it came out perfect! The process did take a little while because they were busy but I was just thankful she took me in at the last minute. She was very nice & had a great attitude and worked non-stop while I was there. You can tell she really cares about her work & takes pride in it. Although it was a little pricey ($180 for shampoo, cut style & relaxer on back & sides), I would definitely come back. Hi, you're right. The first experience (cutting a weave installed at another salon) was much better. I understand wanting to protect your braider but there was not braiding hair used. I asked her after I was braided and she said "No, it makes it tighter." I know it was your intention to have her use it, because as noted in my initial review, I wrote that you told her to. To clarify, we only discussed the hair being thin after I sent a message a couple of days later saying it was too thin. Also, I had a ton of extra hair with me at the salon the day of my appointment that could've been used but you said there was no room and you were placing the tracks as close as possible. I didn't realize how thin it was until the wind hit it while I was out and about after my appointment. Regardless, the situation has been remedied with another weave elsewhere...where the same hair was used in addition to almost a complete second bundle. I did leave out that you give a great hair cut, so noting that now. I was very pleased with my haircut both times, just not the installation. So thank you for that. read more

Was in desperate need of a last-minute appointment after my usual salon canceled and was extremely grateful I was taken in on a busy Saturday. Thank you!! Honest feedback: Received a Silk Press and Conditioning Treatment and Silk Press was okay but definitely not as silky as my other presses... I could immediately tell when looking in the mirror which was disappointing. As expected, hair already started to revert in some areas only a day later...I've had presses that last weeks(!). The roots were not fully reached in some areas likely due there being only one pass through (some areas of the head require more than this, especially when dealing with natural hair) Paid +$100 for the service and was disappointed to see the style not live up the price. Given the outcome and the longevity of the style definitely feel as if the service was overpriced. I've paid less at other salons and have seen my presses come out mcuh silkier, however, still left a decent tip because of the last minute request. read more

I got my hair cut and colored here. She taught me how to deal with my curls which I thought was just frizz! Did a wonderful job coloring my hair the way I wanted. I previously wrote the below review(under the stars) to which, instead of apologizing for horrible service, the stylist replied that she washed my hair three times, which was a lie. She barely washed my hair once. And she said that the reason she didn't clean my scalp is because I "have a condition," which is rude and untrue. If this were the case, I'd be writing a review about every stylist I ever went saying that they didn't clean my scalp well. Since "a condition" implies it'd be impossible for all stylists to clean my scalp. But I haven't wrote reviews about any other stylist not cleaning my scalp because this has never happened! It is also untrue that I "didn't comb my hair in weeks," like she insisted. I had washed, conditioned, and detangled my hair that very morning before my appointment to go see her. I left in a hair masque, which is why I asked her to wash thoroughly because I did not want any to be left on my scalp as hair masques are usually pretty thick and had been setting all morning. She even commented that she was just going to do one wash since my hair is "already clean." Also, it would not make sense for me, a middle class woman working in New York, to not to comb my hair in weeks. That means that I'd come to work with matted hair and in pain. Not to mention, I'd probably have to cut my hair to detangle it and hence it would not be "down my back," which is the reason the stylist insisted for the extra charge. I think the fact that the stylist publicly contradicted herself and people have commented or liked this review saying they had the same experience speaks for itself. *** I was excited to come here because of the rave reviews but was sorely disappointed with the service. Although the blow out was advertised as $30 online, she charged me $90 because I have natural hair. There is no way that natural hair should cost three times as much especially since I have relatively easy curls to deal with. Also prices should be as advertised. She also made me comb out my own hair before washing( mind you I had washed and detangled the night before so it would have been super easy for her to comb through). I told her to please pay attention to my scalp while washing because I know that if any conditioner is left on my scalp it becomes super itchy and flaky and I felt as though she was not getting to my scalp during the wash. And her response was that I'd have to get a special scalp treatment. To get a thorough wash of my scalp? She claimed no residue was on my scalp but sure enough my scalp was very cakey and flakey immediately after my hair was fully dry and finished, which is not usual right after a wash. read more

1. I came in for the ~$70 silk press. She then up-charged significantly after I arrived. I had an event scheduled for later that night and she said that she would NOT straighten my hair if I did not PAY HER $100 to trim THE ENDS!!! $100!!! To trim the ends of my hair AND an extra ~$45 for deep conditioning!!!! It was already late in the day and she knew that I would have trouble finding another stylist at that time. This was incredibly unprofessional and ridiculous! 2. After informing me that she would not do my hair without the $100 TRIM & $45 conditioning, I asked if she would provide a discount. She laughed and explained that I am paying for her education and her skills are just that good that they cannot be discounted. The trim was not that great. I get a better trim for $15 elsewhere. Completely not worth it. 3. I was left under the humidifier for about one hour and I was the only one in the salon for a while 4. Upon completion of the straightening, my roots were not straight and the hair was poofy and frizzy. This was immediately after it was done. 5. I have never been asked to detangle my hair before coming to a salon. She told me that upon arrival I should've detangled and it is stated on her page, which is fine. Then she hands me a comb, spritzes a minimal amount of leave in and tells me to comb it out dry. I told her my hair is easier to detangle when wet and she told me that the water will mat my hair and that I need to comb it dry. As someone who has been living with myself for a very long time, I can tell you that my hair does not mat after I wash and condition it and it is easier to comb at that point. 6. She is very inflexible and her service is not worth the price charged. I get a significantly better wash, condition, shampoo, and trim for $85 at a natural hair stylist in Maryland AND it looks bomb afterwards, doesn't damage my hair, and doesn't require me spending 30 minutes of my visit detangling dry hair. And that $85 style is in the presence of a super sweet, kind, open, and understanding stylist. I will not have my hair done here again. IN RESPONSE TO HER COMMENT: [******Also, her response to my comment is highly inaccurate - she is absolutely lying about me being rude to her and her clients. There was not another client in the salon for most of my stay and there was no interaction with the other client LOL!! (Now I believe all of the negative reviews and do not believe her rebuttals - most of her reply is a complete lie). And she said I hadn't washed my hair in over a month when I directly told her that I washed and combed it about four days ago and placed it in braids. She said she gave me the "option" of doing a "natural style" when all she did was tell me that she could blow out my hair, but would not straighten it if I did not pay for the trim. I am natural. Not born again, new wave natural, but never had a perm, relaxer or texturizer natural. I also had bra-strap length hair when I walked into the salon. I say all of that to say that Sharntai managed my expectations on what could and could not be achieved with minimal chemicals. I came in showing her short, straight, colored styles. Again, my hair is naturally jet black virgin Negro hair and I hate to have to style it. She gently told me that the ladies whose hairstyles I wanted to replicate had either softer hair or had texturizers and created a low maintenance, organically colored hairstyle that turns heads and has me handing out her card left & right. Let's be clear, initially, I felt sticker shock about her prices but after checking out her reviews and trolling through her work on IG my anxiety subsided because she is a professional and conducts her business that way. I booked my appointment through Style Seat the same random day I decided to chop off my hair for a 3pm appointment & was seated in the chair by 3:30. Upon entering the salon and during my wait, I was greeted and invited to converse with her in regards to my ideas for my hairstyle. She worked on 3 different heads at the same time with the efficiency of a skilled chef at a Michelin star rated restaurant. She also explained that the shop was particularly that busy because she had just returned from vacation. The main difference between her and other salons that I have visited is that she communicated that my "creative color" would be $100 more BEFORE applying it. I never felt like I was being bamboozled. My husband gifted me with this makeover & since has told me everyday that he is so happy with it. What feels better is, everyday I look in the mirror and feel like I am looking at the girl I've been looking for. Let me start with Im leaving this review at 3am in the morning. I got my first silk press on my 4c hair after not putting heat to my tresses or even seeing a professional stylist for 7 years. To say I was paranoid about heat damage is an understatement. I arrived at the shop exactly on time for my appointment. The shop looked clean with a functional layout. Sharntai had one person under the dryer and one in her chair. I was greeted immediately and told it would be a few minutes( I waited a total of 12 min) Before anything I got a free hair consultation. She is knowledgeable and honest about what you can expect from her services and how realistic you should be about a potential style you want. We agreed on a steam treatment, cut and silk press. She let me know that I should not exepct to have bone straight hair since I havent been straight in a while and that we're fighting the weather( it was humid and raining) After my wash I got my steam treatment, the lady under the dryer moved to the chair and another lady came in. I say all this to shine light on the fact that Sharntai is like a well oiled machine. I never once felt rushed or like she was blowing threw my hair to hurry and get to another client. My silk press came out lovely and cuter then I expect. I waited a week and a half to write this review. I found this spot and had my appointment the same day. I really appreciate that, considering how much I was looking to get done: wash, deep condition, shaping up my fro, and a coil set. Sharntai was very pleasant over the phone and was able to give me a rough estimate before I came in, which I greatly appreciate. The shop: Great location: the local bus stops right in front of the door and it's close to the subway. It's very uncluttered and the music stays on r&b and chill which sets a mellow, unrushed vibe. It's cute and clean (major plus). Service: We discussed what I wanted again and Sharntai looked at my hair and decided a vitamin deep treatment would be best. I ask a lot of questions and she addressed them all, giving me tips on which products would be best for me to use in between visits. Inexpensive and readily available in common stores. I was in the chair right away and I like that she steamed my hair. I hadn't had a trim of any sort in over a year so my fro had lost its shape. She cut several inches all around to ensure it was even and healthy. As for the finger coils, I have very thick hair and she coiled everything in 20 minutes. My hair was super moisturized during each step and again, Sharntai told me everything she used step by step. The clear communication was a major plus. Although a few of the coils didn't come out exactly as I wanted, she assured me that it's because it's the first time. Overall: I felt welcomed at this salon. The atmosphere was warm and Sharntai is very methodical: every client's time was managed well and someone was either being shampooed or styled or dried. All the services I requested did cost a pretty penny but my hair is much better off now, it has bounce and a well defined shape. What I love is that she is in Brooklyn (yay!) and provides early morning and late evening appointments. The salon is clean and well kept with a modern decor. Service was prompt and on time. Started on time and ended within an hour, with little to no wait time in between. Sharntai was very professional, it honestly felt like talking to your friend about your hair.
