When my friend started helping me choose some makeup by testing it on me, a staff member stepped forward indicating that I could be color matched if I desired. I approached an employee (who had previously looked at me and walked right on by) where a product was. After correcting my pronunciation of the brand, she showed me where the product was. I am a diamond platinum member and each level I have gone up I have been told I get a free gift but never received anything. So I was very surprised when last time I was here the lady before me went up a level and asked for her free gift and they are DIRECTLY BEHIND THE COUNTER. So when it's my turn I ask the girl why they mention a free gift when you upgrade but don't give you one if they are right behind them and she just looked at me and said "I don't know because it tells us on the screen". Thank god for Ultra beauty, its truly the next best thing next to sephora, I have to admit this might be my new go to for beauty products especially because they have "BENEFIT" and it's cheaper than Sephora. I've started to use this brand benefit and I absolutely love it. They also carry KKW and Kylie products, I'll buy KKW but kylie, not at all, I feel like it's over priced and the quality (in my opinion) is not great However they have tons of other great beauty product that I favor and faithfully buy such as "Makeup forever", "Morphe", "clinique", "Anastasia" the list can go on, ..... I'd give this place negative stars if I could! My daughter had an event she wanted her hair done for and had an appointment. We got a confirmation for the appointment the day before. We arrive for the appointment and they were like oh your hairdresser called out for the whole weekend. I said no one told me. No phone call no nothing! Asked for a root touch up, assumed she would use a color that matched the rest of my hair, instead she gave me dark roots. Before photo on top. Also got hair color on my face, didn't put cotton or Vaseline around my face. Previous visit with different stylist I asked for noticeable partial highlights. Then she said "I need to touch up your roots". Then she said she remembered I had just gotten a haircut recently, but did I want a trim, I said yes. I didn't know that Ulta had salon services, so I decided to give it a try. I showed up to my appointment early and spoke to the girl at the desk. I booked an appointment to get my hair colored and cut. I had a specific style in mind and showed the employee. She told me that she didn't have enough time to do it, which disappointed me because I was really looking forward to this. She bleached my hair and then told me that it wasn't a good idea to bleach it (I have had it bleached prior with no problem and I use healthy product for my hair), so it wouldn't of been a problem. She decided to do a darker color, which was more of a red-wine color. Not the color that I had originally wanted, which was plum. I agreed to this because it looked purple enough in the book. I thought maybe it would come through in my hair. WRONG!!! I have dark brown hair, so color rarely comes through unless bleach is used. I was charged over one hundred dollars for a color that I didn't even originally ask for and for something that is not noticeable to the eye. I am going on vacation soon and wanted a nice, new hairstyle for it. Now I don't have enough time to get it redone. I was very upset after leaving the store. My hair looked exactly the same as when I went there (besides the cut). It was just a dark brown, my natural color. I originally wanted the top of my hair black with plum streaks....opted for the red wine color cause it was suggested and the employee was very friendly. I was disappointed immediately when I saw my hair in the mirror, but didn't say anything because it was dark in there. I thought maybe the color would show in the light. I asked multiple people for their opinions - my family, etc and they all said that it doesn't even look like I got my hair colored. Always have loved Ulta, but I don't know how to feel after this. I feel as if though I paid for something that I already had. I will not be going back to this store for hair services. Unfortunately, I think I could have gotten a better dye job in the mall. Just wanted to share my personal experience. I have been in communication with customer service and hope to hear back soon. This ruined my weekend. read more

11/30/2021 I stopped in on Tuesday, November 30 at around 1:00pm. I was purchasing a bottle of shampoo and conditioner which was quite clearly posted as buy one get one 50% off. When it didn't ring up as such the manager then claimed it was not on sale. I said the signs are clearly posted. Annoyed with me now, she then said the bottles you purchased are not included in the sale. I calmly said please show me where it says this is brand is excluded. The sign is directly in front of my product. She was huffing and puffing as I followed her to the back of the store where she began taking angrily down the sale signs. She then allowed me the 50%off which was the right thing to do in the first place, rather than to be dishonest and say the bottle I picked wasn't included in the sale. I was going to open a credit card there, but thought no way now! So sorry I didn't get her name. read more

Worst ever online customer service. Bought 6 bottles of Olaplex for $178 on 6/23. Fedex lost package on 6/25. Ulta refuses to help me until 7/8 even though Fedex clearly lost the package. Won't begin the process of helping me for 16 days even though they claim to intervene after 3 days. Don't use Ulta unless you are willing to get ripped off (and have your time wasted.) read more

Samantha is my favorite hair stylist in the salon. She does an amazing job every time. I love her sense of humor, her perfectionist attitude, and beautifully creative personality. She really has a passion for her art and is very good at it. The cashiers, makeup artists, and everyone in between that works here has always been nice. This is my go to place for hair, hair products, and makeup products. I love the rewards program. I also love the k beauty section. There's just some things here that you can't find anywhere else, and it's all in one place (Mario badascu skincare! I'm in love.) I was superrrrrr nervous (I know it might sound crazy) because I haven't cut my hair in a few years... To add to my nervousness I have never even died my hair. Samantha educated me in everything she was going to do and lead me and suggested what she thought was best for me as an individual. Long story short I've finally found a hair stylist that I am comfortable and confident using. There are certain staff members there who are super helpful and friendly, which has made a world of a difference when shopping there - specifically, the two hair care stylists/make up artists who helped when I've had my makeup done. They were genuinely pleasant and fun. I have to agree with the previous reviewer on the grumpy manager (long black hair).... She has a very unhappy and disgruntled disposition that is simply unapproachable. It is clear that she is unhappy working there...and I'm sure she has her reasons, but as a customer, I wish I didn't have to see it so much. If everyone were like the makeup artists/hair stylists who helped me, it would be such a fun, *beautifying* experience! Instead, it feels a bit bleh like a desolate, dreary day. Sam is an absolute genius at what she does. I trust her with my color and cut and have never been disappointed. So long as she's there to be my stylist, I'll continue to return to the salon. As far as the rest of this location, I've never interacted with floor employees until checkout despite my wandering the store, and the Restrooms should be better maintained. read more

Went to the salon to have hair colored and highlights put in. I was not happy with hair cut I had and showed her pictures of the haircut I would like. She told me she had time to cut and would fix it. Well, the color came out fine but the cut was uneven and choppy. Called manager and she told me I could come in and the top level stylist would look at it. I went to the lower level stylist the first time. Again, I showed her pictures and asked if it was something I could have. She told me I would have to grow it longer but she could even it out. I have extremely thick wavy hair and told both of the it does not do well with texturizers. They must train them to cut the hair the same way. I wanted face framing layers, shorter by face and longer in the back. I now have thick and blunt layers in front and one side was thinned out so much and iit is very uneven overall. She actually cut it worse than the first girl. You might be safe for a color, but unless you have simple hair to cut, don't go there. They did refund my money but it will take a year to grow out the mess. They were very nice though. read more

I usually really enjoy Ulta. It's a great place to browse, splurge on yourself and find some really great deals. I made a purchase for my mom for Christmas at the beginning of December. I decided to buy something different for her and visited today to return the item. The store closes at 9 and I pulled into the parking lot at 8:53. Now I know, I know, nobody likes that guy who comes into a store at the end of the day. BUT all I needed to do was one return, no browsing or shopping. I just wanted my money back. As I pulled into the parking lot, I see an employee locking the door. Is my clock wrong? Is it backward day?! I see customers inside. I knocked on the door because I work all the time and I don't have time to come back before the return period is up. Someone answered the door and I said "Hi, it's not 9:00 yet." She let me in and I waited behind another customer to do my return. I understand it's annoying to help customers at the end of the day and people want to go home, but this is a customer service business and I was out of there by 9. It's not like I wanted a cut and color at 8:59! Also, at my last trip, I purchased a fragrance item. They had a special for a free bathrobe with a fragrance purchase over $40. The cashier had NO IDEA about this deal and it had been going on for about a week. Dozens of people probably missed out on their free robe which made me wonder how many free items I missed out on. I will definitely be choosing to my money at Sephora rather than Ulta as much as I can going forward! read more

Scheduled a hair cut with Samantha. While it's not the worst cut I've ever received it's definitely not good. My layers are so heavy and choppy that it made my overall length look super super thin. Extremely rude, unprofessional staff. I am not experienced in the makeup world but trying to learn. I asked one employee a simple question about a product I was interested in buying. She was very unhelpful and then immediately proceeded to whisper and snicker with a fellow co-worker. Very bad for ulta's image. I not only decided to not buy the product, but to never go back there again. They should fire all their staff and hire all new people. Don't bother using them to color your hair. Apparently, if you use a washout dye or any "box out" dye they won't work with you. I went in to just get little color highlight. Okay, so I didn't have enough time to any extreme coloring but after while I was being so accommodating to the stylist that eventually she rejected doing my hair and let alone didn't offer anything else. I wasted gas & more importantly my time. I have had terrible experiences at salons in the past and I will absolutely come see Samantha again. Also, the salon at Ulta is very fairly priced compared to other salons around. I am rating the woman here instead of the place to make that clear however, other girls went to other girls and were not pleased as well. Highlights I received were done sloppy, there are slanted lines where the foils were. Stylist was unfriendly, guess she doesn't care about having repeat customers. If you love makeup, this is a playground for the big girls! LOVE all the options and the brands they sell and that you can try stuff out to see what you like before you purchase anything. Sometimes they run good deals too, but the prices are pretty competitive. The sales people are helpful and even if the lines at the registers are long, they move quickly. I love the store itself. Buttttt my service at the salon today was not at all what I expected. At first I had a very pleasant stylist, as she was conditioning my hair I guess she got not so great news and stormed out of the room. A new stylist (also pleasant) came up to me and said she'd be doing my hair instead. She said she heard what I wanted and I agreed with what she said regarding what I wanted done with my hair. I told her about shoulder length, minimal layers, and angled slightly. As soon as my hair is done I am shocked as my hair is chin length (about 3-4 inches shorter than I had showed her where I wanted it cut to.). I have never been so upset from a haircut. I work in a restaurant and now cannot put my hair up. Not at all what I asked for and I'm very unhappy with the result and how it may interfere with my job. ABSOLUTE SALON NIGHTMARE!!!!! I went in with a picture of a simple ombré. I've heard great things about Madi but was left extremely disappointed. The entire session Madi & Samantha gossiped about coworkers and different customers that I even knew which was terrible to sit through. As she is finishing up with my hair I realize she is cutting off quite a bit of hair considering I only asked for a trim?? I get out of the chair to see my once waist-length hair chopped completely to just below my shoulders. I was furious. On top of that instead of my ombré I received hideous patchy streaks of color throughout my hair. There seemed to be no sense of training whatsoever. When I asked for a refund I was out through another nightmare when I was told I had to wait to speak with the salon manager. The salon manager begged me to get my hair done with her but I said what can you really do to my hair, you can't grow back 6 inches?? (PS if I was to get my hair FIXED she intended on charging me) so I told her that I was not interested in continuing business with them and that I wanted my refund. After being put on hold for 4 hours she consulted with the actual ulta store manager to tell me that they were only going to be giving me half of what I paid back. I was unhappy with the way Chloe colored my hair. I paid a lot of money and the color was hardly noticeable. I called a few hours later and asked if she could fix it for me and she told me she would have to charge me the full price. I was shocked that Ulta doesn't have a 48 hour policy where if you are unhappy, accommodations can be made. Big waste of money. To top it all off, the girls are catty and complain about customers, make fun of customers' hair, etc. That was a big turn off for me - I wonder what they said about me when I left! I went to ulta the other day and as soon as I walked in an employee (older woman, slender Caucasian) came up to me and said 'what can I find for you today', I politely replied 'I do not need any help today thank you' and turned around to proceed to shop around. She followed me the whole time like a shadow. It was unreal, everywhere I turned around she was there. I went from the bare minerals to the Mario badescu to the Korean skin care to the hair products... And she was there watching me the whole time. She even came up to me when I was in the Mario badescu section and asked if I wanted a skin consultation and I said no. She made me so uncomfortable and it was obvious that she was following me because I looked like I rolled out of bed (this is Poughkeepsie, what do I have to get glammed up for). My sister was with me and she thought it was so funny bc this woman was so obvious. I'm not saying she was racially profiling but she was absolutely profiling me. I don't know if she is trained to act like this or has specific directives to act like this or if she just acts this way on her own... Either way it was uncomfortable and insulting. After leaving ulta I went to Sephora (where I should have gone to initially). At Sephora the staff was extremely welcoming (as they always are) and did not profile me based off of my zero f's given look. I am going to buy Mario badescu and all of the other items I usually buy at ulta online (the ulta point system is too good not to use). Poughkeepsie Ulta is horrible and they will profile you based on what you look like (this is Poughkeepsie- I have the right to look like trash in this trash town, I preserve my glam for important things - not ulta runs).
