“On meeting Debra, I was amazed at her depth of knowledge, and her incredible flexibility, as I only had a two hour window for her to work in.”

I then ended up waiting longer, so my appointment didn't start until 45 minutes after my original time. Due to this, it seemed like my service was very rushed and I was unhappy with how the cut came out. I had to go back in the following week to have it touched up. Also, the salon bathroom smelled awful and the salon gets incredibly smoky and hazy. While this place wasn't for me, it seems a lot of people like it, so maybe it's all dependent on the stylist

She was incredibly kind, took the time to understand exactly what I wanted, and guided me toward the best option for my hair. Even though highlighting is a detailed and time-intensive process, Ava's attention to detail was exceptional! When it came time to choose the right shade, she brought out a color swatch book and walked me through the different tones, helping me find the one that would complement me best. I really appreciated how personalized the experience felt, and I loved being able to look through all the color options myself. Ava is a talented stylist who genuinely cares about her clients and their results. I left feeling refreshed, confident, and like a whole new person. I couldn't be happier with my highlights and would highly recommend her!

Definitely has no empathy, kept burning my scalp with the curling iron. I came with a haircut and said I don't do those hair cuts it natural but offered no options just said go on Website. This was a huge transition for me and it wasn't good. I'll just stay NJ and find a salon here I will not be returning. I wasted my time and money driving over an hour.

**My Honest Review of Twin Unisex Salon - The Glam Bar (Althea)**…read more My experience with Althea at Twin Unisex Salon, The Glam Bar, has been extremely disappointing, especially after experiencing scalp burns, scabbing, and hair loss following my relaxer service. Althea does good hair when it comes to styling and appearance, but in my experience, healthy hair and scalp care did not seem to be the priority. Her attitude was not the best and came across as rude at times. I understand I am not there to make friends, but I do expect professionalism, proper communication, and care for my hair and scalp. I have serious concerns about her relaxer application procedures. My scalp was not based, my hair was not properly sectioned, and I observed the same brush and tub of Mizani relaxer being used for multiple clients instead of dispensing the product into a separate container. She also had relaxer processing on two clients' hair at the same time, raising concerns for me about proper application and monitoring. On the day of my appointment, I told Althea my scalp was burning during processing. The client sitting behind me was also experiencing burning. I never imagined I would later experience severe burns, scabbing, and hair loss. The hair loss was not immediately noticeable; I began seeing the extent of it after the scabs came off and my scalp entered the healing stage. After my appointment, Althea gave me a bottle of oil for FREE and instructed me to apply it only to the back of my hair. She also gave me a few dollars off my service. These gestures left me questioning whether she recognized something was wrong with my scalp. I later contacted her to express my concerns. She said she was with a client and would call me back. I understood and waited, but **I never received a call back.** I remained respectful throughout this process, even though I am the one experiencing hair loss and dealing with the consequences. This is not about making friends; it is about professional responsibility, proper procedures, and accountability. **Yes, Althea does good hair, but in my experience, there is a difference between making hair look good and prioritizing healthy hair.** No hairstyle should come at the expense of a client's scalp health. I trusted this salon with my hair, and I am disappointed by both my experience and the lack of follow-up. Clients deserve to have their concerns taken seriously, especially when they report burning during a chemical service. Please prioritize your scalp health and speak up if something feels wrong.

It is very close to the Borough Hall train station, close to Jay Street- Metrotech and various other buses and public forms of transport. In fact, I thought the salon was a general spa as opposed to a salon suite of different hairdressers and beauty services. I am used to this type of establishment because I had a hairstylist who worked in a similar space when I lived outside of NYC. There are various ways to enter. My hairstylist gave me a code to enter and you can either call for the stylist to get you up or you can get a QR code. The lobby to the salons are on the first floor while the actual booths are on the second floor. There are stairs and an elevator. There are multiple couches and comfy benches on the second floor so you can wait for your appointment. There are stations for coffee and tea that my stylist told me to take advantage of. There is artwork all over and the color scheme makes it not sterile but not too bright. There is a vending machine onsite but since the location is close to many eateries (chopt is next door) you don't have to worry about access. I had a great time with my stylist Lilian. She came on time. She asked me questions about my desires and goals and gave me recommendations that I can use in my free time. I look forward to using her services in the future.

I went back for an adjustment (they give you 30 minutes for a free adjustment if you ask within 2 weeks of your original appointment) and the stylist saw the issue but basically told me that there was not enough time to actually fix the problem. Instead she made some other adjustments to distract from the issue. As my hair is growing, I'm seeing the poorly graded front layers coming further and further into stark relief. I'm working my best to style around this, but I will not be going back and definitely do not think the cut was worth the price I paid. I'll have to pay another $200 to someone else sooner rather than later. My 3 stars is due to good communication from the establishment, and that the rest of the hair cut was well done - except..... the front....... the part you want to be at its best..... I do not recommend any curly girl getting their hair cut here.
